We've been coming to OC Speech Services for over a year now, and I'm so thankful we found them. My son receives both OT and speech therapy here, and it's been amazing to see how much he's grown since starting. We've had the opportunity to work with several wonderful therapists, and we're grateful for all of them. Arianna has been an amazing speech therapist for our daughter, Lucille. Over the past two years, Lucille has gone from using very few understandable words and struggling to produce many speech sounds correctly to speaking in full sentences, asking and answering questions, following conversations, and expressing her needs much more clearly. Her speech intelligibility has improved tremendously, and her confidence has grown along with it. We have been with OCSS since my son first received his ASD diagnosis in spring 2021. The facility itself takes up the entire fourth floor of the Credit Union building on Edinger across from Bella terra. Each therapist has a room and the children can either spend time in said room or use the two gyms that are full of toys and play equipment (Lots of swings, slides, playhouse, climbing wall, crash pad, etc.). Both gyms are very clean and well maintained. They also have a nice kid friendly kitchen! Since we have been here for some time, we have had an opportunity to work with many speech and occupational therapists as well as the admin. Everyone here is very kind and knowledgeable in their field, generously offering tips and advice when I ask 100 questions. My son's schedule is packed, so when I need to reschedule, administration is very friendly and helps find a way to make our make-up appointments work for us. We have been with our current and absolutely amazing Occupational Therapist, Brenda, since day 1. She is a miracle worker when it comes to my son's food aversions- getting him to taste things he would normally throw at the wall. He is always super excited on Friday when I grab him from school since he knows hes going to see his "ms. Brenda". She is truly a key figure on my son's care team. We started speech services about a year ago at OCSS and my son's therapist, Claire, is extremely knowledgeable in Gestalt language processing. We just learned that my son is a Gestalt learner before we switched to OCSS and we are so thankful he was paired with someone with the expertise and knowledge that Claire has. She meets him right where he is that day and lets him lead which is so important for our son since he is a little unpredictable. He adores his time with her, and asks for her by name even on days we're not going to OCSS. We are so fortunate to have spent the past 2 years working the therapists at Orange County Speech Services. They are very skilled in working with children with a wide range of needs. They are overall very creative in developing therapeutic plans to meet our shared goals and open to parent and family input. They truly care for the children that they work with. Over the past 2 years, our son worked with various therapists from PT, OT, speech therapy, and behavioral therapy with both regional center funding and through medical insurance. Our son initially started with significant developmental delays, but now he has more than caught up in almost every area. Our son worked the most with Ms Ruth (ST), Ms. Kelly (ST), Ms. Ariana (OT), Ms. Brenda (OT), Ms. Dana (PT), and Ms. Tori (behavioral therapy). We have had a great experience with therapists our son worked with regularly as well as those not listed that covered on vacations. They are the best. Ms. Ruth and Ms. Kelly helped so much in expanding his communication skills. He started severely delayed in all aspects of communication, and he now can speak up to 7-8 word sentences clearly and understand others. With our son's complicated medical situation, we require a significant amount of assistance and input from OT. We especially appreciate our time with Ms. Ariana and Ms. Brenda, who helped so much in teaching our son to be independent in the day to day self care activities. We really appreciated the many helpful emails from Ms. Ariana with ideas, links to videos, therapy items, educational information, and worksheets to use at home, so we can continue therapy at home in between sessions. The billing situation can be confusing if your child utilizes a lot of therapy session in a week. That in part might be due to insurance processing claims not necessarily in a chronological order. This review focuses on the operations of the Behavior Department at OCSS, under the direction of the owner, Elizabeth M. ABA Department: Our family has been with OCSS for six years. We were recently informed--via a 30 day notice--that as of 02/13/2026, the ABA Department will only provide services to children 10 years old and under. There was no prior discussion, warning, or indication that our child would eventually age out of their ABA services. The discontinuation was handled abruptly and felt very much like a cold turkey decision. While I appreciate the organization's honesty in acknowledging its lack of competency (staffing configuration, implementation model, and clinical environment) to effectively serve children over age 10--and their decision not to "bite off more than they can chew"--the execution was unprofessional and lacking compassion. In reality, the waitlist for ABA services elsewhere is not 30 days, but