Let me be clear. We were Mark's most difficult clients in a long time. Our 3 person, brand new condo association inherited a mess in front of our beautiful, conversion on A major street. I knew this project was going to be involved and costly. I did my research and decided to give Pemberton a try. I went to the garden center and Mark just happened to be free. He sat down with me, explained that he was a straight shooter, and listened to me ramble on about all of our problems. He said, "Ok ok. I'll come by to look at it at 4pm on Tuesday." The moment he laid eyes on the project, he was determined to help me. Each step of the process had individual cost estimates, plantings had seasonal options, and if Mark thought I could get something done for cheaper, he would say so (demo work). When the demo work wasn't done correctly (by someone else we had found) Mark and his team fixed it. The entire team was professional, hardworking, and friendly. Mark allowed me to help pick every shrub and was an expert in every way. He communicated with me regularly and was consistently timely. The outcome is stunning. People stop to comment about how beautiful the landscaping is. We also have step stones, cobble stone edging, and weed block with pea stone around the side and back. I am a huge fan of Mark and his team! I recently bought a condo and didn't know what to do with my patio area, so I called Mark. He came by and walked me through several options, proving me with cost estimates along the way, and explained everything very clearly. I found Pemberton through Yelp and contacted them based on all the great reviews they had. From my first email inquiry-Mark was extremely helpful, professional and quick to respond. There are so many businesses/contractors who won't or don't take the time to do this. I knew immediately that I wanted to use them just from my first emails with Mark. Susannah who is one of the lead gardeners came over to check out the property and she met me at the nursery to help pick out flowers and plants for the areas that I wanted done. She was so helpful and patient with all my questions and such a sweet woman! I ended up buying a cherry tree at Mahoneys in Winchester and she picked it up for me on a Saturday and made a special trip to plant it for me. In all, she came by 4 times with another team member to work on 3 areas of our property. They spent 1 day cleaning out an area above a wall which must have been a landfill and full of rocks and glass. They turned it into a beautiful shade garden. Also wanted to mention Matt who came out twice to help plant and Brian were both friendly! It's obvious that everyone loves what they are doing and there is an awesome team there. I really can't say enough great things about pemberton, the only downside is that they are so popular that they get booked up quickly for spring. I could not recommend this place more. I initially spoke with Mark who came over to my apartment to look at the job to be done. The backyard had a small plot of land along the fence that was left empty after having trees removed. Mark advised on the best solution after listening to what I was hoping for. After that, Mark connected me with Zac who ended up doing the work on the place and it all came out fantastically. The plot was completely transformed and the cost was extremely reasonable for the amount of work done. TL:DR: Bottom-line, if you're looking to redo garden areas, need decorative edge work, or just regular maintenance of existing landscaping, Pemberton Farms is the place to go! We had Pemberton Garden Services renovate our garden. They replaced the ugly railroad-tie wall with lovely stonework, they cleared out all the mess and black swallow-wort and maple seedlings, they talked to us about what things we liked/wanted, made recommendations, and then implemented them. They got a tomato patch up and running, added a trellis, put in a small patch of lawn, bushes, flowers, ground cover, the works. Then they sent a list of all the plants with links to pictures, so we could remember what they were called and not keep calling them "the sort of reddish bush on the left". The garden is virtually the only bright spot of 2020 and I cannot say enough praise about Sarah and her team. read more

