Run away from this dentist practice, I wish I would've read all the comments on their billing practices before I went here. Charge 47.00 for a dental visit, kept scheduling me for 3 additional appointments (unnecessary) one to meet the dentist doing my procedure and then to find out they weren't there but I was charged 47.00. I was charged 141.00 out of my pocket for office visits on top of my deductible. It cost me over 500.00 for a small procedure out of my pocket. They never asked for a office visit payment except the first visit. They continued to have a reason to keep scheduling appointments. Now I know why it was to get more money from me and my insurance company. Shady practices of getting more money out of you for services. They try to sell you on other services, all for money. Went to another dentist in Frederick, much happier they are more honest and don't try to squeeze money out of you. read more

When I made appointments for my family, I was told that we could each get the exam, cleaning, and tooth whitening in the same two-hour appointment. I asked for this because it is difficult for me to take off work multiple times. Fast forward several weeks -- four days before our appointments, I received a call from a number marked as "Potential Spam" confirming a one-hour time slot. This did not line up with what I was told when I scheduled the appointment, so I asked what I was being seen for. I was then told that I would have to come in for each step on separate visits and that the person who made my appointment was new. The person I spoke with told me that they have a new policy of seeing patients on three separate visits, which I was not told about in the few weeks since I made the appointment. I asked to speak with the dentist/owner, Stuart Stringer, and things got even worse from there. He picked apart my complaint and interrupted me on several occasions. It made me think, "If this is how he handles a scheduling issue, how would he handle my teeth?" I lost trust for him and told him to cancel our appointments and that we would go elsewhere. He then called my wife and left a voicemail saying that there was a "misunderstanding," despite me being told explicitly on the first call that it would all be handled during the first appointment. He also said he is "not allowed to cancel" my wife's appointment without speaking to her and that she is her "own person." Two minutes later, he called her back and left another voicemail saying that he did in fact cancel her appointment and would like to see her but not me. Between the two frantic voicemails, he gave his personal cell phone number four times. It was a mess. You couldn't pay me to go to this dentist. read more

Great practice!! Just had my 10 year old ADHD son in for a cleaning. The office staff is very professional Chrissy answered all my questions pre-authorized before my visit with my dental insurance. I received reminder call and email about appt. She and Carla were very nice upon arrival explained my benefits to me. Dr EJ and her hygienist kept my little guy in the chair :-) Dr EJ explained the importance of slowing down and brushing his teeth correctly and took the time to practice with him. Let me start by saying that I've always hated going to the dentist, but I have found one that I don't dread going to! The entire team there is amazing, and they put you at ease during the entire process. I was greeted by the lovely Karla in the front office who patiently explained every detail of my visit. My amazing hygienist was Danielle, she was very thorough and kind. Finally Dr. Stringer was my dentist, and I must say, she is the best dentist I've ever seen. I switched to pearlfection about a year ago after encountering problems with a previous dentist who felt it was necessary to repeatedly stick his finger in my mouth in order to show me how to brush my teeth (I'm 22, I know how to brush my teeth, whether or not I apply said knowledge is another matter) I told pearlfection about my previous experience and they are always kind and make sure I am comfortable and they never stick any fingers in my mouth! Hooray for respecting boundaries!! Just went in today for a cleaning, everything is clean and shiny as always (and now so are my teeth!) and chairs are comfy and they've always got great throwbacks playing on the radio. I'm a huge fan of getting to stare into space on the TV monitor above the chair during my visit. Shabnam was so friendly and efficient, girl knows how to clean teeth! I have gone here for a few years and they were always accommodating and would work with you on payment plans. Now out of no where they no longer take payment plans for anyone! They gave me an estimated bill (with insurance) of $1000 total and than proceeded to tell me that they no longer do payment plans! How do you expect everyday people to be able to keep up with their mouth care and pay that much with insurance completely out of pocket with one payment?!?! I should have known not to go back to them after their root canal specialist refused to continue on my root canals treatments when he found out my insurance ran out for the year. I was in so much pain and they didn't care! It was all about the money! I went to Excel Dental who is exclusively for root canals and they let me do a payment plan and I paid every dollar back! I suggest you go there for all your root canal needs! Screw Pearlfection they don't truly care about their patients, they only care about their money. read more

Pretty terrible experience here with Dr Stringer. I broke a tooth and was in pain, under the impression this was something I would need to address with some urgency. I also have no dental insurance. Dr Stringer quoted me about $3K plus of work over several months with no other options, and with nothing to address the broken tooth in the first half of that process. All she said was keep it clean and take otc painkillers. I was pretty upset having to pay for that consultation with no realistic path to resolution, considering I couldn't even afford the work she wanted to do BEFORE getting to the issue I came in to address. I expressed this in a questionnaire they sent and nobody bothered to follow up. They couldn't care less about you. read more