closer to 6 months to a year. A lapse in ABA services for that length of time can be detrimental to a child's physical and emotional well being and significantly increase the risk of regression. Billing: OCSS has outsourced billing to a third party company, and unfortunately, data integrity has been inconsistent. If you stay vigilant--reviewing every charge and checking all EOBs (Explanations of Benefits) through your insurance--you may be fine. However, anyone who takes the time to carefully review claims may uncover discrepancies. I have personally received a refund check in the past, and I am currently disputing the last 18 months of billing charges to correct the records. Other Departments: Our experience with Speech Therapy (ST) and Occupational Therapy (OT) has been more positive. Billing for these departments is more straightforward, with less room for errors. For now, my child will continue with Speech Therapy via telehealth, as he enjoys and responds well to his therapist. Summary: I used to read the lower rated reviews with a grain of salt, choosing to believe in the best of people. After our overall experience, however, I can understand where those reviews are coming from and see some truth in them. Hence, I am filing a formal grievance against OCSS in the hope that this feedback encourages meaningful reflection on their business operations. My intent is not only to share our experience, but also to promote improvements in communication, compassion, and continuity of care for other families navigating similar challenges. Closing: Things happen for a reason. When one door closes, another opens. In hindsight, I'm glad OCSS forced us to look elsewhere. My kiddo has been going to OCSS for 3 years now. He started off shy, didn't talk, and refused to participate in session. He knew three or fours and low pronouns and vocabulary words. With the help and knowledge of his speech therapist Mrs.Katie, I have learned that he is a level 3 GLP learner. She gave me an understanding on how he processes things in his daily life. She goes above and beyond with being flexible (telehealth, make-ups, reschedule) in my busy schedule. My child also receives Occupational Therapy, for a little over 1 year. For his evaluations, they set his goals accordingly to his particular needs. For instance, the sensations of being about to wash his face, teeth and hair. Eating different textures of fruits and vegetables. They report back on goals that have worked on and to try it at home so he doesn't lose that momentum. As a parent, I feel safe he is in their care. In my experience, i like how his one-on-ones are always in arms reach and by his side in any given situation to assist. For over a year now, my 3-year-old autistic twins have been coming to Orange County Speech for occupational therapy. One is an extreme picky eater with some motor delays. He has been with miss Hollie from the start and we LOVE her. He has made so much progress. The other is a picky eater but also has a ton of sensory needs. Miss Mary is his occupational therapist and has come up with all kinds of creative strategies to get the wiggles out and maybe eat a vegetable. This year they both started physical therapy with Kim and Dana. There is no doubt that the "big gym" is the highlight of their week. Last month, the boys started speech with CJ and Dana. It's sad because I really LOVE the people here, but it's awful to make-up for any missing hours.. you can't miss too much time here or they'll remove you from this location, which is very understandable. But when my son was on his summer vacation for a month, I advised the staff a month before it to make up time, I didn't get a call back (i spoke to the front office and the therapist numerous times to make up time), and the same happened two weeks before my sons winter break. No one called me or Messaged me back, even letting them know that I'm open for ANY therapist so My son can make up his hours. I feel like I'm bothering them if I keep calling so I didn't do that. Like I said, the staff are very sweet, but I would be upset if we get removed from the location due to their lack of help. Our old therapist was amazing. Beware! Do not use this center! We wasted 2 years with them. Not only are they constantly misbilling, and committing insurance fraud, and worse, they mistreated and borderline abused my Autistic son. My son's behaviors increasingly got worse and worse, to the point of extreme aggression and self injurious behaviors (the lat year was a nightmare). He will be 6 next month. I had to quit my job and stay home with my son since my Mom could no longer even handle him due to his increased behaviors. I demanded to sit in on all sessions to get to the bottom of what was happening, and it was 2.5 hours of wasted time. Not only did they cycle through inappropriately aged toys (2 wood puzzles and Mr. Potato head) on repeat for the entire session the same day, but they also kept him in a very small back room with no windows for 2 hours (most of the days session). I was even claustrophobic and there was hardly any room for even me to sit in. They required a BCBA to accompany the entire ABA session due to how physical he got (more money for them), and when he would get self injurious and aggressive the BCBA (Melissa Ault) would tell the therapist to push up against the underside of his nose really hard