I've been seeing Dr. Hisle for 3 years now. She is thorough and very nice! I'm so happy I decided to give her office a try when I couldn't get into Vantage in a timely fashion. The office is very easily accessible from Salinas and actually takes less time to get to than the office I went to in the city limits. I noticed a well organized office with not much patient interaction...It almost seemed robotic. Following procedures...not much patience interaction until the Nice friendly Dr. came in. She went over the photo ($39) and did the eyes prescription. She seemed professional and Nice enough. Photos were pretty. Then I was turned over to what I will call the closer. No more smiles. After the pricing for bifocals was getting too high for my budget. I settled for a distance pair of glasses. For awhile, I was going to Vantage Eye Center in Salinas because I liked Dr. Jane Medcalf. That's a very nice place to go if you like medical services rendered on a corporate business level. However, if you want exceptional and professional service where the doctor and staff remember you and treat you as a name not a number, then head over to Prunedale! Friendly, intelligent folks who care about YOU! Dr. Willa and her staff are FANTASTIC!!! As other Yelpers have said, she explains what's happening with your eyes in detail. Dr. Willa also explains the fixes available and the benefits and limitations for each fix. This is very important to me as I'm struggling between using monocular vision contacts or regular contacts and reading glasses. I get frustrated, and junk one approach for another every six months. Through all of this, they have been so kind and understanding. They remind me of what's driven me nuts in the past, and let me make my decision. I recently had an appointment at Prunedale Vision Center to get my eyes checked. I live in Monterey and Prunedale seems like a long way to go but it ONLY takes about 20 minutes to get there!!! The Staff was very friendly and I was seen at my appointment time, which is rare is some offices. They took a picture of my eyeballs and the doctor said I may have high blood pressure due to a blood vessel in my eye (I was not expecting that kind of information). The reason for my appointment was to get some new shades that were stylish and not to dark. They listened to me and selected two pairs of glasses for me to choose from. Both were perfect. I do not recommend going here. I went for many years and then the complete staff changed. That is alright but the new manager is a piece of work. She should not be working with people. My prescription was wrong, I had never complained in the 10 years I went there yet I was asked to sign a waver for a new prescription. Thus because I demanded a refund the first time it was wrong. I did not sign I went to Walmart to fill the prescription and it was even worse. I couldn't see, The new glasses made me nauseous and made the headaches I had for months worse. I'm talking headaches for months every day. So I went to Coscto for a recheck. The Dr. said there was no way my prescription changed that much, it was way off. Yes, not my prescription at all. When I got my new glasses I could see again! I confronted Dr. Hisle and told her I felt she should pay for my check up as well as my new prescription as it was their fault for giving me the wrong prescription twice. My insurance was already used with her. She of course said no, that it was me, my eyes were changing rapidly. Well, about 6 months later and I can still see! I have yet to decide on small claims. Its only two hundred dollars and 50 50 chance of winning. But I feel the new manager put my prescription in the computer wrong on purpose and Dr. Hisle stuck up for her. I had gone off a bit on this new manager and do not suppose she liked it to much. You do not play with someones vision and that is exactly what this office did. So no, go somewhere else. Dr. Hisle is very professional. She took her time when examining my eyes. My previous written prescription did not match the numbers she got. So she took the time to reexamine and make sure the prescription was right. Dr. Hisle sat down and showed me the numbers and there was a significant difference from my prescription of 8 months ago.The Optician helped to pick my frames and lenses. She was very thorough giving me pricing details for my frame and lense options. So I knew how much it would cost up front. The Optician even adjusted my current glasses. I had a very through exam and enjoyed Dr. Hisle and her professional kind treatment. Then came the Office manager, who wanted 153.00 after insurance before I could even get trial contacts. I have never had this kind of co-pay before, and after hearing her rudely explain to me, we had a 3 way call with VSP insurance. When told that the usual fee for contact fitting was 40-60.00, not the price they were charging, she loudly exclaimed that VSP does NOT set their fees, and put us on hold, again. I wondered if it was me, but VSP was even more stunned by the treatment than I was. They are filing a complaint. I do not know if my prescription is correct, as I am finding another way through VSP to get my contacts. Not only do they overcharge, the Manager, Mary I believe, should not be working with customers, ever. I did go in to complain directly to the Doctor so she was aware of this. I see this is not the first complaint of this Manager. Billing and customer service need alot of work. read more

Doctor Hisle, I am writing you this email to express my negative experience; I have had so far with your office and staff. My interactions with you were empowering and educational. I learned some new things about my eyes that no one has taught me before. After that, it went downhill. I will outline my negative experiences. 1. I was given the wrong prescription in the wrong pair of eyeglasses, which cost me an additional two hundred dollars to get it done correctly. I wanted one pair of eyes glasses for work (distance) and a second pair eyeglasses that contain the progressive prescription for home. 2. Your staff called me and advised me that I did not pay my bill. I called your staff back and corrected them. They informed me they made a mistake. 3. Your staff called me and advised me that my second pair of eyes glasses were ready for pick up. A short time later, I was called again and informed that a mistake had been made in the lab and that my second pair of eyeglasses were not ready for pick up. 4. I then was called and notified that my second pair of eyes glasses were ready for pick-up. I went to your office and found that my second pair of eyes glasses were damaged. The paint on the front was taken off, exposing the metal frame. I also noticed that the back of the frame was also damaged. Your staff employee "Kim" advised me that she saw a scratch on the frame when I dropped it off. She also told me that because I used my frame it was at my own risk. I will be honest with you "Kim" is lying because my frames were not damage. Doctor Hisle, who in their right mind would use a pair of eyeglasses that were damaged so bad that a person would be embarrassed to wear in public? (Please take a look at them) I was also never told that it was at my own risk. I left the pair of eyes glasses at your office and told "Kim" that I was too disappointed to take them. The only reason I went to your business was due to the positive comments on Yelp. I will not pay for the second pair of eyeglasses because they are too damaged to wear in public and too embarrassing. I spoke with my primary insurance who instructed me to file a complaint with them and with the Better Business Bureau. You are welcome to keep my deposit.
