Seriously, people. What type of cafe is this? One of the two toilets is usually out of service, the trash is usually overflowing, the employees smoke in the outside seating area and don't clean up, the barrista plays with her hair while making the coffee, the bum who is set up in the corner leaves for 20 min but leaves his computer on the table meant for handicapped patrons, customers routinely wait lengthy times to both order and receive their coffee. I love Peet's Coffee, but this cafe needs some professional advice on how to conduct a business. Depsite the coffee being excellent, this place deserves a single star for the lack of care in the establishment itself. Get the coffee to go. read more

I love Peet's Coffee, I go to Peet's at least three times a week and the closest Peet's is over twenty minutes from my home. I also go to Peet's when I travel. I was rather disappointed with this particular Peet's as I came here for four mornings as it was around the corner from my hotel. Two of the four mornings the baristas incorrectly made either my drink or my son's beverage. On the morning they incorrectly made my son's drink, (chocolate milk), they did so three times. We had to wait for 10 minutes to have a cold chocolate milk with whipped cream made. In addition, the barista seemed agitated with us for asking to remake it and we where not offered a free future drink card. The kicker for me though was on the last day I visited, I asked them to marry together two Peet's Coffee gift cards into one and I found out they next week at my home Peet's Coffee that they handed me an empty gift card instead of the card with $18 on it. read more

It's always awesome to go out of town and find a Peet's but this new location really needs to step up it's game. Both of the times I went in for a plain cup of coffee and a pastry they forgot to give me the pastry! Now, I'm a forgetful person but...really? You forgot the whole other half of my order? 'Cause ya certainly didn't forget to charge me for it. And no self-respecting fat girl likes to have to say, "CAN YOU GIVE ME MY PASTRY NOW??" In desperation of a caffeine fix we stopped at Peet's. First off, parking is horrible. I can't blame Peet's for all of the Trader Joe's customers stealing the parking, but by the time we finally parked I was already off on the wrong foot. I asked to order one of the blended drinks on ice not blended and that wasn't an option. I was told it would be easier to order a mocha with carmel. This was confusing to me, but I went with their suggestion. The staff seemed wired on caffeine and was all over the place. My husband played it safe with a regular coffee which was so so. My mocha was the first mocha I have ever had with half of the cup full of foam and the rest with burnt coffee. I wasn't sure if I got the wrong drink or what, but it tasted like burnt old coffee with foam and two pieces of ice. We wont be back anytime soon. read more

Great service!! Hai is always super warm and accommodating. Great customer service. Not robotic like some other corporate coffee joints. I love their huge selection of loose leaf green teas-- must be 8-10 of them, all greeeeen! I'm into their gunpowder green tea. Hai can explain the different qualities of each one. Never knew I had so much to learn about green teas! You can also pick up a nice new French press. They have lots of sizes and even some that are for making iced coffee. Pretty cool. I want to check those out more when I have the time. read more

Peet's coffee is great. The store is clean and the service is excellent. The reason I haven't rated 5 stars is the patio. The patio has a wonderful firepit with a built chess/checkers board and benches just outside the historic Cooper-Molera adobe. Unfortunately, this feature seems to attract every whacko in town like moths to the proverbial flame. On any given day or evening, the patio is a loitering zone. There you will find vagrants, drunks and the simply certifiable, all spread out with their filthy bags, blankets and garbage. It is the foremost reason I choose to get my coffee elsewhere. I realize it's public property and not Peet's patio, but the congregation of loose-noodles makes this spot a no-go if I want to sit and enjoy my coffee outside. read more

3.5 Stars This Peet's is in the same plaza as Trader Joe's, rg burgers, and Ike's. Nice baristas and lovely interior, plus a good amount of parking outside. They had less milk out than most Peet's locations (there are usually at least 3-4 kinds out), and one of them smelled like it was spoiled. Other than that, it was a good experience. read more

The baristas were way cool. The store is open later than most other cafes in the area (9 pm instead of 7pm) on a Sunday evening. I tried the mango tea freddo-great tasting and just the right amount of sweetness. Parking can be a hassle since the lot is small and shared with TJ's, a pharmacy, and burger joint, but it depends what time you go. read more

