Dropped off a Bose Wave Radio with a broken CD reader on a Monday. They were closed Tuesday, and then they had it ready and working for me on Thursday morning. Thrilled with the results! They charge a $45 deposit fee at dropoff that goes toward the device repair, mostly so you remember to pick up your device within 30 days and they aren't doing repairs for nothing. Repair cost will depend on what needs fixing. In my case, they had to do some work on a control board no longer sold by the manufacturer. You can avoid fees by paying in cash. I've been doing business with Syd for at least three years and in that time he repaired and tuned my Nakamichi TA4A amplifier and fixed my 7 disc Nakamichi CD player and upgraded the entire unit with a new laser device that superseded the original equipment. I was soooooo happy with the results that when I spotted another Nakamichi TA4A on EBay for a good price, I didn't hesitate to purchase it because I knew Syd and his team would bring it up to snuff. One day I just was in the area so I stopped in to say hi and he had just finished fixing a 60 inch Samsung plasma TV that was given to him and he asked me if I was interested in buying it for 150 bucks. WORTH THE DRIVE!!! I'll tell you, after countless shops told me they could fix my DVD recorders, and then said "Sorry, can't fix it," and one guy who just screamed at me that he WOULDN'T touch them, and that parts weren't available, I happened upon reviews for Syd's shop and gave him a call. He said he would do his best to try to fix as many as he could (I have four, and Syd has repaired three so far. Every time one of mine stopped working, I just bought another one ... but they don't make these machines anymore, and the refurbished ones only last about 18 months if you're lucky! You can purchase "refurbished" ones on Amazon for upwards of $1000, and I can't afford that!) If parts aren't available, he will do what he can to FIX THE PARTS! Nobody does that anymore! One of my repaired my machines failed after a few days, I brought it back, and Syd fixed it again (under WARRANTY!). I have several more electronic devices that I want to have him fix when I can afford it (I'm on disability). His prices are reasonable and he stands behind his work! Can't get a straight answer from anyone about what is going on with the repair. It was dropped off 3 weeks ago. Brought my PS Audio 4.6 preamplifier to Peckens because it would only hum really loud when turned on. Syd and his team worked on it and fixed it within a week and a half. It now sounds like it did when I bought it in '87. They found capacitors on the board that were destroyed during a power surge. I brought my Marantz Monoblock MA700/ here a few months previously because it wouldn't turn on. Syd and his team fixed it in just 3 days!!! It's been working great ever since. Another note.... Peckens' is a household repair shop in Roselle. The clip that holds the water canister on my Rainbow vacuum cleaner broke. Peckens' had an old Rainbow on hand that they were able to use to repair the clip. That was lucky! They also adjusted the clip on the other side. The service I received was fast and affordable. We went in to get an " interim " tv as our tv was damaged and we were not yet ready to make another big purchase on a brand new one. Jackie was such a delight . She helped us as well as the owner and another repair man and their service was exemplary all around. We were offered a tv at a very fair price that had just been repaired and they also offered to take the other damaged irrepairable tv off our hands for 10.00 that they gladly took off as a discount. We had looked at the "big box" stores as well but were drawn back to Pekens to not only support a small deserving local business that has been in business for 60 years, but that we also knew that we would be taken care should any problem arise. The picture went out on our 40" Sony Bravia TV so we looked in the Yellow pages for a repair place. We called Peckens mainly because the ad said they have been "established over 50 years". Two technicians showed up the next day. They looked a little puzzled when they looked at the set. One said "Is that a DLP?" Well no it isn't. It was almost like they had never seen a flat screen TV before. So I turn on the set. Sound but no picture. They said "Well we'll have to take it in to the shop to look at it." We said your ad says "in home service". They said, "yes, service, not repair." One of the techs said they had been in business 30 years. Well which is it, 30 years or 50+ years? I took my Sharp 65" LED tv to Pecken Tv Shop for repair. Tv had no picture, HDMI input was not working, was lying dead in the basement for more than a year. Sharp told us that it was out of warranty and they can't help. Sharp suggested that we buy a hdmi port board $130.00 and we did. Still not working. I spoke to the Owner of Peckens TV. I had my tv fixed here because the sound wasn't working. The cost was high and it took me 5-6 times of going to the shop to finally find it open. There is rarely anyone there and they make no effort to accommodate when you would like to pick it up. Also they only accept cash and no credit cards which is also shady and inconvenient. read more

