I've returned back to Peking a few times and things have improved. Now when I call I'm greeted with Peking and not "hello" like I'm calling your personal number. Food has been consistent. Peking gets my local Chinese food business every time over the other local joints. There are tables at Peking but they rarely have people in them when I go. It's mostly a takeout joint. It's run by a family. I prefer when the kids answer the phone to take my order. They're efficient and easier to talk to than the mom who asks me whether I've ordered the right thing when I ask for shrimp chow mein. "Not the one with noodles." Yes, I know the difference between chow mein and lo mein. It makes me wonder how many times they've been burned by that particular mistake. I've had most of their menu items. We love their ribs, crab rangoon, egg & shrimp rolls, teriyaki beef and chicken on a stick. Their shrimp toast is my favorite even though I get heartburn every time. For entrees, we really love their black pepper chicken, pork and garlic sauce, pork with vegetables, shrimp and broccoli, chicken and broccoli. I frequently order shrimp chow mein (see above) and also the house special lo mein. The only things we haven't really loved was the hot and sour soup. It was a little bland. The General Tso chicken was soggy and not as flavorful as we have enjoyed elsewhere. All that said, we order from Peking once a week or so. We love that our check is usually over $30 so we get a free 2 liter of soda. Because they're the best Chinese takeout in the area, on a rainy night or a weekend, they get busy. Order early or be prepared to wait. Also, they don't put sauce packets in your bag, so if you're like us and you think the plastic packets of soy sauce taste better than the grocery store bottles, be sure to grab a handful before you head out. I wish they still had mu shu on their menu but they don't. The kitchen is clean and while the family that owns/runs the place is brusque, they are fair, the prices are good and so is the food. read more

It seems like every time I try a new place , this Chinese restaurant always comes through on top. They provide a clean sitting environment ; service with a smile ; and good food!! As far as my standards and my personal opinion I have had terrible service and poor infection control witnessed at other places. Not here! Take out orders have always been stated back to me at the end of an order and I have recently been asked if I was ok with the veggie mix they used. Peking Chinese Restaurant is a casual strip plaza (Chester Square) Chinese takeout place, which is order at the counter with open kitchen and has table seating for eating in. The menu offerings include the standard Chinese dishes and items including Hunan, Szechuan, and Cantonese dishes. The prices here seem reasonable, most items under $10. 22 Lunch Specials (Mon-Sat until 3PM/$5.25 each) and 24 Special Combination Plates ($7.25 each) served with pork fried rice and egg roll are offered. While staying in York, I took a short ride to Manchester and stopped in here for dinner takeout recently. I ordered the C20 Shrimp with Garlic Sauce (noted Chicken with Orange Flavor is also printed C20 on the menu) with pork fried rice & egg roll. The food was quickly prepared and ready to go in under 10 minutes. When I got back to York to eat my dinner, the good portion of food was still very hot in the rectangular microwaveable container. The main dish had a mix of tender shrimp (cleaned), broccoli, baby corn (slightly thicker), green peppers, snow peas, carrots, water chestnuts, & onions in a "not too sweet" brown sauce, a bit bland. The pork fried rice (light yellow color) had a soft texture (just right) with onions, pork and very small traces of peas & carrots. The egg roll was pretty standard, which was firm outside (not greasy) and filled with cabbage, ground pork, and celery. Overall, the food I ordered was fresh and tasted pretty decent. read more

