I've been going to this location for decades. AS of late the customer service is slow, curt and unhelpful. I don't know how you let this happen, it's a neighborhood family store. Do better. Today two counter people were gabbing about this and that, ignoring me and after a while one finally made eye contact with me and asked if i needed to check out. I had been standing at the checkout counter for right around 5 minutes. Other times when i ask about specific products, instead of saying no, they show me a product that has ZERO to do with what i ask. This small pharmacy has been around for as long as I've been in Austin. Their pharmacists and staff are super knowledgeable and helpful. I especially like going in to People's if I am looking for supplants and have questions about what might work best. The amount of information they've been able to share is truly impressive. Whether you are just stopping but to grab a smoothie or quick bite or go in to pick up a prescription, they offer a cool, unique selection of healthy foods and snacks to look at. I've discovered some favorite new brands here when waiting for my lunch. This is a very different experience than going to a big chain of pharmacies. I stopped into People's Rx over the weekend because my nutritionist didn't have the supplement I needed in stock and she suggested I try this place. What a cute little spot. It's small but they have some great products. I was stoked to find GFY's gluten free everything bagels in their freezer so I definitely grabbed those. I went to peoples today to pick up a compounded medicine that they make for my cats thyroid disorder. I feel like I have long Covid so I asked the pharmacist if there was anything I could take. I am always pleasantly surprised on how helpful and knowledgeable they are here.in addition to prescription and OTC meds, there are snacks and items for lunch, beauty, products, and homeopathic cures. Let's talk points. People's Points. I discovered them this morning. It's a loyalty program that accrues dollar credits just for buying stuff from them that you already need. Now I've been through a few of these programs elsewhere, and they seldom seem to pay off before one of several things happens: 1) The store closes; 2) The program changes/ends/expires; 3) Points expire; 3) You never go back there again. That gimmick always ends in sad trombone. This one rolls differently. I went to order something to be delivered via curbside, and found much to my surprise that waiting for me was effectively a 16.67% discount on my current purchase. I mean, how cool is that? Once again, this is an item I could have had delivered to my doorstep for the same retail price by Amazon, but this is proof that buying local pays off. Amazon ain't got points. People's does. Store is fine but don't special order anything from them. They used to just charge you when the order comes in but now they text you it's there and if you don't respond within a few hours they take your hard earned points you've received with your rewards from past purchases. They proceed to then charge you which is expected. Upon questioning this new practice an employee stated it's something in exchange for the special order whatever this means? .,,, employee said was backed up by management. It seems that they make judgement calls and new protocols at will.. do yourself a favor and don't special order your supplements here as employees and management make decisions on your account without informing you. read more

I was really impressed at the conveniency of this simple finger collection and that it was offered at a local pharmacy rather than a lab. The staff at this store was super friendly and helpful. I have only been to a People Rx pharmacy one other time due to picking up a special supplement that was recommended to me. This time I came to People RX since I was getting a compound prescription from my physician. The process of filling my script was easy and the staff was on top of things. A staff member called me ahead of time to go over the price and explain it could take up to 48 hours for the fill due to it being a compound. No worries there and even better it was a shorter turn around time. When I was leaving I had noticed a sign in the parking lot indicating they had gluten free dairy free pumpkin pies. I almost turned around and headed back in but unfortunately, I was short on time. I can foresee myself in the future stopping in again to try some of their bake goods. read more

I don't live near Peoples Rx anymore since I moved out to the East side but I still drive all of the way over to pick up my prescriptions. Every interaction I have ever had with staff has been pleasant. The pharmacists are caring and thorough and private explaining new prescriptions and are patient to answer any interaction or side effect questions I have. This is also the source of some of my favorite comfort food in the city. Their sandwiches on homemade keto bread are delicious and the butter bone broth is just the absolute best. All of their take-out salads and snacks are delicious. They also carry some of my favorite brands, like Bulletproof and Fond Bone Broth, as well as CBD oil that I use for my back pain (way less intense than prescription meds and it does help). read more

