I have been going to this location for decades. Lately their service has declined and I've become very unhappy with their optical department. I will still go to Dr. Flickner for exams, but I will order my glasses elsewhere. The last two glasses have been late late from the lab. I just called them about my new pair. I am waiting for for one month now. I called in the morning and they said they would call me back but they never called me back. I called in the afternoon and they put me on hold for 12 minutes until I called back and demanded to speak to an optician. I was told that my glasses had a "lens breakage"" and that they had to be started over and there would be further delay. They don't say the lab broke the lens. They say there "was a lens breakage," with passive voice like it just happened, not their fault. I do not like this lab. They're not cheap either. read more

So I called today and check out some information for a relative who has medical, when I called and explained them the situation, I was told they wouldn't. Be able to be seen for a few months due to their insurance, mistake me if I'm wrong, but if someone who needs glasses, and they call an eye doctor, wouldn't it make sense for the staff to be more helpful? Front customer service is terrible. You are not greeted warmly, everyone looks overwhelmed and not happy to see you when you walk in. My sister and I have been coming to this eye doctor and she would also rate it five stars like me. The doctors are trusting. The optometrists are knowledgeable and don't make you feel rushed, and they answer your questions with patience and care. If you plan to reach out to this organization, chances are, you MIGHT not have the same experience, as I now have put them on BLAST... But No shame here. It's still my opinion and experience, and still... NO CALL BACK... As I have read how very few reviews on Yelp, something I should have done beforehand (shame on me for failing to do that) then maybe I wouldn't have been super upset of myself, but still, the fact remains, there is a pattern here that I see, "I'LL CALL YOU BACK WITHIN A FEW" means.. "maybe I might call u back" attitude... You can change future experiences, but you certainly cannot change what had already occurred. You can apologize for the first time, but for the second time, it means there were likely others that experience the same frustration. Or maybe my insurance was so bad, they didn't want me to go back. But... I had to pay for my own contact fitting anyway, so insurance would not cover already. On another note, the likelihood of them wanting to correct this problem is now not likely because of this FB post. Which now just means (1) I have to find another doctor. Yes, they may have fine doctors in this office, otherwise, they would not be in business as long as they claim to be; however, if you have staff members that don't follow through enough, you may as well CLOSE UP SHOT, because they (the staff) are the first line of contact to the public, and bad FIRST CHANCES, could mean LOST OPPORTUNITY. Here is my story.... Originally, had an appointment for eye, and spoke with the doctor regarding typing contacts at a later date. I had expressed to the physician I might want to try contacts, if glasses were not working for me, and she indicated that if indeed it didn't, I could make an appointment to get contact fitting done. I had called and left a message about.7-8 days after receiving my glasses, to make an inquiry to that, and the person that answered the phone said there was no notes in my record, and that she would need to check with the doctor on that. I waited 7 days, and got no return call. So I decided to call, 7 days after that call. I had expressed my frustration on no call from their office, and spoke with Danielle/Daniella (not sure of her name, but she said the was the office manager, and happened to be in Monterey). She was very helpful and had scheduled an appointment for me in the Salinas office. She also mentioned that there were no notes for follow up with the physician, but mentioned that it was indicated in the physician notes. She graciously schedule me for a contact lens fitting the following Friday. As she had the lenses in Monterey she could bring with her to Salinas. (Fine, everything good and done and scheduled) Long story short, I had to have emergency surgery (non-related my eye) the same date I had my contact fitting, and they beat me to reconfirming my appointment the day prior, which then I advised that I was going into surgery and would need to reschedule. That person I spoke noted the call, and I asked if we could schedule a date. She had informed me that she would need to call me back. I asked when I was going to receive a call to discuss, and she indicated that same day. So I waited. Well, 5pm that day came and gone, and still NO CALLBACK. The next day was surgery, and could not tend to anything other than the situation at hand. And to make note, there was still no callback, even the next day. I then, after a week, sent an e-mail inquiry to try and get an appointment, 1 week later, no call or response. Well, now it's 3 weeks later (today's date) still no callback... Again, I am unclear why it's been so difficult for any type of return call. Is it me? I thought I had expressed my needs and request clearly, but the office staff is (1) either overwhelmed with work (2) fail to really call back clients (3) just don't care. In my case, I think it's all 3. Upon reading the reviews, I think they are habitually non-responsive to any time of inquiry. I say feeling perplexed because they give the appearance of being professional, but their responsiveness and pro-active business approach speaks differently read more

