I officially will stop going to the 2 Embarcadero location. I guess that means that I will stop purchasing from Peets altogether. The so-called Manager was rude to me this morning unprovoked. The service as I've noted previously is so bad that I've resorted to using the app to purchase food under assumed names. Today they gave me banana bread when the order said pumpkin. I think the personnel issue relates to the manager and one other person (a loud speaking cashier) there. Everyone else is professional and courteous. read more

I went here because no one was here and I was in a hurry, the person working the counter seem to be having a hard time working the cash register . I order ice drink. As soon as I stepped away a bunch of people came in. The guy behind the counter took every single order and fulfilled their orders while I was still waiting. So basically I was first to order but last to get my drink and then it was the wrong drink. When I got my drink I stated it was suppose to be iced. Another person came out and did offer to remake the drink but at this point I had already waited longer than I wanted to or should have had to wait. So I just asked for a cup of ice but I felt like the other person was really really pushing to remake the drink when I just wanted a cup of ice and to leave. I got a half cup of ice and the guy telling me that I didn't say iced and acting like I was wrong. I have never ordered a hot drink and always always say iced! Ok maybe I crazy so I asked the people I was with and even they said nope you said iced we were right there and heard you. You pay for a large iced caramel latte and this is what you get. If you order a large cold brew no ice they give whats equivalent to a smedium. When asked they said it's a standard pour. A bit ridiculous for how much you are paying for coffee. The only plus to this store is they have a few staff members who are nice. read more

The coffee was so sweet and it was just extremely over powering. We got the plant based breakfast sandwich and it was so bad. The cheese was so dried and burnt. I've been working in the embarcadero for over two years and would come to this Peet's often. There seems to be a high turn around with this shop as I always see new staff. I had an issue with being charged multiple times for a drink via the Peet's app so I asked the woman at the counter how to resolve. She was very rude and told me to call customer service. Not only was she rude, but she talked to me like I was dumb. They made me my drink that I was charged 3x for and the barista was also rude himself. He left my drink on the counter and the straw on the counter above it so not really in my eyes view. I went back and asked for a straw and he just pointed at the straw on the elevated counter, again, as if I'm dumb. The team at Peet's used to be great and a pleasure to see in the morning. But now, I don't think I'll be visiting this location again or at least until the current staff is no longer there. read more

Taking the ferry to and from the Ferry Building, I would stop by the Peet's there for coffee. Peet's is still one of my favorites coffee roasters but due to pandemic, it was sad to see that they closed the location at the Ferry Building and others in the FiDi. Walking back to catch the ferry, I came upon a Peet's the Embarcadero Center and it was open. I got a drip coffee and enjoyed it at the table outside. There were no customers inside and only two were outside at a table. A sign of the times as most people are still working from home and not in their offices. Glad to have found a Peet's in the FiDi and will be back if I'm in the area. read more

I use to go to the location at the Rincon center, however that location closed and I opted to come to this Embarcadero one. I arrived between the hours of 12:30 PM a 1:00 PM. The store wasn't particularly packed but there were 2 others in front of me. I awaited my turn and notices that the cashier was in training. I handed him my two gift cards and asked him to check the balance in the gift cards because I want to spend the card with the lessor amount first. He proceeds to ask my my bag of coffee beans to be scanned. He was not able to find the bar code and request assistance from the barista who informs him that he select the means from the menu. Right after that he takes my gift card and doesn't check the balance and swipes it then goes on to inform me that there was more than $22 on the gift card he just swiped and retuned it to me. He then swipes the secondary gift card and informs me there's $6 dollars and hands the gift card back to me. I then inform him that I would like the use the $6 gift card then the other to clear out the balance of one. He then informs me that " he had already completed the transaction". At this point I let out a slight laugh. I then asked if he can combine the gift cards and he replies " I don't think so". I then ask him if he can grind the beans for me pour over style style. He replies "how?". I said pour over. The tells me ok. I walk over the the waiting area and witness him struggle a tad bit before grabbing the barista. The barista seems to also be struggling. I ended up telling them that it was fine and I'll go grind it myself at Costco. I have never been to a location where the staff didn't know what they were doing. I hope they do provide more training to try staff. Hopefully when I return I the future I would have a better experience. read more

I come here all the time, but after 7am they're a disaster. So I come before 7a! Usually they're fine. But when they get busy they inevitably lose orders. It's endemic to this location. I find ordering beans here to be intolerable too because they do not handle that well, it can take 15 minutes if they get you the beans at all. Go to the Peet's on Market for beans. read more

