This Peet's location is a hop, skip and jump right off the freeway exit, Bay/Porter, in the Nob Hill shopping center, Capitola. I have been patronizing the Capitola Peet's for years. Employees always seem happy. Clean space. And a fairly large outside patio to enjoy. Cool art work too. Yesterday on a rare rainy day downpour it was nice sipping an extra hot latte and just chillin. I'm a Peet's regular and I highly recommend anyone who loves great coffee and great coffee beans to purchase them only at Peet's Coffee. I've been to all their locations in the Santa Cruz County but I prefer the one closest to my favorite beach spot. I'm always greeted with big smiles, professional service and all their employees go above and beyond to make you feel like you're a part of an amazing small town family. Unfortunately, on Friday Nov. 8, 2024 a customer made my usual wonderful experience not so pleasant. This customer came into Peet's and started SCREAMING at that top of his lungs at a woman who was politely standing against the wall clutching her tiny, four pound Pomeranian. He screamed at her, bullied her and made this poor woman cry her eyes out. Then, one of the Peet's employees was forced to intervene into this situation, in an attempt to get this man to stop yelling at and bullying this female customer. After the Peet's employee asked the man to please stop yelling at their customers, the man then SCREAMED again at the top of his lungs " F - YOU! I AM TAKING MY BUSINESS ELSEWHERE! " Immediately after screaming profanity at the employee he proceeded to throw his beans all over the counter. (Note: employee was a woman, the second female he screamed at that day) This angry, abusive customer posted a one star review about Peet's, but his story about the events that took place that day are purely fiction. All you need to do is click on his name ( Ryan B. ) and take a look at the plethora of One Star Reviews he leaves for businesses all over the county. Hopefully, this angry bully stays true to his word and takes his business elsewhere so that the rest of us can enjoy our coffee in peace. Peet's Coffee is the best tasting coffee there is and their customer service at all their locations are top notch, but as I stated above, the Capitola location is my home away from home. I order Americanos exclusively. I never miss a day of coffee. Today I ordered an American in my reusable mug. I got my order walked out to my car: and took one sip and the water was so hot my lips, tongue throat and chin are all scalded. Because it was my insulated mug I didn't deal the heat on my hands which would have saved me. I have never had an americano that hot. When I went inside to tell them, the barista looked at me like I was lying and explained that the water is always heated to 200 degrees and she responded sneakily, "I can assure you, I didn't do anything to make it hotter." The implication being that I was being dramatic or dishonest about it. Perhaps the equipment was malfunctioning? I don't know the process of making an Americano but I do know that a normal cup of coffee shouldn't result in scalded tissues. It's now evening time and I still can't put anything in my mouth without pain. Mistakes happen. Equipment malfunctions. When a customer brings it to your attention, rather than being defensive or snarky, perhaps take the situation seriously. Apologize sincerely. Look to see if the equipment is working properly. I went to this location today to purchase coffee beans. When I arrived there was a woman carrying her little pomeranian through the store, over to counters, and over the coffee bar. This was clearly a pet and not a service animal. The staff did not say anything to her about this clear and disgusting violation of the health code, so I spoke up and said that it was both illegal and gross to bring your pet into a location where food and beverages were being served. One of the employees immediately proceeded to yell at me in an aggressive tone to "not speak to other customers" and that "it was her job to inform customers that they can't bring pets into the store". So I responded and said she should do her job because it was a health code violation and it was disgusting. She then proceeded to scream at me (this is not hyperbole...she was red-faced and yelling) to the point where I couldn't understand what she was even saying. Frustrated, I said I was taking my business elsewhere to which she said that I was not allowed back. If this is how Peets treats their paying customers, then they do not deserve to be in business. The health code is in place for a reason. Businesses are obligated to comply for a reason. Any business that can not respect the laws which govern them and the customers which support them do not deserve to exist. I am done with Peet's. I will take my business to local coffee shops which care about things like maintaining sanitary conditions and respecting paying customers. read more