to stop him from biting, or grab his wrist and put pressure and slightly twist in such a way that both would cause him major discomfort so he would let go of the hair pull or bite release). Like what?! I was in shock. After a couple sessions I asked them to back off and let me lead. She even mentioned that she would really work hard with her toddler daughter and panic if she ever saw signs of Autism, as she said there is no way she was going to let her own kid have Autism (said it right in front of me). They constantly leaned on me for how to handle him. After some weeks of observing these disgusting physical behaviors from them, I stopped taking Everett for 1-2 weeks and sent them an email questioning the small room and cycling of inappropriate age level toys, and within a few days, they sent us an email telling us they were immediately discontinuing services due to Everett's severe behaviors and their inability to staff his session. This was total BS. They had no issue taking our money for 2 years, until I questioned their methods. Immediately after leaving that horrible center, Everetts behaviors significantly improved. Like day and night. His aggression and self injurious behaviors decreased by 75% at least right away. I was blown away. That itself proved how horrible they were for him. I'm heartbroken for my son and the borderline abuse he was dealing with there. I can't even imagine what he went through when I wasn't sitting in on sessions. He cries when we drive by the building to this day and we have been gone now for like 4 months. For the entirety of the 2 years, they constantly overbilled us. The first year we paid over our out of pocket max amounts and we fought them and they reimbursed us approx. $800. The 2nd year they said billing was correct, but again. We paid approx $1k over the out of pocket max amounts and they are denying our dispute to this day. They are also committing insurance fraud by misfiring for the BCBA to sit in so frequently and she is not even there as long as she claims to be. Also, they submitted multiple claims with a Hailey Garr from San Fransisco?! Ummm were in Orange County. We never met this person. Interestingly after some digging, both Melissa Ault (BCBA that had to sit in on all sessions) and this Hailey Garr (from San Fransisco that NEVER was involved), both of them just so happen to be related to the owner and Director of the therapy center (owner: Elizabeth Mitchell). She is the mastermind behind this all. Way too much of a coincidence. Lots of shady stuff going on there. Please don't take your kid. I'm heartbroken my endured all he did and sad I didn't find our sooner. Very sad when you put your faith and belief in places that should be doing the right thing. As a special needs mom I am just so traumatized by what they did to my son. Please don't make the same mistake. read more

My twin girls have been going to OC Speech Services since January, 2020 and I am so thankful we found them. We were in the clinic until the pandemic hit and since then, we have utilized their teletherapy services, which have been wonderful. My girls have received continuous Speech Therapy since starting OC Speech. First, with Jessica and now with Hannah. Hannah is so caring and wants the absolute best for our girls. If I ever have any questions she will answer them right away and it is always so helpful. I am so thankful for her. They have also received continuous Occupational Therapy with Taylor. I am so glad we were matched with her. Taylor's goals, instructions and information are always spot on and our girls have progressed exponentially since working with her. I don't know where to begin to talk about this wonderful place. It has been the biggest blessing in disguise for my son Sebastian. My son was receiving speech and O/T at another speech place. They were great to us in the beginning but once he hit the age of 3, it's like they started pushing in the direction of not wanting to help him. They were telling ME that his challenges were behavioral and they had taught him everything they could teach him? That I could teach him these things at home? They would have to really articulate to my insurance why he needs speech services? And because he was 3, their way of kicking us out was using the mask rule (which was pushed by the O/T more than the speech pathologists)? They kept using Choc as their excuse. So they were only good to us in the moment. Why call yourself a a speech place when don't want to continue helping my son whose biggest challenge IS HIS SPEECH DELAY. So i was stuck. Through my insurance, my son has case manager who got involved, did the research and had me reach out to OCSS. So I did but I had to ask the question if they will help my son because he won't wear a mask. My son is autistic, mainly non-verbal, uses sign language and won't wear a mask due to sensory issues. I ask to speak to a supervisor so I could get confirmation about the mask exemption because I did not want to waste everyone's time. The director of OCSS reached out to me and said OCSS would make an exemption for him based on his condition. I couldn't believe it! and I was just so happy this place would accommodate my son The front desk staff is here is the best. Julia, Betsy, Hannah, and Jenna have been wonderful in helping me schedule, re-schedule or cancel with my son's appointments since my son