Just had my first visit to Opal Ridge yesterday, and the experience was very good. I had been putting off finding a new dentist (after moving from DC and loving my dentist there) since it's such a hassle, but Yelp did not steer me wrong! The office is clean and modern. It's a little loud due to competing music and TV volume, but it's not terrible. The exam "rooms" are not rooms - the office is open concept, which is kind of strange when you think about it, but the partitions offer plenty of privacy so I didn't feel like I was getting peeped on when I was getting my teeth cleaned. My hygienist was extremely thorough and explained everything to me as she was doing what she was doing. Dr. T was also very warm, welcoming, and thorough. He explained everything to me in understandable terms and also told me about a potential cause of my teeth grinding that I had never considered before for me to ask my primary care physician. Front desk staff were quick, professional, and friendly. I set up my next cleaning for 6 months down the road - if the service and attention to patients continues, I'll be a patient for life! read more

I'm not gonna lie, my visit did not start off on the best foot. I had an appointment for 8:20 AM and wasn't taken back until 8:45. I was not informed what the delay was. The hygienist Rae (?), was AMAZING. She was super friendly. She took a full set of x-rays since I was a new patient and then gave me a pair of sunglasses to put on before she started my cleaning. They had numerous flavor options for the polishing paste. I was offered cherry, vanilla, mint and cookie dough. She checked on my comfort numerous times while she was working and was very thorough. There is a large flat-screen TV hanging high in front of the chair so you can watch TV while they work on your teeth. Once she completed the cleaning, Dr. Thackenkary came in to do the final examination. He did a complete oral cancer screen and checked the condition of my jaw, teeth and bite. He also explained about the pH of my saliva and how it helped to prevent cavities, which was interesting. He did not try to "sell" me anything else, like tooth whitening. Every other dentist I've been to has always tried to get me to pay for something else. Dr. Thackenkary advised me to come back in 6 months for my next routine visit and gave me a goodie bag with a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and mouthwash. Neither Dr. Thackenkary or Rae were condescending or rude. I've been to some dentists who get a bit nasty when they are telling you about your teeth and if there is any plaque or anything. Not these two! Rae just explained how to better floss my bottom molars to help prevent buildup in the future. Overall, I was extremely pleased with my visit. Friendly staff and straightforward dental care. I highly recommend others visit Opal Ridge Dental for their dental needs. You'll be pleased. read more

I've been here for 2 cleanings and both were easy as pie. The first was a deep cleaning and I must have been there for an hour or a bit more. The second visit was a regular cleaning. I arrived at 4:00 on the dot for my appointment and was back in my car by 4:30. Even though Dr. T was so speedy during the cleaning, it didn't hurt a bit nor did I feel rushed or like he didn't do a good job. Dr. T and his staff are really pleasant and laid-back, especially his dental tech. Scheduling is very easy with their hours and I've gotten reminder calls for both my appointments. The office has been open for a few months so everything is still new and spotless, and there is plenty of parking since they are in the same shopping center as Giant and Starbucks. Very happy to have found this dentist through Yelp. I've been looking for a new dentist and Dr. T is perfect. Why? 1. Communication- Dr. T. and his assistant took time to explain every step of the cleaning and check up process in an easy to understand way. They were also great with my daughter, making her feel totally comfortable throughout the process. The lady at the front desk was also great- she took the time to explain my insurance plan for me and showed me what I would and would not be charged for on my visit. Every doctors office should do this, but unfortunately they do not. 2. Quality- I really like having a dentist do cleanings- I don't mind hygenists, but Dr. T did a great job. My teeth still feel clean hours later! He also demonstrated for my daughter the right way to brush- which is great because this was her first official visit to the dentist! 3. Comfort- The office is very clean and up to date, and I love being able to watch TV on a big screen while my teeth are being cleaned. I've been searching for a family dentist for several months. I found Dr. T and based on his reviews, I made appointments for me and my kids. My 4 year old is very afraid of the dentist but the staff and Dr. T made our visit so easy. He had a cleaning and watched cartoons at the same time. This is a very clean dental office. Dr. Thackencary seems to be very kind and caring so far. I'm still new to the office and need to continue visiting before I can give an honest 5 stars. I don't really care for how the exam rooms are separated by dividers. I heard the Dr. talking to a patient today while I was there and was glad I didn't know the person. If I did, I would know a bit about her dental Health which impress the HIPPA laws. Fredrick is a small town so it's not unheard of that I know some of the patients there. My wife and I recently moved to the Frederick area and we went to this practice based on recommendations. Unfortunately, I can't give the same glowing review. The dental hygienist is very thorough, but very aggressive! I'm in my mid-50s and believe I have a fairly high discomfort tolerance, but I honestly didn't know if I could get through her cleaning. She was very rough with her instruments and the constant water down my throat gave me a drowning sensation. I brought it to the attention of the staff and was advised they only have one hygienist on staff and they could possibly schedule a temp hygienist for future appointments. I appreciate the accommodation, but this is not the sort of relationship I want to have with my dentist office. Furthermore, my wife is very sensitive to dental care and I certainly didn't want to subject her to this for her first appointment. So we decided to change to a different dental practice. read more

The staff here is the best. Was seen for the first time after losing a filling done by former local dentist. That practice was "all booked" for the day, so I called Opal Ridge. I was fit in quickly when I had a toothache. They took X-rays and determined I had to have a root canal done on a molar. I had to be sent elsewhere to have that done, as Dr. T couldn't do it. I am so impressed. First time in my life that a dentist didn't hurt me while cleaning my teeth. Everyone was so pleasant, helpful and thorough. I knew I needed extensive dental work and asked for a treatment plan to be worked up for me. I thought the prices would be much higher than quoted. While talking to the office manager, I mentioned my health insurance. On a whim, she decided to just check to see if it would cover any of my dental work. It does cover almost all of it. My portion is going to be about the cost of a normal dental office visit and cleaning!! I left crying tears of joy. I honestly thought I would end up having to let my teeth fall out and get dentures. The staff are polite, friendly and attentive. The space is clean and modern. Dr. T was really kind and gentle. Even my daughter was calm and relaxed through the entire process. Also, he did the most thorough dental exam I have ever had. He discovered that my daughter had tongue-tie...which explains a lot from her newborn months and I wish someone had discovered it sooner!
