If only I could give "0" stars... RUDE!!! RUDE!!! Took my car to get a diagnostic check. Called to pick it up. No discussion of what was done, what was checked, or what could be wrong with my car. I called and asked what was done, he asked what the name was under, put me on hold, then came back and said, "ma'am that vehicle was picked up".. I said I know, we just got home with it and I would like to know what was done and what's wrong with it. He said they didn't find anything.. if nothing is wrong, then why does my car have 1) a rough start 2) vibrates in idle and reverse 3) it shakes and acts like it wants to die 4) it died on my husband in PARK in the DRIVEWAY this morning. He said nothing was said to them about any of that. So I asked what they do in a diagnostics check. He said it depends on. I asked on what? "Ma'am it depends on the vehicle". I asked if was hooked up to machine or scanner or what's done... music started playing. He put me on HOLD. Without telling me. I waited SEVERAL minutes without anyone picking the phone back up, so I hung up and called back. I said that was "NOT COOL!" You put me on hold without saying a word and you didn't even come back. "Ma'am, I have 5 people here waiting. I'll call you back when I have time".. I said no.. that's rude! He was talking to me first and I want to know what's wrong with my car because nothing was said when my husband showed up. He was handed the keys and told to have a good day! He said plenty was said. So I asked l... again... what diagnostic was ran, was anything found because I need my car fixed. He said nothing was found that he told my husband he can try to change out the motor mounts (we ordered them the other day with transmission mounts also and they came in today), so something must've been said for him to tell my husband to try what he already had intentions of doing. I asked how a diagnostic can be ran and nothing show, when my car obviously SHOWS signs. They should've noticed when they drove my car to move it. "Ma'am, I'm hanging up. Don't call here again and don't bring your vehicle here anymore, we won't work on it".. I asked his name.. "My name is Shawn and I'm the owner and I'm telling you not to come back here again." I asked "WHY?!" I just wanted to know what was done. We took it for a diagnostics. "And we didn't charge you for that ma'am. Don't call back. Don't bring your vehicle back." .. And here I am. Writing a review to let EVERYONE know how rude and unprofessional "Shawn" and Gary's Automotive is! If there was a choice of "0" stars, I would've picked that, but I had to pick the "1" star. We have taken our vehicles there before with no problem, but not anymore. Not after today. VERY RUDE!! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! ("Shawn Grisham" is the owner of "Gary's"). Go somewhere else. Don't waste your time or money on a place that's unprofessional!! *Adding that my husband said that Shawn cut him off while he was trying to tell him what was wrong with my car, to talk to another customer about a $4,500 transmission job... you don't do that! We were in the middle of a twelve hour roadtrip when our check engine light came on, then began flashing. AutoZone could not find any specific issue, but recommended we see a mechanic. Every other place we called was unable to see us today. Gary's Automotive discovered we were basically out of oil (Jiffy Lube did not recommend an oil change for another 2k miles). They've always done a great job for me and my family. No complaints on any of the work that's been done to my vehicles over the years.

A couple of years ago my brake lights were staying on. Paid $170 for repair. A year later I found a metal brad on the floor and the brake lights were staying on again. There's a hole in a flat part of the brake pedal that they put a brad in the touch the switch. This time I googled and I found out there is an $8 rubber pad that goes on that flat part of the pedal. I could have fixed it myself and they should have told me that. I got ripped off. read more

My Granddaughter had brought Her car to another (so called automotive repair) shop. After countless excuses and days she went and got her car and brought it here to Gary's. Expecting another long wait she gets a call the day after she dropped it off telling her it is fixed. Really it took them 1/2 an hour to find something that the other place kept saying we have to dig deeper, and still couldn't find. All I can say is WOW! We were stuck on the side of the road just one day before a holiday. Not only did they find the part, but they got the fuel pump replaced in one day! We are traveling through town, so we appreciate their prompt response so we can be back on the road. They treated us fair and had excellent customer service. Highly recommend!! read more

Needed our car back today. Was told it would probably be done. No phone call. We tried to call before 4:00 to find out the status and there was no answer. Went by there at 5:00 and they were closed but everywhere we looked it said they were open until 5:30. I've not had great luck with mechanics doing what they say they are going to do...and this just proves me right again. Now we are without a car and have 3 people needing to get to 3 different jobs on Monday and only one car...thanks Gary read more

Gary, Shawn and the crew always do a great job and treat you with respect as a customer. My family has been pleased with the service they provide for the past several years. If they have to order a part that won't come in for a couple days they let you know so you can pick up your vehicle and bring back when it arrives. I have to tell you I haven't had a more horrible experience in my life. My husband and I purchased a vehicle from a dealer and the night we took it home it stopped working. Luckily, we purchased from a dealer who actually cared about our family and has gone out of his way to make it right. My husband has kept open and direct lines of communication with the Gary's Automotive in regards to parts; just wanting to remain involved in the care of our vehicle. After misdiagnosing our vehicle twice; my husband were expecting a call telling us when our car would be ready and they never called. My husband chose to call them because we were relying on this vehicle as our main transportation taking our kids on a Spring Break vacation. When he called the mechanic had explained that the vehicle wasn't going to be ready and that they misdiagnosed the issue once again and clearly charging our dealer even more. At this point we have started to feel bad for our dealer because they have taken advantage of him. When the dealer mentioned to the mechanics that we were a military family, Shawn was quick to say oh, "make them pay for it." For the record I am a SrA in the Air Force with a family of 5 and we rely on only my income. We saved up $6,000 to purchase a vehicle that stopped working the same day. Granted we understand as a Texas dealer he legally has no obligation to help make our purchase right but, that is what separates the good form the bad in the business and consumer relationship. After my husband contacted them about an update and discovering the news of another repair being needed my husband was confused as to why they didn't hold the same respectful communication lines that my husband had held with them this whole time, over a week. Shawn became very rude and told my husband 'I don't have to tell you anything,' which regardless of whether the dealer is the customer or my husband as the owner, this is horrible, horrible customer service. All we were asking was to stay in the loop with our vehicle and we have never experienced such hostility in this with any other situation. My husband went with the dealer to Gary's Automotive to discuss the issues with the vehicle and my husband mentioned how he felt the customer service was horrible and how rude Shawn was, once he did that they had threatened to call the cops. I am not sure why but, the situation didn't escalate to that point they were only talking but considering the racial slurs made previously, in their words 'N*igga,' music needed to be shut off while rap was playing on their radio I don't know if they assumed my husband was illegal but, my husband ended up calling the police for them. They are currently being place on the banned-list for military personnel to avoid using their shop. These are the mechanics people fear will take advantage of them and their character is so very poor. They have cost the dealer doing the repair over $1000 and still can't determine the issue. Please beware of these people, we have never been treated so poorly. In addition, when we recieved our vehicle back the cluster replaced was never reprogrammed so our vehicle that has 88k miles now shows as have 125k, the dvd player and backup camera were not reprogrammed, and the windshield fluid won't spray, all things that worked perfectly before they service our vehicle and items they didn't take time to care about. We now have to take to second mechanic to have reprogrammed, something that takes 15 minutes, and pay additional money. Do not use this company, you will regret it. read more

Being new to the Abilene area, I was not sure who to take my car to or who I could trust. Gary's was recommended by several people around town so I took a chance. I will tell it was the best decision I ever made. The work was done professionally, timely and right on the nose in regards to the estimate. The staff is very polite and professional.