People's Pharmacy has been an Austin prized-possession for a quarter century. Their five locations are convenient, customized and attentive. People's Rx is an alternative pharmacy that concentrates more on your health than they do on discount cosmetics and clearance candies. (I'm not knocking CVS and Walgreen's - I need both in my life!) Someone said to me once that Austin takes a business and customizes it to make it...well...Austin. Although I think this might be a bit cavalier, there is truth in what he said. Austinites (including myself) sometimes suffer from OPA syndrome (Overly Proud Austinite) and we unknowingly (or purposefully) forget to remove our rose-colored glasses. But that's not the point here, is it? The point is, People's Rx is a business that has been customized to fit Austin. And it fits like a glove. Although I'm always a bit disappointed by their selection at this S. Lamar locale (I might suggest a larger store), they take their job as a pharmacy seriously. I'd recommend People's Rx for their attention to detail and their dedication to giving you the best options when it comes to your health. Despite it's size, this S. Lamar store has a warm and inviting atmosphere. A deli with healthy made-to-order foods demands much of the building's space. Most of the store's product is natural/organic/healthy living, with a few items that can be found anywhere (ie: brand name toothpaste). They have a tiny book section and a few gifty items here and there. The pharmacy's website may actually rival its physical store. Keeping in tune with the pharmacy's mission to empower people when it comes to health care decisions, the website is packed....and I mean packed....with info. Recipes, drug information, events calendar, ingredient information (nice!), health tools, info on health conditions, herbs, supplements....this list may never cease. I'm confident that People's Rx could help you with any health condition. In fact, they probably carry something organic that can help you stay awake whilst reading never ending yelp reviews. Cynthia was just so helpful! I called and asked a hundred questions and she did her thing. I already loved this place but I just had an informative, intellectually interactive, pleasant experience and it was truly calming, I gotta tell ya. There is delicious, incredibly healthy, eco and soul conscious food. There are employees that actually know how drugs and supplements and our body's needs work in concert. I haven't used the pharmacy but I've heard good things. Every time I go in there are ten new things I want to try. Going to People's Pharmacy is like going to the grocery store when you're starving. I have been a loyal People's customer for years. Love the family and I am especially fond of the holistic selection and employees as well as the deli. Everyone for 12 years plus has always been delightful. Only recently have I started to have to use the actual pharmacy in earnest, because both my daughter and my husband have chronic illnesses. I can say without hesitation, the pharmacy department, specifically all of the pharmacist, are incompetent and unprofessional -- I would be shocked if any one of them ever received above a C in pharmacy school. They consistently believe that they know better than our doctors what medication is needed and when to dispense it. Which I could probably handle if they would bother telling me before all hell breaks loose in our household because we don't have timely access to the appropriate medications. Twice now they have said they are uncomfortable filling prescriptions as if they're in anyway capable of making that decision in a vacuum w out consulting a medical team or patient. The first time they did it with some very heavy pain medication my husband, who is dying of cancer, needed. Not only did they refuse to fill it they didn't bother to tell us that they were refusing to fill it. "no one here is comfortable filling these prescriptions" is what I was told days later when I called and was completely out of meds. Of course this was on a weekend when nothing could be done at all. When we and our doctors finally figured out what they were doing we had to call and explain that he has multiple doctors and an issue that is consistently getting worse therefore more and more pain meds are needed ...why they wouldn't have been able to figure this out I have no idea. And why oh why they wouldn't have picked up the phone and mentioned this when the prescription orders came in is another mystery. After the doctor and Explained all this they were nothing but apologetic. Never mind that my husband suffered unbearable pain for about four days. But wait it doesn't end there, they did it AGAIN just this week. Same story only this time they refused to refill my anxiety medication two days before the last pill was out (and therefore in the grace period ). Because once again, "no one there felt comfortable filling it". Reason being bc I kept filling it a few days early each month. Keep in mind this is a fairly new and a PRN medication so don't even get me started on how ridiculous that thought process was. Once again they also chose not to tell us that they weren't going to fill it when it was called in. I had to call and find out. So if you want a lot of judge-y morons definitely go to People's but if you want educated professionals go somewhere else. read more

So here is the sad story: my elderly dog started to have seizures about two weeks ago, and I brought her to the veterinarian on March 7, 2019. Our vet ordered a compound prescription (anti convulsant) immediately and made it urgent, because the dog was in distress. The same day People's Rx called me at 11:18 am and let me know that the medication would be ready in 48 hours. I let my veterinarian know and she called People's Rx again to let them know that this was an urgent case. During the night from March 8 to March 9 the seizures got so severe, that we were sure, Athena (our dog) would not survive. She did, but it was obvious her brain was not functioning anymore and we couldn't see a chance for recovery. We called the vet and Athena was put to sleep at around 11:30 am on Saturday, March 9th. The same day, at 4:29 pm, I called People's Rx and let them know to cancel the prescription because my dog had been put to sleep. They readily did, which kind of gave me the feeling that they hadn't even started working on it. This was about 53 hours after their first call, when they told me about the time frame of 48 hours. Granted, we don't know whether our dog's life could have been saved by giving her the medicine earlier, but it is clear that People's Rx didn't make it a priority to prepare a medication for an animal that was in severe distress. I know it's "just" an animal, but our family is heartbroken. Thanks for nothing, People's Rx. read more

I could really do without the snarky attitude. I entered the store this Sunday a little after 6pm. Right away, a self-important white coated twenty something came up to me and announced "Sorry. We are closed. We close at 6." (And yet whose fault is it that the open sign was still out and the doors were still unlocked...your hapless customer?) Why am I being treated like an unwelcome boil? I politely said I had a sign for the community area which she agreed to take and also mentioned I had some thyroid RX I had wanted to pick up. She just shrugged her shoulders. OH - People's Pharmacy how do I love thee? Let me count the ways! #1 - Super smart, helpful, outrageously customer service oriented REAL people. In over 7 years I haven't had one bad experience with the staff. Actually, my interactions have always been ***** experiences. Over the top! #2 - Every person I have recommended to go there has called me back to rave about them and thank me for turning them on to them. #3 - When my little boy got a UTI and the idiots at the pediatricians office didn't return my phone calls and gave him the wrong medicine (causing him to SCREAM in pain for hours)...People's knew what to give him homeopathically and what to do to keep him well - and lots of concern on top of that. #4 - When insurance wouldn't cover an expensive medicine at a regular drug store I called them (it was one of those last hope moments) for advice on what to do alternatively...they offered to get the medicine and let me pay what I could and then make payments.