The pictures say a lot, but I'll add some words. I reached out to several landscaping services and Mark was the only one to respond, and did so quickly. I inherited a mess of a back yard with all the worst weeds and there was no way I could fix it myself. It's the only place on the property that gets full sun and I knew that it had potential, and Mark and his team have realized that potential and then some. Mark was honest with me about the likelihood that seeding grass wouldn't work out well and didn't want to see me waste money, and he came up with this awesome solution pictured below that I like way more. I now have lots of space to start a pollinator garden, and a whole section for raised beds and vegetables. The team does excellent, thoughtful work and still gets the jobs done quick. Extremely reasonably priced work and materials, and both parts of the project so far have come in under budget. I absolutely recommend Pemberton's services, and will continue to work with them in the Spring and beyond. We moved into a new house in South Boston at the end of the summer with a very very neglected back yard - I think someone planted a lawn in the backyard several years before but never took care of it. By the time it became our backyard/problem it was 1/3 dirt, 1/3 weeds and 1/3 grass. It was also not level and featured a big rotting stump in the corner. I called 4 or 5 gardening places over the course of a few weeks and Pemberton was the only one that called me back. Mark was so helpful and even though it was a little late in the season and they normally don't go as far as Southie, Mark agreed to send a crew out to see what they could do to help. The guys totally ripped out the old lawn and planted a new one, took out the stump and cleaned up the front bushes. They did a great job and were super easy to work and priced the work very fairly. They are also very responsive if you have on-going questions about how to care for the yard (when to fertilize, prune, how often to water, etc.) If we can get them to drive to Southie again, we will definitely have them back in the spring to do some flowers and some upkeep on the lawn. Now that the snow is gone, it was high time to deal with our poor blueberry bushes that were completely wrecked from the winter. I sent an SOS email to Mark at Pemberton on Easter Sunday and to my surprise I heard back right away. After several less than satisfactory experiences with two other landscape/gardening companies we decided to try Pemberton Garden Services and couldn't be more pleased. They proved to be everything a service company should be - professional, efficient, reasonable and most importantly - trustworthy ... a company that respects its customers and places their interests first. Starting at the top with the owner (Mark) and proceeding through the ranks with the Field Manager (Sophie), Lead Gardener (Zak) and Gardner (Jay) we found every employee to be exceptionally professional, responsive, polite and knowledgeable. Our specific problem entailed a number of large perennial gardens bordering the forest, that overtime bore a closer resemblance to a jungle than formal gardens. Zak and Jay were assigned to get our gardens back in order - and we found them to be exceptionally polite, personable, competent and knowledgeable (I'd be surprised if there is a plant/flower that Zak doesn't know). They showed up on time, were quick to diagnosis how to best get the gardens back in order, and were equally industrious at restoring the gardens (i.e., no wasted time taking breaks while racking up unnecessary labor charges). It is obvious that the owner (Mark) has instilled an easily recognizable "esprit de corps" within his employees since they approach their work not so much as a job... but more as a profession... a refreshing change from the norm which makes a huge difference in the end result/product. I only wish we could find more companies/contractors with the same work ethic and sense of service to their clients. read more

They provided a design with many different types of plants and they were able to come and plant it very quickly. The service has been great and is ongoing with any questions i have had about the progress of the garden. when a couple plants didn't make it, they have come out to exchange the plants at no charge. i would highly recommend their services, and they are open to even the smallest jobs. I stumbled on to Pemberton's Garden when I was dashing in to their grocery to buy a quart of milk. I saw their truck in the parking lot - it had a sign on it that said they did landscaping...so I wandered thru their outdoor selection of plants and everything looked healthy so I asked if they did decks. I had interviewed 4 other gardening services and become so discouraged that I had given up and resigned myself to just not having flowers this year. Long story short, I met Mark (the owner)-he came over the next day & surveyed the layout and asked me some questions about what I wanted - and by that weekend my two large decks looked spectacular, at what turned out to be a lower price than others quoted. Others dilly-dallied - took weeks to come up with a quote and wouldn't/couldn't answer my questions. I needed these gardens. They are a respite. But more than that, I feel as tho I have new friends. I'm not comfortable with strangers in my home - but Zach and Dylan stopped being strangers shortly after they arrived. I trust them. They worked hard and fast on a VERY hot day. They've been back again when I decided to add more plants and they took time to trim and generally spiff up the plantings. Mark is just an email away when I have a question about watering/feeding/trimming a plant. That quart of milk I stopped in to buy turned out to cost me more than I expected -but it was worth every penny. read more

I had so many years of gardener problems, I hadn't thought anymore that something good like this could happen, that I could really rely on a team to come through on their commitments and do everything promised on schedule and with perfectionistic standards. I had been emailing various landscaping companies to get estimates just for reviving the dead grass. No responses, responses with ridiculous estimates.
