I've never filed a claim with Pemco, but they raised my rates by more than 17% this year and changed my policy from 12 months to 6 months. Had a PEMCO insured vehicle hit my building (building was not on the road and had not been drinking) PEMCO state they needed 30 days to decide who is at fault. I asked them to board up the windows broken, and they said I had to mitigate that myself as they would not do it. I am in business I didn't need the time loss from not seeing patients to deal with this. So, I billed them for my time ($60 per hour rather than the $200 per hour) and they are refusing to pay for my time to deal with it. It took multiple phone calls, meeting with contractors my billing was for $300 dollars which was reasonable for all the work I had to do and they bulked at it. I am not impressed with PEMCO and would never have them for one of my insurance carriers. They could of done all the work and left me to run my business, instead the lazy individuals want you to do all their work. read more

After submitting less than 5 claims since 1998, they made things so difficult that they made me feel like I was doing something criminal for bothering them. The way they are running their business is to fool customers. At first, they will give you a low rate for home, vehicle insurance and additional discount if you going with paperless. The thing is they waved some coverages required by state in the first document without notifying you. Then after several weeks, they will send you another document which shows they increased your vehicle insurance amount by 50-60% to add those policies required by state! You probably will miss that email among their advertisement emails then they will automatically start charging you for that additional amount! Even if you don't miss that email, you need to pay that because those policies are required by your state. Following a plumbing leak caused by plumber, who took full responsibility for the cost of the clean up, I merely called PEMCO to let them know this had occurred but was explicit that I was NOT filing a claim. I now find out that PEMCO reported this as a LOSS on my national insurance record that is preventing me from getting competitive quotes or even coverage by companies that require 3 years of no losses. I would not recommend pimco insurance to anybody for your home or auto. After the tree fell on the house they jacked our insurance up an extra $1,000 a year. When I called to ask questions about the semi truck sand falling on my car they acted like it was already going to count against me so I might as well claim it. On my house we had a tree fall on it and they refuse to let me or another company go take the tree off the roof. They they let a whole week go by of no rain and then they let it rain in my house for a week until some guy that they knew would come out and cut the tree off the roof. They cost over $100,000 worth of water damage to my house. Don't ever ever ever ever ever ever let anybody come out that they recommend people that they work with. You take your credit card and no matter what a contractor wants to give you a professional bid you pay for it. I guarantee you he's going to get you at least $250,000 more than wet pimco's guy is going to do for you. And by the way there guys they're all the low budget that they can possibly be. I have been with Pemco since 2003, yes they are more expensive but I thought it was worth it until today. With prices rising in everything I started to shop around for insurance to find out this company is fraudulent. Unfortunately they are saying things that never happened. They said I called them because I hit a retaining wall in my front yard, they say the pay out was $0.00 however I am now being penalized for an accident that I was NOT involved in. 1st of all I do NOT have retaining wall on my property let alone by driveway. 2nd I was never in an accident and have no damage to my car. They obviously have me mixed up with someone else. I invited them to visit my property so they could see for themselves. They never came out. Getting the insurance commission involved. Do yourself a favor stay away from this fraudulent company. Save your money any other insurance company will do better than this. They found a trick to catch one time customers by simply give them a low rate first and then will add a new policy to their account without their acknowledgement to start automatically charge them after that. I've been hit by 2 un/underinsured drivers this year and both times I've felt very undervalued as a customer. No tickets, no at-fault accidents, good credit for as long as I can remember. My car window was smashed and ignition torn apart in a parking garage, I called pemco to see what was covered or if they help with a tow truck. Despite paying for comprehensive coverage, the agent told me I had no coverage for this and there was nothing they could do to help me. I asked what would happen if my car was stuck in an intersection as opposed to a parking garage and the agent said "I don't know." I spoke with people for almost an hour and got nowhere. After 40 years with Pemco, they suddenly raised our rates over 35%. They claim to appreciate their long term customers, but this would indicate otherwise. No tickets or accidents. They did have good rates in the past, but perhaps they are downsizing now and trying to get rid of customers. I think they will succeed in losing customers. read more

