I am writing as a…read morewitness to share how the front desk experience with receptionist Teresa, has been consistently unprofessional and inappropriate. On multiple occasions, Teresa ignored us at check-in and check-out because she was talking on her personal phone or sometimes because she is chatting with others. She always makes us wait without acknowledgment, and when we did approach the desk, she was visibly irritated and made rude facial expressions. Worse, Teresa is always spoking loudly about other clients and their children, mocking and making disrespectful comments where everyone could hear. She was even talking incredibly loud about her own personal matters, including how she's having a baby, getting tax money, and was being mad because her baby's father gives money to his other child's mother -- all conversations we can hear in the waiting room. The last incident was especially upsetting: she openly gossiped about my niece, and her parents by name to another staff member while we were sitting right there. This made us feel disrespected and humiliated in a place where families should feel supported and safe. I want to make it clear that this type of unprofessional conduct will cost you clients and money. Families will refuse to come to a place where they feel mocked, disrespected, and gossiped about. As Kaiser members, we have already filed formal complaints about this establishment, and we sincerely hope you take immediate action before more families choose to leave for good.

My mom depends on safe ride through her insurance it's the only reason that this place is too far and it's the only place that it's in her network through her insurance for physical therapy ...She just has a procedure done last week and was told not to do anything strain strenuous for a week . This place does don't care about patient's or the well-being. I do not recommend this place. To cancel all of her appointments and refuse to give her therapy because she missed a couple of appointments due to health problems.

Prior to South Coast Therapy, we really struggled finding a…read moretherapist that understood how to work with my son due to his escape behaviors (eloping) and sensory challenges. We tried several places and were getting nowhere with his therapy. He was even "let go" from a few places because they couldn't figure out how to get him to cooperate! It was unbelievable and I was so discouraged. Finally, we discovered South Coast Therapy. What a difference! There was no threat of "letting him go" due to non-compliance in any of their paperwork or sign up protocol and they were extremely supportive of his needs! After meeting Grace for OT the first time, I knew that she not only cared about what she was doing and about him, but she had the correct tools and techniques to help regulate him and motivate him to work/play! At this center, you get a scheduled time and get to see the same therapist (I know some places, don't provide a slot and you have to keep calling or you get different therapists or assistants to the therapist) at each appointment. This is HUGE for kids like my son who need routine and relationship to move forward. The less change the better when it comes to his therapy! However, if you have to reschedule or if they don't have a standing appt. at start up, they are great at helping you find a day and time that will work and ALL of their therapists are just as well trained and efficient in getting through the behaviors. We have been there for 5 years now and my son is thriving! He is learning life skills such as how to brush and floss his teeth, put on his shoes, bathe, zip up a zipper, close and open a button and so much more. The best part is...he LOVES going and he loves Ms. Grace! If you have a child that has been getting nowhere in their therapy or is being "tolerated" rather than loved, seen, and cared for... you have found your new therapy center! Your child will learn to do things here and get past the difficult times! You will not be disappointed!

He thrives here. He's made so much progress with both gross motor skills and occupational skills! He gets physical therapy from Byn and Jonathan who are the best!!! Both of them are so good with my son and have really helped him improve! He loves them and is always asking to go "play" with Byn and Jonathan! He also gets occupational therapy from Ms.Patty, who is also so great! She is really sweet and has helped my son grow so much! The office staff is Also so responsive and helpful! I can't recommend Apple Tree enough! The staff there have helped my son immensely and they are all…read moreso nice and patient with him. He came in with a speech delay and no real social connection to anyone other than immediate relatives, but he's come to love it there. He actually gets excited to go and see his teachers and has memorized all the songs they sing to him. He even transitions from one activity to the next without major meltdowns as he used to. We previously tried a different speech and learning center and my son would dread going. He would have outbursts in the waiting room and not want to participate (even though the staff there seemed just as nice). But there's something about Apple Tree's structure, environment, and teaching methods that really resonate with him. They even have a parent coach and send out newsletters with helpful information that makes navigating a child with delays seem a little less daunting. Plus being able to be in the classroom with him to see him interacting and learning new techniques to manage stressful situations has helped all of us. On top of all that, we started this going to Apple Tree in the middle of COVID, and yet the precautions they take make me comfortable enough to send my 2yo there. All the teachers and therapists there seem to really enjoy what they do and it shows in the improvements my son has made.

When we came last January for a trial day I knew that we would have substantial challenges moving into a classroom setting. Our son was diagnosed at an early age and does have severe symptoms, as well as being non verbal. But after spending the last four years with various agencies in the DTT model at home, we were ready for a change. After our intake assessment, it was clear that our son wasn't ready for a classroom setting. So instead they made the offer for us to access the clinic for ABA and push into the Academy over time. He's really blossomed in this model. He's totally acclimated to the classroom now, and will be moving into the classroom full time soon. Any complaints I've had have been met with solutions and if there was a problem they could not solve they referred me to someone who could. Mr. Sam and Karlie are great teachers, and the classroom is amazing. Music therapy is twice a week and they have clinics for OT and speech. Once a month there are Saturday camps, and Friday evening camps as well. These don't have an additional cost except for siblings and as long as you have therapy hours available. Holiday events have been so much fun! The school doesn't require verbal only like every other competitor in the area that refuses to serve any other population other than tier 1 verbal kids. So that was a huge plus for us. The program is year round. Overall we are really satisfied, and look forward to the 2019-2020 school year.

I would like to counter the negative review listed recently . The ABA industry as a whole has this…read moreissue because it is unbelievable the work it takes to get funding. The driving and the distances to family homes often precludes a substitute if a session is cancelled last minute. (Especially in a county as huge as LA) Parents also commonly have to cancel at the last minute . What company has someone on standby to drive an hour to do a session that may not even work on the child's needs because they are not part of that case? Most parents would prefer someone they know to do these sessions , not some random other employee. What parent wants a sick therapist bringing germs into their home? I know from personal experience that Yvonne Bruinsma and her staff genuinely care about these kids. She isn't doing this to make money. She's doing it to change lives and finds her purpose in serving ,as do most of her staff.