Therefore, I will make a second attempt by being as PG-13 as possible so as not to violate their sensitivities.... . . The coffee was first rate as usual... (Why this part was flagged, I have no idea) . The barista wore an item on his person that was offensive to me, and had I seen it upon entry, I wouldn't have. (better?) . F I N A L L Y was able to try out Peet's coffee since moving to the Bay Area and I totally get it now. I had a pretty basic order, White Chocolate Mocha, which is hard to screw up anyway. Although this location isn't as big and robust as the surrounding ones, I'd say that it's fitting enough considering the building it's in. I for one prefer a smaller setting when I'm in the mood for productivity anyway, so this shop is perfect for me since not many people would be coming and staying here since it's so small. And when I'm done with work, I'll go outside and enjoy a short walk to the port for some unwinding. read more

I'm trying to review the Peet's Embarcadero location, store # 1097, but the photos on yelp look different. Anyway. Hours posted on this PEET'S location to open 5am, weekdays, I walk several blocks to arrive there when PEET's opens several days per week. This morning, Manager April refused to pen at posted time, telling crowd gathered outside in the cold she's not opening until 6am. I walked too far to return home and then come back, so many of us waited outside in the freezing cold. I asked Manager April to at least let us wait inside and/or serve us drip coffee if she's not fully capable of being ready to do her job on time. Manager April displayed no sense of responsability and was rude and nonresponsive, like her failure to be ready on time to do her job was someone else's responsability. She seemed angry at us and at her job. Unprofessional. April is the store manager at the #1097 PEET's location. She is responsable for the store. Making sure she has enough staff so the store can function is her responsability. Slacking off in her responsability such that customers suffer and then being flippant and angry toward said customers is unacceptable. Peet's corp needs to develop store managers so they understand what their professional duty to the (regular) paying customers is. I come to #1097 PEET'S several times a week at 5am and pay $7 for a beverage each time. I've been coming to #1097 location 10 years before COVID. Expecting to be treated in a professional manner is not too much to ask. I expect the manager to show a sense of responsability after failing at her job, and responsiveness to customers' concerns; not an indifferent flippant & angry attitude as though she has no concern whatsoever for repurcussions or accountability from her employer. I've been a regular PEET's customer in SF and East Bay for 20 years. This experience dissapoints me terrible. I recommend fellow longtime PEET'S customer consider taking their business to JOE & THE JUICE or ILLY CAFE - which has already taken much of PEET'S COFFEE's business due to PEET'S overly slow response to the COVID Crisis - until PEET'S COFFEE decides to get its act together. read more

I don't agree with Matthew L's post. I was there and he was very rude insisting on a free comp card because Peets opened late yesterday. I have been going to this location for many years and April is very warm kind and a joy to see every day. She always smiles and is very friendly. This man was out of line. She could not open because she was all alone. A small spot on the ground floor of 2 Embarcadero Center. The location is in central FiDi, so there are many suited up patrons throughout the weekdays. For being a Peet's and in the Embarcadero Center, however, the interior design of this location is quite weak. I ordered a small latte which turned out fine. There are few seats inside or outside the premises. There are no power outlets, which unfortunately seem to be the norm nowadays for coffee shops. The order came quickly. Not having a restroom is also a minus. Maybe it's because the rent in Embarcadero is too expensive, but this Peet's is smaller and worse than other Peet's locations in the immediate area. The Peet's two blocks away on the corner of Sansome is a much better location. read more

Great Peet's coffee. Personally I think the coffee is better than Starbucks. Try their famous Major Dickinson's Blend.

Many bad experiences contributed to this review under new management. They don't keep Major Dickenson around enough only as decaf. I've walked in many times and walked out w/o coffee in hand wasting my time. Today I was the only customer waiting in line. They had many employees running around with only one register but when it was my turn the guy was still playing with his register not greeting me to come over. I had waited a long time for service and no one offered to take my order within a reasonable time frame at 10:15 am. read more

My husband and I are regulars at Peets at the Front Street location. What an amazing staff and all work together to make it all run smoothly which at times certainly can't be easy. Regretfully, I have to withdraw my endorsement of this Peet's. I've been a regular for over two years now, but I may need to take a break until the insect problem is addressed. For at least the second week in a row, the baked goods were infested with a small swarm of fruit flies (they seem to have good taste and congregate around the brownies). At least several of the employees are aware of the insect problems and have offered the following unsatisfying responses on separate occasions: (1) management is "aware" and is "taking a long time" to resolve the problem, (2) customers need to file complaints with the corporate office, and (3) the building is "old." The last explanation is perhaps the strangest. What does the age of the building have to do with the employees'/store's inability to eliminate or relocate a small swarm of flies? If the flies keep coming back due to the building's old age, doesn't this mean the store needs to be all the more vigilant in its efforts to eliminate or relocate the flies? read more

