***So at the persistant pestering of the owner, who called me so many times to change my review, I had to block their number on my phone. (No they did not leave a message they just kept calling me EVERYDAY, while I was at work, at the gym, etc. you get the picture..) I will be more thorough with my review to justify why I am giving this place 1 star.
Here goes:
This salon is really hospitable I'll give them that. However there were a few less than perfect things that happened today during my mani/pedi. Here are my gripes.
1) CUTICLE BLEEDING
the lady cut too much of my cuticles and made me bleed on not one but TWO fingers -- which she then proceeded to put alcohol on them. Let's just say. Ouchiessss
--- Owner: "When a technician accidentally cuts a customer while cutting out the cuticles, the technician must use KDS Lab Liquid Styptic, which is a first aid antibacterial that prevents contamination in minor cuts. As discussed with the technician, they followed out with the procedure. No alcohol was applied. The anti-bacterial, however, does make cuts burn; a small side effect, but the goal is to prevent any contamination."
~~~ Me:UHM, Excuse me? Does neosporin sting when you put it onto your cuts? I have my BS in Biology, please don't try to tell me that antibacterial makes cuts burn. Quick google search told me that KDS Lab Liquid Styptic has 20% denatured alcohol. Nice try.
2) UNEVEN PAINT JOB
There are some "holes" in the gel nail polish where she didn't paint evenly and it looks meh :(
3) POLISH QUALITY
zoya nail polish I picked out for my toes were super thinned out from acetone and it shows on my toes
--- Owner: "Some nail polish colors are made to seem sheer. You are more than free to try out the color on your nails before you decide to use it. The Zoya colors are in a very nice condition, and we do not put acetone in the bottles, as that would ruin the nail polish."
~~~ Me: IMO, I have a couple bottles of Zoya polishes at home and they do not yield the weird thinned out look that I got at the salon using the specific zoya polish that I picked. And the polish I chose was not some pinky sheer color, it was a orange/bright red. Just my opinion on this one. After all this IS yelp right?!
4) SANITATION
Last and MOST important. They seemed to not be very sanitary. While they cleaned out the foot basins. The tools. Oh gosh. Them tools. They just stuck em in some blue antibacterial liquid after they were done with me! I didn't see them grab new tools for the next ladies when I was sitting waiting for my nails to dry. Goodness. And let me remind you. They made me bleed! Antibacterial does not kill blood borne pathogens! Just saying! Just rinsing tools in hot water and soap is not gonna cut it. You gotta autoclave that shiz!
--- Owner: "As for the last issue to be addressed involving the tools I would like to take a moment to explain our procedure for sanitizing the tools. After every day of service out technicians must clean out their tools and put them in a sterilizer for the night. A procedure that, I repeat, every technician is required to do. The sterilizer kills all bacteria, and blood pathogens. As for the blue liquid, germicide, it is changed every morning in order to keep tools clean. When the technician was done with the service she just casually placed them in the liquid, her tools were no longer used."
~~~ Me: After she finished destr.. ahem...cutting my cuticles (which made me bleed) she placed them back into the cleaning solution container in the black basket and back up against the wall where the rest of the manicure supplies were. (Since I got a mani/pedi, she did my mani in my chair.) So basically, what the owner is saying is that tools are not single use (which was already evident since they just stick them in the blue liquid), and is ONLY sanitized after a FULL DAY of useage. And even then, do they even use an autoclave? Who knows.
Sorry, but the salon that I go to in Nebraska (yes NEBRASKA), opens a new autoclaved sterlized bag of tools in front of you! for EACH NEW CUSTOMER.
*Here's some information for you: If you didn't know this I suggest you read on...While many salons use Barbicide, UV light sterilizer boxes, or other chemical solutions to disinfect their tools, the only device that works completely to sterilize instruments is called an AUTOCLAVE, which uses high pressure and steam to kill 100 percent of all infective organisms. But currently, only two states (Texas and Iowa) require autoclaves in nail salons by law, which means that less than one percent of salons use them regularly.
Tools soaking in germicide do not get rid of blood borne pathogens..!
4 stars for service
-5 stars for being unsanitary and making me bleed
-10 stars for being deceptive and blowing up my phone!
Just awful. It's pretty obvious that the $5 off if you write a Yelp review makes up
a majority of the the 5 stars to get high ratings..most people here less than 10 reviews..super.shady. read more
