I had to take my Boy Grizzly here for an ER visit on June 16th. My dumb self was eating oatmeal with raisins and my pup Grizzly wanted some. And I let him eat a little that was left over. Then wonder if raisins were ok for dogs. Looked online and said not good for dogs. I was like freaking out. Can lead to kidney failure. I was searching how to make him vomit the raisins and I saw a vet video online which the vet guy said hydrogen peroxide and for his weight 3 Table spoons, and I tried to give him the Heimlich and stick my hand in his mouth to make him gag (come to find out from Pender vet that dogs do not have a gag reflex like humans do) but he would not throw up the raisins. Called the vets near us because Pender is an hour and something away from us. And I wanted a vet to look at them as soon as possible they informed me I should call poison control for the animals and I did and they said with the amount of raisins he ate he should be OK and time went by and he was still not acting himself and I was stressed and worried about him so I called Pender and got him in there, after talking to poison control again. Hew was still acting strange and they said if I wanted to take him to the vet that's fine. I paid for the animal poison control consultation over the phone and then I paid the vet emergency bill as well because I wanted my boy to be better and nothing was more important than making sure that he will get better.I let the vet know, he ate some raisins and I gave him hydrogen peroxide after watching that dumb video. ============== SO #1 RASINS ARE BAD FOR DOGS!!!! #2 DONT GIVE YOUR DOG Hydrogen peroxide!!!!! ==================================== He was not acting himself because of the hydrogen peroxide sick to his stomach and they took a blood test, and from the teatime results he was OK from the raisins but not to do it again they wanted me to come back and do another blood test the next day to make sure he was still OK which I did , and he was fine. But when we were there for the ER visit, they gave him a shot to help his upset stomach which helped him out a lot. I LOVE PENDER VETERINARIAN HOSPITAL SO MUCH! They ALWAYS TAKE CARE OF MY FAMILY. My Furry SON AND I, and animals we have had in the past. THIS PLACE IS WHERE ANGELS HELP OUR Fury Animal BABIES!!! They take fantastic care of us every single time!

Thank you for helping our family for a peaceful passing over the rainbow bridge for our kitty. Our 15 year old cat was very sick with lung cancer and was having breathing issues so we contacted Pender over a holiday weekend about availability for euthanasia . This was a very difficult conversation and the receptionists were very patient and understanding (Dee and Valerie) to include all the details & pricing requested ahead of our appointment. After arriving at the Fairfax location, we were given the option to wait in the car or go into a private office room for us to wait. We decided to wait outside to have some quiet time with our kitty and keep him from getting anxious. A wonderful tech (Tiffany) came out to the car to go over details with us and ask if we had any questions. Once we got into the office, our kitty was very upset and anxious so the tech came in(after a few min) to give him oxygen and Dr McKinnon followed into the room to explain giving a sedative to help him calm down, breathe easier And understand a possible side effect. It worked quickly to help him breathe easier and calmly. The next step was "the shot" and they waited for me to be ready before they administered this to let him pass. This process was so dignified and peaceful. They all were so empathetic and understanding of our emotions the entire time my family was there in a small room . She even shook her head to note he had passed. They gave us as much time as we needed to stay with him for our goodbyes Once we were ready, Brie came into the room to wrap him up (like baby) in a soft blanket and told us they would bill me later and we could leave out the side door. The whole office understood how emotional we were and so very grateful for allowing our fur baby to pass peacefully and not in pain. They offer a service for a company to do private pet cremation and allow the family to be notified of where their baby is at all times ,until his ashes are returned back in an personalized urn and a clay paw print. Thank you to all the helpful staff for being so understanding, empathetic and careful taking care of our kitty!

When we had the "fab five". Starting at the top is Archie and going clockwise is CoCo, Tucker, Bruno, Chocolate.