I would like to preface this by saying I HATE THE DENTIST. Like really really HATE the dentist. I have no problem pulling a wild six foot black snake out of my basement or jumping out of an airplane but the prospect of going to the dentist makes me freeze up like a little bitch baby. My previous dentist was literally so awful that after my last crown it was well over four years before I could bring myself to set foot into another dental office. (NOT RECOMMENDED by the way) That being said, these folks are seriously the kindest, nicest, most gentle, most attentive people I've ever met. They at no point made me feel like an inconvenience because of my phobia and discomfort. In this day and age, finding an entire team that is excellent is a rarity. The front desk folks are consistently attentive, kind, competent and FRIENDLY!!! Susan, the dental assistant that I have seen on several occasions now, is exactly the same. The moment I walk through the front door, I feel comfortable. All of my questions are answered. I came to this office for a toothache. My office visit was scheduled quickly. A comprehensive treatment plan was set forth and I was scheduled for the therapy shortly thereafter. Dr. Patel "the gentle giant" was fantastic and was detailed in describing what I may experience after the procedure. I have never written a Yelp review before but i have also never had a worse experience at a dental office. Multiple bad experiences, but the last was when I had a 7 a.m. dental appointment. The bridge near my home had flooded and I had to take an alternate longer route that would have made me 15 min late. I called right when their office opened at 7 to let them know that I was on my way and would be late. They told me they needed the entire hour and that they would reschedule for the next week. A couple days later I received a bill for $50 for a missed appointment. I called to explain the situation and the woman I spoke said they could not waive the fee, said their was no way to know if I was lying. I of course cancelled my rescheduled appointment because clearly I was not a good fit for their office for which they of course will be charging me another $50. They are clearly policies over people. read more

First off, let me begin by saying a couple of things. I am not a person who regularly writes reviews (positive or negative), but this has been an experience I felt I truly needed to share. Additionally, while you will find this review quite negative, the doctor and assistant who I worked with were quite friendly and gentle during my procedures themselves, though I have experienced significant pain afterward. My complaint truly, is with the deceptive policies this firm has put in place to ensure you spend top dollar. TOP dollar. I called Pearlfection originally because I needed to find a new dentist locally, and they had good reviews online, so I went ahead and called. I asked whether or not they took my insurance, and they said "yes." Great! I booked the appointment, had a cleaning done, and while I found it a bit expensive, I chalked it up to chance, and proceeded to schedule a filling as my next appointment. They did give me an estimate for that cost, which I also found a bit expensive, but worthwhile since I elected to have nitrous oxide (something they readily pointed out was not covered by insurance). OK. After that, I asked about some other "soft spots" they found on my films, and after a discussion, it was decided that we should go ahead and take care of those as well. I scheduled the appointment. This time, I did not receive an estimate for what the expected cost would be. I went in for my next appointment to have my soft spots filled, and once I got to the front desk to check out, I was informed that my payment due would be well over $1,000. I was stunned. I immediately stated that there must be some mistake, to which the receptionist replied, "but your insurance is not in network..." (Imagine the sound of a screeching record at this point.) I then promptly stated that I was told upon my original call that my insurance was accepted - to which she replied, "we tell everyone that we will accept your insurance - it is your responsibility to find out if we are in network." Further - she went on to say that if I felt that I had been misled, she would take it up with her supervisor. I took that option, paid several hundred dollars, and went on my merry way. Bills continued to come, and calls, and emails, and texts... Here's the ironic part. One of those emails (sent AFTER my procedure) actually states: "Our records indicate you or someone in your family has unused dental insurance benefits equal to $1,083.00. We also see that you may have unscheduled treatment where these benefits could be used toward. If your benefits go unused they will likely be forfeited. PearlFection's goal is to assist you in getting the most out of your insurance and provide the best dental care possible. We encourage you to not wait till the end of 2016 to make an appointment because our schedule gets full close to the most common expiration date of December 31st, as patients try to use remaining benefits." Really???!!! Well they sure as heck haven't applied to anything I have done with this organization in the past! And here's the kicker - my teeth did not hurt prior to having any of this work done. At this point, I can no longer use the left side of my mouth for chewing. I am seeking treatment elsewhere, and frankly, so should you. read more