I have been going to Peninsula Eye Care in Salinas for over 20 years. Three weeks ago I called to get my glasses prescription emailed to me. I called an hour later and was told I need to understand that they are short-staff and was never given a timeline of when I would received said email. Four days later I called to inquire about said email and was told it was be emailed to me shortly, and I also requested verification of my husbands eye appointment coming up, which I was given. Fast forward three-four weeks. I have never received an email with my prescription. My husbands appointment was mysteriously cancelled and he had to reschedule. Will not give prescription for glasses or contacts without paying an arm and a leg for them (rediculous!) and they act like they don't want to hand it over unless you buy a frame or contacts from them which are expensive (see above lol). Car salesman tactics! They won't even give you the prescription for contacts until you try thier lenses "Because they want to make sure the prescription is right?" Isnt that why the Dr has a PhD??? Dr. Flickner himself was Nice, he introduced himself and he asked if I had any questions and the visit went pretty smooth. After I went to pick out my glasses and I was informed that I would be charged a $60 contact lens fee I have been wearing contacts for 4 years now and I've only ever paid the first time and after that I've never had to pay anything again other than the actual contact but never a fitting. I was asked if I was open to trying other lenses and I said yes but they did not inform me that trying another lens would be an additional cost, if that was the case I would've declined and stuck with my original lens as I was quite happy with that. After this I picked out my glasses, this was in September we are now about to head into December and my glasses are still not here. I called to see what was going on and I was told that the glasses were on back order. If this was the case I should have been informed that the specific glasses were on back order and I could have selected something else versus waiting two months for glasses. This is ridiculous and I will not be returning to this place again. I wasn't even informed at any point that there would be a delay, someone in the front said they would check what was going on and a week went by and I didn't hear anything so I had to contact them again and that's when I got the information that they won't be ready till December. read more

The doctors there are a gem I've been seen by most of them and always professional with my eye care needs. I already have a prescription from my Doctor. I visited this place hoping that I could browse their selection of frames since I could find any that I like at my Doctors office. I walked in and headed to the frames selection only to be stopped by an employee who asked me to checkin at the front counter. So I walked over to the counter and the receptionist started asking me all kinds of questions; name, DOB, address, etc. I said "wait, I'm only here to browse your selection of frames and I'm not sure if I'll be making a purchase" ... it turns out this place wanted all my personal info before allowing me to view their selection of frames. I have some advice for people that want to only browse their selection of frames ... DON'T. You shouldn't be required to give all your personal info just to do some window shopping. I also have some advice for the office manager ... stop requesting personal info of people that only want to browse the frame selection. If you are interested in getting people's personal contact info for marketing purposes, then do that after the person has had a chance to see what you have to offer. If you were asking for my personal info because your thought that I might steal something, then that would be just plain racist ... just because I'm not white?? I couldn't tell exactly what the purpose is for personal info, but I do know that I just don't had out my personal info to whoever asks for it. I was booked an appointment around 9 months later as a "new patient" since I hadn't been there in over 3 years and there was a new patient waiting list. When booked I asked for a reminder call which they confirmed that they would make a reminder call to me at least a day before or so. I did not receive a reminder call and according to them I missed the max appointments, which I was not aware of. Now, I am no longer welcome at their office ever again. I am now band from this office which I use to come to as a child because of the office not making a reminder call. I regret going to this place for an eye exam. Shame on me . I brought in my old 1.25 over the counter reading glasses knowing my eye sight was changing, knowing I was due for an eye exam. The old over the counter glasses were still good but scratched up. Showed these to reception desk, showed the eye Dr performing the exam, and showed the person I was directed to who started filling out eyeglass order form. Glasses were ordered for me which cost $1385.00 when I got them they were unwearable I was dizzy, did not see clearly. I got a new pair ordered of reading glasses that are hard to distinguish from my old ones as far as eyesight focus and clarity for reading. So for only $1385 I got my new reading glasses. I was told to take it up with the insurance company if I wanted any money back. My out of pocket for my new reading glasses was $450 read more