I called this practice and they immediately connected me with a vet to talk through her symptoms. They suggested I bring her in just to be safe. When I arrived, I was checked in right away and even offered a drink or snack. A doctor quickly came out to make sure nothing was urgent, and after about a 20-30 minute wait we did a full exam. The team was so patient and kind--consulting with each other, keeping me with my dog the whole time, and making sure she was comfortable throughout. Thankfully it ended up being full anal glands and some irritation. They took care of it and gave me guidance on meds (which I already had on hand). Checkout was the biggest surprise: only $205, which feels incredibly reasonable for Northern Virginia. The clinic was clean, organized, and calm, and it was obvious the pets there were genuinely cared for (even the ones in cones having a rough day). For a stressful night, this place made it a really good experience.

You want to spend thousands of dollars and have your dog die in the end? This is the place for you…read more You will bring your 19 month old puppy to the internal medicine department with chronic diarrhea and vomiting because her normal vet referred her to a specialist. The specialist will say "Change her diet" even though you will have told him that you've already done that multiple times. You'll follow his instructions and see no changes in your dog. She begins to lose weight even though she is eating. You will go back, your dog will still have diarrhea and vomiting, and he'll suggest doing an ultrasound. You get the ultrasound done, and he'll say he's found "abnormalities" and then suggest "changing her diet" instead of trying to treat the abnormalities, and if we really want to find out wrong, she'll need an endoscopy procedure. So, you'll change her diet again, see no changes other than increasingly concerning weight loss, and spend multiple thousands of dollars for the specialist to perform the procedure. Your dog will be under anesthesia for several hours while he obtains 20-30 biopsy samples. The results come back a week later and the specialist will point out further abnormalities and stomach ulcers, and suggest you "change her diet" instead of treating the problems. Three months will go by and your once vibrant, healthy 50 pound dog will now be a walking skeleton, losing roughly 20-25 lbs. You've done everything in your power to save her life. She will stop eating and drinking water altogether for 4 straight days and become unresponsive at times, spending her days laying helplessly on a bed, with no energy do move at all. Her body temperature will noticeably drop, even though the room is at 75* and she's under a blanket. She will struggle to climb stairs or hop down from the couch, when she does decide to move. You see her suffering and on CHRISTMAS MORNING you will make the painful decision to end that suffering. You will bring her to MedVet, where she has already been seen for 3 months, including an ER visit, where they suggested hospitalization and an estimate for services which she has already recently had done, instead of an IV or any real treatment, and the vet tech will come in with a cone, because she is scared a dog with no energy will bite her. That vet tech will then, with all the compassion and empathy in the world, pull your dog by her neck, trying to drag her to the back, so, apparently, the doctor can look at her. 10-15 minutes will go by and nothing will be discussed with you as to what's going on. Then, the American Hero, who was an Army vet will come into the room and tell you you have have beautiful Belgian Malinois and say that she used to treat them while she was in the Army, and even though yours is severely emaciated, and has IBD, she will not euthanize her. If we want, however, we can surrender her. No one will ask why you are there with your beloved family member on Christmas morning, trying to end her suffering. They will just assume you are a piece of garbage who does not want to take care of a sick dog. You will leave and endure watching your dog suffer another two days before her normal vet clinic reopens. So, after nearly $7000 of credit card debt from procedures performed by the specialist, and visits to the ER and clinic, and prescription medications with very little instructions, in order to try and save my dog's life, all I have to show from it is a lifetime of pain, many years of payments, and a little cedar box that contains the ashes of my beloved dog. This place does not care about you, or your dog. They care about your wallet, and trying to obtain every dollar that's in it, at all cost. I love you, Coraline, and I'm sorry I took you here.

