Each therapist has a room and the children can either spend time in said room or use the two gyms that are full of toys and play equipment (Lots of swings, slides, playhouse, climbing wall, crash pad, etc.). Both gyms are very clean and well maintained. They also have a nice kid friendly kitchen! Since we have been here for some time, we have had an opportunity to work with many speech and occupational therapists as well as the admin. Everyone here is very kind and knowledgeable in their field, generously offering tips and advice when I ask 100 questions. My son's schedule is packed, so when I need to reschedule, administration is very friendly and helps find a way to make our make-up appointments work for us. We have been with our current and absolutely amazing Occupational Therapist, Brenda, since day 1. She is a miracle worker when it comes to my son's food aversions- getting him to taste things he would normally throw at the wall. He is always super excited on Friday when I grab him from school since he knows hes going to see his "ms. Brenda". She is truly a key figure on my son's care team. We started speech services about a year ago at OCSS and my son's therapist, Claire, is extremely knowledgeable in Gestalt language processing. We just learned that my son is a Gestalt learner before we switched to OCSS and we are so thankful he was paired with someone with the expertise and knowledge that Claire has. She meets him right where he is that day and lets him lead which is so important for our son since he is a little unpredictable. He adores his time with her, and asks for her by name even on days we're not going to OCSS. If you're shopping around for therapy services for your child, I highly recommend OCSS and their staff.

They are overall very creative in developing therapeutic plans to meet our shared goals and open to parent and family input. They truly care for the children that they work with. Over the past 2 years, our son worked with various therapists from PT, OT, speech therapy, and behavioral therapy with both regional center funding and through medical insurance. Our son initially started with significant developmental delays, but now he has more than caught up in almost every area. Our son worked the most with Ms Ruth (ST), Ms. Kelly (ST), Ms. Ariana (OT), Ms. Brenda (OT), Ms. Dana (PT), and Ms. Tori (behavioral therapy). We have had a great experience with therapists our son worked with regularly as well as those not listed that covered on vacations. They are the best. Ms. Ruth and Ms. Kelly helped so much in expanding his communication skills. He started severely delayed in all aspects of communication, and he now can speak up to 7-8 word sentences clearly and understand others. With our son's complicated medical situation, we require a significant amount of assistance and input from OT. We especially appreciate our time with Ms. Ariana and Ms. Brenda, who helped so much in teaching our son to be independent in the day to day self care activities. We really appreciated the many helpful emails from Ms. Ariana with ideas, links to videos, therapy items, educational information, and worksheets to use at home, so we can continue therapy at home in between sessions. The billing situation can be confusing if your child utilizes a lot of therapy session in a week. That in part might be due to insurance processing claims not necessarily in a chronological order. It would be helpful to keep track of visits and insurance explanation of benefits. Even with the billing situation, we would still choose to work with the therapists at this office. They are very skilled and devoted to the children and what they do,

Update: Much better experience!!…read more Since this is one of the only places my insurance takes for the OT I need, I gave them a second chance to begin my needed therapy after a hand injury. I called the Huntington Beach office (I was originally supposed to attend the Costa Mesa location) and spoke to someone different who was able to book an appointment for me with ease. I had a pleasant experience the second time around as the receptionist was kind and sympathetic to my situation. So far I've seen two therapists and both of them were wonderful! They listened to my concerns, took initial measurements of my mobility, and made sure I was comfortable and informed. They used a variety of techniques and tools to help strengthen and stretch my hand after my injury. With the daily exercises at home between my appointments, I am already seeing big improvements in my mobility and strength in my hand. The owner, Scott, was one of my therapists and he was very kind and open to hearing from me. I appreciate that he took the time to meet with me and address the difficulty I initially had in scheduling my initial appointment. He made sure I was taken care of for my future appointments before I left. It was evident that he cares for his patients and I look forward to continuing here for the duration of my treatment!

Scheduling does not communicate well with the staff. They will tell you one thing and do another. We finally found a BI that worked well with my son. We worked with her for a year and she had connected with my son. He was finally making progress. However, my husband's insurance was terminated. I clearly communicated with Love 2 Learn about our situation. I reached out to OC regional to get funding for sessions immediately. Love 2 Learn told me they would give us two weeks before they would replace the BI with another case. I had funding from OC regional in less than two weeks however, Scheduling did not communicate with the staff and the BI was already removed from our case. This was very disheartening for our family. I did speak with Ruben, after being informed that the BI was no longer on our case. He informed me that most of the time OC regional takes longer than two weeks and that they had miscommunicated inside of their facility. I let him know that I worked my but off to get funding and I even hand-delivered the paperwork to OC regional to get the process going fast faster. I continue to follow up with Love 2 Learn about the process, however they didn't communicate within their company. Ruben, did not offer to give us the BI back even though it was their fault for the miscommunicates. I have the Text messages to prove it. He told us that they have other BI that would work great with my child and they wanted to move his session to the afternoon. I was disappointed, I never asked to move session to the afternoons and my son does better in the morning. Honestly, I had an hard time believing that they had someone better to replace the BI I worked so hard to keep. Autistic children have a hard time connecting with people and when they finally do connect and you just take the connection away it's not easy for them to reconnect with someone else. Prior to this BI We had multiple BI that did not work out. Mostly because of the hight turnover. I've even had to report one of those BI for doing insurance fraud and time clock fraud. After she repeatedly claimed hours and they billed our insurance for dates she was not here. She was terminated from the company after I reported her, but imagine how many times she got away with it before being caught.

