I would give ZERO stars if I could. They damaged my vehicle and it's going to be extremely expensive to repair. I Dropped my car off for a coolant pressure test/flush and a Oil Change. Got a call the next morning saying that my car was knocking and they wouldn't do the oil change. I was just under the hood the day I dropped it off and it was running fine and the oil level was between the min and max levels. It was just a little dirty because it has been about 3,800 since my last oil change. This is important and comes into play later after the line of bullcrap they fed me. I arrived the next morning and was given my keys back. They gave me no paperwork at all. Chris said it wasn't gonna cost me anything for the oil change because they didn't do it. He also didn't charge me for the pressure test. I went and checked and sure enough my car has a low knock when idling that was only audible from the outside of the vehicle. I went back in and asked them what they did to my car. Chris said that they didn't do anything, that he had heard the knock when he started the car. This was the first lie as the knock is not audible from the passenger compartment. Then he told another lie and said it was several quarts low on oil. Remember what I said earlier? I had checked it the day before so that was the second lie I caught him in. Then the mechanic came out and said he noticed the knock when it was in the bay, and he couldn't find a coolant leak when he did the pressure test. proving Chris was lying. After that Chris said once again that he noticed it was knocking and all he did was crank it up. According to the Progressive Snapshot installed on my vehicle the car was started 3 times. The first for 1 min 31 seconds and driven .04 miles. The second for 2 minutes and 40 seconds and not driven. The third time for 8 minutes and 35 seconds and driven .07 miles. This is proof that what Chris said was completely false. Chris denied any wrong doing and was rather rude, and made no effort to fix things or help find out what caused it to knock. I called my Warranty company (of which this Pep Boys is an authorized repair facility) and made a report. I also called Pep Boys corporate and filed a claim with them as well before taking my car to another authorized repair facility. When I got to the second mechanic I checked the oil and it was completely full with clean oil. Which means they had to have drained my dirty oil out and replaced it with fresh. I did not check the oil filter to see if it had been replaced too. The other mechanic is keeping it over the weekend to do a full diagnostic, but postulated that Pep Boys drained the oil and accidentally ran the motor without oil in it, causing it to develop the knock. Instead of doing the right thing, they just topped off the oil and didn't charge me to make it look like they were trying to help me out when in reality they pretty much ruined my motor. The giveaway is they didn't charge me or provide paperwork for the coolant pressure test. This is inexcusable and I hope that corporate hammers them for their shenanigans. Do not give them your money or trust them with your vehicle. read more

Grossly overpriced. I desperately needed two low beam headlight bulbs. - First problem, PepBoys insisted they could only sell me OEM compatible Halogen bulbs, even after I explained the existing bulbs were LEDs, not Halogens, and for a reason. I had already upgraded to the more efficient and reliable LEDs and did not want to return to GM's OEMs. Fortunately, another customer overheard the disagreement unfold and after taking my side, said he too had the exact same problem with PepBoys. He suggested my going to any local auto parts store to buy the replacement bulbs as he had already experienced. After telling the sales lady I was prepared to walk to the adjoining AutoZone and return with the product I wanted, she said no need, that PepBoys would source the LED bulbs from AutoZone - Enter problem two, PepBoys charged me $150 for a pair of Sylvania LEDs. Note that every auto parts store sells LEDs from $25-$40. The last LEDs I purchased were $75 for a complete set of 4 quality bulbs at Amazon and with overnight delivery. So effectively, PepBoys charged me 4 X the prevailing street price for parts (only) that were located just 50 feet from their front door. Never again will I set foot inside another PepBoys. read more

Very disappointed. They charged our daughter $450 to install a new battery without giving her any options. There are many batteries for her car model and several other places have them for less than half of that (we checked). We called within minutes of our daughter agreeing to this and the girl on the phone claimed the new battery was already installed and because she was over 18, there was nothing we could do. They offered 20% off which just seemed to confirm that they had inflated the price so much. Do not let your college kids go here without reviewing the estimate first. read more