I was devastated to see her in that state. They pre-charged me over $5,000 for care and insisted she stay overnight with IV fluids and for more tests, even after a call that she was better according to the vet. Unfortunately, her condition worsened during the stay. When I took her to another veterinary hospital shortly after, the follow-up veterinarian immediately removed the IV, explaining that it was doing my pet harm. They also told me there could have been a simpler alternative treatment that would not have required an overnight stay. After evaluating her, the second veterinarian advised that euthanasia was the most humane option. I reported these concerns to the clinic by email and to management but received no follow-up. The veterinarian only contacted me after I initiated a chargeback with my credit card company, which the clinic disputed. I am still extremely upset about this experience and the impact it had on my beloved pet. I would like to see the clinic take accountability and make this right -- both for me and so other clients don't experience something similar. The staff, including the two doctors who examined and treated Pablo were professional, calm, reassuring and compassionate. The only exception was the one assistant who got ruffled when she tried to take Pablo's temperature rectally and he didn't like it and took a light swat at her. The assistant got pissed and dramatically tossed the thermometer back into a drawer. They gave Pablo a sedative, a pain shot, and an antibiotic. The sedative doesn't make the pet unconscious but limp like a rag doll. What I didn't know vets do is after the treatment, is to give pets a "de-sedative" to roust them. Pablito is recovering quickly and will be fine. The clinic also tries to put pet owners at ease, proving comfortable chairs, courtesy snacks and coffee. The clinic is one big room, what VEG ER calls an open concept. It was busy when we there, but we were still checked in and seen quickly. The clinic is modern with an admittance form that you can fill out and send in before you even get there. Their invoices and doctors notes are also available instantly and electronically.

I regret not taking him to any other emergency animal hospital for his end of life purposes. I called the Georgetown location initially as I was in a state of panic (he was ten plus years old, I adopted him in December 2025 knowing he had a heart murmur and was also deaf. He was brought to DC by who saved him from a kill shelter and he was very loved) as he had simply collapsed on the dining room floor and passed away immediately - traumatizing to say the least. The woman who answered my call at the Georgetown location was helpful and she gave me the phone number to the closer location to me - H Street. Once we arrived, I called the phone number to let them know we were there as we needed assistance getting him inside (they were aware of this and instructed me to call upon arrival). I was outside of the door watching my phone call go unanswered as my mother, a retired vet tech, and brother-in-law waited at the car with my deceased boy. After a dozen rings, my call was answered and they informed me they would get a stretcher and meet us outside. They were prompt in getting him from the car without any further communication. I followed them into the building and they took him into a room and immediately left. I sat there with his body wrapped in a blanket on the table/stretcher until another person came in. I was handed a clipboard and told to fill out the paperwork and once complete, to ring the bell and they would come back in. There was NO introduction. No asking of his name or what had happened. No care whatsoever about who he was or how he passed. I, devastated and distraught, offered a bit of his story up and it was dismissed rather quickly. The paperwork was taken and I was told to go up front and pay. My dog was left there in a blanket on the table like a heap of garbage. Nobody, not one person, introduced themselves to us. Not a single person took the time to show any sympathy or interest in us or my dog. They never uncovered him to take a look, they never touched him, nothing. Not a single person took the time to explain anything or offer any kind of condolences. It was the most ingenuine, harsh, impersonal and downright disturbing experience I have ever been a part of. The hospital had doctors on the floor and no other animals were in sight. I am not saying that there weren't any present or that there weren't vets and/or vet techs tending to other patients - but I am saying that there was absolutely no reason whatsoever that my dog and I received little to no attention or interest. The entire thing from the moment we walked in to the minute we left was no more than 10 or so minutes. It was disgusting. Furthermore, in ALL of the times I have had to take my past dogs in for their end of life moments to various other emergency vets, I have always received, at the very least, an email or automated text offering condolences on the passing of my animals. All were always followed by a card or note of some sort. I chose the communal cremation, as I always have, and am extremely disappointed in the lack of follow up after trusting VEG with my boy at the end of his life - which was not much to expect given the horrible and disturbing experience I had when choosing VEG for my dogs end of life cremation and carry. This is not the place to go if you want someone to care. It was nothing more than a monetary gain for them and it was truly disheartening and extremely upsetting in every way. I will never recommend VEG to anyone - not for primary care nor end of life services and I can certainly guarantee that I will be in touch about my experience with the right people and organizations in an effort to prevent anyone else from having to say goodbye to their beloved pets the way I had to at VEG. I am unwell over the entire experience and I will be very vocal about it to the right people. I discourage anyone from choosing VEG.