Had their signature drink- black tie. Strong w a hint of sweetness. Not many people here at 1pm on Saturday. Service was good & quick. Husband got caramel macchiato which he loves. Great experience until I went into the bathroom at noon on a Monday. Great coffee. Great service. Nice upscale decorations in the place. But a nasty surprise awaited. Bathroom was very substandard. Floor was dirty- brownish with accumulated watercolored corners shading to charcoal. Yellow mineral ring in the toilet bowl. NO TOILET PAPER. At least there was soap and paper towels. To be fair, it was swept but I felt like I had teleported to some gas station out in the desert. Fix this, Mr. Owner. All it needs is a good scrubbing. Signed Mom P.S. This is the capitola edition of the peet's coffee mini empire. In part because this is a strip shared with many, many other businesses, there is no shortage of parking. Even on the busiest day (wharf to wharf race, yo) there will be spots open in that spot somewhere. As far as peet's go well, they all kinda blend together layout, display and function wise. This is one of the larger spots in the area, with more comfy chairs and outside seating then you might think. The outside patio is very nice even if it does front the street. On sunny days it's quite the comfy spot to coffee and chill(well coffee anyway).Likewise the interior spots are better then your usual peet's in my opinion. Service and pricing is pretty typical-no real difference from your usual peet's starbucks lite offerings. They do struggle to keep the pots of brewed coffee up and rolling in the mornings during (and just after) the rush, not an issue if you are ordering custom coffees-lattes, espresso, cappuccino, etc. More of a big deal if you are just popping in for cuppa on the way to work. This is due in part to the habit for whatever reason of running the opening shift with two or less people working. Dunno why that is-can't find reliable openers or if they are just trying to save labor costs, but whatever the cause it hurts the overall service of this location. Hopefully this will not be an issue when you visit. When it's all said and done however, this is probably the best Peet's in the area. Not necessarily the finest, most modern, hipster place, but not all that bad a coffee stop at all. Bonus points awarded for the super early opening hours of 5:30 am. read more

Ever since recently getting back on the motorcycle, 1 of my favorite excursions is cruising Highway 1 along the Coast through various points between Pacifica & Big Sur. A good waypoint for me to rest, refuel & relax on these excursions is the greater Santa Cruz area. So imagine my joy when I found this Peet's location conveniently just off the highway. Because I love Peet's coffee! It's clearly my favorite amongst larger coffee chains in NorCal. The coffee itself is usually 5 stars for me. Leaving service as the most common variable to the overall experience. Service at this Peet's, in just a couple visits, has been inconsistent. The 1st visit, not so good. The 2nd visit, better. But both times, it felt like a weird vibe here. On that 1st visit, while waiting in line to order a drink, 1 of the staff standing near a merch display informed me that everything was 10% off, including drinks. OK, sounds good. Upon ordering my drink, I noticed no 10% off. I brought it up, but staff at the register said it was for retail only. Although he did then ask the barista for clarification, both of them seemed hugely uninterested. You know, it's only 10% & with that kind of lack of enthusiasm, I could tell it wasn't going to be worth the effort. Fortunately, service was friendlier, more straightforward & more on the ball my 2nd time here. On both visits, though, I think staff were a little thrown by me walking into the place wearing head-to-toe motorcycle gear. Hey, it's for safety. I'm not part of some gang rolling into town to raise Hell. Oh well, of course, I still love Peet's coffee. & I'll probably still hit up this location because of its convenience along my riding route. WHERE WAS I WHEN IT CAME IN? The two guys who were working were discussing the Peet's Barista competition which I thought was adorable.... best of luck to you gentlemen!!! Anyways- I woke up cranky.... I had a cranky day.....had stuff taken from a teacher classroom meaning I had to go across the street from here and get some teacher supplies.... my haven is coffee... so one medium iced sugar free mocha soy latte later I had slurped my crankiness away by slurping really loud in the parking lot. Plus- my old psychology professor who taught the lying and deception class goes here.. I was able to thank him for being so awesome and inspiring me to teach psychology (in which I use what I learned in his class for mine). I think he got a kick out of it. The best Pete's coffee around. While each chain store is just a chain store, and while staff does not set this place apart- this location has it all. The outside patio area is great, I've sat at other coffee patios and (especially at chains) they are not nearly as pleasant. The interior has everything I could want, minus the cool weather I think is intentionally pumped in to make people leave quicker. Staff is good, but not exceptional. Sitting on the patio with the summer sun is a real treat. The problem is with the homeless- it's the reason I can't give this place a 5 star review and am becoming scared to come here. There are homeless people (at least 2 if not more) who come in and stare me and others down while I'm trying to get some work done with coffee. One looked like he was gonna steal my laptop, and I held onto it unable to get work done until I decided to leave and come back. He was still there many hours later, though he switches seats (he seems to guard the patio and an area inside, shifting around never taking his stuff off the patio seat- god help you if you sit at "his" table. I wouldn't try it.) They mutter under their breath and you can hear things like "Kill him, fuck, stab, slurs, etc." Today my GF had an encounter with one of them who screamed the N word loudly into the ether... time to jet! Pretty sure the homeless encampment is getting the word that this place will tolerate them & give them what they need. I'm not mad at the workers or owner or anything- it's the police of CA who need to do something, but our laws have nerfed them- and slowly things will decay. Yay Califuckya! While not an outright deal breaker (You may get lucky, not have one of these lunatics' there at the same time as you, or miracle of miracles MAYBE one day the police will be allowed to arrest the soon to be looters), the homeless problem is becoming a BIG problem for this location. You can't enjoy a cup of joe, or get any work done if you're worried the guy across from you is going to yell "I'll fucking kill you N*****!" (direct quote, I was outside and booked it!) stab you, and take your laptop. Even if it's all just talk- it's alarming to put it lightly. If this problem resolves- 5/5 stars! If Commiefornia continues to get worse than this problem will, undoubtedly, not just affect this rating but the entire state. I hope it gets sorted out, aside from this massive problem this is a wonderful location. read more

