I decided to come here because I really liked the decor, very retro and unique looking. (It's just as fun looking on the inside!) The food is mediocre though.... My husband got a burger and I got a philly cheese steak, both with fries. I don't think they put any salt on the fries (I was watching as they fried them and plated them), so we ended up having to do that ourselves. (I consider that a con since the fries had cooled some what by the time we got them, making it so the salt just slid off them onto the bottom of the plate...) Both the burger and sandwich were really nothing to right home about; my husband said the burger was bland. The shakes were pretty good though. I thought it was really interesting having an open kitchen area (we got a booth seat so we could see all the cooking done right in front of us). However, it also gave me an opportunity to see the waitress go behind the chef and fix his mistakes. You could tell they didn't like each other. Half way through our meal, the waitress took her break, leaving the chef to deal with the cooking AND the customers. I don't begrudge the waitress for her break, but I did feel sorry for the chef (who already had problems with just cooking). Over all, I liked the architectural atmosphere of the placce but I don't know if I'll be back. What I got there, at least for a lunch or dinner meal, I could get better some place else for the same price. It also felt really awkward watching the staff interact with each other. read more

Finally, someone who knows how to make a classic patty melt. The two guys working were a hoot - I think our waiter's name was Sam. My kind of joint; old school, small, Blue Plate Specials... no complaints. If you're looking for another sanitized cookie cutter chain with "not touched by human hands" meals, don't come here. We were here on 10/07/2015 (for the second time). The first time was a few years prior and the food was ok. This time though it was quite good and I was very pleased. We came back because it is one of the very few 24 hour locations that we found. My wife liked the burger she ordered. I ordered the steak and was surprised that it was really good. In fact it was one of the better ones that I had on our trip. Yes, it came out of a vacuum sealed bag and placed on the grill but it was well seasoned and not dry. I normally love this diner I have never had an issue with the staff. It's not the cleanest place but I've eaten food in my horses stall before so it didn't bug me too much. My fiancé and I went out to eat after my birthday celebration. We got there at 0300 (3am) service was good as usual. Their milkshake maker was down which from reading some of the other reviews I'm guessing they just didn't want to make any. I got the green chili burger and it was great. Two hours later tho it didn't taste good coming up. I got horridly sick. The sickness lasted for 2 hrs straight. I know it wasn't the alcohol I consumed because my fiancé got ill as well. What we are thinking is the green chili was probably left out for hours. We won't be going back to this place. read more

I really didn't want to give this place a bad review. It appears everyone likes this place. Cool place (in a sketchy location...next to a dump of a motel) and great wait staff. Food was just mediocre. Maybe we just caught them at a bad time. I ordered a simple BLT with fries. When I received the sandwich, it was open faced exposing my pathetic few pieces of bacon (two, possibly three pieces). Like another review stated, the presentation seemed weird. You don't go to places like this for presentation though. It was just a pathetic BLT, that might have the worst I've had in quite some time. The person I was with, their plate was just as sad. I will Not eat there when the Head Cook (Restaurant Manager I guess since there are any servers or dishwashers - the cooks do it all so I guess that makes him.manager) or the female evening cook Heather are working. The grill and everything is right there in front of the customers so we see everything which included The ASS CRACK OF THE MANAGER - Sometimes just a little But Most of the Time Quite a bit of it!!!! Also, I have seen (ON MANY OCCASIONS) I both the manager and the female cook ( Heather - brown hair, heavy set, and I believe only works in the evenings) have there hands in/on places/things that would require being washed before doing anything Especially cooking anyone's food But they don't bother to wash them. This was disgusting. I cannot believe they haven't been shut down by the health department. SO Dirty, no sanitary practices. The place and grill looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. I wouldn't have even given them a star if It would let me. I went in for a shake to go. I was never welcomed when i came in. The waitress acted if i was imposing. There were two other people behind the counter neither said anything to me. When I paid there was no thank you or anything. I sort of got a racist vibe. It's the only explanation I can think of. I will never go there again. And the shake wasn't even that good. My brother owns a restaurant and I know how Yelp can hurt your reputation. This is the first one I've ever done. One person being rude I can understand but none of them were friendly at all so I can clearly see a pattern or group behavior. A friend and I went for lunch. We were immediately made to feel welcome. I had the hot roast beef sandwich and my friend had the sunrise skillet. Both were very enjoyable. Our waitress checked back to make sure everything was to our liking. I would go back and would recommend to others. Next time I think I will start with one of their shakes! I was picking up an order for my customer (door dashing) Tonight and I walk in and the lady at the register with blonde hair and seriously awfully mean look on her face didn't greet me nor talked to me and working for door dash we are REQUIRED to get confirmation of the name of the order and the correct food check. All she said was the total in a rude voice and when I kept repeating the name trying to confirm everything with her she wouldn't answer me until finally giving me a smartass over dramatic nod.. This is where you check in for the oak tree Inn. We broke down towed to the freightliner repair. They provided us with a list of hotels that will accept com check. They have a shuttle, the driver was of the shuttle was very nice. Got us to the oak tree inn. Our room was clean very comfortable two people was a little under $80.00. The only complaint I have is the water pressure was less than what you get from a water hose and the pillows needed replacing. Six pillows in the room to three to make it the height to support the neck then it was as hard as folded sheets stacked, room was quiet . The dinner is a throw back to the 50"s or 60's very nice actually. Over well nice and pleasant. Stay. Thank you read more

