OH - People's Pharmacy how do I love thee? Let me count the ways! #1 - Super smart, helpful, outrageously customer service oriented REAL people. In over 7 years I haven't had one bad experience with the staff. Actually, my interactions have always been ***** experiences. Over the top! #2 - Every person I have recommended to go there has called me back to rave about them and thank me for turning them on to them. #3 - When my little boy got a UTI and the idiots at the pediatricians office didn't return my phone calls and gave him the wrong medicine (causing him to SCREAM in pain for hours)...People's knew what to give him homeopathically and what to do to keep him well - and lots of concern on top of that. #4 - When insurance wouldn't cover an expensive medicine at a regular drug store I called them (it was one of those last hope moments) for advice on what to do alternatively...they offered to get the medicine and let me pay what I could and then make payments. Blew me away - made me cry that people can actually care! wow! #5 - totally fun to shop there - neat things everywhere you look. #6 - They have the amazing yogurt in glass jars from White Egret Farm! #7 - They have the amazing raw honey (forget the name of it). I love customer service. And this is why I am left with a bad taste in my mouth, People's Rx. I came here because my male friend said that they had the best oatmeal raisin cookie. We drove here, and when he walked in, all of the female staffed started fawning all over him, which was cool......for him, I guess. I stood in front of the cookie case and waited to get helped while my male friend shopped. The lady saw him (he was SHOPPING BEHIND ME while I was STANDING IN LINE IN FRONT OF THE COOKIE CASE) and asked him if he needed help. Then walked around him, around me, and back to the case, grabbed his cookie, walked past me, towards him, and handed him his cookie, then walked past me, to the back, AND IGNORED ME. I stood there in disbelief. Is this really happening? Is this how a man feels at a bar surrounded by attractive women while the bartender ignores him? METHINKS SO. I waited about a minute. *insert throat clear* "Um, can I get some help please?" So, unless I grow a wiener, this place gets one star. read more

This is an amazing pharmacy. They compound my medication when needed. They also call when medication us not available for any reason. They have gotten medications for me from sister pharmacies. They have had certain vitamin supplements I have needed due to gastric bypass.. They are always knowledgeable and friendly. read more

People's is such an interesting place. First off, they have a deli. Which actually? That's probably not that weird since I remember the counter diner at the drugstore when I was little. We'd always get grilled cheese and vanilla Coke after seeing the doctor while we waited to get our prescription filled. However, People's deli isn't really like that. They also have breakfast tacos, not that I've ever tried one. What I love about People's is that it combines modern medicine with homeopathic medicine and the pharmacists seem to know all about both. In addition, I've had a couple of doctors send me here to pick up a prescription that they knew only People's would carry. That's pretty cool. They also carry a line of skin care for people with cancer. Last summer, I got one of the gel packs from this line. You keep it in the refrigerator and you can slap it on your body when you start getting the "prednisone flush", a lovely burning sensation like that of a very bad sunburn that generally lasts a few days while taking prednisone. I kept it in the fridge at home or work and slapped it on my face or arms when the burning would start. People's was the only place in town that carried this thing and it was amazing. read more