I love this Peet's location. The baristas always have the best energy and it's just pleasant to grab a tea and chill out while getting some work done. Its Peet's so you're going to get standard Peet's goods, but the tea selection is varied and pretty good. I don't really drink too much coffee, but I've heard it's decent and better than the bux. I'm pretty serious about tea, though, but not super judgy, and I honestly think the tea is pretty dang good. It's not the complexity you'll get in flavors from a real teahouse, but it's perfect for a quick work session drink. Mainly I just like the vibe the baristas have here and the atmosphere is a little chiller than Verve or some of the local coffee places when you just need a place to get some work done and have a good drink. Verve can be a bit chaotic sometimes and there are always tables/seats here. It's a nice alternative is what I'm saying. If the manager or employees are reading this: keep up the energy, guys, I'm thankful for it! Your positivity is awesome. read more

I am so excited that they have Almond milk now. Make sure to check in with yelp and get $1 off your latte (or what ever the current deal is...) My one gripe is the lack of food. The competitor does have a nice array of sandwiches, salads... and I think Peets would easily be a 5 if I could get my food and drink on. It was just ok. We usually go to Starbucks but we were looking for a morning beverage near our hotel. We went in and asked about some of their specials and the baristas were very friendly. The downside was that we asked for a good drink without coffee for Brandon (because he hates coffee) and ended up getting a coffee drink anyway. Lucky me, I ended up with two beverages instead of one but we were disappointed that they didn't get B's order right... And my drink was just ok. I'll have to try a few more of the Peet's locations and maybe I'll figure out which beverages I like there. I do like that they have a lot of choices and a lot of different toppings and mix ins at their beverage station. I usually drink my coffee black, but it's cool to know if I wanted agave nectar instead of regular sugar that I could have it. read more

I am new in this town and needed coffee stat! I drove around, found this location. Seems to be the only visible coffee place around. I walked in, store was stocked and clean. The menu felt foreign, the baristas not at all approachable. I decided to go for the usual Vanilla Latte, I asked the guy who took my order to make it a "non-fat" latte since I'm lactose intolerant.... milk makes my stomach hurt badly and to my surprise I wasn't provided with no fat milk which sucks cause you can only imagine the weird noises my stomach was making as I'm working as an instructor to hundreds of ppl daily. And on top of the that the milk was over heated. This was embarrassing. I trusted the baristas and I was disappointed. Not to mention the plastic bagel and brand muffin I purchased along with my latte. Bad experience all around. Note to the Baristas who made my drink or possibly the guy who probably failed to take my order correctly, you ruined my day with one simple mistake! I strongly dislike you. Never again. read more

I have been going to the Peet's in Capitola for years and I have always really enjoyed the coffee, the employees and the setting---until today! My god, who did they hire for the interior decoration? It looks like a study hall with the cozyness of the past version completely overwhelmed by benches and chairs with no privacy or feelings of localness. We bought $40 of coffee and declined the free coffee. When changing our mind the barista was so rude and insisted we not only wait in line but also pay for it. When I asked they fill up o the half and half they took the container in the back but never returned with it until I asked someone else. Terrible service rude people!! I recently moved to Santa Cruz for school, where I'm from we don't have any Peet's nearby. I can't get enough of this stuff now, its so much better than Starbucks. Every interaction I've ever had at this Peet's coffee has been so pleasant! The employees are always so sweet and you can tell they actually care about what they're doing. You can tell their manager (I think he's the manager, tall friendly dude I've seen a few times) really cares about customer service. I asked for an "extra warm" drink, and it was made "extra hot." I immediately told the barista that the back of my mouth had been scalded. I have red blisters on the (back) roof of my mouth and am going to Urgent Care. The store was nearly empty and there was no rush when I went in. I got no apology. The barista seemed indifferent. Peet's is my new addiction. I find myself using the google search on my phone to search for locations all the time. I think I may need an intervention. I discovered this Peet's the other day after a long day of lifeguard training. Sadly, this is the closest location to Watsonville, so I will only be getting coffee here if I'm really desperate or on a drive home. This location seems to be brand new and is immaculate on the inside. It's also quiet and not super busy, so it would be a good place to study. The coffee here is good, which is typical of Peet's. The drinks have a robust, coffee flavor and are not sickeningly sweet. The iced caramel latte is my drug of choice and I have yet to have a bad one. read more