Most affordable prices yet! $25 for a co-pay and if you want a contact exam, that's an additional $25 (other places would charge you $45). Takes some time for the visit to be over, but it's not a drag, you won't know it takes you so long unless you're keeping track. If you're covered by Spectera, this is the place to visit. Once I stepped in the door I was politely greeted by the manager who asked if I had ever been here in which I replied no. When I complained to the front desk about not being told about the extra charges I was told " Did you fill out the paper work when you arrived? It's on that paper work" I really wouldn't know if it is or not as I did not get a copy of that paper work and it was about an hour ago that I last saw it. However, I can honestly say with sincerity they both do their job with caring love and treat patients like a family member. They are courteous and diligent along with all the staff. It is currently 3.5 weeks after my appointment and I do not yet have my glasses. I think this is ridiculous! The optician I was working with was named Jasper. I spoke with him 3 weeks after my appointment and he let me know my frames were not sent to the lab. He said he would overnight them and they would be ready Friday or Monday. I called Friday, and he was snippy with me, saying that he had quoted me Monday. At no point did anyone ever call me, I had to keep calling them to follow up. $400+ for glasses and I still don't have them! read more

I'm uping their rating on customer service. It seems they heard I was displeased with their service and to their credit they called and asked about the situation and what they might be able to do to satisfy me. They couldn't give me the refund (due to the insurance issue) but they did provide me with a free pair of "readers" in the proper strength that I can use at work for the computer and a discount on feature glasses. I appreicate the fact they went out of their way to contact me and try to repair the stiutation. That earns them points in my book. The doctors at this place seem fine, BUT the eye wear dispenser was the worst waste of time and energy I've had in years. When ordering computer glasses they stated "if you're not happy, we'll take care of it." After two attempts and deciding the computer glasses just wasn't going to work, I tried to get a refund. I only have a minor reading vision issue - the doctor said "go buy your reading glasses at the drug store - so I asked for a refund on the computer glasses. The refusal was unwavering. I even asked if I could just have a credit. This is not good customer service to me. read more

I really like the doctors here and have had great experience with them. The front office staff and their coordination with opticians is so bad I'm leaving the great doctors. Every year there is some issue with booking, charging us for services we declined at check in, contacting us for picking up prescriptions - it's something different each year. Will not be coming back here! After several referrals from friends of how good they were, I think NOT! First off, we have dual Insurance and normally I can get 2 pairs and pay maximum $40 - $50 out of pocket at my normal Optician which was Les Moro in Salinas since he is no longer in Salinas I did not know the new Opticians who took over, so I decided to see this offices big fuss, I took both my daughters for annual eye exam, with 2 good Insurances I payed $217 for 2 pairs of glasses ( Ridiculous! ) my other daughter got only 1 pair since they are only for school or reading and we payed $37 for hers. The part I DO NOT get is why in the heck do they only carry name brands for kids, we had to choose from Ray Bans, Coach, Oakleys and 2 other name brands, for kids.... my daughters are 9 and 5 ( one lost her glasses and of course its our fault, not blaming office but I am more upset that I had to pay out of pocket for glasses when I have 2 Insurances both through VSP. Now, I have to spend more money to get her another pair (through another place ). We looked at the bill and office exam and glasses they billed out for close to $4,000 each kid. Nothing different was done from what we normally get. Nobody sat us and told us what our Insurance covers or what it wouldn't cover.... at Dr. Les Moro's they do. This office is way over hyped and not to mention only 2 people from the staff were nice, seems like the girl at front desk is snotty not friendly. Doctor was okay but not nothing Special.
