Had to get my Polish food fix while I waited, ordered the perogies, beets, potato pancakes and German potato salad. Skip the potato salad, a little over cooked and sauce was syrupy. Overall, impressed though.

Penn Brewery is a solid airport eats choice. It's across from Local Craft so you can at least consider two different options very quickly, but there aren't a whole lot of options to begin with. I've had the Italian soup, pierogis, and poutine. The pierogis needed a little salt, but other than that they were good. I did really like the Italian soup, but they only do a soup of the day so hard to say how frequently that's an option. The poutine was fine and I really liked the gravy although I wish they added more. It is seat yourself, but overall the staff does a good job of noticing when someone comes in and checking in. I would probably stop again if I was at the airport and they definitely get brownie points for having booths. I'd rank them in the top 3 most comfortable chairs at the Pittsburgh airport.

I was disappointed that my flight got delayed after a stop from Atlanta to Denver, (3 hours) but was happy to discover this place at the airport! I had the Brewhouse burger with bier cheese and fries! Amazing! great beer I had the Penn Pilsner and Oktoberfest. This place made my day and I hope to have another layover here to come back. Friendly Service with great Ambiance! Can't recommend this place enough

Literally pretzel with the cheese is absolutely phenomenal! Warm pretzel and very flavorful cheese. Really loved the menu selection and great choices of add ons. Got a bratwurst and my preference is not a pretzel bun but the the regular bun "baguette" is hard and kind of just like stale bread so not too great. Paying for the addition of sauerkraut is not a big deal but the portion amount of it is almost insignificant. Pierogis lacked flavor but not bad. I'm glad they weren't greasy.

Stopped here on layover. Quiet and food was decent. Service was a bit off. My server came by with several other tables dishes and had to let him know they were not mine. Luckily I did eventually get what I ordered. Sausage duo was good, but was not exactly what I expected. The spicy sausage had no heat, but was nice and smoky. The spaetzle was fried in butter and breadcrumbs. Not what I expected but good. The German potato salad was fried hash browns with a sauce. Seemed a stretch for German potato salad. Not bad for an airport, but not something I would seek out again.

A bit of the North Side without the crime! They have their normal selection of beers (I love their Penn Weizen) and a small menu of snacks and meals. If you're in the A section of the Pittsburgh airport, you may be able to see your gate so you can sit here and see when the plane arrives and begins deplaning, so you can keep drinking until you're just ready to board. The deep fried Pretzels are pretty dang good. They come with some kind of cheese sauce (different but good) and one of the most unique mustards I've ever had. Good stuff! It's no Primanti's as far as a Pittsburgh staple must have, but it's a great homage to the Eastern European roots that settled in Western PA. Next time, I would get the Pierogies!

We had Penn Brewery while flying from Pittsburgh International to Dallas. The seating area was pretty decent and we were able to watch the Euros that were going on at the time. Kya was our server and she was really good. We did not have any alcohol as I was traveling with my 14 year old. Penn Brewery does have pretty good beer. We had pretzels which were good, but I wasn't a fan of the cheese or mustard that came with it. We had a side of fries as well. Not bad for under $20 total.

A little over an hour to kill, so we stopped in for a drink. Cold beer, 3 TV's, strong cocktails & super friendly staff. The service was quick... It's everything you'd want at an airport bar.

We selected this location for a snack while waiting for our flight. The location was convenient to our flight's gate. The location is fairly small. There's a bar with seats and a few tables. I had a glass of Penn Wizen. We shared a poutine order. We selected the Canadian style poutines that had cheese curds and gravy. We liked the poutines. Kimberly was our server and took good care of us. I would likely return if I am in the airport.

Excellent select of brews (I'm an IPA guy); Pepsi is their soft drink brand ... ugh. Service here is fantastic. Food is better than average for an airport. Wonderful place to chill before a flight.

Brew House Burger* German Hot Potato Salad**

My boyfriend and I stopped here for lunch while waiting for our flight. We were happy to see that there was an actual sit down restaurant open during these crazy times. Our waiter was attentive and friendly enough. My only complaint is we had a hard time finding him when it was time to pay the bill and go so that we didn't miss our flight. We both ordered the brew house burger. I went for the German hot potato salad as a side and it was really good! I've never tried a hot salad so it peaked my interest on the menu. I'm glad I went for it. My boyfriend added a pierogi on his burger and opted for the fresh cut fries. He did mention he regretted the pierogi and should have went with an egg. He did say that the fries were good. We both thought that the burgers were a little on the dry side, but all in all were pretty happy with our experience. It's hard to find good airport food after all!

