I did not have a…read moregood experience with the speech therapist who was assigned to treat my daughter for the following reasons: 1. The speech therapist was constantly late to my daughter's appointments, but always left right on time. I got so tired of this that I reached out to our care coordinator at the regional center. Only then did she start showing up on time. 2. The therapy is play based, but it seemed like the speech therapist always showed up with the same toys. If you're using the toys to introduce new words then shouldn't you switch it up a little bit? Wouldn't that help my daughter's vocabulary grow? I again had to contact our care coordinator for assistance. 3. It was raining one day and I got a text from the speech therapist saying that she didn't want her toys to get wet, so they would just use my daughter's toys. This honestly made me laugh because she used a suitcase that zipped all the way around to transport her toys. 4. The speech therapist, a single woman with no children in her early twenties, would often try to give me parenting advice. It was always unsolicited. I certainly wouldn't go to someone like her for advice on how to raise my child. 5. The speech therapist would often refer to my daughter as "Bud"...I am actually still trying to figure this one out. It made absolutely no sense. Who still uses that word and don't you know her real name? I finally asked for a different provider and my daughter was cleared shortly thereafter. The only advice that I have for other mothers is to listen to your intuition. If it feels like someone assigned to treat your child just isn't the right fit then don't wait as long as I did.

In our search for a speech therapist as a mom of a 2 year old boy, I found that many of the…read moreproviders covered by PPO insurance had 6-12 month long waitlists. The ones that don't give real...dmv vibes. My husband and I explored about 10+ providers (some covered by insurance and some not...lynne alba, learning tree, OC speech, etc.) between Long Beach and Orange County. What we learned is: 1. Choose a provider that wants you (mom and dad) involved in the process. Sessions build the foundation and it then can be enforced at home 2. Choose a provider that isn't overloaded with clients so you can get a higher quality of care 3. Kids want to talk when they're excited so a dog for example can really help break the ice and allow your child to open up. That said, our experience with Jen has been phenomenal! She truly cares about my son and she's a mom herself so she knows how family dynamics can be and is understanding of that. She keeps us involved and truly goes above and beyond. This past halloween she coordinated a trick-or-treat tour with the nearby offices for her kids to have fun with! She challenges my son so that he is constantly moving to the next level with his speech. The dog Francis is such a great helper! Sometimes the dog does nothing but stick by my son's side and that is enough and we love it. We've had the opportunity to work with several wonderful therapists, and we're grateful for all of them. They've taken the time to get to know my son, incorporate his interests into each session, and keep him engaged and motivated to learn. I've been taking my 2 1/2 year old son to Zenith for about 6 months now, and his improvement has…read morebeen amazing. When we first started he probably only had 2-3 words to his vocabulary. Now not only does he know some basic sign language that we utilizes a lot at home, but he is now imitating us a lot and is able to say a few three word sentences. He use to throw a lot of tantrums do to not being able to communicate with us correctly. Those have gone down a lot as well. At the moment we are working with Liz who is amazing with him. She knows exactly what grabs his attention, and every time she sees him he comes out with more and more to show. She is bilingual so it has been great for us since we speak both English and Spanish in our house hold. We also work with Brittany, who also has done really good with him. Leslie was the first one we worked with, and Matthias took to her so well. Unfortunately we no longer work with her do to our schedule, but she is super sweet and knows just how to work with kids. Mala I believe is the owner, she is great. Even though she doesn't work directly with every client she knows who you and your kid are when she comes in. Always very attentive.
