We passed by this spot and was curious about it. My cousin this spot was for the natives and by the natives... I was convinced. Here was my experience a late Tuesday afternoon.
AMBIANCE:
Parking: It's right on the freeway so you pull over wherever is safe. Preferably on the same side as the tent.
Seating: No formal setup you can sit on the grass, eat in your car, or cross the freeway and eat at the beach
Feels: Surroundings is small town/industrialized feel and not too far away from the airport. Inside is clean, bright, and vibrant. You're welcomed by local Hawaiian music. Great place to start off your Maui adventure
FOOD:
Huli Huli Chicken Combo (Recommended)
Combo is a huge slice of chicken with some corn and rice all for about $20. The chicken was huge, felt like I was eating a huge turkey drumstick. The flavor was fresh, well cooked, juicy, crispy and had a nice sweetness to it. A tad pricey but great portions, delicious, and worth a good cause.
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
Auntie and staff are awesome. I appreciate them.
TL; DR OVERALL:
5 Stars. I was fortunate to check this out before my trip. The food was delicious and fulfilling. I definitely see myself coming back here every time I visit Maui, hopefully next time their ribs won't be sold out. I'm grateful for this island and grateful for the work they're doing.
Tips:
* Cash only
* A good rule of thumb to support the natives, is seeing if they rock the Hawaiian Sovereignty flag.
* Generally off the grid but if you see a tent rocking the Hawaiian Sovereignty flag, this is it. read more
