This is a solid Peet's with a nice little outdoor seating right on College. I mean the coffee and tea are kind of generic, at this point, but my friend who I walk with loves pre-ordering on their app, and it tends to be ready fairly quickly. Overall, a little dated, but a solid little spot. There is an independent coffee shop down the street a few storefronts, but again, Peet's serves a purpose! read more

I like this Peets coffee! The employees are friendly and helpful the drinks are standard Peets. I am a huge black tie girl! The inside is a bit small and can get packed but the patio is a nice place to sit especially in the busy neighborhood of rockridge! read more

Food: Peet's standard. Service: very good. Ambiance, less so. Cold air blows on people sitting at the tables in the early mornings and throughout the day--when outside temperatures are below 60 degrees f. The reason given from Peet's Central is keeping the temperature in the office and storage areas comfortable for Peet's staff. Even Peet's counter people wear additional layers. Who pays for staff salaries and store profits? Customers sitting at the tables. Also: every electric outlet in the store is worn out. Apple A/C adapters fall out of the outlets. This was pointed out in a communication to Peet's some months ago. Peet's said it would be corrected with new outlets in a timely fashion. This has not occurred, so Apple users should bring either the dedicated six-foot extension cord or a power strip if planning on studying or working at this store. read more

Peet's is alright with the young people working there, but there's an old guy wearing a tweed golfer's cap who speaks with a british accent also working there. This old man has the worst attitude of anyone working at the College Avenue Peet's. He'll look down his nose at you with a condescending and holier-than-thou attitude. The drinks that he makes are so watered down it's not even funny. By the way, his name is Az. Apparently the second "z" fell off the end of his nametag. If you're reading this, Azz, it won't hurt your face to crack a smile. Practice this. Cheerio! read more

Very understaffed so a long wait and mobile orders taking precedence. While I stood in line for over 5 minutes at least 6 mobile orders went out the door. I wanted a pound of ground coffee, and it took at least 15 minutes to get it from standing in line two order to picking it up. If you are going to have a mobile order business you need to have a dedicated staff person so that when I'm there in person I am not virtually standing in line with a couple dozen other people. read more

The last couple times I've gone in here to order my drink, cashier always friendly and everything it's the person who's making the drink and I don't know who the guys name is or anything like that but he's made my drink such a mess and it's not even such a bad thing. It's the fact that he's in a rush, so be it, but there's no rush. There's no nothing it's he takes his time and makes it dripping all over the place. It's just a huge dripping mess and it's sticky :( read more

We had parked across the street on our way to a nearby bakery. Having a Peets' so nearby was convenient as we needed coffee to drink. We placed our orders on the phone application and made our way across the street. The pick-up spot for orders was just across from the doorway which was both convenient and inconvenient at the same time. It made it easy to find our order when it was ready. It also added to the confusion when other guests walked in the door and couldn't tell who was waiting to order and who was simply waiting. One young man put an order on the pick-up station, calling out the customers name. The customer picked up her drink and quite clearly said, "thank you" as the employee turned and walked away. Yes, it was a bit busy but not so much that it excused being less than courteous. When our order came up, the barista had several drinks lined up and was checking them before putting them up for pick-up. She put up our two drinks withour calling our names or making eye contact. When employees wonder why customers are rude and impersonal, they need to look in the mirror. Having been a Peet's customer for over 40 years and a former shareholder, I long for the days when servers not only knew their customers but also their orders as soon as they walked in the door. read more

Met with my mom here to finally enjoy our favorite Fall drink thee pumpkin latté! We were overly excited that fall flavors are finally in season and our latte's did not disappoint us. The cashier and the barista both had great customer service. Plus our latte's were perfection, the perfect blend. Since we substitute with almond milk it can be a bit overpowering in latte's, but this was not the case during our visit. We will be back for more (: read more

Peet's Coffee - Afternoon pick me up - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Berkeley, California