has been a patient here. They made the process so easy for me in getting my son started, setting up his original assessments and finding my son days and times that worked with his school schedule. They will go above and beyond to work with your availability and your therapists' availability. They made my life easy as far as the co-pay, authorizations from your doctor's office, etc. They will always find a way to help you and your child. I can't say enough about Hannah. She is my son's speech pathologist. With my son being autistic, his biggest challenge has been his speech delay. From the first day my son started with her, he continues to improve each and every visit and accomplish milestones along the way. I knew right away from day one that she was up for the challenge. She has worked very hard each and every time Sebastian is here. She has also gone above and beyond by reaching out both my son's teacher and his ABA therapists to make sure everyone is on the same page with goals that are set for my son. When Hannah is not available, we have had Dana and Kaley fill in who are also wonderful and will work hard with your child. I am also very grateful for Dana because she is originally the one who assessed my son from the start and was willing to have OCSS offer their help with speech services. Brenda is my son's Occupational Therapist and she too has worked hard and tirelessly with him to help him improve his self-care needs. My son also has continued to improve each and every time he is with her. Again we can't thank her enough. Seka is the one who originally assessed my son for O/T and was also instrumental in getting my son more additional help. So when people ask why my son has and continues to improve in school and ABA, it's because of OCSS. My son just had his IEP meeting and I was proud to say OCSS are the X-Factor in my son's milestones and improvement day in and day out. I also knew we were in a great place when we ran into one of my son's classmates from school(small world). She also receives services for the same challenges and has been here longer than us. That was just more proof of how great this place is. So if your looking for Speech, O/T and P/T for your child, you are definitely in the best place possible. They are able to give your child that direct one on one focus that you are looking for. It took some trial and tribulations but in the end, I'm very grateful I found this wonderful place for my son. I have a little girl who was injured at birth and has Erb's Palsy as a result. We have been to therapy since birth and she is now 9 years old so we had a good amount of different therapist. Miss Marry at OCSS has stood out above all. Miss Marry does her independent research to find new ways to target my daughters injury and nerve damage. Miss Marry is genuine, fun, personal, and very professional at the same time. I do not live close to OCSS but it is more than worth the drive for the level of care my daughter receives. DO NOT USE THEM FOR AN IEE!! Do not use them period. They lack in any ethics or care for individuals with special needs should exclude them as an option for services. We were referred to them by LBUSD for an independent educational evaluation. They observed our son for quite some time and conducted multiple assessments. They completed their IEE in which they recommended OT services and suggested areas of need. They then submitted this report only to LBUSD. After speaking with LBUSD, they conducted additional observations at our son's school without our knowledge or authorization, a violation of both FERPA and HIPPA. They then created a new report, where they literally copied and pasted text from LBUSD's report, and now no longer recommended services. Taylor Sheldrick in particular lacks all ethics and should be ashamed of herself. The director of the facility informed us of all of these irregularities and repeatedly stated that she wanted to do the right thing, but the damage was done. Luckily, LBUSD agreed to pay for a new IEE, and this one was thrown in the garbage where it belongs. read more

My son is just about to complete his services with these amazing people at OC Speech Services! I can't say enough positive things about them. He had services at home, school, and at the facility. We really feel like his ABA therapists (Baylee and Dessere) went above and beyond for him as did their supervisor, Bailey. We are so sad to end services with this dream team but happy to pass the baton to another child who can benefit just as ours has. His speech therapist, Dana, gave us the gift of conversation with our son and for that we are forever grateful (he talks non stop now). He didn't have much time with his occupational therapist, Mika, but the time he did have with her counted- she showed him the best time and helped him on skills he can use at home. Even Mia in the scheduling department was so communicative and helpful. We are forever grateful for this facility and their staff and truly appreciate everything they did for our little guy! It took a couple of months to reinstate it and in the meantime, the owner worked with me; we found a solution so that my son's services were not interrupted. My daughter Hayden started speech therapy in November 2021. This has been the biggest blessing, her speech has improved so much. I was so worried when we started and everyone was so nice