I do not have anything less then fabulous to say about this place. I work across the street for one of my jobs...and walked over to get some grub. I have had great experiences with all things people related in North and Central Austin ( see my reviews on low carb muffins and neurotransmitter awesomeness:) So I had high hopes that this people would be just as good. 1. They have amazing coffee. Decaf even. Its called Katz... and when I no longer work at a coffee shop I will somehow buy it exclusively. Swiss process of decaffeinating= no crazy chemicals used in the process, and it tastes dang good with soy milk. 2. The have a make your own salad thing. I had: bell peppers and olives, and tomatoes, and feta, and alfalfa sprouts , and pecans and organic salad dressing and spring mix and some grape chicken salad. For 6 bucks. I am tempted to move to south Austin and eat here every day. 3. Some of the guys who work here are cute. And didn't think it was weird when I wanted said salad at 10 in the morning... 4. Plus, all kinds of healthy vitamins and the like. I have a secret desire to win the lottery and spend large amounts of money on super fresh healthy food and vitamins. Although i'm sure the staff is knowledgeable, I haven't seen it. The place is always way too busy, and i can barely squeeze in this tiny place. Seriously, 2lines are 6 people deep, spewing into the aisles which then cannot be shopped cuz some patchouli chick is standing there, basking in her vegan farts. If your business is so darn hot, and you have been in the location for 30 years, why not expand into the next storefront to better serve your customers? do something! Quick! before Sunflower Shoppe starts a franchise here... Oh, looking for PRID homeopathic Drawing Salve? They dont have it, try Walgreen's. shocker. I want to support home-grown local peeps, but they dont cut it. If you notice 4 people walk out of the store without buying something, that's generally a customer service issue- particularly for a specialty store. I can only gush about People's Rx. Their staff genuinely seems to care about every single customer. I always feel like the pharmacists are taking a special interest in me when they see what sort of medication I'm taking. They're never pushy, if I don't feel like talking about it, but if I have questions, every pharmacists has shared a wealth of knowledge with me. The truth is that they take a special interest in all of their customers. The staff members are some of the nicest, most helpful people I've ever met. I didn't know what a pharmacy experience could-- no, SHOULD-- be like when I was using Walgreen's. As if that wasn't enough, they have an incredible selection of supplements, health food and beverages. The deli section serves top notch food to compete with any other sandwich joint in Austin, probably serving better ingredients. I know I prefer their breakfast tacos to a lot of other places as well and, having been born and raised in South Texas, I consider myself quite the breakfast taco snob. I visit the pharmacy FREQUENTLY just for food. In fact, I'm going the minute I'm done here to squeeze in a sandwich before work. I really can't recommend People's Rx more highly. read more

Stumbled upon this wonderful pharmacy/wellness/sandwich shop. I couldn't be happier. Everyone was super nice and helpful. The pharmacist actually consults with each customer about prescriptions, offers advice, and answers questions as a standard practice. I felt the prices were totally reasonable and the variety of homeopathic remedies were amazing. Not to mention the knowledge on every item and topic the staff had to share. I didn't get a chance to grab anything to eat, but everything looked great. I will be back. This is my new go-to for pharmacy and health needs. P.S. Peoples really does beat the prices of the big chains. I recently was prescribed a drug that wasn't covered by my insurance. I called Walgreens, CVS, Wal Mart and People's for price checks and Peoples beat the prices of the others hands down. I saved $25.00. The people are always super nice there and if you're looking for some special kind of supplement or natural remedy, chances are they carry it there. read more

I was in the area doing errands and getting hungrier by the minute. I was surrounded by fast food options and getting desperate. Then tucked away near a Wendy's I spotted People's Rx. I heard they have fresh food so I thought I'd give it a shot. Awesomeness. They have a little bakery type section (grains are a no-no for me, so I moved on, even though it looked quite tempting), then a whole slew of prepared foods. You could get a wrap, some chicken or tuna salad, etc, and you could also order a ton of things directly from the counter, like smoothies. I picked out a gorgeous chicken-salad stuffed tomato. Of course it was marked up with stickers like Farmer's Market, Pastured eggs, and Local to denote the freshness of the veggies, egg, and meat. WOW. I have never eaten a pastured egg cuz they are like 5.99 a dozen. (Pastured is different than "cage free "or "organic" if ya care, worth looking up if you are a health nut like myself). Now I know why they cost so much - because they are friggin DELICIOUS. I only got one measly hard boiled egg and this thing had so much flavor...amazing. Most hard boiled eggs are just a rubbery blob you gotta salt up or mix with mayo, etc to make tasty. This was incredibly good as is. The rest of the salad was great, and for $5 was a solid amount of food. Just a perfect perfect lunch. Thanks People's Rx for saving the day! read more

