I had a very poor experience at Stanton Optical. The restroom alone says a lot about how this place is managed. The trash was overflowing with paper towels, the sink and fixtures were dirty, and there was visible rust and staining on the walls and around the plumbing. There were also bugs on the walls, which is completely unacceptable for a business open to the public. This level of cleanliness reflects poorly on the overall professionalism of the location. If basic sanitation isn't being maintained, it makes it hard to trust the quality of care or service being provided. I would not recommend this location. read more

The staff was polite and nice. The process of tele-health was questionable. I had an okay exam, and received glasses that will work. My husband had a sub-par exam that resulted in glasses that were unusable. He told both the person administering the exam and the front desk, that the findings of the exam didn't make sense, but was disregarded. We opted for a refund. We had to "call when there was a manager available." We were told we would get a refund in 3-5 days. We received no refund of our co-pay, and the insurance company received no refund of what they were charged. I wish I read the reviews before buying from here. I didn't get an exam there but brought in a valid prescription from an exam I had gotten elsewhere. I walked in was not greeted by the 3 employees who were just relaxing at the front desk loudly speaking (not anything work related) music was loud as well and could still hear their convo. I looked around and had to go up to 1 of the 3 employees to see what their special entailed. I ended up buying 2 pairs of prescription glasses. Came out to nearly $400 for both. Personally I think that was a ridiculous price for frames that weren't designer or name brand. The girl said it would be cheaper to do it without my insurance but didn't bother to give me both prices so I can compare. I thought it was odd they didn't fit u for the pair on the spot nor measure to make sure the lenses lined up correctly especially with my stigmatism. Eveeywhere ive ever gone to before has done that practice. It was a lengthy process just to place my order. I received email and text saying glasses were ready for pick a few days past 2 weeks. Again it was a lengthy process since they adjust the fitting then and the employee did a few laps to front and back of the store trying to locate my glasses. I seen they had a sign w/ a promo stating discount of sunglasses when u pick up ur prescription glasses. I took advantage of this offer. They said a text and email will be sent out when it's ready in 2 weeks. I got the text and went on my lunch break to pick them up. I was very excited to be leaving with my new sunglasses. I get there and of course have to ask someone for help since I guess they don't ask u as u walk in. Again the go back and forth In the store looking for my pair. A red flag to me was the polarized lens don't come already inserted. The employees insert the lens *again never have experienced the employees inserting the lens rather than the lab. I waited about 15 mins while they tried to insert the lenses. Another person took over since the previous girl had no luck with them. After spending time on my lunch picking up these glasses that should have been a quick process come to find out while they were trying to insert the lens they ended up chipping the lens. I was annoyed that I wasted part of my lunch break to be told they would need to reorder the lens and come back another time. No discount no sort of compensation or anything for their mistake. I didn't make a fuss but mentioned I waited longer than 2 weeks for my previous pairs and if they would take bust as long for this pair to arrive. The girl ensured me that they would only be a week since they just need to reorder the lens and not the frames. Accidents happen so as annoyed I was I understood. I got a text on Wed that the glasses came in. I contemplated going on my lunch hour again but ultimately decided to go on Friday instead. I called before hand this time to see if they can have the lens already inserted and ready to go since i didn't have a lot of time to wait on them. Good thing I called before hand cuz the guy that was helping me put me on hold about 5 times cuz he couldn't find them. Finally he gets back on the line and says "I don't see that we have them in. Are u sure they're ready?" I said i got an email and text on Wednesday that they were ready like I got the previous 2 times and were actually ready. He mentioned oh that happens sometimes by default. Again I'm glad I called ahead instead of wasting my time and gas AGAIN. He said that they were still with the lab and should be another week and the reason for the lengthy wait is cuz apparently the lens i chose were an upgraded lens so they would be chip resistant. Clearly they werent chip resistant as she chipped them just to insert them which leads me to believe they will easily pop out on their own. I again didn't make a huge fuss but again was frustrated that this was their doing and I'm paying for it. I said i was ensured that it wouldn't be a long wait and said at this point I just want a refund it was ridiculous. I said i understiod it was out of his hands as it was "still at the lab" and him not being management there wasnt much he could help me with any longer.he said I could talk to my manager and let her know with an Immediate change of tone. I asked dor the managers name and number so I can speak with her at a later date. He gave me her name and number and I thanked him for his time. Before I