My favorite East Bay cafes for working during lockdown - #5, Peet's This branch of Peet's was a nice space when you could sit indoors and gaze out the window instead of working. It's a little lower on my list during lockdown because the outdoor seating is pretty exposed to the speed racers and grumpy rich farts tooting their horns on College Ave. Still, it has several things to recommend it at the moment. The manager has been kind to, or helped people in various ways while I've been there and the atmosphere is pretty good (friends had issues with previous managers). He also introduced some work-arounds that allowed people to bring their own mugs. This should be done everywhere by now - even at the height of the pandemic, Covid wasn't being transmitted through touching surfaces to any significant extent. The other thing I like about Peet's right now is the Everything Plant-Based Sandwich that was recently introduced. It's a sausage patty from Beyond Meat, combined with JUST vegan egg and vegan cheddar, all on a thin everything bagel. I don't quite understand why coffee chains have been so slow to introduce vegan products. Starbucks introduced an Impossible Breakfast Sandwich that was a confusing combination of a vegan patty from Impossible Foods with real eggs and cheese. It seems weird that they didn't make it fully vegan - I guess it's just a result of cold-hearted market analysis. Anyhoo - I'm glad that Peet's has introduced this item and I have to say that it's pretty good. Beyond Meat makes the best meat substitutes right now, in my opinion, and also one of the most ethical options. I've been trying a lot of plant-based products at home and review them on my new site www.ethcialbargains.org. This was my first time trying JUST's vegan egg and I really like it - it's very similar to a chicken egg. Coffee and Wi-Fi are both consistent. I'm also giving the Peet's 3.5 out of 5 "Green Stars" for social and environmental impact, based on this: · Reasonable selection of vegetarian items and now one good vegan sandwich and a vegan brownie. · Beyond Meat (who makes the Everything Plant-Based sandwich patty) rates highly in my book (4.5 Green Stars) · This Peet's branch allows customers to bring their own coffee mugs again & gives a 25 cent discount for using one. · Peet's disposable cups and lids are now both compostable. This helps quite a bit in terms of waste sorting, because everything can go into the compost bin. Let's face it, at many coffee places (hello, Starbucks!) customers' trash pretty much ends up in random bins. It would require a long discussion but I think compostable lids + cups are the best option (after ceramic or bringing yer own mug) · I appreciate that Peet's always had a policy where they'd give you your drink without a lid, allowing you to choose whether or not you needed that piece of plastic to cover your drink for 10 minutes. · Peet's main coffee roastery in Alameda is certified LEED Gold- the first in the US. (LEED = Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) · Peet's have been a bit better than other US chains (Starbucks, Philz) at introducing coffee that's organic, songbird friendly, or processed by the natural method, etc. · Las Hermanas blend is "100% women-produced, Fair Trade certified." Burundi Turashobora is also women-produced. In 2019, Peet's helped establish the Women's Center for Entrepreneurship for women coffee famers in Columbia. · Peet's has now merged with Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE) and the joint venture had its IPO in 2020 on the Euronext Amsterdam stock exchange. JDE scores poorly for ethics, for example on Ethical Consumer. · Peet's sells coffee pods (and JDE sells two machines that use pods), encouraging plastic waste. · Peet's doesn't reports enough on social and environmental impact (e.g., coffee pricing) for a company of this size. So a mixed bag from Peet's: Better than Starbucks or Philz but not as good as many local spots. Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, please check out the Green Stars Project. read more

For some inexplicable AI reason, searching "tea" does not bring up Peet's in the results other than under sponsored. (And it shouldn't be because the Berkeley-founded chain bought an ad -- One Plus has a sponsored ad and shows up in results). Pretty much the only thing I get at Peet's is matcha because --unlike most chains they pre-add sugar to what had originally been a ceremonial tea powder meant to have that bitterness -- they do it right (although at times I do have to ask for extra shot). So, just to goose the AI: tea matcha tea tea tea tea match tea tea tea matcha tea matcha tea tea tea tea match tea tea tea matcha tea matcha tea tea tea tea match tea tea tea matcha tea matcha tea tea tea tea match tea tea tea matcha tea... ... and it didn't work. Pretty good coffee spot, especially if you want to escape the Philz rush. A little small but not too bad.