Service:5 Stars Pricing: 2 Stars…read more This past weekend, I had a very positive experience at VEG that was overshadowed by what appears to have been sheer greed. We brought our goldendoodle to VEG because he cut his paw; the laceration split one of the digits on his paw, with superficial flesh exposure. It wasn't the worst wound in the world, but bleeding persisted and it was deep enough that we needed to determine whether stitches may be needed. Dr. Forte and the technicians (I'm so sorry I did not get their names) were just amazing. And Sarah, who did our intake, was uncommonly kind and attentive. I had absolutely zero complaints with the staff. My sole complaint was with the pricing of a pain medication. I understand that emergency treatment is not inexpensive; it's just the nature of the beast. Still, when the Dr. said the total came to $400 for the exam, cleansing/bandaging of the wound and medication, I was a bit surprised so asked for a rough breakdown. The culprit, in my view, was a common, canine, pain medication, with which I was familiar. The cost was $93 for 14 pills. I asked the doctor if we could purchase it elsewhere and she said we could. When I filled the prescription at a grocery store pharmacy, I was shocked and then angered by what I learned. The prescription, for which VEG was charging $93, was $9.99 at my local Giant pharmacy. I could not believe (and still do not) a reasonable justification would exist for such an excessive medication markup. Surely, I thought, this chain hospital has access to preferred/wholesale pricing. Parasitic was the word that came to mind. I saw a business exploiting people already experiencing stress and vulnerability as the result of a beloved pet's sickness or injury. Although I was very pleased with the service we received, I am just very disappointed and troubled by this issue, to say the least. Certainly, this is not unheard of in the society in which we live. But VEG ownership/management, I feel you do a great disservice to the excellent employees who, clearly, work so hard to represent you in the best and highest light. With respect, do better...

My Human kept thanking Dr NcNabb because of how awesome she was. Also, the male nurse who was helping her (my Human did not get his name) was also cool. He checked in on me often -- which I know comforted my Human and made them much less anxioous. (Although we were both wildly exhausted in this photo, the smile/grin my Human has was genuine, and I was as at peace as I ever could be at a vet -- because the staff was so patient with my fretful Human, and I was receiving amazing care .) Thank you, VEG, for making me feel better!! (Which also made my Human feel better too, heh.)

Caring for animals is not easy, this clinic is a hub of a variety of people, animals and traffic…read more They are fantastic. I had a stray cat patrolling my house for months and decided to get it vaccinated and a check-up since it was outdoors for over a year and was staking out my birds going to my bird feeders. Once I heard a squawk of a sleeping bird nesting, I decided to feed the small cat. It would stop by day and night and rotate with the foxes visiting for any possible vittles. As the seasons changed and one arctic breeze passed through, the cat would still sit on the porch waiting for anything. It did not like the shelter I had built for it. It was needing care due to some observations made. There was a winter arctic blast warning that evening. I found this clinic by word of mouth about a program for strays. I finally was able to bring the cat in and am delighted that the staff are vivacious and friendly! I was very impressed by the comfort I was provided while making the unusual appointment ( I had never cared for a stray animal), the waiting area ambiance, the ease of paperwork, the visit with the amazing vet technician and Veterinarian! I held my breath as they courageously opened the carrier bag and they handled the cat with finesse and great care! I loved Dr. B's mannerisms and how she delicately treated this cat that had no human contact for most of it's life. Dr.B and the techs were absolutely amazing and I cherish this experience in all of my years of owning pets. After having stress for over 4 months immediately dissolved into relief for this cat. The cat's demeanor has been more relaxed since the visit. The clinic called to check on the cat and I am grateful for this and the overall care from this staff.

The place is clean, well-staffed, and I love that they're open until 8PM. The CareClub plan has been super convenient--it just makes things easier. That's why I'm honestly surprised to see so many harsh reviews. If even half of what people are saying is true, that's definitely concerning. But I also know how these things go--one bad experience can spark a wave of negativity, just like one good one can turn the tide the other way. People tend to see what they expect to see. From my end, I've had a good experience here. No place is perfect, but I'm happy with the care iLiKA's received.
