I don't usually think to leave reviews for airport spots, but Penn Brewery absolutely deserves one. We had about 90 minutes to spare before our flight and wanted to sit down for a solid meal and this place delivered. First off, it's conveniently located in the terminal, and we were able to get a table right away on a Sunday night. The place had a chill vibe with a mix of bar seating and tables, and it wasn't overcrowded, which made the experience even better. Our server was friendly and quick to get us settled. I ordered one of their house lagers, super smooth and just what I was hoping for. I'm definitely more of a lager guy, and this one hit the spot. To start, we shared the pretzel sticks appetizer, four perfectly soft pretzels served with a warm cheese dip and a nice, sharp mustard. Great portion for two and a perfect kickoff to the meal. For my main, I went with the Brewhouse Burger, cooked medium rare (I know, a bold move for airport food, but trust me it was cooked perfectly). Juicy, flavorful, and cooked just how I like it. They offer a bunch of add-ons too, so you can really make it your own. And the best part? It didn't come with the usual inflated airport price tag I think it was just under $20 for a quality burger, and the beers were around $7-$8, which felt totally reasonable for the setting. All around, it was a great experience solid food, great beer, fast and friendly service, and they didn't rush us at all. Saw huge sausages, just all around great looking food so ordered a burger and was not dissappointed. All prices were very fair considering an airport restaurant/bar. I'm glad they put this in the airport years ago because it's Pittsburgh oldest craft brewery and they have some of my favorite seasonal beers. They have great beer and they did a great job with this place considering it's inside the airport. I was looking forward to enjoying a Pumpkin Roll Ale, but they were sold out on the day I was here, unfortunately. So I had a Penn IPA which is my go to at this brewery. Penn Brewery is a solid airport eats choice. It's across from Local Craft so you can at least consider two different options very quickly, but there aren't a whole lot of options to begin with. I've had the Italian soup, pierogis, and poutine. The pierogis needed a little salt, but other than that they were good. I did really like the Italian soup, but they only do a soup of the day so hard to say how frequently that's an option. The poutine was fine and I really liked the gravy although I wish they added more. It is seat yourself, but overall the staff does a good job of noticing when someone comes in and checking in. I would probably stop again if I was at the airport and they definitely get brownie points for having booths. I'd rank them in the top 3 most comfortable chairs at the Pittsburgh airport. read more

Literally pretzel with the cheese is absolutely phenomenal! Warm pretzel and very flavorful cheese. Really loved the menu selection and great choices of add ons. Got a bratwurst and my preference is not a pretzel bun but the the regular bun "baguette" is hard and kind of just like stale bread so not too great. Paying for the addition of sauerkraut is not a big deal but the portion amount of it is almost insignificant. Pierogis lacked flavor but not bad. I'm glad they weren't greasy. read more

Stopped here on layover. Quiet and food was decent. Service was a bit off. My server came by with several other tables dishes and had to let him know they were not mine. Luckily I did eventually get what I ordered. Sausage duo was good, but was not exactly what I expected. The spicy sausage had no heat, but was nice and smoky. A bit of the North Side without the crime! They have their normal selection of beers (I love their Penn Weizen) and a small menu of snacks and meals. If you're in the A section of the Pittsburgh airport, you may be able to see your gate so you can sit here and see when the plane arrives and begins deplaning, so you can keep drinking until you're just ready to board. The deep fried Pretzels are pretty dang good. They come with some kind of cheese sauce (different but good) and one of the most unique mustards I've ever had. Good stuff! It's no Primanti's as far as a Pittsburgh staple must have, but it's a great homage to the Eastern European roots that settled in Western PA. Next time, I would get the Pierogies! read more

This is actually a really good airport restaurant. It's in A terminal and has a bar and reasonable seating. There's a definite brewery vibe with dark wood. Service was excellent. I seated myself and a server came very quickly. She was friendly and had good knowledge of the menu. I ordered the apricot Penn cider on tap, the stuffed pepper soup of the day and pierogies. I had actually tried the Penn Brewery Weizen a few days ago and thought it was quite good but I wanted to try something else. Cider wasn't my favorite, very subtle apricot. The soup was very tasty, pretty much exactly like eating the Eastern European stuffed peppers of my youth, growing up in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The pierogies also brought back childhood memories of my friend's Russian/Georgian mother cooking except she never served them with sour cream. Overall I highly recommend this place if you want a drink and a decent meal. read more

