I went in to get window treatments as well as framing -- the lack of interest to framing led me to find another vendor. I was able to order roller shades, but the batteries were ordered inconsistently -- half rechargeable and the other replaceable AA batteries. When asked to change them all to the rechargeable batteries the cost was prohibitive so I asked from them to be all AA. Supposedly, he was mailing them to my client's home directly; they never came. When asked again, they never came. I have asked again, and now he wants to charge me to get what was originally ordered. For a company so disorganized, it will come at a cost in time and money to you. I would highly advise using another local company even if they may be more expensive (there are several others) than Hubbard's, but you will pay for it in the long run if you choose to use Hubbard's. It pains me to discourage using a Cambridge company when I wish local companies would thrive, but in good conscience I cannot encourage anyone to use this company.

But if you're worried that the transition means a drop in service or vibe--don't be. That concern couldn't be further from reality. What made Shades great before--the welcoming, no-pressure service, the feeling like you were getting advice from a friend who cared about your eyes and your wallet--that's all still here. That's largely thanks to the smart decision by the new owners to keep many of the original team onboard. The result? Same expert help, same thoughtful recommendations, same smooth experience. The selection is still top-tier, with everything from high-end frames to plenty of budget-friendly finds. I dropped in recently with a pair of prescription glasses (not even bought there) that needed some TLC. Without hesitation, the team jumped in like a Ferrari F1 pit crew--tightened, polished, and brought them back to life. When I put them back on, it was like they were made for me all over again. Should you stop in? Absolutely. Should you grab a new pair of shades? Better question: why stop at just one? Kudos to the new crew for keeping everything we loved, and making it even better.

This review is a contemporaneous synopsis of my encounters with South River Eye Care…read more My first peripheral encounter with South River Eye Care was when the owner walked into my store (I work in the marine trades) on a boating issue. As I recall from several years ago she was a good customer and I helped her. She gave me her card. My eyeglass prescription has been very stable for decades and I'm careful so glasses last me a LONG time. Recently my arms have gotten shorter *grin* and my ophthalmologist recommended progressive lenses. I figured Transitions would be a good idea as well. Today (a Saturday in April '19) I walked into South River Eye Care in Edgewater MD with my new prescription. My wife was busy and I was out on other errands so I was without adult supervision. *grin* I told the optician who stepped up to help me what I thought I knew and what I thought I wanted. She very patiently helped me with a number of frame options and equally patiently took pictures of me in each for my wife to look at. She wrote all the options down and the front desk staff opened a file for me. So we would not have to start over when I came back. I'm impressed. Without vision insurance the prices are a bit attention getting but I truly feel you get what you pay for here. I expect to be back late in the week to finalize my order. A few days later I stopped by with my choices firm. Very helpful, good fitting, good measurements (Pd), and outstanding treatment. Just nice people. Seven to ten days to my new glasses and a 60 day window to order a backup pair with a steep discount. Out on a business trip when I got the call that my glasses were ready. Today I stopped by to pick them up. Great service again. Recognized and greeted at the desk, well fit, excellent advice for adjusting to my first pair of progressive lenses. I'm wearing them now. *grin* My wife is happy about how I look and I am happy about how I see. We'll be back for her new glasses in a few weeks. I have not had better service and a better product for glasses than from South River Eye Care. Tell 'em Dave on Auspicious sent you.

We were selling an older house and needed to get in new appliances quickly. They helped in picking our the right units that could be delivered on our tight time schedule.
