Experts in exotic houseplants and outdoor trees, shrubs, and landscape design were available. Ron Johnson received a degree in landscape architecture from M.S.U. in 1964. He worked for the Parks & Recreation Dept. in Lansing, Michigan for a few years prior to taking over the Johnson's Gardens business. The integrity with which Johnson's Gardens did business through several decades will not be matched anywhere else! The selection/inventory looked to be dwindling somewhat, but just about everything they had still looked good and healthy. Noticed they sold produce to the left of the building on the outside this time too. One star knocked off on this visit because, after much looking around and not seeing anything we decided to ask for help. We were told they supposedly didn't carry many fruit trees, "if any at all", by the older, tall blonde woman at the register on staff during the early afternoon hours. It didn't seem like a very definitive response. The second star is knocked off because she really did not seem interested in interacting or helping us after her 'informative' tree comment. She walked away thereafter, presumably get away from us and our pesky questions. Still a nice place, with nice stuff, but lacking on customer service on this visit.

If I still owned a house and could plant lots of flower beds or pots, I would enjoyed coming here for the prices and selection. They had wagons but when it is a busy time, you might have to wait for one. But I now live in an apartment that limits me to 2 pots or planters on the patio and 3 smaller pots by front door. I did find some plants but they didn't have a selection of pots to plant in. So if you have a house, this is a good choice, but if you live in an apartment and only need a few plants or pots, stay with full service greenhouses. I am still glad I came out.

We actually stopped because there was a fruit/veggie stall in front of it and when we pulled into the parking lot, we saw all of the beautiful plants, succulents, planters, etc! We were greeted by a very helpful young man who told us all the succulents were half off: SOLD! (according to my receipt, that young man was Shelton) We ended up with 3 of them.. including a beautiful hanging birdcage filled with succulents, all total $41! (pictures uploaded below) Inside they had all kinds of kits and pieces so that you could build your own but theirs were too cute to pass up!