My girl friends and I came after four years of me wanting to come here. I love Gravel Grinder and live close to an OTB so heard of Dancing Gnome from that. Finally made our way there and well, make sure you do not bring young kids. My friend had an 18 month old with us and as she was BUYING a beer from them, the guy who worked there asked if she "could keep the screaming to a minimum." An eighteen month old!!! And Mother's Day is tomorrow, nice. He said that they had to draw a line somewhere and he wasn't kidding. The 18 month old was not running around screaming crying all day. We were outside having the kids play and when my friend was buying a beer he got a bit fussy and was told to keep it to a minimum. Needless to say, we will NOT be coming back. If you have small children, I would not suggest this place. Super disappointing. I've always hyped their beer and place up and now I can't support it. We ended up going to Grist House and it was a WAY better vibe and WAY busier...I wonder why. I should have known when their sign said no dogs allowed.

The building itself was once the St. John the Baptist Church; in true Pittsburgh fashion, people restored and converted the original building to make it a functional restaurant. A note about the interior dining room: you can either sit on their dining side (which has larger tables) or the bar side (which has some booths but is primarily high tables and chairs). The menu has a good assortment of appetizers, soups and salads, sandwiches, and other entrées. They used to have both traditional pierogies as well as a "flavor of the week" option, although these days they seem to only serve the traditional ones. The menu is refreshed somewhat regularly, so over the years I've sampled salads, fish dishes, pasta dishes, and sandwiches. It's hard to have a "go to" order when it might disappear, but you'll likely find something good when you visit, given the range of options. (Currently, I'm a BIG fan of the Street Corn Arancini. Definitely give these a try while you can!) While the food won't necessarily knock your socks off, let's remember: this is the Church BREW Works. The beer and cocktail menus are definitely where it's at. According to Untappd their current beer menu includes an assortment of Belgian, Porter, Lager, Pilsner, IPA, and Stout style beers. I'm more of a cocktail person myself so I always sample something new when I dine here (again: the menu is refreshed regularly), and I have yet to be disappointed! Like I said at the start, this is one of those places that we try at least once. I'll still come here with friends for sure, but this is admittedly not an establishment that I'll go out of my way to visit. It's fine - not amazing, not bad, but fine.

So have you seen that meme out on the InterT00bZ that's like "Hey let's go to that new beer place…read morethey have $27 warm hazy IPAs in the middle of a parking lot?" Yeah, that's the vibe I was getting at Velum. There was a lot to like and a lot to not like about this place, so I'll start with the bad and end on a positive note. First off, it's in an old brewery and it looks like a warehouse. I'm not sure if they still brew their own beers but it straight up looks like an old warehouse. I've seen abandoned warehouses that look less like a warehouse than Velum. Maybe some people like that vibe but I felt like the cops were going to bust in and shut the party down like a teen coming-of-age movie. The taproom is all the way in the back, and so are the bathrooms, so if you break the magic circle, prepare to get your steps in. There's no kitchen. They DO partner with a food truck but they're getting their own review. I paid $10 for an average cocktail and $8 for a 12 oz cider that frankly wasn't that great. Either better drinks or bigger drinks, please. And everything is community seating. I don't hate the idea but I didn't care for the vibe so when I found a smaller table my friend and I grabbed it and boarded it. With that being said, there was a lot to like too. First off, we were there for a pinball night, and they have a great selection of pinball tables there, both classic and modern. I really would have liked information on joining a pinball league, but that wasn't offered anywhere that I could find. Plus on that particular night it was $10 for all-you-can-play, so we definitely got our money's worth there. The staff that I did interact with were super nice. That goes a long way and saved this from being a worse review. And the place is dog friendly, which is always a huge plus for me. All in all, I had a decent night. But the question as always is if I'll go back. Unfortunately, probably not of my own accord. If there's another pinball event, I'll definitely go, but it's not going into my rotation of cool spots. Not every place is meant for me, and that's fine.