Good place to stop in while traveling for coffee and oatmeal. Service is fast and friendly, and the employees seem to know the regulars. There is not always a table inside so you might have to brave the outside patio. The people who hang out might be a little bit noisy. Great staff, rude patrons! First off, see my review of Trader Joe's, the parking here is a nightmare in heels. Peets has the added benefit of having the epicenter of misfortune right outside the windows in the courtyard. It seems that through some force of nature or design homeless folks, faux-homeless teens, AA attendees, and just the general riff-raff of Monterey - nay the entire west coat, gathers here. You see there is not much between LA and San Francisco so drifters and hobos end up stopping off here. In addition there is a major bus station right across the way and also a gas burning fire pit. Yes, a cozy fire right right there for the strumming and yelling crowd to go at it. Yes express yourself but not ten feet from me with my two dollar cup of coffee! I come here for peace, if I wanted an army of homeless people and really bad music I would go to a soup kitchen with a tape player full of the Grateful Dead. Now I don't look down upon the less fortunate of society but holy macaroni why do they look down on me. Apparently I am not "homeless" looking enough to be left alone so I am constantly asked for money. I DON'T HAVE ANY! They get mad when you don't toss cash at them and even madder if you offer to buy them a sandwich, "Hey if you are really down and out a sandwich should be enthusiastically embraced! What's worse is all the old nasty hippies shoving their way in and out for their precious latte. Of course these dirty flea-bags toss cash at these homeless folks. They don't care because all their money is from their parents trust funds and they feel guilty they have all the money they used to say was evil. Now, different story! So they toss cash to feel good about themselves, they make the lot of the homeless even worse, and they still find time to give me the stink eye, but good! The coffee is great! read more

The staff and coffee are 5/5. Unfortunately the parking and the degenerates around the fire pit are a 0/5. Why not join forces with Trader Joes and Chipotle to hire a private security guard? The parking problem originates from the AA meetings at Monterey Fellowship Hall. When the 5:30pm AA meetings fill up, so does the parking lot. It takes more time to wait for a spot to open up than it does to park up on van buren and walk down, but at that point, why not just walk down alvarado? This is actually an easy fix. Let the landlord know about the problem and put a uniformed guard in the lot for a few weeks. Fix these small issues and my rating will go from 1 star to 5. --Comment upgraded from 1/5 to 3/5 because Peets took the time to respond. read more

I would recommend trying any of the other gourmet coffee shops in the area as this one has the chain coffee feel written all over it. And the dagger they use to hold the bathroom keep is a must see if you are there. OK, skip that and just go to the better places down the street. But if you are in a rush, this isn't that bad. Large Peets location with a nice outdoor seating area. I don't make it to Peets often, but the folks working were helpful and answered any questions I had. I was served quickly with my correct order and smiles all around! Based on prior reviews it sounds like they may have a bipolar crew of personalities working - or potentially, just can't be bothered with bologna at the end of a long shift. I'll give the employees the benefit of the doubt. If you haven't tried Peets before or are unsure if this location can meet your need for coffee and a place to rest your feet, my vote would be to give it a try! read more

I always get tea here, since it is convieniently across the stree from the Monterey Transit Plaza. The customer service is cooperative and friendly, they will help you pick out the right tea (or coffee), by guiding you through the process. It is in a great location and is on the way to CLE, which is walking distance. Give it try and visit Peet's sometime! read more

I'm a huge fan of Peets Coffee. With that said, this review is about the service at this location only. I ordered a cappuccino extra hot and went to the restroom. I came back to pick up my coffee and took a sip. It was luke warm at best. I told the young man behind the counter, and he replied "Well, it's been sitting here for 5 minutes". I looked at him like "Are you kidding?", and I once again said "It's Iuke warm." He replied again, "Well, it's been sitting here for 5 minutes." At that time, the manager came over and said, "No problem, we will redo it". She also gave me a coupon for a free coffee. At $3.50 for a cup of coffee, and with that kind of customer service, that young man can surely not expect a promotion anytime soon! read more

Peet's is my go-to coffee stop, and while my boyfriend and I were visiting Monterey, I figured we could grab lattes this morning. This Peet's is lovely and inviting in aesthetic and was moderately busy at 9:30 on a Saturday morning. My boyfriend liked his maple latte with soy and the lady who made it was friendly, though frazzled. My soy latte was bitter and expired however, so I requested a remake. But it came out exactly the same. I threw it away and left; it was undrinkable. All in all, I won't be back for the lack of beverage crafting knowledge, but as long as you like a lot of sugar in your drink to cover up the dead shot taste, you should be fine. read more

The coffee is good, the store is not. There are many homeless people hanging out there, who do not buy anything but have six phones to charge, people take baths in the restroom and I have found discarded bandages lying around that appear to have Staff on them. I don't hate the homeless, but I don't like drug addicts. The way things are now, they are more politically correct than me but I know if you lay down with dogs, don't be surprised when you get fleas. Oh, and they can steal from you now and not be prosecuted, but I would be for the violence I would retaliate with. Too bad, the management has no concept of dignity. read more