Don't EVER take your vehicle here. Starting back in December, I had a set of tires put on my car. The tires are fine. No problems there. I did come in at the end of the evening right before Christmas, so I am sure the tech hurried through to get out of there. My problem was that when he put the spare back he threw it back in the spot where it goes, upside down never screwed it back into place, and just tossed the jack in the trunk itself. Additionally, when he did it, (guessing he thought it was hinged) he Broke the floor panel of my trunk that covers the spare into two pieces. I wasn't too upset about that as accidents happen. I was obviously mad that he said nothing but surely was aware. I hoped they would at least do right and replace the broken piece. When I called the store back, I was told by a gentleman on the phone, that they were NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE DONE TO MY CAR and suggested I call my insurance company. (??) Now I was irate. However, I decided to give them one more try as with the current status of the workforce, I really figured they would probably be turned over at that point anyway. Fast forward to this week (2/24). I got a notification on my dash that my "oil pressure is low and to turn off motor". My son who is a tech in a different city, (therefore no access to a lift or his tools) suggested that it was likely my oil pressure sensor was probably bad. He suggested we still tow it to a mechanic and have a diagnostic done to be on the safe side. I reluctantly agreed. Pep Boys showed the best price. So I opted for them. When I arrived, I also indicated that my brake switch needed calibration, as the lights kept coming on and staying on by themselves. I asked if he could take a look at them, as I knew what the problem was. Just had no idea how to remedy the issue. The service writer said that was an easy fix, and could be handled in a few minutes. Perfect. RIGHT? So, again. at this point, my car is there for a DIAGNOSTIC TEST ONLY, other than the brake light issue. Shortly after I get an email showing OBD2 codes, followed by a call from a female service writer, (Morgan, maybe? ). She said that they needed me to authorize $1036 for repairs to my car. I asked her if they ran the diag, she said, they did that once they got inside the motor. (??) Then she quickly backpedaled and said that they sent me an email with the diag results on it. I told her that was not a diag test, that was the code scanner (OBD2) which I could have done for free myself at an auto parts store...including their attached Autozone. I had already authorized the amount to have a diag done. After a bunch of back and forth we landed on, they "DID NOT do the diag" that I authorized, but still wanted me to give them $1036 in addition to the towing at $75 and $99.95 for the diag that was never completed. I told her not to even look at my car again, I would be coming to get it. She immediately got snotty with me on the phone and asked me why I brought the car there if I didn't want them to do the work. Clearly had not listened to a damn thing I had said. I JUST WANTED THE TEST DONE. That was it. When I arrived to pick up the car. Lo and behold. STILL TRYING TO CHARGE ME FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST...that they never did. The same, service writer progressed to give me some story about how they were going to include the calibration of my brake light complimentary with my repairs. Which I was NOT GOING TO HAVE DONE THERE ANYWAY. Not with 1.5-star rating on Yelp. Sorry, you are not touching my car for anything other than a superficial repair, until I get the current lay of the land integrity-wise. Then, when you were BS-ing me before the repair even started, and I caught you in it, all bets are off. She then said that their tech put several hours into my brake light calibration (mind you I had an email showing that it was fixed less than 45 minutes after I dropped the car off. She exclaimed the $99.95 was now for that "COMPLIMENTARY SERVICE". I was now fuming! My fiance, who showed up to meet me there on his late lunch break, just decided to pay the whole bill because he didn't want to mess around for his whole lunch break, haggling with crooks. I got my keys, went out to the car to find my blinker lights now blown out, and the real truth. This tech, who did a free OBD2 test, also cleared the codes, so the oil pressure notification would not come back on temporarily. Apparently, I was born yesterday. They were going to TRY to charge me over $1200, just so when the code eventually popped back up, I would hopefully be a repeat customer. Sorry about the long review. I feel it is very important that everyone be aware that this location is predatory to people who they assume they can take advantage of. In this economy, every dime counts. None of us are in a position to part with even one, especially with a bunch of con artists. If you choose to utilize this location for anything, go in with your eyes open. read more

I brought my vehicle in last Saturday morning for an oil change. Check engine light came on after oil change was complete. They couldn't figure out check engine light and recommended that I take my vehicle to dealer. Check engine light was due to the wrong filter being installed. There was also a tube left off of the filter that was designed to pump oil into the engine. The had to bend the filter to make it fit. They also spilled oil all over the top of my engine. Stay away from this rat hole. They obviously don't care about their customers!!My warranty is now null and void due to their negligence!! read more