I have been with PEMCO for over 30 years and have a mostly claims free history. I've had several comp claims on our cars over the years for vandalism and there have been no claims on our homes over that entire period. I have a very high credit score and all the discounts including educator are applied to our policies. For 2024 my Auto premium increase is 45% over last years premium. Furthermore, to create an illusion that the rates didn't increase that much they now made the premium period six months. Their customer service admitted to me they have taken on higher risk clients and then are passing those risks and costs onto no claims and low risk customers like me. read more

Worse insurance company you could go to looking for cheaper rates. My new car was hit in an hit and run. Pemco couldn't located the driver the first time and deemed the accident my fault on my driving report. The second time PEMCO decided that after I found the driver and got the police to get their info, that they wouldn't pursue the other insurance even though my car was hit on the side and they ran away. The other driver said that they were rear ended which the photos and damage did not show that. I was then dropped without any documentation or notice to my email or mailbox. Pemco also kept trying to add my partner to my car insurance even though her name was not listed on my car or on my title. This was a back and forth problem for over three months. My time with PEMCO was always a headache. I would never recommend or go back to them ever again. read more

Honestly, I'm not even sure they deserve a 1 Star. My fence was hit by one of their insured. Somehow, they thought I was going after personal injury claim (which I was NOT). This is when the deceit, lies, and manipulation started. I have recordings, emails to substantiate my claims. Even after requesting that they not contact my vendors, I had cut name out of estimate, they went ahead to contact them at least two times without my permission. I only wanted to be reimbursed for the damage caused by their driver. In summary they will do or say anything to lower or get rid of claim They do not care if you tell them that you just want to be reimbursed. They think of themselves as a big company, but have way outdated practices of communication and payment methods. They need to train their people to treat others how they would want to be treated not deceive and manipulate. I wish you luck if you have an encounter with them. No one would want to be treated the way that I have been treated, like I was the one who caused the accident. It wasn't until i reached out to upper management that I am now to expect payment. After 20 years of being a loyal customer, cancelled my policy and switched. They changed from a yearly to 6 month plan on the car insurance without warning and raised my rate quite a bit. I have had no claims in the past 5 years (only one accident in 20 years!) and never a ticket. I priced with a competitor and got the same coverage for a lot less. Saved nearly $20 a month. I feel like they have always been more expensive, But I stayed with them out of loyalty. No more. Even my dad, who was a customer with them since 1963, switched a couple years back. The people were always nice on the phone and helpful but they are not affordable anymore and I did not appreciate them changing the policies from yearly to 6 months without notification or the option to do one or the other. read more

I have been with Pemco for 17yrs Auto/Home/Umbrella policies. I recently received our 2024 renewal notices and for all 3 and talk about sticker shock! Auto used to be yearly renewal, and now it renews at 6mos. I thought our renewal was for a year because the premiums were about the same ($2k/yr). But when I noticed that this was for 6mos ($2011/6mos), I had to call to make sure this was not a mistake. They verified that all my discounts, excellent driving record, low miles of driving per yr, and no past claims are on record. When I told them our Auto premium has doubled I thought we were being penalized for having DUI's on our record. Then my Homeowner ins went up 43%. They told me that they were losing money on the Auto ins side and had to raise their rates. All in for a year, my premiums were just over $6k. No way I can stay with Pemco any longer. I have been shopping around and found one that is $2k less than Pemco for exact coverage. Pemco, it is too bad you failed me as a customer. I will not be renewing with you. I have been with Pemco for 18 years for auto, home and umbrella policies. I have had a couple of minor claims - broken windshield, dented fender (parking lot incident) that were handled promptly and satisfactorily and without any change of premiums. My only complaint is that they raised my auto insurance rate because, they said, they were no longer allowed to use credit score in determining the rate. First off, credit score is a pretty bogus indicator for the likelihood of claims. The lack of that information is irrelevant. Second, from the news reports that I have read, the State had not, in fact, required insurance companies to stop using credit score as an indicator, although it was being discussed. In researching other companies (I was offered a slightly lower rate by one of them) I find a lot of complaints. That is expected since most people, like me, do not write reviews unless they are dissatisfied with something. As far as I can tell, Pemco is no worse than any other insurance company and a lot better than some. read more

