After a lot of research, my husband and I chose the Sagamore Pendry for a staycation/babymoon. Overall, we had a wonderful stay but there were definitely pros and cons that I think would be helpful to share.
LOCATION:
The location, right on the water and walking distance to tons of restaurants and shops, is perfect. Some of the places we walked to (and loved) in and around Fells Point were: Aveley Coffee Roasters (Fells Point), Ekiben (Fells Point), Thames Street Oyster House (literally right across the street from the hotel), Isabella's pizza (Little Italy), Ovenbird Bakery (Little Italy), and Cafe Dear Leon (Canton). I have separate reviews for all of these places and highly recommend.
There is also a 7-Eleven down the street and a Whole Foods a few blocks away in the next neighborhood over (Harbor East). On our first day there, we walked over to Whole Foods to load up on water for our stay.
PARKING:
We pulled up at the valet station and talked to the valet about our parking options. Valet is a steep $48/day, so we asked about self parking and were told there was a safe parking garage close by at the intersection of Caroline St and Dock St, less than a 10 min walk away. We opted to park there and ended up paying $34 total to park from noon on Sat - noon on Mon. Def the way to go, esp since the valet let us unload our luggage at the hotel before re-parking. He was really helpful, wish I caught his name!
ROOM:
We booked the Superior Harbor King Room, with a view of the water looking towards Ann Street. We loved lounging in the room and people watching. The hotel invested in some super effective blackout shades, which really came in handy and allowed us to sleep in.
There weren't many pictures of the room on the website, so we weren't sure what to expect. I'll try to include as much detail here as I can to help others. You walk in to a little entry area with a mirror and a table, then into the main room with a couch, coffee table, and the bed. It was a little smaller than I thought based on the photos, but definitely enough space for us. The bed was comfortable - not too soft, on the firmer side but super comfortable and just what I expect from hotel room beds.
The biggest surprise was the shower, which was not of the quality I'd expect in a luxury hotel like the Sagamore. The shower products were all very nice, but the shower head seemed really cheap. I was really disappointed, as one of my favorite things to do when staying in a hotel is to take a luxurious shower or bath (no bathtub FYI), lounge in a robe, and pamper myself. Instead, I got in and out of that shower as quickly as I could. Contributing to the ick factor, I noticed a clump of hair in the corner of the shower stall when I first walked in, which must have been from a previous guest. Overall, the bathroom situation was really disappointing and didn't match the level of quality throughout the rest of the room and hotel.
SERVICE:
All of the hotel employees we interacted with in the hotel were friendly and helpful! They greeted us by name when we arrived and even brought the cutest welcome gift of milk and cookies (I think for our babymoon).
We were surprised that housekeeping did not come to our room even once during our stay from Saturday - Monday though. We were wondering if it might be a COVID protocol, but not sure. It would have been nice to come back to the room on Sunday with at least the trash taken out and our bed made. It wasn't a huge deal for us (we just tidied up ourselves) but we were surprised and a little disappointed.
COMMON AREAS:
The courtyard was really pleasant. We were able to enjoy some time there, socially distanced from other guests (further down towards the back of the hotel). They have twinkle lights at night too, which were beautiful and romantic. Unfortunately the pool deck was closed, but we took a peek through the doors and it looked beautiful.
The hotel restaurant and lounge are also really stunning spaces, but we are not comfortable with indoor dining yet so can't speak to the food or service there.
WRAP-UP:
In conclusion, we expected more from our stay, especially given the price point of a boutique luxury hotel. Our biggest disappointments were the shower and lack of housekeeping service. However, other than the shower, the hotel was very beautiful and the staff were safe and friendly. CT read more
