I go to this Peet's probably around once a month (just too many coffee choices in the Rockridge BART area haha). I like that they finally have a mobile ordering feature, which is great when you want to order your drink quickly and head back out. I also like that this cafe is a little more chill and slightly less busy than the other nearby cafes. When you want to stay to chat with a friend, read or get some work done, it's usually easy to get a table or find a seat. Whether I order a regular drip coffee, or a latte or a mocha, the coffee has been strong, tastes great and wakes me up. The cashiers are also friendly, keep the place clean and maintain a relaxing environment. I wish they stayed open a little later though, I mean they're right across a Safeway that's open 24 hours, a bar that stays open really late (even the ice cream spot across the street is open longer). Still this is probably my favorite Peet's in the Berkeley/Oakland area. read more

I like to take the middle road between the local coffee shops I love and local and national chains that also make great coffee. I would love to see the Bay-area-born-and-based Peet's empire to extend (without compromising quality) so I can have my favorite brew on road trips, at airports, etc. I would love to see a Peet's option so I'm not force to go to Starbucks for (semi)decent espresso drinks. Peet's is so much better . . . It's nice to see a new location in this neighborhood - it's a clean, new, efficient coffee shop on a busy corner in an upscale neighborhood. Peet's coffee itself has never done anything in particular for me, but this location is a great one if you are looking for a place to do work remotely. The wifi is usually pretty reliable, and there seems to always be a comfortable place to sit with power. It has become my go-to spot when I work from home. read more

For the quality of the coffee, Peet's starts out at a five for me. Probably this location will creep up there, but after my first impression it will probably be a while before I come back. First...why would you open a new store with a whole staff of new employees? There are plenty of locations around Berkeley which could each donate a veteran Peetnik. From the cashier to the barista, the staff here were fumbling, making it quite a wait for my latte. There were problems with the register, and Peet's cards are not yet accepted. But here's the big subtle thing. I noticed last week that the Peet's on Telegraph took down their community bulletin board. So I'm hyper-vigilant here looking for a bulletin board. Nope. Nothing. Is this the sign that Peet's has crossed to the 1%? I think so, I think so...Alfred must be turning in his grave. read more

If I order a medium coffee, don't give me a small coffee in a medium cup! I drink my coffee black and don't need room for cream, and I hate it when they don't at least ask if I want room. I know many coffee shops are guilty of this, but this particular Peet's seems to do this frequently. I don't know whether it's a cost-cutting measure or what, but this just happened to me for the 7th time this month. I guess I need to start opening the lid at the counter before I walk away to make sure the cup isn't 1/4 empty. read more

Very nice little spot to stop, reflect and have a cuppa. The service was superb, the decor was relaxing with beautiful wood walls and large bay windows. The leather chairs were comfortable and I love that they keep a water dish outside for the animals. The classical music was the perfect background noise allowing one to both enjoy as well as lose ones self in their thoughts while reading. I was delightfully surprised by the gracious gesture of the barista when I brought back my double espresso that was simply too strong and bitter for me to consume. I asked if I could pay the difference to purchase one of the holiday drinks and she readily agreed to do so without accepting any payment. I had the cinnamon gingerbread latte with almond milk. Very relaxed atmosphere on that corner; they have shaded outdoor seating in front and on the side of the building; staff is nice, place is clean, they serve excellent coffee; neighborhood vibe is very positive; they're right on the boundary of Berkeley and Oakland; lots of beautiful Berkeley women walking by. read more

Love this Peet's, although parking is rather difficult if it's not Sunday and street parking is unavailable (really--is 90 feet of red curb necessary?) Never got on the Starbucks bandwagon at all...overpriced and far too crowded all the time. Became a convert upon my first visit to the Bay Area last year, and have been relatively hooked every time. And you really cannot get that delicious ham and cheese croissant anywhere...take that, 'Bucks. Peet's: Match point. Also a huge fan of the free Keurig samples they have outdoors on Saturdays sometimes (they even give you a K-Cup for the road...definitely have never seen Seattle's Finest do that type of customer service). read more

I usually like Peet's but this location is a little weird, at least for lattes. For some reason, when you order a drink half of it is just foam. At least that's how it was the last 2 weeks. Not sure if it was the same barista both times. The first time they were nice enough to make me a new one, but the 2nd time I didn't have time to ask, since I was on a time crunch. Well, it's a Peet's. Maybe it's no better than Starbucks, but I happen to like Peet's. This location is quite nice. When I feel like letting my high coffee standards down, this is where I go. Plenty of seating for the workaholics, with cushy armchairs and patio seating. Does feel a little bit dark inside, if you're used to the other coffee places in Rockridge like Cole Coffee and Spasso. Tip: the outdoor chairs have springy seats! Not much else to say, because Peet's (and I'm a sucker for their check-in offers :P). read more

