I have to say, this is the first time that I actually seek out an out of state service center to give them a rave review. You see.. driving back from Saginaw, TX to Los Angeles, we were involved in a highway incident that left our poor Chevy Volt with a pretty much destroyed front right wheel. As it turns out, it is virtually impossible to get the actual wheel in less than a week.. and it was hard enough to get even an INCORRECT temp wheel, but Lamanza and Brandon went out of their way to make it happen.. while we were stranded in Abiliene for 3 days.. that was MUCH better than the alternative SEVEN days required to get the right part. I verified from nearby Chevy dealers that this was actually a fact.. so, again, we are very grateful for everything Brandon and Lamanza did for us.. and might I say, the price was VERY reasonable, showing that they cared we were in a difficult situation and did their best to not make it worse. My wife and I want to clearly state, this Pep Boys is a bonafide GREAT place to take your car for service. We trust them and are grateful. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I arrived 5 minutes before my 9am appointment. there was only one person at the front desk so it look longer than usual to get help. While i'm waiting and next in line the man proceeds to say "do you need something" as if i'm not already and been waiting in line for 20 minutes which, was understandable because there was only one person. I then get to the counter and ask with my two services can i also add on a oil change and then later change my mind about it after hearing the price when I usually get it done for cheaper amount. Then when he gives me the final price for my services it is way more than what i was quoted for on the phone and I asked how much each things costed and there was a bunch of extra things added on and so being irritated with this customer service and plus the pricing, I walked out. I later then called to speak with a manager, I was told to wait and I waited for 10 minutes and then had to call back because no one was answering. I finally am able to speak with the manager after waiting 15 minutes on hold and then he proceeds to say that a $70 oil change is cheaper than most oil changes because I have a older car and I told him well I'm getting it done at another place right now because it's cheaper and he replied with "well do you get it done for free". Then about the price change he constantly was blaming it on a employee that they had let go this week, and said it could possibly be him who gave me the quote instead of taking responsibility. I then explained regardless of if you let an employee go and he was the one who gave me the quote, they were still representing PEP BOYS as a company and proceeded to give me that quote after 30 minutes of explaining what needed to be done. He then says "that's a whole other conversation we aren't going to get into" saying how that's not the case and how i'm talking about things that don't correlate with the situation. Basically just blaming the whole thing on not only ME but also the so said let go employee due to miscommunication. at some point i hung up the call because it kept going in circles he then calls back twice and said "well we don't even have a tech to fix what you have going on" which is an electrical issue regarding my back taillight. The conversation was wrapped up quickly because it seemed like they just wanted me to come back in to get a run for my money even though he already said they can't fix what i needed to get done and I told him I was going to take it somewhere else and the call ended. I have never ever received this type of customer service and lack of respect, communication, and patience from a "professional" company like this so I am very surprised and I do not recommend ever going there for anything. I have a nail in my tire. I came in for help getting the nail out and get a tire patch. They told me their machine for tire patching is broken and the new technician they hired broke it. They said they do not recommend me getting a tire patch from the new guy. I have to go somewhere else to get a tire patch. :( read more

Had Pep Boys changed my brakes for $1400 it's pretty expensive to begin with but wanted it done fast instead of trying to do it myself and taking all day. They got it done in three hours, but then 5 miles down the road. My driver tire flies off caused a whole bunch of body damage and who knows what future damage could stem from my truck crashing onto the pavement at 35 miles an hour luckily my daughter wasn't with me or I wasn't on the highway going 70 mph or more. Manager? was kind and really wanted to make it up to me, but unfortunately, his hands are tied in the regional Director is trying to skimp by and barely give me any kind of compensation. You don't get to have my truck for almost 2 weeks by the time I get it painted and everything And barely do the mechanical repairs with no type of compensation ridiculous. He's just worried about his bonus. I should've just waited and scheduled a reputable place around Abilene or maybe where I was heading out of town too save your time and money go elsewhere. People aren't perfect but whenever you do Make a mistake, you have to stand behind your people and make it right for the customer obviously the regional director, and whoever Higher Up than him doesn't care about that they just care about lining their pockets. read more

I took my car in for a brake inspection due to me hearing a bit of squeaking when I brake, I took my car in with the brakes already purchased so all I basically needed was the brakes changed if they were in need of a change. I knew for sure that my rotors were good with no issues. After sitting for 2 hrs I was told that all of my brakes needed to be changed and my back rotors were bad and I would need to purchase and have them changed there and the cost for the entire service was around $800. So I decided to leave and get another opinion. I took my car to someone else and were told that my brakes were good for another 20,000-40,000 miles and there was nothing wrong with my rotors. Pictures were taken to show me how much brake pad was left on each pad. I was told the squeaking is probably from dust/dirt that accumulated from my car sitting for a long period of time. Which makes sense because we don't drive this car too often. So I would not suggest this car shop because it seems as though they will try to get over on you. I would have been out $1000 all together if I listened to this location but I'm glad I went with my gut and left. read more