They're flexible with scheduling and they have affordable rates - when my insurance bounced back part of my payment they worked with them to get it sorted out on my behalf. Let me begin by saying the dentist (Dr. Pashai) I interacted with is skilled and a wonderful practitioner. She explains procedures, seems to practice evidence-based dentistry (i.e., I don't feel like a lot of unnecessary procedures are being recommended), and is professional and personable. However, I've never had such a terrible experience with front desk staff as I had today at this practice. The front desk staff was incredibly rude, spoke down to me (I'm sure I have 20 years in age difference on them), and refused to offer apologies for being rude. One of the staff members actually escalated the interaction by saying, "I have nothing to apologize for." Another staff person came out front, who had been lovely on a previous visit, and both continued to insist that neither was rude but rather it was simply the case that I didn't want to pay my bill. I have to echo what others have written that the billing folks/front desk staff are problematic. Its just good business to refrain from being rude and to apologize when someone is upset. Please provide them with customer service training so that this doesn't happen with anyone else before a dental procedure. read more

I had a great experience with Dr. Stringer today. I went in not expecting much, but in the end, I got everything I wanted to get performed, done. Dr. Stringer made things possible even on a time crunch. I also gained a little more knowledge about the health of my teeth, and Dr. Stringer definitely made me comfortable knowing and explaining exactly what she was intending on doing, and what the risks/rewards were. Dr. Stringer was very professional and extremely knowledgeable. Prices were very competitive as well. Also, the front team Chrissy, Karla, and Jocelyn were very welcoming and make for a great front staff personnel. I highly recommend this dentistry to anyone in the area. I live very far away and wouldn't mind the 45 minute drive, just to visit the dentist again! read more

This is a great office for technology. I had my regular check up with Cindy recently and really liked all the updated x-rays. They took one of my whole mouth and showed it to me on the large screen TV. Cindy explained what I was looking at and it made it alot easier to understand. Getting the x-ray was quick, painless and came on the screen instantly. This is a big improvement. read more

I got my Invisalign done here, it was amazing, and everyone compliments my smile :) Susan and Dr. Stringer were very nice to work with, they wanted my smile to be perfect and did everything they could to make it that way. Dr Stringer is a perfectionist, I needed a bit of cosmetic work done because of a chipped tooth from when i was a kid. Dr Stringer made my tooth look immaculate you wouldn't be able to tell i had ever chipped my tooth. I have been a patient of this practice for over 30 years and going to the dentist is actually a pleasant experience! Dr. Mullen, Dr. Stringer, and the staff have become my extended family over the years (especially Tammy, Carol, Cindy, and Mary). When I heard he was going to sell the practice, my first thought was that of disappointment and concern of who I would possibly go to for my dental needs. Before I had much chance to worry about that, I met Dr. Stringer. She is the perfect dentist to take over for Dr. Mullen. Her expertise in this field is amazing, not to mention she is like a "breath of fresh air" when she walks in the room. She explains everything in detail so that the patient knows exactly what they need to know. I would never consider making a change away from this office. Besides, the staff of hygienist are wonderful, every one of them. I never thought I'd ever say this (since I was a child with "dentist phobia") but I do love going to see them...they treat their patients like gold and are so welcoming. I was just here yesterday and the dentist and office staff are AWESOME! I've only been there 2 times and they already know my name and face as soon as I walk in. I've had a horrible experience with this dentist office. The hygienists are great, but I am not a fan of Dr. Stringer or Dr. Mullen. Dr. Stringer has repeatedly pressured me into drilling into multiple teeth just to see if shadows on my x-rays are fillings, despite the fact that the markings have been there for years and haven't caused issues. When I finally gave in, Dr. Mullen performed the drilling, and drilled into my teeth despite the fact that I said I wasn't numb and flinched in pain the entire time. I gave them a couple chances over the past few years to improve, but I will not be going back here. read more