could say goodbye he hung up the phone. LIE* CHEAT*STEAL*FALSE ADVERTISING This store and company have zero concept of service or time. My dad is a military veteran that suffers from paranoia. He wanted to purchase his glasses outside of the VA where he receives them a no cost and I get them mailed to me directly. Apparently Stanton does not offer exams for persons of a certain age. When you walk in, there's no direction: do I just stand there and wait? Do I take a number? Is there a sign up sheet? FINALLY someone acknowledged us. We took his VALID prescription to this store and we're instructed to pick out frames. So...if the reason for our visit is that we're visually impaired...maybe you should have better signage for pricing. My dad opted for their 2 pair LOW COST special. The young man that waited on us obtained my dads info with exception of my cell phone and email. I confirmed 2xs since I have a SOCAL area code. We were told it would take 2 weeks...I'm guessing that if you don't buy top tier...you get pushed to the back of the line. 3 weeks later, no phone call or email. The local store phone number routes to a call center where they CONFIRMED my phone and email. I was told that the glasses were in transit to the store and I would get a call in 3 days. I called 1 week later and I was told that the glasses were picked up My dad does not drive and I don't take Ambien so I know I didn't pick them up.they told me that they would look into it and call me back in 3 days a week later...no call and the website states that they were picked up. Due to my schedule I decided to show up to the store. I thought I walked into a nightclub. The music was so loud I couldn't hear myself think and the lady started talking to me from across the room. I motioned that I could not hear and made her walk to us (my dad uses a cane) She told me they were picked up...I said NOPE. then she remembered and found them and told me that they left a message and had invalid email. I said not possible as it's my cell phone and I confirmed my into twice with the man that took our order and at least 3 times with their call center. She then tells me my phone number with 1 digit variance. SERIOUSLY??? Must be part of their training to tell you 1 digit off as an excused as to why they didn't call. Well one was ready and the other pair was damaged. She had the audacity to use her best CONDESCENDING tone to blame us that it was the lenses type we chose is why they were damaged. It would take 3 days to get replaced... WELL....a week later, no call or email...so I again have to drive there Mind you we live 20 miles away. Again the music was so loud at 9 am And they finally had his glasses. I have repeatedly requested a district manager or corporate executive give me a call after each incident (phone and in person) ****To date I have not received any communication.**** LIES about timelines CHEATED me out of my time and fuel to get my product STOLE my brain cells... as I had to dumb down my vocabulary to be able to communicate with all the personnel that I had to deal with. Once I received my prescription I had to immediately return them due to not even being able to see out of the glasses. It's been over two months and they still HAVE NOT PROCESSED my refund! I've been contacting their customer services almost daily and they keep giving me the run around telling me that the refund has been processed when it every time I call they tell me "oh it was just processed yesterday" (mind you I'm calling weekly for the last two months) they also REFUSE to give me a refund on the eye exam. Even though they keep lying to me about when my refund was processed and giving me a run around along with giving me a prescription that I CANNOT see out of. I wouldn't ever waste a single penny with this company. They are HORRIBLE! I just want me $500 back! I shouldn't have to hug a corporation this much for a freaking refund! The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is because they were friendly. Took my daughter here for an eye exam only to find out one hour later that there's no doctor on site and everything is done through a zoom call. My daughter's eyes needed to be dilated, but since there's no doctor on site, they told me I had to be referred to go somewhere else and it would take over a month to be seen. When I was getting ready to pay with my insurance, they told me since the doctor couldn't prescribe the prescription it was considered an exam without insurance. I refused to pay the $45 fee, and only paid the co-pay $20. My father decorated Vietnam veteran and 100 percent service connected with double insurance was turned away. I go n to inquire about an exam and the front admin clerk tells me I no longer have vision insurance. I called my insurance and Not true fully covered. So then my insurance referred me to lens crafters. Monterey. Much better service and my exam was completed by a human doctor not a computer. To start with the commercial suggests that you can have an examination and glasses within a day for $79. This is only valid if your prescriptions is simple. I actually purchased a pair of bifocal glasses for three times the price in August and received them several weeks later. I immediately told the assistant that I couldn't see out of them, his response was that I was to wear them for a week before they returned them. I did that, and then had to wait until September to try on the replacement. Once again the prescription was incorrect and had to be sent back. I was notified in October that my glasses were in but I still was unable to read with them and again the glasses were sent back. The return policy doesn't allow for refunds just exchanges. It's now Nov 21 and still no glasses. I have had to pay another optometrist for a new prescriptions (Staton's prescription is slightly incomplete because of an astigmatism) and glasses that I have already received and am using all because Staton hasn't delivered my glasses. read more