My review is merely of this location, not of Peet's in general. I was mildly conflicted about a "chain" going in, in this area, although Peet's is the first best thing as a local company if you're going to have a chain. This is a fabulous location and is going to be my Peet's go-to. Light bright and of course brand spanking new and shiny with lots of outdoor seating. Nadia and her team at this fairly new Peets on College ave are a welcome addition to the neighborhood. After just dropping our daughter off for her 1st year of college and returning home weary & heavy hearted, it was so nice to get up and head to our favorite coffee spot. Having Nadia come out and bring us a treat for our pooch just made our morning and lifted our spirits! Of course the coffee is fabulous and I'm addicted to the new cold brew, and the large peaceful space with plenty of seating and nice outdoor tables with good people watching make it a top Peet's location. I love this Peet's! Each time I come here (usually a weekday morning before 8am), the staff is welcoming and friendly. Plus, their coffee is delicious! Shout out to the manager who is usually working those mornings. After wandering in I was surprised how friendly and happy the staff was with one hour to go until closing (normally staff can be ready to close up at that point). There is a Peet's coffee a block away from my house that I never go to, maybe because there are three other coffee shops before I would reach that one. The space is pretty and clean, w/ walls painted in warm earthtones, several tables and chairs and even a couple of easy chairs in the corner. We were surprised that the selection of teas available was not as extensive at the other Peet's locations I frequent, Solano or El Cerrito. Neither of my first two choices of tea was available, Pumphrey's Blend or the original Peet's Earl Grey w/ Lavender. I requested Lion Mountain Keemun and instead was given Dragonwell, a green tea, which I discovered when I went to pour it after it had steeped. Tam, being the darling daughter she is, took it back and got me the right tea, but the entire process of ordering and being given the wrong tea left me less than impressed w/ this location. read more

It all depends on the staff and who is working the shift when you're there. Usually there are absolutely nice people who try to make your beverages and stay as nice as possible. Tonight was different. Totally discomposed by the broken card machine they asked me to pay cash which I did. One of the three people went on a break. The other two got on the phone trying to reach someone to fix the problem. Meaning, one one the phone, the other staring at him. When the next customer came in and agreed to pay cash, her drink was made ready while I still waited for my coffee. And waited. And waited... It took forever and without explanation or apology I got a scorching hot cup and went out. Terrible. read more

I'm not a coffee snob. With Philz and Coles coffee and even Starbucks within a block from this Peets the options for a descent cup or coffee are numerous. This Peet's hands down is the worst Peet's I've ever been to. Service is fine, plenty of seating but their coffee not only tastes inconsistent every time you order the same thing but its usually tastes watered down. Also, I always order a large but I tend to get a medium sized amount of coffee, in the cup. With other options on the block, I won't be coming back. Way to f*ck it up guys. read more

A huge improvement over the old and dirty "A Cuppa Tea" that used to be in this location. New, clean, lots of tables and comfy chairs, free Wi-Fi, friendly staff. Everyone here are always nice but the only issue is the scattered manner of almost all the workers. Almost every time, the cashier seems to be stuck doing 4 different tasks while two people stand around. This place shouldn't even be considered a Peet's. Everything I have ordered is either way too sweet and/or the coffee itself tastes old or burnt or both. Nothing like the usually well balanced and crafted drinks I have ordered from almost every single Peet's I have been to in my entire life. I have always been a fan of Peet's and have always chosen it over Starbucks any day. But sometimes I would prefer to go to the Starbucks in the Safeway across the street instead. That's how low I feel this Peet's quality reflects. Thankfully there is still Cole Coffee and now Phil'z coffee here. I would not be surprised of this place goes out if business within the year. Best baristas ever: Tyler and Sterling! I went on a walk to the UPS store from campus and was super pooped when I got to Peet's. I was greeted by Sterling incredibly kindly at the register. She gave me a great recommendation of a black tea black tie! It was delicious, sweet and wonderful. I told her that I'm a gold member at Starbucks and told her what I liked and she was very knowledgeable about the Peet's menu. I was happy with her recommendation! While I was waiting for my drink, I started talking to the other barista working, Tyler (hope I spelled that correctly). He really helped make my experience great, he was working quickly and getting everyone their orders while still paying attention to me and making me feel welcomed in the store. We were talking about his favorite drinks and he told me about the new macchiato with honey in it. He made it sound so tasty that I bought one for myself! It was incredible! The Crème de la crème! Tyler and Sterling are both excellent baristas. Cheery and kind to every customer that I saw, but I still felt a personalized experience from them. I'm usually a Starbucks person, but this experience may have swayed me to join the peet's people! Delicious coffee and fantastic service! DO NOT GO TO THIS PEET'S COFFEE SHOP! I live in the neighborhood & go for coffee every day. The service and customer experience at this Peets has deterioated over the past 6 months to becoming the worst I have every experienced. Gaarrett McCarver (who says he is a manager when I asked for his supervisor) is one of the rudest, inexperienced, incompetent people I have ever experienced. I ordered three coffee's, Gaarett McCarver was not organized and very unprofessional with addressing a customer. I have witnessed him before being rude and short with other customers. This store has no concern for the current rules for social distancing. There is no tape on the sidewalk to ensure customers stay safe distances. I have gone to many stores to oder food and they all have safe social distancing using tape for customers to stand on. If the customer does not honor the social distancing they are asked to leave. However Peet's had none of this. Customers are packed next to each other when they order which is not safe. This Peet's is way out of line ! Bad Customer Service, No respect to social distancing and this Manager is not a people person, he is disrepectable to customers. STAY AWAY! There are plenty of other coffee shops that are much better and care about their customers. read more

This is hands down my favorite Peets in the Berkeley area. There is a good amount of seating, and the staff is wonderful. After ordering my pot of tea, the staff would periodically ask if I needed hot water refills, which is something I've never experienced at other Peets locations. On Mondays there is also a jazz band that plays from 5-7pm which sets a great mood for studying or doing work. read more