I have been sitting on this review for a while, so it will be interesting to see where it goes. We just moved to the York region, and this is one of the closest Chinese places to our home. It was just 10 days after closing, and we decided it was time to check out the Chinese-Takeout-Scene in our new locale. Based on some reviews on Google and Yelp, we decided to give Peking a shot. The question isn't whether or not it was good or bad...because it was bad...the question is how bad? So let us go together on a journey of our night. Food: As with any new Chinese Takeout place, I always get the same thing. General Tso Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, Egg Roll, Boneless BBQ Ribs, and Won Ton Soup. Won Ton Soup: The best item of the evening. Unfortunately, it was mediocre. The broth tasted more like condensed chicken broth then won ton soup. The won tons were filled generously (which is rare), but they were very bland. Overall, a decent soup (3/5) Boneless BBQ Ribs: Just bad. They were not sweet and savory. They were mostly savory. Very one-note, and the texture was chewy and grisly. We threw them away after eating about half. (2/5) General Tso Chicken: Bad. Soggy, overcooked (meat was dry and chewy?), and the sauce did not have the range of flavor profiles that general tso should. Should be sweet, spicy, savory, salty, and umami. It was savory, that is it. Same issue as the ribs. This dish probably best highlighted Peking. That they are unable to develop flavor and present a dish that has an depth to it at all. (1/5) Fried Rice & Egg Roll: Rice was under-seasoned and strangely dry(?). The egg roll was oily and under-seasoned with very little flavor. All of it was bland. Even my 5 year old daughter said unprompted, 'This is bland, Daddy. I give it a 2." Well, she was being generous. Though, I suppose it was edible, so maybe a 2 is fair. (2/5) Overall Food: 2 / 5 Service: This is where it is going to hurt. Got there at 6:58PM. Ordered at 7:02PM (as printed on my receipt). Got the food at 8:08PM. 15 minutes? Lots of LOLS! Now, typically, I do not deal with that; but we just had a whole day of moving some stuff, prepping the new house, and we were HUNGRY! Which maybe makes the food score even funnier because I was ready to eat just about anything. I digress. So, I sat patiently, like many of us do, thinking, "It can't possibly be THAT much longer." Oh, it was. When my food came up, did I get an apology, a discount, a free egg roll, or even just a simple acknowledgement that I waited for over an hour for their food? No. They called out my order, put the paper bag on the counter, and walked away before I even got to the counter. I think they knew the circumstances, and were hiding to avoid confrontation. This place deserves to go out of business for their abhorrent customer service alone...let alone the pile of dog crap we ate back at our house. Service: -5/5 (that dash, is a minus sign) Atmosphere: Typical hole in the wall joint with some cleanliness issues. Maybe wipe down your dirty tables? Maybe sweep your floor once in a while during high-traffic times? Maybe act like you give a damn about your establishment and/or your customers and you may elicit better business? ZERO pride, ZERO integrity, PLUS bad food. Atmosphere: 1/5 Price: Um, no, I did not get money's worth. It should have been free. We threw away at least 50% of everything. No value when you are still hungry and have to go get McDonald's after already spending money for dinner. Price: 0/5 Final Thoughts: I hate this place. I very rarely drop the 'h' bomb on restaurants, but I do hope they go out of business. Any business that feels no shame in the service they provided, along with the food that was given to us, has been either a.) In the game too long and needs to retire; or b.) Having lived in the area for over 10 years, I have probably tried almost every Chinese food restaurant around, and this one gets it right in a big way. The atmosphere is a little stark and quiet, resulting in all of my orders being carry out. However, the food is amazing. The chicken and broccoli, house lo mein, ribs, egg rolls, and egg foo young are some of my favorites. The restaurant is always clean, my orders have always been correct, the prices are great, and they even throw in a free 2 liter bottle of soda with a purchase over $30. Just be sure to order in advance; carry out is popular and wait times can be a little long on busy nights (EX: I ordered food here last Saturday night at 6:45pm and it took the entire 30 minutes for it to be ready). Within the past 3 years, I haven't had more than one bad meal from Peking. A few times, they were stingy with the shrimp in their shrimp egg rolls & some shrimp dishes. Otherwise, everything I've had so far, is delicious. If you ask for add-ins like onions or a cup of egg foo young gravy on the side (like I do with my shrimp fried rice), they will gladly do it for you. The first time I had one of their shrimp egg rolls, I've been addicted every since. These rolls are the best I've had from a Chinese restaurant in a looooong time! I'm the kind of person if you mess up on the egg rolls, I won't even try whatever else you have to offer. Their fried rice is ACTUALLY fried rice, not that "yellow" rice. Last, the food is always piping hot & the wife/co-owner packages the food very well. This place is set up like most other strip mall Chinese take-outs. There's tables & chairs to sit but when I go to pick up, it's always empty. So, I assume most of their business comes from take-outs. When you call in to place an order, expect to hear the voice of a young girl, the owner's daughter. She'll say "thank you" here and there, but when I ask her to read my order back for verification, she'll do so without irritation in her voice. I've been to many Chinese take outs in my lifetime, but Peking is in the top 3 for me. My husband & I even tried the other take-out across the street next to Subway. Peking was great to my high school class in providing us with exceptional service and tasty meals when we decided to place a large order. The food was sublime, the fortunes very comical, and the preparedness of everything when we came to pick up was so professional. I commend Peking for their service to our class and for making sure we were completely satisfied with our options. Not the prettiest place but the food has been excellent on our last 5 plus visits. They offer a pu pu platter that has always been good. After 3:30 if you purchase at least $30.00 you get a free 2 liter of beverage. This is the oldest Chinese place in Manchester and definitely has reclaimed to be our favorite in Manchester. I only ever get a few things but they are amazing. They are chicken and broccoli, house lomein, and their boiled dumplings. If you get any of these you will not be disappointed. read more

This is my favorite Chinese food of all time. I have ordered often for lunch at work and everything I have always gotten was delicious! The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the lady is kinda rude. It's a family business and I'd rather deal with her children, they were always pleasant but I guess they're back in school. I feel like all Chinese restaurant workers are rude at every Chinese place? Their food is always really good. I know people who have moved from the area who want Chinese when they visit because their new town doesn't have a place this good.