I wouldn't recommend this place. Someone mentioned this place to me and said you can get 2 pairs of glasses for $69 and that's including the exam. I saw the same advertisement in a commercial. Falls advertisement! I ended up paying over $500 for the exam, two pairs of glasses and one month worth of contacts. I was expecting to pay a lot less than that. Then, I've been calling for weeks and couldn't get through. It turned out they already had my glasses and contacts ready and I never got a call. Lastly, I only got one pair. For some reason they don't know what happened to the second pair! The person that I spoke to said he will file a report to his manager and have manager contact me within 72 hours and and it's been two weeks and I still haven't heard from them. Oh, and I requested for my prescription on my contacts and the lady that I spoke to wouldn't give it to me. She said it will include it with contacts that I purchased. But my prescription wasn't included when my glasses and contacts were picked up. Hopefully once I leave this review that someone will get back to me about my second pair that I never received. I was in need a pair of glasses and informed the sales associate that I needed to have everything covered by Medi-Cal and that I was hearing impaired. I stated that I had just relocated to the area and was strapped for cash. I should have been suspicious when the sales associate continued to try to up-sell me several times. When I showed for my appointment no one was at the desk to receive me but instead was "busy" selling frames to a couple. No one else was on the floor. I am hearing impaired and let that be known to the staff but was left alone with a tela-med doctor there was no one around to get tissue to clear my tearing (and blurry) eyes let alone help me to understand the doctor's instructions. At the end I was told to go pick some frames with no help or explanation of the price scheduling and had to figure that out on my own. when done with that fiasco I charged over $150 and only had $30 on me (that was supposed to be used to get a new driver's license) so I paid that as a "co-pay". I came back the next day having decided that I was completely dissatisfied with the service and explained the 3 key points of my dissatisfaction and asked for a refund. I was refused the refund and had explained to me that I signed a contract (provided on a tablet) which I did not receive a copy of. I did take the time to read the contract and it seemed pretty much boiler plate and took the explanation from the sales associate to mean that all of it was covered. I did my due diligence as a consumer but was fed misinformation, not fully informed on the questions I asked and continuously up-sold for things I did not ask for and did not want. I have a background in sales and worked a lens lab as an advanced optician (Advanced ABO Certified). I know what good service is supposed to look like and I saw nothing like that here. I don't know about other shops in this chain but this one seems to be more focused on sales than satisfactory customer service. Their lack of understanding hurt me financially far more than the loss of $30. I now have lost out on prospective jobs due to not having my CDL. Guess they needed the money more than me! I strongly recommend AGAINST going to Stanton Optical in Salinas. First they advertise that you can purchase 2 pairs of glasses for less than $100, mine cost over $600. (I could have gone elsewhere and purchased the glasses for much less.) Next they get the glasses in, but never let me know the glasses were ready. The optometrist was remote. Brought frames to refill. Buy one get one deal for 69.00 ended up being 400.00 because I wanted anti glare coating and light weight lenses. Still put lenses in backwards RT/left and blamed it on my vision. I asked if I could fail an eye test? Then they realized the lab put the lenses in wrong sides. Did not clean my lenses, did not sanitize or fit my frames to my face. I miss old fashioned Customerservice and attention to detail. I would gladly pay for that. read more

My family and I have been patients of this Stanton Optical location ever since they opened. From our very first appointments, we liked their professional and friendly atmosphere (not to mention their wide variety of frames). This is why we continued going there whether they were "in-network" with our insurance or not. When covid happened, we had to "skip" our 2019 exams. Still, my family was experiencing vision changes (myself the most), so we made appts to be seen last week. This was when I found out that, at least for this benefit year, Stantom was no longer in our insurance network. Because we've always been happy with their services, I truly didn't want to go elsewhere. Still, like so many others, my family has been impacted financially due to the pandemic. So, I made the choice to take care of my family first and would just wait a bit to get my new prescription filled. When the manager heard my predicament, she explained that my vision had dramatically changed, and I REALLY needed to get my new prescription...if anything, from a safety standpoint (I'm only seeing clearly out of one eye). I told her I understood, but I just couldn't financially