It was a hot day outside of Abilene Texas Pep boys and within 2 hours of closing so in fairness considering that the service manager was not full of the truth here's what happened. First, I'm elderly and disabled and I was there for a free brake inspection which involves pulling a tire and literally just looking. Tire removal never happened. They use the old trick of lets pop the hood, walk away like they're on it but go take a 20 minute break. These same Two guys, after their break stood at the hood and stared at the engine. After one and a half hours the manager in charge proceeded to tell me BS about 'my brake problem'. Without going into 10 minutes more of writing, let's just say Im very experienced in changing out of break pads but like I said, I'm getting old ---I knew he was full of it. --- That guy (let's call him J. ), has missed his calling and should be a slick haired used car salesman. He said he didn't take the tire off to measure the pad thickness because "my car could blow up". Lmbo. As soon as I got my car back from the mechanic I said that I didn't have brake issues to begin with and I just wanted to know if I should change them out. He started saying my pedal went to the floor and it could be my master cylinder. BS! My brake pedal and brakes were in FULL WORKING ORDER. So, I took my car to Midas on north 1st In Abilene Texas. Yes the front pads were low but not down to the audible markers. I watched them change the pads out in less than 20 minutes for half the price of pep boys and arrow fords estimate. Another reason for one star is that this location is closed for everything except minor repairs and tires. There are no auto parts anymore. SO DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. So if J. Had been honest and said his men were wore out I wouldn't be leaving this review. But no, he fed me a line of BS. HIS 'mechanic' fed me a line and BTW, Lazy is another word that comes to mind. I finally am a victim of driving while being elderly. Shame on pep boys. read more

Rip off. If you need a mucha of seek else where in Abilene. The other day I drove my car in because i wasn't sure what was wrong with my car and they came at me with a 200$ bill just to diagnose my car. I then was okay with that until they hit me with a 3,850 dollar bill to fix my catalytic converter and some other things they said was wrong with my vehicle. I decided to take to my car to the dealer and they said that none of those two things were true. In reality I only needed to replace my sparks plug and the total was 400$. I am truly happy with the results I have with my car and haven't had issues since. Please save yourself and avoid coming to this place. read more

Charged my grandson $180 for a battery for his Honda Accord and it wasnt even the right size battery. Also charged him $104 for an oil change that cost him $55 before he left home to go to school. Truck wouldn't start when we were in Bronte. Got someone to jump start it. We got back to Abilene and went straight to Pep Boys and left the truck running. It was 7:45 pm. Husband asked if they could check the alternator. They said it takes 30 minutes and they were closing in 15 minutes. The lady working there told him to go to Auto Zone on S 1st. They wouldn't even come out and test the battery. Then the truck died. We had to call our son to come jump start the truck. Went to Auto Zone, they came out immediately, tested the battery and said it needed replacing. Husband went in and bought a battery for $211. Pep Boys could have made money selling a battery if they had just tried to help us. Guess they were more interested in closing. Won't be going back to Pep Boys. read more

I have had several dealing with this Pep Boys location in the past and haven't been impressed by any visit. My most recent visit was after I had made an appointment for a diagnostics the night before. I told Jay over the phone that all I needed was an alignment and not a diagnostics. Jay said good about not needing the diagnostics because he didn't have anytime for it. So we scheduled to have the alignment done at 9 a.m.. I was also advised that there were 3 other folks scheduled at 9 a.m. so it would be much later in the day before my vehicle was checked out. On one of my previous visits was told I needed to arrive before the store opened, like a first come first serve and asked about coming in earlier. Jay told me he had to have the car in before he would give me a time so we did just that. I arrived shortly after they opened and after finishing up on two other cars it was time for my vehicle to get checked out. After about 15 minutes I was advised against doing an alignment until I had work done on ball joints and other items all for the low price of 1500.00. This did not include the tax and other parts the vehicle might need which I could understand but I could not understand the price was for only 1 ball joint instead of two. Most vehicles need a right and a left and some parts estimated only had one. After adding up what he had noted it came up to 1700. and with addition parts and tax would make the total closer to 2000. Plus, I did not have the 8 hours he said it would take to get the job done. So I went down to Midas and got the job done for around 1500. That included all the parts, labor, tax warranties minus the belly aching about how short staffed they were like Jay did at Pep Boys. I could not believe how efficient Midas seemed to be completely opposite of what I had just observed at Pep Boys where at least four customers were turned away for oil changes and small other small jobs. After witnessing what a finely oiled working machine Midas is I don't think that I could take my vehicle anywhere else to get it fixed. read more

Thank god for the two employees at this location. Being locals from Louisiana and coming from Denver, CO to Waco, TX.. we encountered a flat in a completely unfamiliar town, a travelers worst nightmare... after sitting on the side of the road for what seemed like hours we finally we're able to get an answered phone call from this Pep Boys. We arrived 10 minutes before closing- we felt TERRIBLE. But the guy in the back was happy to patch our tire and put it all back on for us, no problem. We ran into a few issues, but everything was handled smoothly, even after we held them up an hour after closing. We're so thankful that they were willing to stay to help us out and get us back on the road! read more