This Peets is like an oasis in Monterrey. Here you can feel at home, and very much enjoy the lap of lovely in one the more prettier cities in Northern California. Store is awesome matching up with that Mission Style architecture we learned to love so much. Get the latte, machiatto, espresso, cappuccino, americano, beans, toys, ground, whole, water, bakes ...even some food...Trader Joes is across the ample parking lot and lots and LOTs of tourists. Aah, Peet's... A local staple. All around the country. Why do I love Peet's coffee, despite being devoted to local companies everywhere else? At least it originated in California... The store is located on the edge of Monterey's downtown, surrounded on one side by a park where street kids/homeless guys hang out day and night, and Trader Joes, the integrative pharmacy, and a burger shop on the other side. Just imagine. Seating is jam-packed at times and pretty empty at other times. Baristas are fast, and generally don't leave you waiting for your non-fat mocha very long. Okay so I am a huge fan of Peets Coffee. Been going to the Pasadena location for almost 16 years among various other locations. Besides that I have a relationship with Peets Coffee and have even visited their headquarters in Emeryville. Plus they partner with my foundation. I have now visited this location two days in a row. The people that work there are "okay". Not the best. I have tried talking to various folks, asking questions, etc and it is sort of like pulling teeth at the dentist. Lol. The only thing that is consistent are the beverages that I get which to me is only part of the experience. I plan on trying the new location tomorrow. Let me start by saying that I truly love the coffee at Peet's. The purpose of this review is to highlight there lack of customer service and VERY slow ordering process. I have been to this place at least a dozen times with the hope that one day the slow-service will change. Today was the last time I will be a customer to this Peet's location. I am baffled on what the problem is. It would seem as they do not care about how long it takes to make your coffee. It is sad because they are losing any potential new customers that experience this. Not to mention from a business standpoint, I guess they don't care about making profit. Yey! They have almond milk now! I love the coconut latté! It takes me on vacation for a good 15 minutes. Customer service is pretty consistent, I get what I order -- no complaints. Some people need to read the sign where the line starts. This store should have an official peet's sign hanging from the ceiling. I come for the Tea more than anything. It's really good and the selection is awesome. The Coffee and Tea is significantly better than Starbucks, they focus more on simple quality rather than sugary syrups and strong artificial flavoring. Gunpowder Green and Lapseng Souchong are my suggestions if you come here. The baristas are super hit-and-miss. I've had times where the baristas are really attentive and will come out and ask me how my cup is. One evening there I was looking generally unhappy (not related to the drink) and the barista asked me if he made it right and offered to redo it just because I was frowning. Thats how you do it. Seriously. There's a british guy named Peter who's super nice, too. Kudos dude, keep the smile up. Other times I've had baristas that act like they're doing me a favor or have been grouchy. Happened a few times. Not always. I think this place had a bad wrap for a while because the Gutter Punks and Street Kids claimed the fire-pit as their own, however it's been a while since they were kicked out so it doesn't have that strange vibe anymore. read more

While I'm not a fan of the Peet's brand coffee, the service here was excellent. They give you exactly what you ask for the first time. Extra hot, light foam, coconut milk and coconut whipped cream. Most coffee shops now a days won't give you an actual hot drink so I was very pleased with the way they delivered on my requests. read more

I prefer Peet's and since this is the only Peet's on the Monterey Peninsula this is where I get my coffee fix. This morning the general manager Jenny was kind enough to make amends for a messed up order the day before. She did not have to but I sense the franchise values returning customers. Her crew is upbeat and efficient and it never fails that I end up in a conversation or two with other customers. It seems so much more of a home town coffee shop than any of the other coffee outlets that I frequent. That is my impression. My favorite treat of late is an iced caramel macchiato. The Starbucks drink is too sweet, Carmel Coffee Roasting's caramel macchiato tastes burnt and the baristas consistently fail to follow the recipe. Peet's barista's get it right 90% of the time and it is superior product. So good it is addictive and I don't mind admitting this. read more

One of the better Peet's I have been, too. The Ontario Airport location dropped this coffee maker to the bottom of the heap. This one seemingly cared about my special need to add honey to my drink before making my drink. I would also say, if you are single gal this would be the #1 pick up place for an early morning pick me up in America. Hunks galore grabbing fancy drinks on the run, but a beachy laid back kind of run. Glad I am married, but it sure made me think of my single friends looking for hunks with money. I don't think it is cheap to live here in Monterey. Sorry to be so shallow, but I love my friends and living in SoCal can be really shallow, but fun. I love Peets coffee but this location is not my favorite. After waiting in line this morning, I was told to move from in from t of the case to behind the line in order to be served. Really? It was obvious that I was next in line and moving back to only move forward again....well I moved right over to Plumes and had excellent coffee and excellent. Service.