I walked into Peets.. and ordered my drink.. forgot to ask for non-foam, and when the barista was pouring my drink, I asked very nicely that I forgot to mention that I dont want foam... and he got so worked up.. i got scared... his commentin a very loud, upsetting tone... : Whenever you order extra hot, there is foam!" my thought... well.. i just forgot to mention that I dont want foam. I've read some reviews here about fruit flies on the food. I don't know if this problem has been resolved yet, but I've seen signs for management/supervisor positions opening and then soon those signs were gone. Maybe there has been a change of management? You also have to consider that despite how many people go here every day, there are only 80 reviews for this place. It's because no one really has time to review it, + there's probably no point in reviewing it because it's not super great, it's not terrible, and everyone would probably have a similar review of the place. Peets is Peets. It's good. Maybe a bit realistically overpriced, but with people going here almost every day it's not seen as being overpriced. I have coworkers that go here every morning and the baristas already know exactly what to get him. They deal with a lot of customers per day, have nice baristas that know what they're doing, and they get your orders out fast and accurately. Every time I have been here I haven't had a problem. It's a 1 minute walk from my office, which is closer than the 2 minute walk to Starbucks. Even when the line has 10 people in it, it goes by really fast because they're really super-efficient with their orders. This is a quality Peets establishment with great working wifi that I use all the time. Until I find something wrong with this place personally, 5 stars for me. read more

I dated a guy we'll call The Quarterback. Not because he played football, but because he was one of the cheapest guys on the planet. How cheap was he? When we'd go out for lunch, he'd buy one fountain soda for us to share and tell me to drink from it when the server's back was turned. Plus, he saved pennies in tennis ball containers. "This is my retirement," he'd say. One shiny canister next to another, all lined up neatly in the bottom of his closet: Penn, then Spalding, then Wilson - In alphabetical order, as they should be. At Peet's one morning, the Quarterback's drink came to $2.75. He handed the barista $3. Instead of returning the change, she said "thank you" and dropped the quarter into the tip jar. Uh oh. The Quarterback reached across the counter and dug his stingy little fingers into the tip money. He rifled through the dollars until he found his beloved quarter. "No, thank YOU" he replied. I was mortified. He did this at my FAVORITE Peet's. The only one in the FiDi that will get you in and out quickly! If you're dating a Quarterback, I suggest you encourage him to use his debit card at Peet's, which will eliminate the pressure to tip. Or dump his cheap a$$. Monday night, before I donned my pirate gear and got set to sail on the sea of rum, I knew that I needed something to soften the blow of the free booze. I figured a latte (it has milk, after all) and a treat would be a good start. I also needed this because I had kind of forgotten to eat enough that day. No, I'm not on the model diet, but sometimes I am hungry but don't want to eat just ANYTHING. As I was shopping at VS in Embarcadero, I decided to stop here. Normally, I'm not a fan of Peet's non-flavored lattes, finding them too bitter, but their flavored lattes are always delicious. I have been trying to avoid flavored-type beverages for some time to cut down on my sugar intake (and I KNOW rum drinks don't help in that department), but on this evening I felt a Gingerbread Latte was in order (I used to like the GBL at Starbucks, until it became Gingersnap Latte, complete with gingerflakes that sink to the bottom and choke you on your last few sips). The staff was friendly, and when I saw that their goodie case was empty, they happily pulled out a bunch of stuff for me to choose from. I chose the pumpkin pie bar (sans whippage) because I was trying to fool myself into thinking that the pumpkin was healthy. It was DIVINE. On Saturday I left a whole day workshop with my mind spinning. Time change night (my favorite), it was still a beautiful day and the idea of getting home to nobody made my heart flounder..... Sometimes you are angry and you want someone there to give you perspective. Sometimes you are confused and you want someone there to tell you it will be ok. Sometimes you are discouraged and you want someone there to just give you a long hug without saying anything. Those are the times when I always see myself walking to Peet's Coffee at the Ferry Building. The celebration of food in all its forms, the view, the happy people around....and you add a nice latte or tea on top of that......I feel hugged! :-) It's a big store, but there aren't many seats inside. On the other hand, there are large wooden tables and chairs just outside. The service is not the best and sometimes there's a big line, albeit fast. However, I am always so hypnotized by everything and everyone else around me that I don't care. The coffee? Well, it's Peet's, and I am really not a coffee snob. One thing that I really like is that they have decaf iced-coffee, unlike other places. They also have some good pastries, my favorite is the 'Florentine cookie", which is a very flat cookie with only nuts on one side and chocolate on the other side. What I really love about this location: I can always browse the bookstore next door (and sometimes score an author's keynote), stroll the building and its enchanting shops, or even sit at one of the benches outside, hold my cup of coffee.............and take it all in! Happy people walking around and enjoying their meals. Birds playing around and flying away. Tourists from all around the world, with their cameras, looking at my city with awe and from an angle that I many times miss, so busy I am with my own thoughts. It's easy to take for granted such whimsical beauty when you have it here, available all the time. You almost don't see it anymore. Peet's Coffee at the Embarcadero is one of the places in SF that rescues me from myself. That reminds me of the privilege that I have for being alive, leading a fabulous life in such a fascinating city! Is it only Peet's? Not really. But next time you are there, take a deep breath, look around with curiosity and open your heart ....maybe you will see what I see. :-) read more