Jay and Pop (Mike) have been taking excellent are of all my cars for several years. As a former service writer and technician, I am getting past the age of DIY repairs. It's not uncommon for the online scheduling service to overbook 8:00 appointments. Always good to confirm with someone at the desk to make sure. Usually, Jay already has the work order filled out as soon as I walk up, and my wait time is minimal. They always offer options and never try to sell me anything I don't need. i highly recommend this Abilene store, in spite of what I have heard about Pep Boys in other cities. My only regret is they stay so busy, it sometimes take a couple of days to get an opening. read more

The reason I came here was because I needed a headlight changed. They told me they charge by the hour and it would be over $100. I told them that's ridiculous because I've seen it changed out and that it's a 5 minute job. Then I say nevermind about that, my check engine light is on can you check that. After running the codes they say that the first step is to run a 4 step fuel system clean and that may fix it. $300 later... my car is still running exactly like it is. I call them and explain that and they say to bring it in for ANOTHER FUEL SYSTEM CLEAN. I took it upon myself to do some research and pull my own codes. Turns out, the codes had NOTHING to do with the work they did. I needed $6 spark plugs (which I had mentioned I thought was the issue, but they told me it probably wasn't) I'm not an idiot, but they saw an unaccompanied pregnant woman and took me for a sucker. I trusted them. Word of advice: do your own research before taking your car to anyone. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!! Now I'm out $300 and pep boys doesn't want to make it right. read more

Jay and Mike have always been helpful; they have saved me money finding coupons for me. I took my car in for A brake check, oil change, and A flat repair. Also A tire rotation. They called me and told me that the pads and shoes were fine but needed adjustment on the rear. I was impressed as they could have tried to sell me unneeded parts. they said I needed a drive belt as well and I said go ahead. when I picked up the car, they told me only a valve core needed to be replaced for the flat. OK........so when I walked up to the car I see the rotation was not done. I get in and there is no oil sticker. i'm in a hurry to get the car inspected ( their inspector is out) so I let this go. well, they did not reset the oil life indicator. they left it one qt. short on oil. did not check the air filter. did not check the wiper blades, Avis lube replaced them for the inspection. all 4 tires had different air pressures. really sloppy, half-assed work. charged A flat repair without breaking the tire down. To be fair, they offered to refund the flat and oil change. but the point is it should have been done right the first time. I did not accept the refund on principle and I will NEVER use pep boys again read more

While driving from work to home from West Texas to Fort Worth, I got a flat tire. After changing it and driving home on my spare, I called around for a replacement. No one had my tire, and I had to be back at work in in a day. On the way back to West Texas, I decided to call Pep Boys in Abilene, as it was more or less on the way. The gentleman that answered - named Jay - quickly showed himself to be knowledgeable, as well as courteous and helpful. I told him I'd be through next time I was heading to Fort Worth. I stopped in a week and a half later, and Jay not only changed my tire, he noticed some severe wear to another tire that was not easily visible, but quite dangerous. This second tire could have easily caused a blowout, but for the fact that Jay paid better attention to my tires than me. Purchased a Bosch battery, had it replaced as defective 3 times within a year or so. The 4th time, I was told by this store that it was an alternator, $350, and not the battery. Did not believe them, I removed the alternator, tested it at O'Reilly and it was good. Purchased a battery from O'Reilly, installed it and put the old alternator back on my truck...works fine. Took the battery back to PB, they bench tested it, said it was good amnd the store manager, Katie Springfield, said no refund. Complained to the BBB and received a reply from Robin Searl from corp denying the refund. Guess my next step is to file small claims and possibly contact the Texas OAG regarding the misdiagnosis and attempt to hit me up for $350. All I want is my $100 or so refunded. I do not care to ever visit this store again. The battery is still at the store and I will not go pick it up. I was a PB employee for over 14 years, mostly in managing this particular store and denying me a refund for customer satisfaction seems to be a personal thing with the current store manager and/or DM. What a shame...willing to lose all potential future business from me and anyone that asks me where to shop for automotive parts or service over $100 refund. I would like to mention that the service desk staff were great. They changed the battery for on the 3rd defective unit due to my recent back surgery. I forgot to mention on my original review that I requested a quote to install a passenger side mirror assembly (I had the part with me). I am handy with tools, but my socket set was not thin-walled enough to loosen the 3 bolts that held the assembly in place. Squirrelly-guy quote me $100+, an hour at their shop labor rate, for a 10-15 minute job. He justified this by saying 'we have to disassemble the door to get to the mirror'...what a crock of cheese! I just had the mirror installed for 15 minutes of another shops labor, removing the 3 bolts, just like I told him it would go. It BURNS me that this guy thinks women don't know anything about servicing cars! read more

Made an appointment 4 days ahead with the repair I needed. After we arrived at 10 am, was told they don't do after factory work and would not even look at it. It was a third brake light on a 2004 Tahoe. They had plenty of time to call and cancel the appointment if they didn't know how to do the work. The shop we finally found to do the work was Firestone Tire -- Go There! All of the shops we went to before we found one to do the work which took less than two hours did not know what "after factory" work means. The lights are what came on the car from the factory -- after that isn't all work "after factory"? I give Pep Boys in Abilene very poor customer service and lacking in auto service knowledge !!!! read more