at first I loved this placed. great staff, enjoyable doctors. but they have the absolute worst billing practices. I have insurance which they verify the costs but intentionally over charge. instead of refunding, they keep a credit on your account. we were never informed of the credit until it was suggested to my husband to buy teeth whitening with his credit. i inquired about my account and was told I had about a $150 credit. so I asked for that visit to be deducted from my credit which was below $150. later, I received an invoice/bill. I asked for a list of charges and payments. they sent me the same invoice only it said I owed nothing. then a week or so later, I received another bill (no additional visits since then). I responded via email/phone message but never received a response. now I'm being told that they are sending me to a collection agency. i dont trust them to just pay up so now im askibg for a larger list of charges & payments so I can handle it through insurance...btw I have great credit (750+) and I would never consider risking my score unless truly felt that they were shady. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. This places billing practices are a mess. All four of my wisdom teeth became impacted at once and I was told to get them removed immediately or the pain would only get worse. They recommended me to another dentist but that dentist couldn't get me in for two weeks, so I decided to look around to try and get in sooner (because of the pain). I found Pearlfection and was instantly happy because I was told they could get me in later that day for both a consultation and extraction of all of my wisdom teeth. I WAS NEVER TOLD THE CONSULTATION WASN'T FREE! I was in a really tough spot finically so I made sure to ask if they took my insurance plan and they said they did. So, I went to my appointment, had the consultation and was then was told that they couldn't do the surgery that day. I was instantly irritated because I was told it would be done that day. However, I let it go because they said they could probably get me in soon. We went to check out and go over the cost of the surgery, which I expected, and they came back to me with $3200 some odd dollar bill. I said again at that point are you sure that you take my insurance because this seems really high, once again I was reassured that they did and that this was only an estimate. Once leaving I knew that there was no way I could afford that bill. So, I went to another consultation with the surgeon that my dentist had originally recommended and at the end of that consultation I was told that I would pay about 400 at most for the 1300 dollar surgery. This was also just an estimate, but one that seemed a lot more reasonable. So, I had my surgery done there instead of Pearlfection. This past month I just got hit with a bill for 144.00 for the consultation. I called them and asked why I was being billed and was told that it is only free if I had gotten the surgery done there and clearly I had not. Then I asked again why I was being billed because I asked on the phone before I went about my insurance because I knew I could not afford anything at that time, so it would have to be covered in the first place. Then they told me that they take my insurance but they are "out of network" with them so in a loop hole sort of way they don't actually take my insurance. When I asked why I wasn't told this when I originally called they said that I needed to take some responsibility about my own insurance. I am 21, don't know too much about the adult world yet and am totally appalled that I was not informed of this when I asked them straight up if they took my insurance and if it would be covered. This place is a rip off and will bill you in any possible way they can. They also did this same scam with my mom about a year ago as I found out when I started talking to her about what happened. I cannot say enough great things about this practice and the staff that work there. I am a new patient to Pearlfection but have already had to visit 4 times over the last month. I have pretty severe dental anxiety that caused me to avoid the dentist at all costs, for a few years too long. When my tooth cracked I had no choice but to find a new dentist. After a quick google search I found Pearlfection and made my appointment. The office is stunning, the staff is kind, helpful and patient. At every appointment I am greeted with a smile and checked in promptly. At my most recent appointment I had to have a dreaded root canal, not that I ever wish to have one of those again but the experience was made as best as possible from start to finish. Dr. Patel and Tammy worked hard to keep me calm, answer all my questions along the way and most importantly keep me comfortable. I left the appointment so appreciate to have found this office and the care I have received over the last few months. I am so thankful I found this practice and would recommend them to anyone, it is so convienent that they can care for the most basic dental needs to more complex needs all in the same office. I went to Pearlfection Dentistry about a couple of weeks ago and the service was outstanding! There were three ladies in the front desk who greeted me with a smile and took care of my every need. I asked tons of questions but they answered them thoroughly without a sign of irritableness. My hygienist was a nice lady name Carol who took her time with me and explained everything i didn't understand. Also i got to know her a little better which made me feel very comfortable. After that I met the Dentist Dr. Stringer who was also very polite and knew exactly what she was doing. The chemistry between Dr Stringer and Carol was amazing as they pulled out all the stops to make sure my teeth was top par. Then i was greeted again by one of the ladies at the front desk Jocelyn. She explained everything with my insurance and took her time so that i had everything understood perfectly. I also decided to get Invisaline because her teeth were perfect because of her treatment. I have been going to this practice for 27 years. I understand things change but ever since Dr. Stringer came in I dread going to the dentist. I feel like I'm always trying to be sold some service that my insurance doesn't cover. Last May when I was in for a cleaning she told me I would need a filling. When she began to explain the procedure to me, she started out by telling me that she was going to use a big rusty needle and laughed hysterically at herself. I didn't find that at all funny or professional (did I mention this is the first time I've ever met this dentist) I went in a few days later for a filling and she repeatedly called me the wrong name. I stopped her to make sure she knew who I was and that she was filling the correct tooth. Today the hygienist told me that they were going to take X-ray's at the visit. I told her that I didn't want X-ray's today. I feel like they should have asked not told me. Today they tried to sell me sealants which surprise insurance doesn't cover. I am actively searching for a new dentist. I would not recommend this dentist to my friends and family. read more