and helpful. We can't thank Ms. Sharlyn enough, she is amazing. She has helped with not only Hayden's speech but also her skills have improved. Very disappointed with their billing service. I called beforehand to see how much an evaluation would be for my 18 month old through her insurance and they checked for me and said it would be $30 so I went ahead and had it done. I wanted to see where My daughter was at for her age in regards to her speech. Later, they came back and said I owed $60 more. I was very upset for the simple fact that they said it was only $30 and that the extra cost was for some hearing test which she never had. Never again will I go here. On top of that, the evaluation that was done was not precise. I'm a preschool teacher and I work with kids and some of the responses to the evaluation were not correct in regards to my daughters speech. read more

My two children have been receiving services at Orange County Speech Services (OCSS) for a few years now. My children receive OT, PT and Speech services. I cannot overstate how fortunate I feel in finding this facility. Taylor Sheldrick, Kimberly Iacobazzi, and Hannah Blair are amazing therapists. My children have seen marked improvements in their abilities since they began to receive services at OCSS. Taylor, Kimberly, and Hannah are truly knowledgeable in their respective fields. They have shown my children so much patience and care. My 5 y/o daughter has been receiving speech therapy here for apraxia for over a year. She has made so much progress in that time. She loves working with Ms Kayli, who has gone above and beyond to make speech fun. They have worked with our crazy schedule and made the time to coordinate with her school speech therapist. As a professional who has been working in collaboration with OC Speech for 5 years now, I have to say that they are the most professional group of people to work with. Elizabeth and her team are excellent with families and staff. I can't speak highly enough for the amazing services they have provided for us. They have worked in several different cases that have been tough to manage, but with their communication and support, it has been an outstanding experience. We took our 2 year old son to OC Speech Services after our pediatrician recommended speech therapy, since at 2 he was not saying a single word (plenty of babbling in his "own" language, however). We had about 4 sessions with Ruth, and she was absolutely wonderful. Our son took to her right away, and she made him use gestures and sounds to request items that he had never done before. She is absolutely wonderful with kids and clearly great at her job. Unfortunately, our insurance does not cover speech therapy, and after the few sessions we did with Ruth, we decided that for financial reasons, we just could not continue paying the out-of-pocket price per session. We were definitely very sad to have to stop our sessions with Ruth (we'll be looking into free state services), and, it 4 sessions may not seem like much, but I truly give Ruth much of the credit that our son now says about 10 words, after just about a month! I highly recommend OC Speech Services and specifically Ruth (although I'm sure all of their therapists are great) for anyone looking for speech therapy. read more

I first learned about Orange County Speech Services because they came & did screenings at my son's preschool. Based on the screening it was recommended that we get an evaluation and I'm SO GLAD we did. I had talked to my son's pediatrician but they said that he seemed "fine". The evaluation showed (which I knew in my heart) that he was pretty delayed and needed help. My son has a ways to go but he has came a long way the past 6 months being in Speech Therapy and a Social Group at OCSS. He looks forward to his sessions. Soon into his sessions, his therapist noticed some mannerisms and other behaviors and recommended us to speak to an Occupational Therapist. Thank goodness for that because OT paired with the Speech and Social group has really just made everything come together. The clinic is huge on parent education and involvement so that we can practice at home what is taught at the clinic. When my son entered Kindergarten they have even kept in touch with my son's teacher and have given her suggestion on how to help him in the classroom. Conor has even contacted our insurance regarding my son's services at OCSS. I can't say enough about this place. It's locally owed. They are professional, yet very personable and compassionate. What an amazing company. My 5 year old son has been going here for awhile for OT, PT and speech. We have been to other company's but nothing compares. They are very personal and if u don't feel comfortable going in, they still offer virtual. My son has made extreme progress. Much more then any other company. My son has been receiving services for 6 years now and is graduating today! He started with speech therapy, then group speech therapy, and is now ending with occupational therapy. Throughout these years we have had many therapists and enjoyed every one of them. He has always liked going and has gained so much confidence throughout his time. We owe a lot to these therapists and appreciate their hard work. Ms. Emily was his last therapist and we are going to miss her. She is kind and caring and has really taken the time to know our son.