What a terrible location. Terrible service. Terrible staff. I have been waiting for an oil change for 2 hours, and they only just brought my car back. Absolutely unacceptable. Don't waste your time. After waiting over 2 hours to get my car back, they left it in gear and stalled my car, ruining my battery. Absolute terrible service, their incompetence ruined my battery when I only came here for an oil change. Worst experience ever. I came in to buy a caliper, and came in to return the old part for the core charge refund. As I've done at many other stores (oreilly, napa, autozone), I came in without a receipt, since I entered my phone ID when making the purchase. I was told I wouldn't be able to get the core charge refund without the original receipt (or, confusingly, that I would have to come back at another time so he could get the computer system working). I had to speak on the phone with David, the manager. He was very rude, and kept insisting it was my fault for not having the receipt. As such, I cannot recommend this place. The staff (Michael, Justin, etc.) were very helpful, but unfortunately, David ruined the experience. Will not be returning. read more

First off , We take our whole fleet of trucks in here to get serviced. They always take forever getting them back. Not to mention something extra is always done to the trucks that we didn't ask for, and it's never done correctly. They do not fix the problems that you tell them you have. Also ,make sure you check your air filter ALWAYS! We have gotten several trucks back with them charging us for the package and replacement of the filter and nothing in the glove box has even been touched or moved we just recently pulled all the air filters out the truck and found out that none of them have been getting switched out! Very sad to say the least. They just try to make a quick buck off you! We will again be taking our services over to the "not so good" University tire. read more

I arrived to my appointment the next morning and they informed me that they didn't have to necessary equipment to do the oil change. I did not get a call, text, or email to notify me. He was very kind and provided excellent service. He was very transparent from the beginning of our interaction. Explaining that they had a full day of work, but would try to get my car in. He made sure I got the discount of buy 3 get 1 for my tires, even though my initial brand of tires were not in stock. Made sure I got a precise price quote before leaving my car with them. Took my truck in on Monday needing an alignment. They called me later in the day saying I needed a new camber kit to get the degree they needed to align it, since I had just put a leveling kit on the truck. Quote for the whole deal was $375. Had my wife pick the truck up and take it to Pritchett tire in Commerce, they did the alignment and never mentioned any word of needing a new camber kit! And lastly, did the alignment $30 cheaper! Originally charged me north of $550 for a misfire. Problem wasn't fixed. When I took the car back they said it'd be an additional $380 to fix. Didn't pay that, thankfully. But the problem still wasn't 100% fixed. On top on that, when I got my car back it was as if someone had intentionally sprinkled rat poop everywhere inside it was so bad. It was so disgusting and smelly I almost threw up. Probably the worst experience I've ever had with a mechanic. How can you not see and smell rat poop everywhere and think leaving it up to me to clean is good service? Highly do not recommend. read more

NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE x 2= Last trip to pep boys. This is my second bad experience in a row. I bought two new rear tires for a Chrysler town and country and when I got home I noticed that the two rear tires were smaller than the tires on the front (factory spec). Called and reported the issue. Excuse given was it was a new tech and he pulled the wrong size tire. Fast forward to today. Took a different vehicle in to get oil change and tires rotated. This vehicle has 1.5" wheel spacers (just put on 2 days ago) and they broke one of the studs. This whole process should have taken 1 hour. At the 1 hour and 45 minute mark I had to ask for an update. Oddly enough the waiting room has a large glass where you can see all activity going on. I knew before I asked that they had broken a stud because I could see them working. Once they did finally address the issue with me, the excuse was the same. It's a new tech and he didn't used the factory torque specs and therefore broke the stud. Of course after the fact they state that their policy is to not work on vehicles with after market parts (in my case spacers) but the "new tech" was unaware. Seems like that would be some fairly important knowledge to impart on your techs. Not sure if there is a failure to train new techs on policy or just an excuse. My gut tells me it's a combination of both. Guess the overwhelming consensus that gives this pep boys a low rating is accurate. read more

Left lug nut off of tire! They checked out my car and I did not have them do the work due to the expensive quote. I ended up doing the work myself. I went to remove the tire and a lug nut was missing. Sloppy or careless...take your pick but I wouldn't recommend these folks to anyone. read more