I was a Pemco Auto and Renter customer for about 18 months. They charged me a competitive rate and I assumed all was well. Come time to renew in November of 2018, they jacked my monthly payment for my Auto insurance up by more than $40 (almost $500 per year). I had not purchased any other vehicles, I had no accidents and no claims, yet they jacked my rate by almost 150%. When I inquired as to why the sudden higher price, my emails were met with 'crickets'. So I fired them and when with another carrier that gave me a rate that was even less than I was originally paying for Pemco. I also left a very nasty complaint on the BBB website for them. They used to be good, but they turned bad. Do not recommend this shady company. Edit: I see the Public Relations Department of Pemco responded to my review. Looks like he tried to brush this off as a standard "rate change". Let me put that to rest by saying that in 15+ years of being a GEICO customer I never saw a "rate change" of this magnitude. While I was at work, my car parked in the parking lot parked legally. A Pemco insured hit my car and left the parking lot without stopping. A witness came to my office and reported a hit and run. I found out the person that hit my car works in the same building. I was able to fine that person and get his insurance information. Reported the claim to Pemco and was assigned to claim representative Autumn Kohlieber. She never communicated with me regarding any updates on the claim, she did only when I had to complain to her supervisor. After four months of waiting, she denied the claim stating that there was not enough information. One would think an eyewitness would have been proper evidence. Thanks for nothing Pemco! read more

I was with PEMCO insurance for about three years, almost four years. The insurance agent was implying that there was no way I could afford to brand new vehicles on my own. She wanted to know who lived in the household and who my partner was. I was honestly in shock when she made that comment about having brand-new vehicles. I was so frustrated by the conversation that I did ensure the other car was with someone else. Then I got a letter saying if I didn't add my partner as a driver, they would end my policy. I ended up giving them a call, and one agent hung up on me, so I called again, and the other agent did the same thing. I called one more time, and this time I asked to speak to a supervisor, and they did not want me to talk to a supervisor; in the end, I ended up ending my policy with them. I have had PEMCO for over 30 years covering my Home (full replacement policy), 2 Automobiles, and Motorhome, I've never been more upset than this year! 2010: When the valve under the upstairs toilet failed while I was at work, flooding the bathroom, hallway, living room and seeping downstairs, PEMCO threatened to raise my rates if I filed the claim. I paid out of pocket for repairs. 2011; when my teenage daughter's inexpensive car was stolen from a shopping mall, PEMCO threatened to raise my rates if I filed a claim for the property inside the car (college books, laptop, ...) or the car. I cowered and did not file the claim. 6 months later the car was recovered, totally trashed. 2020:, I called PEMCO asking if a crack running down my driveway was covered, and if not could they provide the name of anyone who could do a minor repair. The crack was not covered and they couldn't provide any help with finding someone to repair the crack. I repaired it myself. 2021: It's time for my policy to be renewed. PEMCO Accepted annual payment from my Escrow company . PEMCO then sent me a threatening letter FALSELY stating the pavement was raised over 2" in height and was a trip risk and if I do not provide proof of repair to the driveway that my policy will be cancelled. I asked them to provide proof the crack was a hazard ... they could not. I sent before and after photos of the crack and repair. along with the photos was my "PEMCO, YOU'RE FIRED," notification. Going to leave PEMCO and I get slapped with a $320 bill! Turns out, there was a "glitch" in their system and it started billing a month behind. Pemco Insurance Company agreed to cover my claim after their insured hit me. I was not at fault. They have refused to take care of the loss in value that my vehicle sustained, that occurred through no fault of my own. This is now forcing me to use the legal system, attorneys and more of my time to get this company to do what they are legally bound to do without hassle. After giving them a diminished value report from a licensed appraiser in the state of Oregon, they sent us a low ball offer without using the same standards that our licensed appraiser used. We informed them that we wouldn't accept such a low offer and they have not responded to us since and that was November 30, 2020. I have been with Pemco for probably around 20 years. I am looking to get a different company ASAP. It's bad enough having the auto rates go up like they did and for 6 months at a time but my real gripe is this....I received a letter mandating I up my insurance to $69,000 for three outdoor sheds. 2 sheds were $800 shed kits and the other is an old shed, (over 20 years at least) that besides being plywood nailed to 2x4's, literally has no floor, walls, ceiling, insulation, electricity or foundation. It's an empty shell that is used solely for storage! They sent out a signature page mandating we double the amount of coverage. We told them they were wrong in their evaluation and the response was this is what their assessor said they were worth so that's what they go with period. And on top of that, we have an old roof on our house but it's in good condition because of the severe pitch, no leaks, moss, etc. Their assessor himself said the roof appeared to be in good shape. But because of the age alone, they have given me just 6 months to do a full replacement. I must have pictures and invoices proving this to them by August! The letter I received said this is for my peace of mind. When I'm mandated to do things which includes a very huge expense (that I don't have!) within months, does it look like I have peace of mind?! And really appreciated the condescending person from Pemco especially since it was followed by days of ignored messages left on voicemail. read more

