I've tried various PTs through my insurance, but this is the first time I invested in PT out of pocket, and it was absolutely worth it. I felt like my body was twisted and unbalanced, but the PTs covered by my insurance weren't able to help me until the issue I had been expressing eventually led to a severe injury where I couldn't walk for about five days. The PTs would give me exercises that I could have easily found through ChatGPT or a simple Google search, and then send me to an aide. When I had questions, the aides often didn't know the answers. They gave me A LOT of at home exercises, almost a quantity over quality, hoping one works. Then I found Dr. Gary! He is very different from a typical PT. He listens carefully to all of my issues (pain and discomfort seemingly everywhere. I'm sure I sound like a hypochondriac ), and then gives me some really odd exercises that I would never have found on my own. Somehow, I always feel better afterward. He goes all the way down to the basics, even teaching me how to breathe to properly engage my core, when to breathe during an exercise, and exactly where I should be feeling each movement. It's not just "here are some exercises, go do them." He makes sure I understand why I'm doing them and what I should be feeling. He also consistently remembers to send me my homework, often with videos. With the other PTs I tried, I had to repeatedly hunt them down to get my exercises, so I ended up having to rely on memory. Dr. Gary also responds to my questions between sessions if I'm unsure about an exercise, which has been incredibly helpful in making sure I'm doing things correctly. What I appreciate most is how much he genuinely cares about learning and thinking critically. I can tell he is constantly processing what he's seeing and what I'm telling him during our sessions and trying to figure out the root cause of what's going on. He tests and retests his hypotheses until my body gives him feedback that he's on the right track. I'm incredibly thankful for Dr. Gary and the care he puts into his work. If you're dealing with something that feels "off" in your body, I truly believe your health is worth the investment. We first went to see Dr. Gary for my daughter who had a stubborn knee pain, Dr. Gary was genuinely searching to find the root cause, did some test and gave her a serious of home exercises which helped tremendously and eventually no more pain. Dr. Gary is the closest to an actual wizard you will ever meet in your life. You know in Dr. Strange where that one dude was paralyzed and went to Kamartaj to find healing? I bet he actually went to Dr. Gary. I was also lost and in need of healing. I tore my calf from muay thai and also considered going to Nepal to find mystic healing, but I don't have surgeon-level money. So instead, I found Dr. Gary on yelp. This guy is extremely thorough. Before him, I would use online videos to try to PT myself, but in one evaluation, he told me the root cause of my issue, steps to get it better, and a great exercise list that helped strengthen the calf, rehabilitate it, and address the underlying issues that caused it. I did 5 sessions with Dr. Gary and my calf feels amazing. I also on passing asked about wrist injuries that I had for years because of hitting the heavy bag too hard and he gave me one workout that really fixed that up. How does he do that? One exercise? First of all, Having a BACK PAIN is not fun at all. I have the problem most likely over 10years. (I am 42years old, no chronic health issue pretty healthy. No over or underweight) Some times it was worse or worst.. family Drs gave me muscle relaxants pain killers and steroids. And referred to physical therapy. This time about 3weeks ago I was just picking up my pants and my back had 10/10 pressure pain. Worst pain I ever had this time. Family Dr gave me same medications again. I've been dealing with some lower back pain and slight discomfort in my hamstring area. I initially thought it would go away on its own, but after a couple of months, it didn't seem to get any better. I was a patient earlier this year at LPI Orange County and worked with Dr. Gary Chen. The experience was a 100% positive and I cannot recommend him enough. I had been plagued by sharp shoulder and arm pain for well over a year. I consulted other professionals and everyone misdiagnosed my condition or gave me recommendations that made no difference. Dr Gary is exactly who you want when looking for a PT. He is incredibly thoughtful when it comes to programming, organized, data led, patient, does whatever is necessary to get you back into the activities you enjoy most. I spent close to 6 months with him and can say as of today -- back to normal. I came in for an ambiguous discomfort in my knee from running -- a numbing sensation right below the knee cap. No true injury involved, however to diagnose and treat a "sensation" with no actual structural or muscular damage is not easy. Dr Gary went to work, constantly measuring progress, looking for ways to provoke, and integrating different methods training. First time walking in this organized and well lit place, Gary was extremely welcoming and also approachable. Gary evaluated what exercise and mobility to use just by doing a few tests. The man definitely know what he's doing, for after the session I left the place with more knowledge on my injury and what to do with em. He definitely took care of the problem in no time.
