They had a responsibility to make sure I knew the prices, and had many opportunities to tell me. In addition they used the temples from my old glasses for the new pair. I'd left them behind because the bridge was broken and I thought they needed them to help pick out the next pair b/c I wanted the same frame. No one told me this either. I used to like this shop.

As I recall from several years ago she was a good customer and I helped her. She gave me her card. My eyeglass prescription has been very stable for decades and I'm careful so glasses last me a LONG time. Recently my arms have gotten shorter *grin* and my ophthalmologist recommended progressive lenses. I figured Transitions would be a good idea as well. Today (a Saturday in April '19) I walked into South River Eye Care in Edgewater MD with my new prescription. My wife was busy and I was out on other errands so I was without adult supervision. *grin* I told the optician who stepped up to help me what I thought I knew and what I thought I wanted. She very patiently helped me with a number of frame options and equally patiently took pictures of me in each for my wife to look at. She wrote all the options down and the front desk staff opened a file for me. So we would not have to start over when I came back. I'm impressed. Without vision insurance the prices are a bit attention getting but I truly feel you get what you pay for here. I expect to be back late in the week to finalize my order. A few days later I stopped by with my choices firm. Very helpful, good fitting, good measurements (Pd), and outstanding treatment. Just nice people. Seven to ten days to my new glasses and a 60 day window to order a backup pair with a steep discount. Out on a business trip when I got the call that my glasses were ready. Today I stopped by to pick them up. Great service again. Recognized and greeted at the desk, well fit, excellent advice for adjusting to my first pair of progressive lenses. I'm wearing them now. *grin* My wife is happy about how I look and I am happy about how I see. We'll be back for her new glasses in a few weeks. I have not had better service and a better product for glasses than from South River Eye Care. Tell 'em Dave on Auspicious sent you.

Issue: They tell you in-store what your insurance will cover and the amount you will have to pay out of pocket. Then months later, they send you another bill saying you owe MORE money than what you already paid! There is no itemized bill either. Corrupt and shady business trying to screw people over. This is the perfect location to get your annual eye doctor appointment in. Pros: They are on time. They use no air puff devices. They have a WIDE selection of designer branded eye frames. They are located right on Main Street (you have to pay for parking -- both garage or street metered). There is so much to so around this location. They take my insurance and always allow me to use the extra 20% discount that my insurance covers but not all eye doctors take. They have eye contact classes for you to learn how to use before you purchase. Cons: It is HOT upstairs. Seriously, could have passed out on Monday--they need a unit! They have additional devices that you can add-on to your annual visit. Such as opts wide field retinal imaging, OCT retina scans, visual field testing, Marco TRS refracting and specialty contacts (if needed).

I made a mistake and came to my appointment 2 hours early and he happily made time to see me and didn't make me feel like I had intruded or rushed him. Even the staff were pretty nice - giving me honest advice about the frames and telling me that I might want to look somewhere else given my needs. I also left piled high with coupons and samples. I'm so happy I found this place. Extra bonus - check out the framed letter from the astronaut in the lobby - who it seems he also helped.

He was very encouraging during the exam, and I learned a lot about my eyes that I had never had explained before (what is an Astigmatism, why are "floaters" called that and why do they exist?).