afford two new prescriptions with the very small percentage my insurance pays for out-of-network providers. At that point she explained she completely understood as the pandemic has affected everyone on some level, but she was more concerned about the big changes in my vision that really necessitated the new prescription asap. At that point, she did something that still overwhelms me--without hesitation, she offered me to get my new glasses with the frames I had wanted to get before I found out Stanton is out-of-network this year at a bit of a cost break that I could financially afford because she understood my predicament; however, she was more concerned with making sure I could see vs "making a sale". As she said, "We all have to help each other, especially during this time." I was, literally, on the verge of tears at her empathy for my situation. I'm stating it now, I will never go to another company/location when it comes to my family's vision needs, regardless of our insurance carrier. This location is, hands down, THE BEST and the staff is amazing! First time experience ***WATCH OUT!*** I took my older prescription sunglasses into the Salinas location. They're business model uses video teleconferencing to complete the initial "free" eye exam which actually costs $45. If you go and spend more money by purchasing a set of frames or in my case a newer set of prescription lenses, they apply the $45 and charge you the difference (kinda reminds me of a bait and switch). After confirming my contact information, I was told my new lenses would be ready in an hour. This was at 10:48am. I waited the rest of a day and a couple hours into the following day for a callback which never occurred. I called them, entered my phone number and they're automated system said my number was not recognized. After finally speaking with a live person who again verified they had the correct number on file, said my glasses were ready for pickup. When I arrived to pickup my glasses, I was given my frames with new prescription lenses in them, however they DID NOT! give me back my older lenses. During the order process I did not sign anything or give them permission to dispose of my older lenses. What if the frames I had given them were Ray Bans, Prada, or some other expensive brand? Whether I would ever use them again or not, it's not up to Stanton Optical to arbitrarily decide to dispose of my previous lenses. After I expressed my frustration at their actions the employee who handed me my glasses walked to the back to inquire about the location of my old lenses. After several minutes she walked out and started rummaging through a nearby trash can. She ultimately pulled out a matching set of lenses and rather than coming over to see if I recognized them let alone whether they fit my frames, she grabbed a bottle of glass cleaner and proceeded to clean the lenses as if I was going to immediately be using them. She then walked over to me and placed the lenses in a glass case, again without checking whether they fit my frames, which they didn't. After requesting to speak with the manager who was helping another customer I waited patiently. After finishing with his customer he walked to the back to speak with the employee who was assisting me as to not get blindsided. After several more minutes he walked over and I explained the entire ordeal. He just sat there listening then made a comment that absolutely blew my mind. "Did you request that we save your lenses?" I have had to wear glasses for many years and often have purchased premium name brand frames from the samples provided at my optometrists office. Those lenses are definitely not prescription, but I have NEVER! Had to ask for those lenses to be saved. They are part of the extra value you have just paid for the frames. Initially, I was really questioning whether this manager even knew what the word "customer service" even meant. He attempted to minimize my older lenses value, and tell me what a great price I got on the new lenses. He made reference to the $99 "deal" I paid which is the same price everyone pays for their entry level lenses only package. When I asked for some sort of reimbursement for the disposal of my older lenses he was initially totally oblivious stating, " I see no where I can offer you some sort of reimbursement". What was absolutely infuriating was the fact that he finally agreed that it should be the establishments responsibility to ask the customer what they want done with their property. I mean a simple question, check box, or waiver would solve all these problems. Finally, after stating my position several times and threatening to do exactly what I'm doing here now, the manager decided that he owed me another set of prescription lenses to replace the ones that were arbitrarily disposed of without my approval. If after reading this review you choose to become a customer of Stanton Optical, I highly advise you to take note of how they elevate you as a customer and protect what is yours. read more

I would give it ZERO stars!!!!! Bad customer service. They don't know what they are doing. I had glasses made, then redone. They are STILL way off!!! They refused to give me a refund when the brochure clearly states they would refund excluding eye exam. I plan on pursuing this to the fullest extent of the law. read more

Very awkward when you walk in. As I was sitting waiting over an hour for my appointment I had at 11:15. The doctor comes out and says I'm taking my lunch at 12:30 while there's about six people still sitting waiting to see him. The girls look very young and unexperienced.