I usually have quite a boring and low carb/high protein breakfast because let's face it... I wanna save all of my calories for lunch or dinner. But every now and then, that chai tea latte gets to calling my name and ooohhh baby, I just can't resist the fixin' I get for it. I'm not a coffee girl at all... which is why you'll rarely see me at a coffee shop. But, every once in a while I need a pick me up. I can probably count the number of times that I've been to Pete's this year on one hand... and the only reason why I went initially was because one of my clients gave me a "free small coffee" card. So, off I went to explore the Pete's down the street. When I arrived, there was a line of what seemed to be their usual morning rush. The lined moved really quickly however, and my eyes got stuck on all of the holiday pastries and cute Christmas decorations. When I got to the register, I put in my difficult order... you know, those picky employees who want non-fat this and double shot that with a skinny this and blah blah. I figured that the people working there would know what I was talking about. Lo and behold, the cashier who helped me knew exactly what I was talking about. His name was Chuck. He greeted me with warm eyes and even asked me how to spell my name. I know that the spelling of a name might not be significant to some people. But for someone who rarely goes into coffee shops and who's name is always misspelled on Starbucks cups, it can mean a world of a difference. It shows that people actually care about service and consistency and it makes people feel like their business is truly appreciated. In the line of work that I do, this is extremely important. Chuck took his time to make sure that he got my order right and HE even called out my name when my order was ready. He wished me a happy holiday and told me to come back again next time. I went into Pete'a thinking that I would probably never go back again... just wanted to use that free coffee card and wait until I got another one to POSSIBLY go back. This morning, I walked down the street. I passed Spasso's, Cole Coffee, Philz, AND Starbucks... JUST to get the same service that I got a few weeks ago at Pete's. Thank you Chuck and the rest of the Pete's staff for exuding wonderful customer service! And yes... I will be back again soon :). read more

Preordered 5 drinks on their website and went in to pick it up in person. Order said pick up at 3:05pm, and I got there at 3:04pm. As soon as it ticked 3:05pm, the barista was finishing up on the last drink and set it on a togo tray. Wow! Talk about great service and timing! Never had that experience. Coffees were still hot when we brought them back home 5 mins away. Only criticism is that there were no stoppers on the coffee cups so when my fiancé hit a little bump, some coffee got on my pants. Not sure if the barista is supposed to put those on or me, but in any case it wasn't mentioned when I picked up my order. Great coffee. Everyone liked their choices. It's a well-established local chain that tends to take on the ambiance of the neighborhood and clientele; the drinks are great; I've only had the almond croissant and it was good. but the staff is always friendly and very accommodating. Feel like this Peet's has been inconsistent lately. Sometimes the wait for online orders is crazy long. Like 25-30 mins from when I put in the order. Also, I've ordered Vanilla Lattes from the app and they didn't have any vanilla in it (multiple times now; and the syrups cost extra!). I think I'd be better off ordering a regular latte with added vanilla so it's clear to the baristas to put some vanilla in it. This is my neighborhood coffee spot so I'll keep going here, but the experience lately isn't what I expect from Peet's. read more

People who arrived after me, got their drink before me. I ordered a vanilla frap via mobile order and this is what I got - a quarter of it is foam and it's incredibly runny (might as well have been an iced vanilla latte). I'm a regular at this location (because my friends go there). These crtiques are meant for improvement, if anyone at Peet's is taking note: 1. Constant rock music. Please. Especially in the morning. Numerous customers dislike it. Shrill and loud. Christ..... 2. Cold air blowing on customes. A multi-million dollar company can afford better environmental management. 3. Dark walls make the space smaller. The recent (7/2019) internior rennovation made changes seemingly for the sake of change: dark walls, rectangular outside tables that are harder to manage chairs around. It also removed the gorgeous old tapestries in favor of outsized corporate theme ads. More corporate equals less human. read more