Switched to this pharmacy from a 24hr Walgreens because I wanted a locally owned place to have my business. After working near the North Lamar location and eating their food for lunch frequently, I ventured in to check out their extensive selection of natural/alternative drugs/remedies/supplements, etc. The best part about my South Peoples Rx is the natural health/nutrition consultant. I wish I could remember his name, but he is so kind and helpful. The staff is friendly and non-invasive but offer up plenty of good information. Only thing I can say hasn't been perfect (by no fault of the business) is that it can get kind of cramped in there. I must usually bring my child with me, so unless I can get in and out quickly (I look at the length of the lines and either stay or go), I wait to go until I can be more patient. Lots of cool healthy options here for foods and supplements and a nice local feel. Their flourless chocolate cake - A-MAZING!!!! Seriously, I was blown away by how something can be so delicious with only 5-6 ingredients. I've heard the chocolate creme pie is outstanding, too. We tried 3 other cupcake type things there (strawberry, Italian cream or something, and the Hostess Ho Ho knockoff) and they were really bad, like lead bricks. I called and they cheerfully refunded my money and said that unfortunately, gluten-free flour is a little more temperamental than regular flour so that can occasionally happen. We do like to buy grass fed meats from them but I think the one in Cedar Park has cheaper prices for the same products. read more

I'm not sure there's enough good to be said about People's. I guess it boils down to trust. Trust that you've got the right medicine. That the people behind the counter are extremely knowledgeable and are going to help you out. to make sure you're getting the care you need with your medications. And not just for humans, but People's also does meds for our furry friends and are willing to compound medications into liquid form with delightful (so my cat tells me) flavors like fish and chicken (he would be climbing into the fridge at medicine time, he considered it a treat). But, the best part of People's, while you're there, is their deli counter and their FABULOUS smoothies. I use to get some of their more usual ones until someone introduced me to the Purple Cow. O.M.Goodness. Get one today. They are so yummy you'll find yourself just stopping by to get one. Their deli foods are always fresh and delicious too. But get a Purple Cow today. I've been coming to this place for years. Yes, as some people have stated in their reviews, products on the shelf are more expensive that say Central Market. That's because they are a much smaller company, without the bulk buying power of H.E.B. behind them. The wellness stall, the pharmacists, the deli (and staff), smoothies, soups, coffee, I could keep going on about all the great things this place has instead of focusing on the extra dollar I might have to pay for the convenience of saving a trip to Whole Foods. read more

People's has really stepped up to the plate in delivering quality gluten free foods. I've never gotten a prescription here or interacted with that part of the store other than having them ring up my food, but I pledge allegiance to the flag of the deli and baked good section of this store. It had to be a pretty heavy blow to find out that Jenny's bread was what made so many of us sick. That bread was too good to be true, and we all realize it now. But People's went out and found replacement bread (that's almost-ish as good) for all my sandwich needs. But I can make a sandwich at home. Know what I can't do at home? Make a fake ho-ho cupcake, cake balls, cheesecake, and more. I guess I COULD, but I don't wanna. Yesterday evening I need to fill a prescription, and was having a hard time finding a pharmacy that was open late enough. A yelp search told me they were open until 9, so I popped in. I can't believe I am just now discovering them! They filled my scrips very fast - within 5 minutes - and the price was better than anywhere else I've gone in town. They're super friendly and helpful, and give you a really personalized experience. When they say "Please call us if you have any questions", you actually feel like they mean it. I'm switching my pharmacy to People's and never looking back! Also, they have tons of gluten free and vegan food items available, as well as a nice selection of hippie vitamins, herbs, supplements and essences. Major bonuses in my book! read more

I've been coming here for sometime now and the service and selection is on point. Great place to come if you're looking for homeopathic anything really. They have meds, vitamins, cedar relief drops exclusive to Peoples and even meat from a local farm and much more. There is also a cafe serving up healthy snacks and meals. I seriously can't believe I put off going here for so long. I knew they had gluten-free stuff. I knew they had vegan stuff. I grew up going to the People's in Westlake. I remember when they had a VHS movie rental section. Then eventually that disappeared and the deli was put in. I went over during my lunch hour in high school and got bagel sandwiches and those yummy wraps and some kind of kitchen sink brownie granola bar thingy that was to die for. I've never actually used the pharmacy per se, but I'm always amazed at the products they carry. Very unique and high quality items like natural cough drops, allergy oils, living food bars, fresh local juices and honey, etc. I even saw they now sell Zhi tea, which is one of my favs. I can always find something there I trust for whatever ails me. This is one of those special, neighborhood kind of places you don't see much anymore. Everyone is helpful, friendly, in a good mood, and knowledgeable. Go there and support them! read more

