At first I was seen by a technician who did a Visual Field Test then waited only a few minutes while Dr. Maria Servensky reviewed my results. I've been going to Brilliant Eyecare for over 20 years. All the positives that Joann Brilliant brought to this business disappeared when she retired. My last visit there was to replace the progressive lenses on my glasses. Dr. Brilliant was booked solid because she was about to retire. The other optometrist (The wife of the husband-and-wife team that took over the business) did my eye exam. After about 2 weeks my glasses were ready, and I couldn't read street signs while driving. Dr. S. Insisted that my prescription was right and I had to just give my eyes time to adjust. After a week I still couldn't read street signs, I couldn't read the clock on the wall at work, etc. so she agreed to redo the exam, but supposedly got the same result. Because she didn't make an error (her claim), I was charged for a second exam. So I paid for two eye exams and still couldn't see with the lenses they made for me! Finally, after a few weeks, Dr. Brilliant redid my eye exam, didn't charge me, and made sure I had lenses that I could see with. However, that was way too much drama for what was once a very reliable and trustworthy business. Now, here's the kicker: when I got my lenses made, I insisted that I didn't want any coatings applied (on my previous set of lenses, the coatings peeled off after a few years). So now a few years later, I'm noticing that there are coatings on my lenses that are peeling off! No matter how strong the reputation is of Joann Brilliant and her father in Annapolis, do not give this business your patronage. I think that Joann should revoke the business's rights to her family name to avoid staining her lasting reputation in this community. read more

Doctors Maria and her husband ,Andrew, are both wonderful. the office staff not so much. Ordered two sets of lenses for a meta ray ban and for a regular frame on 01/07. There was an issue with my vision insurance. Have contacted the office multiple times to inquire about the lenses and to get more information about the insurance issue. Emails and leaving messages get no response. Talking to the office receptionist results on a call back promise. Still waiting on the call. I think I'll just stick with the eye exam from now on. read more

Office visit was great. Not happy about the 59$ cancel fee. Sometimes life happens, and as long as the patient calls to explain the problem, such as sickness or car problem the office should not charge. Also, the extra fee for using a credit card is an extra expense in these hard times. read more

My office experience was horrific. I visited the office to get new lenses for my Silhouette eyeglasses after an excellent eye exam there. I was told to make an appointment. While Brilliant is not exactly inconvenient, I have at least three other opticians within two miles of my house that also sell Silhouette eyewear. But I made the appointment, drove to Brilliant, only to be told I have to leave my glasses to get the lenses replaced. Now how am I to drive home? How do I go for days (weeks?) without glasses? Could they have told me this during my first visit? It is unfortunate the staff is not equal to the superb opticians. I will not be going back. read more

Some doctors/techs spin through those slides so quickly it's hard to decipher which lens is best. Dr Servinsky handles the vision test with explanation and at the perfect pace. The docs are great, you are in and out very quickly. They have a very large selection of glasses and contacts and everyone there is so happy and cheerful to help you choose your next set of eye ware. A great optometry experience! I'm primarily a huge fan because most of your records are available online and they are so easy to get a hold of if you have questions. Let me begin by saying, I absolutely loved meeting with Dr. Brilliant - she is amazing and really knows what she is talking about, unfortunately optometry is like any other service industry and should be treated as such. I am paying you fo a service and therefore, I should be treated with respect and courtesy. From the moment I contacted the office, I felt rushed and like my time and needs weren't very important - I felt as though I was just another patient. The physical address of the office is actually a bit tricky and as someone new to the area and who was referred to this optometrist - I didn't realize that there were two Forest Drives and when I called for instructions, they tried to explain how to get there but I spoke with two different individuals in one phone call which was super confusing. Then when I finally arrived at the location, there were about five people on staff walking around - they expression "too many cooks" definitely applies to this office. I didn't even know who Dr. Brilliant was until seven minutes into my appointment - three other people were treating me before I realized none of them were my doctor. Again, Dr. Brilliant was great - she was personable and helpful and had a great demeanor but an office is more than just one person and the rest of the staff made me uneasy and a little frantic. Let me give you another example, when I came back to pick up a sample (the prescription I was prescribed was $88 with insurance - that is crazy, not at all the doctor's fault but way too much for an eye drop). When I came back to the office, the staff - two behind the desk, one in front and the Doctor's assistant all came over to talk to me about the fact that I needed a referral to be seen again. My insurance does not ask me to get referrals for anything and when I mentioned that they all had an opinion. At no point did someone call my insurance to find out but instead I was bombarded with literally 4 people talking to me about what I needed to do - it was just too much and was just another example of "too many cooks". Oh and an aside, I was supposed to also get a contact lens fitting when I returned and when I asked about why the price was so high ($108) they said it was because of the type of contacts I wear, which I understand but when I spoke to my insurance, they said I was only going to be reimbursed for $50 because that is the average cost of the service - when I brought that up to the receptionist, she literally said "insurance companies are not able to dictate to us what we charge for our services, and the price is what it is" - again - not the best response to give someone who is trying to figure out their options. I just did not feel comfortable there and in a service industry - your patient's comfort, health, and safety should be your only priorities not the difference in cost from the insurance company and what you are charging. I felt as though their bottom line was the most important thing and that I was just another patient. Needless to say, I am taking the advice of the doctor, sticking with my prescription and then going elsewhere for a follow up. read more

I have been with the Brilliants since old Parole. From my first pair of glasses to my contacts. Then post laser surgery and now in my late age, Brilliant is there. Dr J runs her place just like her Mom and Dad. I remember both. Goodness Mrs. B ran a tight ship. I have visited the new guy Dr. Mike or something and great too. He is a contacts/glasses wearer and talks to you like you are his equal...he gets it! The office is beautiful, modern, and clean. There is great selection of eyeglasses in many styles and they usually have my contacts and supplies in stock. The office staff is friendly--Jackie is the best : ) It is sometimes busy but they can always fit you in for an appointment and they answer their voicemail promptly if you call outside of business hours. read more