Recently I brought two rather rare high end pieces of audio/video equipment to Peckens TV and Video to be repaired. Their technician did an excellent job both in correctly diagnosing the problem each unit had and in repairing them. In one instance he even had to modify an existing mechanical part to fit my unit. Needless to say this unit, along with my other one, now work flawlessly. I am so happy that I found Peckens TV and Video. Their service is reasonable, prompt and most importantly competent. I have a lot of exotic electronic toys and now I know where I can get them fixed if the need arises. Do not use this company to purchase a new TV. When getting a TV repaired, we were shown a Samsung TV that we could purchase brand new. Two months later, the TV broke and Peckens offered no solutions to help us. We then disputed with our credit card company to receive our money back since he sold us a TV that broke within two months. He now claims we have a 4 year warranty with the TV- which we NEVER told about when we purchased the TV or when we called when it broke. All of the sudden when he gets his money pulled he offers us a warranty that was never mentioned to use before. We then found out that he actually bought this TV from Costco and resold it in his shop. So in reality, this is HIS warranty- not ours. He will not take the TV back unless we pay him $200.00. What??? Why would we pay him to take back a broken TV. All very sketchy. We learned our lesson- never buy a TV from anywhere except BestBuy where they actually help you. read more

So I made a mistake in my previous review. I stated on the 29th of September, that 2 months had passed since Peckens took our t.v. to their repair shop. It had actually been a month and a half. That being said, they did end up holding on to it for two months before I arrived there on an unexpected visit to retrieve it. They claimed in a previous call that it wasn't worth the cost to repair it and so they offered to sell us a different T.V. but they would sell it to us for a higher price than what we would be charged to fix the one we own now. Obviously they are just looking for an opportunity to get as much money out of us as they can so we declined the offer. When I came in to pick it up, they told me they needed time to piece it back together because they still hadn't done so. Fair enough seeing as how I didn't schedule an appointment to begin with. What wasn't fair was the mess they had left on and around the t.v. Multiple items, boxes and parts were just left sitting on the open backside of the T.V. and I don't know how long they were planning to wait before they removed that junk! (the technician actually started removing everything when he saw me staring at it). I understand that our t.v was a "lost cause" but I still expect for them to treat their customer's products with more care. STILL hate this shop, still advise everyone to go elsewhere. read more

I had a great experience at Peckens. I just had my home theater system receiver repaired. It's an Onkyo 7.1 THX receiver. From the time I dropped it off to the time I picked it up was 5 days. They also accepted credit cards, so I'm not sure why there are reviews saying they don't. They were friendly, explained the process, and fixed my issue. I paid a $30 deposit for troubleshooting and that $30 would be deducted from my final repair bill if I chose to have it repaired, which I did and it was deducted from my final bill. I was having sound and picture issues that at first went away after a minute, then a few mintues, then 5, 10, 30, etc before it just stopped working. Looking online, it turns out to be very common with Onkyo receivers. They replaced quite a few capacitors and it now works. They were also very reasonable with their pricing. My brother also had his TV repaired a week earlier with Peckens (Samsung plasma that had no picture and sound), and that was also done within 10 days and very reasonable in price. Neither one of us saw the reviews before hand so I'm surprised to see them all negative, but I'm glad we didn't and came in. Hopefully the few bad reviews are just isolated instances, you figure they have way more than just 5 customers. Their shop is pretty cool too, tons of stuff inside. I would recommend giving them a chance based on mine and my brother's experience. read more