This is the worst Peets coffee I have ever been to I live in the neighborhood and will never go back there again. Most of the employees act like they don't like you very RUDE I just got a ice latte with sugar free vanilla and I had to dump it because they put in regular vanilla and it tasted nasty and I believe it was on purpose and it said sugar free. Very unfortunate for Peets to have a store like this peeves management should fire everyone in this store and have people that represent their company in a good way please fire this staff and bring back a good Peets coffee to our neighborhood. Things have gone downhill here the past few years. I get it, skilled and reliable staff are hard to recruit and retain. There used to be store managers who were totally on top of everything, but now... I've had several orders of ground beans come back light, maybe 3/4 or 7/8 of a pound. How hard is it to weight out a full pound and make sure it all gets through the grinder and into the bag? I have NO issue with the quality of the ground or brewed coffee, it's always been perfetto. The espresso drinks are usually incorrect. They frequently leave Ingredients out, use the wrong ingredients, and are rude if you ask them to make a drink again. I wanna give this location 5 stars and 1 star. 5 because 99% of the staff are fantastic and the beverages are superb. 1 because the early morning manager Justin is consistently rude and sharp, basically rolling his eyes at any questions. Best baristas ever: Glena and Hannah!!! I went on a jog to trader joe's from campus and was super pooped when i got to Peet's. I was greeted by Hannah very kindly at the register. She gave me a great recommendation of a white mocha blended drink! It was delicious, sweet and wonderful. I told her that i usually go to Starbucks and told her what i like and she was very knowledgeable about the Peet's menu. I'm happy with her recommendation! While I was waiting for my drink, i started talking to the other barista working, Glenna (hope i'm spelling that correctly). She really helped make my experience great, she was working quickly and getting everyone their orders while still paying attention to me and making me feel welcomed in the store. We were talking about her favorite drinks and she told me about the new espresso shot with sweetened condensed milk in it. She made it sound so tasty that i bought one for myself! And it was!!! I really liked it a lot! Hannah and Glenna are both excellent baristas. Cheery and kind to every customer that I saw, but i still felt a personalized experience from them. I used to love this coffee very much coz it's close to my work. However, the male Barista/ cashier who is kind of rude and lack of basic knowledge about food hygiene. He used his bare hand to get rid of the price tag out of the bagel that I ordered without wearing any glove. God knows where his hand has been to, I asked him to take the bottom one and he said "that's how we do thing!" So you touch customers' food with you dirty hand not only collecting the cash but also touching every corner of the store which could potentially make your customers sick. Ok, Ok...I'll let you in on my secret. The key is arriving before 9am. After that, all the Rockridgettes begin assembling for book club, or to meet with their interior designers, or to buy organic soy steamers for their montessori toddlers. But if you arrive before then, you can grab a nice comfy table facing out to College Ave, hook up to an outlet (they're surprisingly abundant) and start to tackle whatever project is looming. It's become my new morning place, and always kicks the day off on a happy note (with help from a spicy loose leaf chai and low-fat blueberry-banana muffin). The ambiance is reliably soothing and prime for productivity: there's always classical music playing, free wifi, and cheery baristas. Also, since the neighborhood is more saturated with families than students, there always seems to be a free table to snag. Yes, parking is a downer, as there's a 2 hour limit on the side streets and metered parking along College. But, a couple hours goes a long way here and I savor every minute of it. read more

This is a new location for Peet's which means the tea selection is incredibly limited. This also means that the employee who was helping me was not well versed in either tea, or listening as the black tea I ordered for Toni turned into a green tea when she poured it from the pot into the mug. When I went up to return the incorrect tea for the correct kind, the young guy who helped "fix" the error, joked that at least the original person chose an animal(I ordered the Lion Keemun and was given a Dragon something or other). Of course I was already a bit preterbed and retorted one was a "real" animal, one a "fictitious" one...No offer to comp a free beverage for the mess up/nothing. I have been to Peet's locations all over. North Bay to South Bay to Southern California, even in the Houston Hobby Airport. I used to mail order Peet's back in the day when I lived in Phoenix-before the interwebs and before Peet's went public and started putting their beans in the grocery store. This location has hosted several other coffee/tea places. It is a location where people sit for long periods of time to do homework, blog, write books, etc. It does have one unisex bathroom that you don't have to ask for a key to. I am sure this will be a successful Peet's but had I not been with Toni, I may have gone over to Cole's as Peet's is Peet's and aside from the company, this location doesn't quite do it for me. read more