Of all hospitals my family have been to, this one was one of the worst. It's a long term care…read morehospital and I had big expectations because patients typically stay here over a month. NURSES: I would think that they would assign a designated nurse each day to each patient. Some of them don't even bother to introduce themselves or they're so robotic. There was no building rapport and relationship with their patients. These patients are long term patients so that is important! My dad had multiple nurses come in and then next day, it would be another 3 different people. It's just so confusing. I also find it bizarre that they're always gathered around the station typing away. I've never seen so many people all typing at a hospital but no one is walking to rooms. Is this an office job or a service job? THE WAIT: The other problem we have was that it would take 40 minutes to even an hour for nurses to come after pressing the button. My dad is on oxygen so you can imagine how crazy that is if something happens to his oxygen tank. I would come many times with him waiting to use the restroom because he didn't want to become soiled on bed. Sometimes I find it really hard to smile at the staff who are able to use the restroom at their own will but treat patients this way. I get it that they may be understaffed but there's so many people at the nursing station! If the main in charge person is busy, their manager should be going around to help out. If they can't get it in order, this place needs to consider closing. CASEWORKER/SOCIAL WORKER: our case worker and social worker were really nice. They had all the information to help prepare us entering the facility. The only problem is that I didn't see them as much after. I wish they did more weekly calls to family members to keep us informed rather than us reaching out to them or nurses. I don't want to be a Karen but I hate being the person who have to call to ask why this and that is happening when I'm kept out of the loop. COURTNEY: Yes Courtney gets her own section because she is the only reason my dad smiles at this place. My dad can be picky and short tempered but I love love how she handles his sass. She would come in all the time just to say hi and give him juice/adjust his bed or pillow/check his vitals. I feel like I can trust my dad under her care even though she is not his main nurse on any of the days. This place needs to give Courtney a promotion and or resources to become the nurse in charge because any patient would be lucky to have her. Overall, I would not recommend this place unless it's going through serious reorganization and structure. Employees need to have incentives to want to work better and feel appreciated to translate that to their patients. So unless that's already in place, then they need to reconsider their hiring process. Resumes don't say everything.

I've waited a while to write this review to make sure my head is clearer for an accurate review -…read moreMy family relied heavily on true reviews of the Kindreds when transferring my father to one, so I'd like to provide information to other families who may benefit.  TL;DR: Kindred is bad, outdated, doesn't share information, has no online portal or easy way to get medical information, hard, if not impossible, to talk to doctors, and is the only option for LTACHs in OC. Of the Kindreds in OC, this one is still the "best." There are a few decent people (palliative care team, patient advocate, and the ICU), but they're limited by the system and other issues, and you still have to be present almost at all hours to make sure your loved one is taken care of. An LTACH is a step down from the hospital in terms of care, so you need to step-up to be an advocate.  Long: The building and systems are old. You can't get medical records/test results/doctor notes/chart updates unless you go to the medical records office, fill out a form, and go in and ask for paper copies daily (which we did). The doctors are not available, the nurses don't share anything ("the doctor will tell you that"), and admin can only do so much. Maybe you'll have a case worker that actually does something or talks to you, but the patient advocate was helpful at least and always made time. As far as care goes - the ICU area had better nurse to patient ratios and was really quite good. Outside of the ICU, it was more dismal. The nurses don't really care - most are just doing the bare minimum. There are a few good ones in there - you can request them if you want (do that). It takes ages to get a response after hitting the call button. My dad wasn't repositioned often unless he needed new dressings or linens. PT/OT only worked with him when we were there, otherwise they'd claim he was asleep or not receptive to working. Speech therapy came some but it wasn't until one fantastic lady came and really helped clear out my dad's mouth. You need to be there all the time to hold them accountable and make sure things are done. You can get extended hours approved too, which is worthwhile. Kindred works their employees hard, but the staff still need to understand that their patients are in critical condition, in long-term care, need compassion and good care, and are needing to recover.  The doctors are all listed on the patient whiteboards, but they're never there during visiting hours (it sure felt like this was done on purpose to avoid interaction with family members. We asked many, many times to talk to doctors. If you are the squeaky wheel, though, you may get lucky - pester and then pester more. That's the only way we were able to talk to doctors. Though some of their bedside manners could be better. Make sure to ask who the doctors/nurses/therapists are when they come in as they don't often do introductions. The palliative care team was really quite good - respectful, listened, and compassionate. They really helped us understand what was going on and helped us get the information we wanted and needed. When we were there, Kindred had just started a new hospice contract with Compassionate Health Hospice. It was horrible. They messed up everything they could from showing up 90min after their set time to messing up the medication order. And not even apologizing or being respectful.