In my years with them, I've experienced a home break in and had to use my insurance to cover the theft as well as a not-at-fault automobile accident. Both times Pemco offered up superior service, the kind that leaves you feeling pretty good despite being in a ugly situation. They take care of you; there's no better way to put it. So when I sold my house and moved to Portland from Seattle a few months ago, I had to make some changes to my Pemco policies. No biggie, it's Pemco, bound to be super easy. But it wasn't. Because I got stuck with the worst kind of agent: bad information, mistakes in policies, misquoted prices, and so on. The phone call resulted in every variety of frustration for me. I was so completely exasperated that I called my former adjuster myself to get assistance. I relayed what happened and she rectified things within minutes. Solid. Unfortunate experience with the agent, but the awesome assistance of the adjuster meant they stuck the landing. Now, two weeks later, a box shows up on my front porch. A pie. Legit. A rhubarb berry pie. From scratch. Flaky, buttery crust. Filled with all sorts of sweetness. What's up with that? Who is responsible for this unexpected yum? It's an apology from Pemco. The agent came and said the water was from the outside and therefore not covered (rarely does insurance cover water from outside unless you have a special rider). She also said that possibly my washing machine rain was clogged. In other words, speculation without consulting a plumber. This works for the benefit of Pemco, but is not an objective way of assessing a complex flooding problem. read more

I am very surprised to read the negative reviews of Pemco. Perhaps it is because insurance is something we all naturally hate. We are either lucky (or even responsible) and have no claims and "waste" a ton of money in premiums or we are unlucky (or in some cases just plain dumb in our decisions) and have an accident where a claim is required. Either way, it is not a win for the consumer in the grand picture... What I know is I have had 1 claim with Pemco when I returned to my car in a parking lot that someone hit and did not leave a note. Pemco took care of me with no games, no fuss and with extreme professionalism. Every time I call Pemco with a question or to get an insurance card replacement, they answer the phone promptly and immediately assist me. There are no annoying phone systems to play games with and they actually listen to what you have to say. Pemco's customer service is outstanding and when I did have a claim they treated me with concern, professionalism and again great service. Pemco does have higher rates, but they also are more selective in who they insure, which is OK with me. You pay for what you get in life remember... There are lots of home insurance companies out there offering all kinds of deals. The question? Is that insurance company there when you need them. You get what you pay for. Pemco is not the cheapest insurer out there but when we needed them they were there-100%. Our claims adjuster Roger made the decision to completely support our claim-- and a few of our friends thought that we would not get their backing. We purchased a house with foundation issues-- a sagging main beam in the crawlspace and crawlspace excavation done by day laborers which undermined part of the foundation perimeter. Roger listened to me, reviewed the foundation company's recommended fixes (Terra Firma Foundations) and fully funded the work. A huge help to us when we were in need. No ifs, ands or buts... almost unheard of from most insurance company's. Yes, Pemco costs more but they are a local company and they had our back. We are very grateful.