SAD! SAD! SAD! Thieves in disguise!!! Today we took my son's car to get an alignment, they asked us to drop the car off, we did and they called us back to pick it up after about 2 hours. We picked up the car at about 5.45, went to the mall across from the shop, and and left at about 6: 05 pm and as soon as we got on the mains street we noticed nothing was done to the vehicle, it was still pulling to the right as badly as it initially was. We called but they were already closed. They charged us $129.00 after arguing with the so called Assistant Manager that the price quoted to us on the phone was $119 for a one year warranty alignment , but she insisted that the one year warranty alignment was 129:00. We did not want to argue any further, so we presented a $10.00 Coupon we had, and she reluctantly took it applied it and then charged us shop supply fee of $12:00 which increased the price to the original amount. We could not believe it. What kind of supplies do you use for alignment? We asked, what shop supply, but they could not explain it. We ended up paying, or better yet scammed out of $134.02. The vehicle practically still have the same problem of pulling to the right when driving. I have seen so many complaints on this website and can not believe these people are still in business, on top of how rude all the staff people are. PLEASE HEAR ME OUT DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE. I really miss Sears Automotive at the Georgia Square Mall, they were very honest about everything they did to our vehicle. If they can't fix it they will also let you know. If I could give no star, I would have. Please, do not accept any apologies from the owner(s), because if they are apologetic they would have fixed the problems. They are all about making money by all means. Similar to Greg L, I brought my car in for oil change. When I left, I saw that they failed to reseT the oil life cycle. Ok-poor service, but something I can take care of. I live about 10 miles from that location. About 1 mile from my home, check engine light came on. My check engine light has never come on. At the same time, a strong smell of burning oil permeated my vehicle. I knew there was big trouble. I pulled the Jeep in my garage and opened the hood. There was oil everywhere-on top of the engine housing, on the cowl, on the cooling fan, all over the belt and pulleys and on the steering gear. The dip stick and oil fill cap were in place so I looked underneath. There was even more oil on the undercarriage. The best I could tell is that it is either a drain plug or oil filter issue. My garage floor has fresh motor oil all over it. I placed cardboard down to protect it as much as it could. I called service manager, Keith BUrns at 8:04pm. Of course, all I got was an automated message. I called 2nd time....nope. I know they close at 8, but why list a separate number for the service manager if it serves no better purpose than the main phone number. This situation is still unfolding and I can't wait to see what pep boys has in store for me next. I took it there to save time. I can do my on oil changes, but this time saving ordeal will now take exponentially more time than if I haD done myself. I know what happens when you run an eNgine with no oil. I have a feeling they will try to brush it off. I have zero confidence in this place. Zero! read more