I've been buying breakfast tacos from this People's Pharmacy for years. I think I might be addicted to their Bat City Blend coffee...it's seriously good. I changed jobs a few years back and now this location is on my way to work. AWESOME. They always have fresh made breakfast tacos...my favorite is the South Austin taco on a fresh made spelt tortilla...fresh fruit and even fresh baked goodies for my sweet tooth cravings. The salads are amazing - piled high with fruits and veggies, and their wraps are great too...they also give you the option of made to order items. When I have a prescription to fill I have to be honest, I generally just drop it off at my HEB...but that's only when I'm ill which (thankfully) isn't often. I've definitely bought my share of supplements from them though! They have an amazing selection. When I was pregnant they were the only place in town I could find an iron supplement that wouldn't make me sick and yet had the right amount in it. Still my People's Rx of choice. I've discovered they have fantastic gluten-free pastries - the zucchini bread is delicious. The breakfast tacos are also awesome, and can be made with things like nopales and spinach. They've started carrying more of my supplements on site, so less need to order things to be transferred from the Lakeline store. There's always some little thing I haven't discovered before. And they take GoLocal cards! When one is buying expensive supplements, it really comes in handy. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable about the supplements they carry. I was just bragging about how wonderful this pharmacy is. They have really let me down. They called me early this morning, to confirm I was willing to pay for a compounded medicine my new kitten needs. I said yes, please makeup the formula and I will pick it up. I just called, at 8pm to make sure it was ready. It has not even been made yet! My kitten needed that medicine, and I have waited all day. I must say, I am very disappointed and will not be bragging on them anymore. Feeling very let down. read more

I've been coming to this location for a really long time, and I've just about had enough. I love the fact that they have a holistic approach to health care and I'm able to buy all the holistic items that I research. I can even order it. The problem is the uncomfortable feeling I get when I'm in this store. I can be alone or with someone and its the same thing. As soon as I/ we walk in and start browsing all eyes are on us.. If there's no one on the sales floor then the people @ the pharmacy are watching us. It's so sad as we spend quite a bit of money here, not to mention how many people I've referred to this store. The last straw was today my mother and I walked in I was going to pick up an order that was being held for me and she was picking up a supplement, as soon as we walked in not even a minute into looking on the shelf, this woman was all over us, giving us the what she'd like to call it "the best customer service ever". In fact I had my husband go there and pick something up for me and he noticed the same behavior, as I'm there I see other people walk in and don't get the same "attention". I'm going to try and find another place to go, I'd much rather spend my hard earned money in an establishment that doesn't profile people. read more

7:39 on a Monday. The place is dead. 4 people walk past me behind the pharmacy counter but none can be bothered to ask if I need help. Finally I will one guy to look at me and I give him the Jeannie face. He knows I mean business. He asks "what do you need". I tell him my name and that I need to pick up a prescription. He relays this to an angry looking girl who brings my prescription to the counter and slams it down. I wonder if she is mute but soon she rings it up and sputters "sign here" and "that's fifty dollars". I pay and say thank you. She has suddenly become mute again. I stalk out mad. Sadly, this isn't the first or the last time this will happen. I need this compounded prescription. Otherwise I would tell these snotty little twits to kiss my grits. read more

Love this place! I've never gotten prescriptions from here, but order food from the deli frequently. They are always pretty quick (usually about 5-10minutes). I've ordered sandwiches, tacos, soup and salads. All have been really good and a little pricey, but you can't get better ingredients anywhere else. Everything is very fresh and organic.