We had Penn Brewery while flying from Pittsburgh International to Dallas. The seating area was pretty decent and we were able to watch the Euros that were going on at the time. Kya was our server and she was really good. We did not have any alcohol as I was traveling with my 14 year old. Penn Brewery does have pretty good beer. We had pretzels which were good, but I wasn't a fan of the cheese or mustard that came with it. We had a side of fries as well. Not bad for under $20 total. read more

Stopped by here while I was waiting by my gate for my flight. Place wasn't too busy in the morning but when I passed by it in the evening the night prior it was packed. I sit at the bar and order a beer. They had a small but decent selection of options. The IPA wasn't too bad. For food, I ordered the breakfast burrito. It came with eggs, sausage, cheese, and potatoes in a wrap. I thoroughly enjoyed the burrito. Good flavors with the food and was filling. It was a bit on the greasy side but nothing too crazy. When you are at the airport waiting for your flight, you don't have many dining options. My boyfriend and I stopped here for lunch while waiting for our flight. We were happy to see that there was an actual sit down restaurant open during these crazy times. Our waiter was attentive and friendly enough. My only complaint is we had a hard time finding him when it was time to pay the bill and go so that we didn't miss our flight. We both ordered the brew house burger. I went for the German hot potato salad as a side and it was really good! I've never tried a hot salad so it peaked my interest on the menu. I'm glad I went for it. My boyfriend added a pierogi on his burger and opted for the fresh cut fries. He did mention he regretted the pierogi and should have went with an egg. He did say that the fries were good. We both thought that the burgers were a little on the dry side, but all in all were pretty happy with our experience. I'm torn between a 3 and a 4 star here, so let's call this review a 3.5. I came here while waiting for my flight. I really enjoy Penn Brewery beers but had never tried their food here until now. I ended up ordering the reuben sandwich with a side of Brussels sprouts. The Brussels sprouts were very nicely cooked and had some sweet savory combination of flavors. The sandwich was just ok. I'm picky with my reuben sandwiches and I thought the corned beef on this was a little dry. Overall a good stop in the airport. I like that it's a local place and that the menu has so many German options as I don't see too many places like that anymore. Would definitely recommend trying it especially if you're not from Pittsburgh. read more

If you're going to be stuck in the Pgh airport, be stuck here. The main brewery on the North Side has been a Pittsburgh stalwart for years. Since I lived here a decade ago, they've expanded their repertoire beyond classic German pilsner to a full range of delicious. Get a sampler, sip, and enjoy. Among their food, try out the pretzel sticks, burgers, Pittsburgh salad (with fries, of course) and the pierogies when they have them. The pretzels in particular are served with a very unusual dip that includes notes of pepper, mustard, cheese, and (I think) hard boiled eggs. Perfect companion to a good beer. I didn't get to try it, but they also have a great looking beer and cheese sampler pairing. It's rib-sticking Midwest food at its finest. And very affordable, you'll have trouble breaking $25pp unless you pig out completely. (Ok, yes, that's expensive for Pittsburgh, affordable elsewhere, I know.) Try the main one when you can, but for airport food, this is a winner. read more

Best sit down experience I've had at the airport to date. Ample seating is a major highlight and even though the place was packed the service was still relatively attentive. The prices also aren't too outrageous. The cocktails are decent but not great value (ie high cost, low alcohol) but I think it's a good fit for a casual drink with friends. I tried the pretzel sticks with the dip trio and they were VERY good. The mustard wasn't my speed, nor was the oddly named cheese so that was a bummer but I have not a single complaint about the pretzels which were warm, salty, soft and clearly freshly made. We were looking for a sit-down place for lunch before our flight, preferably something with vegetarian options more involved than "salad." This place fit the bill. You just sit at a table with a menu on it. There are high-chair tables and a bar for seating, too. We ordered the pierogi appetizer, cheese and potatoes, which came with fried onions on top, naturally. This was a nice start, a good firm dough with well-seasoned filling. We ended up ordering the same main dish, and we should probably have split it, because it was so big: a Portabella Mushroom Philly Cheese sandwich with French fries. The mushroom was chopped to bite-sized pieces, and the other veggies were properly done. The beer cheese used was nicely complimentary. The bun, though, was huge. Two people of average appetites could easily split this. Speaking of appetites, I was leaning towards a hamburger, but all the burgers listed were a half-pound in size. I did not want to eat that much before a multi-hour flight. It would have been nice to see a size choice here. As my companion was looking for more vegetables, splitting a burger wasn't an option. The French fries were nicely crisped, skin-on fries. They were not over-seasoned, and were a joy to eat. Our waitress kept our drinks filled, and didn't let empty plates linger.