When I asked to speak to the manager he said he was the manager. He said his men have lives and did not want to stay longer than they had to. I only needed 2 tires put on. Went in to get my TPMS check and replaced. The mechanic I first spoke with was rude. That's not even the problem. According to the Pep Boys website, I should have been charged $ 17.99 + the price of the sensor which includes the following services: (taken directly from Pep Boys website) Testing of each of your vehicle's TPMS sensor batteries to determine which sensors require replacement Removal of tire Removal of old sensor and proper installation and programming of a new one by a tire professional Proper rebalancing of the wheel Check and set tire pressure to your vehicle's specification Courtesy Vehicle Inspection Not only was I charged for wheel balancing again, I also got charged for the TPMS Check and Reset which was a combined total of 30 bucks, on top of the $17.99. A week before I went in, I called to price the sensor and was informed that it was going to be around 70 bucks, when I got there, I was charged $ 108 dollars. I will never go back to this shop again. By far, Pep Boys is the GREATEST car repair shop I have been to. The staff is friendly, attentive, honest, and caring. Whenever I have a problem with my car, from as minute as a rearview mirror screw coming lose to something as major as getting new brake pads/other fancy car things, Pep Boys has been there to help me out. Matt (the manager) knows me by name/face and treats me as a regular customer. Time estimates are always accurate and they have never overcharged me. The best car repair shop all around! Dear Sir/Madam, I just received the above email regarding my recent visit to Pep Boys Athens in Athens, GA. I would like to give you a little insight into my visit, as it was one of the most negative customer service experiences I have ever had. I originally scheduled my appointment online. I was interested in your $24.99 conventional oil change. I called the Pep Boys Athens to inquire about the price of having my tires balanced, to which the person on the phone replied simply "12.99". I thought this sounded like a fairly good deal so I went ahead and scheduled my appointment online for Friday, Oct. 18 at 11:00am. I arrived at the store at about 10:50am on my scheduled appointment day. The person who greeted me was David. After asking my name, he looked up my appointment. He found my appointment but said none of my information, including what my appointment was actually for, was in the system. So, after giving David all of that information again he informed me that the final bill would be around $75, meaning that the $12.99 tire balance I was quoted was actually "per tire", which I was not told over the phone. I gave David my keys and told him I was stepping across the street to the mall. He said my car would be ready in about an hour. At 12:00 I came back to the store. David pulled me aside to inform me that they had some concerns about the wear on a couple of my tires. He then proceeded to tell me several OTHER things that they felt were wrong with my car and that they weren't sure if they would even be able to balance the tires. I asked him how much longer they would be with my car and he told me that the technician had not even changed the oil yet. At this point, I'm pretty frustrated because I had gone past my lunch break time and needed to go back to work. I told David that I would call somoene to come and pick me up and that I would be back later for my car. I sat down to wait on my ride. David called me back over a few minutes later and told me that they had done some looking around on my car and that it looked like my suspension, among other things, was bad. He said they were just about finished with my car and he would go ahead and ring me up. We went over to the register and he told me my total was "55.92." When I inquired as to why, when I was expecting to pay $24.99, he told me that the steering/suspension inspection was an extra $19.99. Since this was not an inspection I had either requested OR approved, you can imagine my irritation when he tried to charge me for it. I asked him if I was still required to pay for that since I didn't ask for it. He called over a manger (Mike) and told him to zero the charge out - meaning he just tried to slip one by me in the hopes that I wouldn't question it. So at this point, I am pretty fed up with David and the Pep Boys Athens store. David tells me that he is going to get my keys; this is at around 12:30. I go ahead and tell my ride that I'm almost finished so there's no need in picking me up. I spend the next THIRTY MINUTES pacing around the store waiting on the keys to my car. Not one staff member asked me if i needed anything, if they could help me in any way or even seemed to care that I was still there. At 1:00pm (TWO HOURS after I dropped my car off), I asked Mike (the "manager") how much longer they would be with my car. He got my information then spent the next 5-10 minutes asking everyone where David was; no one seemed to know. At this point, I am so incredibly upset that I am in tears in your store. Did anyone offer to help me, ask if I'm okay, or even acknowledge me at all? No, they did not. Finally, at 1:10pm David came up to me to apologize and offer me a complimentary oil change, which I (of course) declined. My keys were returned a few minutes later and I was on my way. However, not only had I wasted two hours of my work day at this point but I was also upset to the point of tears. I think you need to take a strong look at your employees and their customer service training. On my end, I will absolutely not be a returning customer of Pep Boys. I will also be telling everyone I know what terrible service you have at your company. I hope, in the future, no one else has to go through the experience that I went through at Pep boys Athens. Time management means nothing to this group. I really wish I had a nice review, I think the mechanics do a good job, but the customer service is abysmal. First time I was in they had my car for over 3 hours to fix the valve stems they neglected to replace while installing new tires. Then today I go in for a routine oil change, something that should take no more than a half hour. An hour and a half later I walk back over from the mall to find my car parked on the lot. Why they didn't let me know it's done, with three guys behind the counter is beyond me. Then when the math on the bill didn't add up it took them another half hour to correct a simple mistake. Horrendous experience at Athens Pep Boys on the Atlanta Hwy!!!!! I don't even want to give them one star. I arrived at 3:30 one afternoon to have my tire fixed due to a screw in it. I went and waited in their waiting room. I waited, waited, my car was still in the parking lot. Waited, waited, then I see it being worked on. Waited, and it is now 3 hours later. I asked what was taking so long. They said they tried to call me because they couldn't fix it because of where the screw was located and that they tried to call me. My phone didn't ring or didn't show as any missed calls and...... I am in your waiting room! Amanda said..."I"m sorry, I can't leave the counter! It's been so busy." They also didn't have my tire type...but couldn't leave the counter to come and tell me! Stupid people!!!! read more