I would NOT recommend this place to anyone! We arrived at 10pm for dinner which is not a busy dinner time, we didn't get our food till 11:10pm, we didn't get our WATER till 11:15pm, we had to ask for everything including a napkin, a fork, our check... the food wasn't cooked fully(chicken), the service was very very slow, the place was beyond dirty that I was scared to even eat. The only positive thing was that the servers were nice people. However, we will never go back. We had to go to Taco Bell, next door after to feed my boyfriend due to the chicken being un-cooked & us not wanting to wait another hour for another meal. read more

A guy I work with kept telling me I needed to try Penny's Diner, and I did today. I'm glad I did too. I had the big breakfast they have, with Bacon, Sausage, Eggs, Hash browns and Pancakes. I could barely finish it all. The food all had amazing flavor and the portions were amazing. The pancakes took up the entire plate. My wife had the Chicken Fried Steak, and it was amazing also, and about the size of a small hubcap. The workers there were joking around and having fun as they worked, which made it even better. People who enjoy their jobs provide much better service. This is one of the best places to eat in Cheyenne, and I recommend it to everyone. read more

Just had lunch here, if i could give it 0 I would. Place is not what we expected. Food, if you can call that food, was mediocre. Seems like they just reheated the hamburger patty and tossed it on a bun. The lettuce and tomatoes and onions were probably a week old, stale. Turkey sandwich was probably one of the worst sandwiches I have ever had. Food presentation is non existant. You are better of going to Dennys. We believe the root of the problem with the food is whoever is the cook, they should put more effort into preparing a meal. Waitress was nice, but that's all. Stay away from this place!!! read more

I think this place is adorable. As you step through the metal doors and see an open kitchen line with a bar and comfy booths, the you instantly feel transported back 60 years. The waitstaff was typical for a diner. Not overly friendly, but prompt and they do a fantastic job. They're not there to make friends but rather to make customers happy with efficient service. Take it for what it's worth! The menu is also very typical for a diner... And there's nothing wrong with that! If you're looking for gourmet, this isn't the place. If you want food that tastes like homemade cooking, this is the place! I ordered the skillet breakfast and a side of green chili to smother it with. YUM. This a cheap little diner put in for the railroaders that stay in the neighboring hotel. The food is cheap all the way around, low prices, low quality. That being said, I would eat here over Denny's or IHOP any day. They have any variation of Coke that you could want, including chocolate. I was in Cheyenne for work and someone recommended that I try Penny's diner. I had been working 12+ hour days and was absolutely exhausted by the time dinner rolled around. Penny's was near my hotel so I stopped there to eat. It took me much longer than usual to comprehend what was on the menu. The waitress, Brooke, was oh so helpful - she told me what their best dishes were and she was just so nice. I ordered the club sandwich based off the recommendation of the guy at work and I wasn't disappointed. The sandwich was good. The fries needed salt, but that was easily remedied. My water glass was refilled promptly, which I very much appreciated. The diner overall is very small and looks very retro. It's open 24 hours a day. I was told they make a good breakfast too but didn't get the chance to try it on my short trip. Bottom line, if you're staying on this end of town and you don't like the usual boring chain restaurants, go to Penny's. It's different, it's fun, and the people are nice! AND they refill your water! Great dive diner in Cheyenne. Waitstaff was very nice and very local. This is what we were looking for during our visit. It is connected to a Trucker Hotel, which we did not stay at :), but added to the atmosphere. The cooks have jail house tatts and know how to put an omellette together. My husband and I tried this place the other night. Cool atmosphere and the food was good. My husband ordered some breakfast dish and I ordered the grilled tuna fish sandwich. The only complaint I have is that the cook put too much tuna on my sandwich. It made it difficult to eat because it was so messy.
