When you have a cabeza like mine - finding glasses is difficult. This Pearle Vision has always had a pair - or two - that fit and don't look silly. I made an appointment for my 4-year-old son by phone. When I arrived, I was told my appointment wasn't in the system. I was offered an appointment 2 hours later. When I accepted, I was told that this location lacked the equipment for any child under 6. This never came up in conversation, nor is it listed on the website. I know this is a franchise of Pearle Vision, but I will never go to any Pearle Vision for service ever again. read more

I am so glad that I saw Dr. Trisha Patel in Downers Grove. She was wonderful, and I was also impressed with her staff. Everyone was very friendly, and clearly knew their field. Dr. Patel spent time getting to know me and the ways I use my eyes - as an artist, I do a lot of very close-up work. I really appreciated that. I can clearly tell that my new glasses make a huge difference in the way that I see. Close work is much clearer than before. I'm very happy to have found Dr. Patel, and will definitely see her next check up time. read more

This was my first time at this eye center and was expecting to potentially start a long term relationship with the doctor here. After my visit I do not think I will be coming back. My insurance benefits are about to expire and decided to take advantage of an eye exam. I had always heard of Pearle Vision's service and found out my insurance was accepted there. I can admit that their selection seemed a little higher that what I am use to spending but I am more than willing to make an investment in good quality products. It was my first time there the environment didn't seem as welcoming. While I was waiting for my exam I was conversing with Elizabeth the receptionist as to my desire only to get an exam and my prescription updated due to the high pricing at the center. Seeing as todays competitors for lenses are readily available with more options online I found it better to wait. Whilst I was inside with the eye doctor, the staff found it prudent to comment on decision no to spend my money there. Quoting "If I don't have the money to spend, why even come here" I found this comment very unnecessary, inexcusable and very distasteful. I drove more than 30 minutes for this exam and the expectations I had were crushed by two of the staff members. Dr. William Baseleon was wonderful and for a moment I was happy to have found a doctor I felt both comfortable with and excited to see for a future visit. My finances should not be a comment for the staff to mock in any way. I have made my way to Warby Parker for my finally purchase. read more

The Pearle Vision in the North Riverside Mall is a total rip off. I paid for my eye exam including the co-pay immediately. I checked out the eye ware (frame selection), and I elected to get my glasses online. I chose to get my glasses online, because the glasses at Pearle are unattractive (in my opinion) and terribly over-priced. They refused to do my measurements for the frames which is poor customer-service. I spoke with someone over the phone who assured me that it could not be done. I wish I had known that they would behave this way before I got my eye exam from them. There is NO WAY that I will spend one penny at this place again. Judging by many of your experiences, I am not alone. They are a greedy company that offers a poor (overpriced) frame selection and the customer-service is awful. NEVER AGAIN. read more

This has been a very expensive lesson. I have never paid so much for a pair of glasses before. I have never had to wait as long as I did for my glasses to be done (almost two weeks). And I have had so, so many issues. When I finally got my glasses, the Transitions coating was not working. It would get a little dark, but only barely noticeably so. I tried contacting this location via the email address on their website and never received a response after sending multiple emails. When I called, I was told that the email address on their website isn't correct, and they knew it wasn't correct, but for some reason the website was just never updated. When I was finally able to get ahold of someone, they were able to get me replacement lenses in a couple of days, which is nice, but makes me wonder why it took nearly two weeks the first time. Then, a few weeks ago, one of the arms fell off. Pearle was closed, so I had to take it to Target Optical, who were kind enough to fix it for me for free. Now, only 5 months later, my expensive "designer" Fysh UK frames have multiple chips in the color coating (they're metal frames). The arm (the one that didn't fall off) has two series of chips that have removed the color along 3/4" at the bottom and 1/3" at the top. The face has four individual chips in it. I haven't exposed them to anything more than normal wear-and-tear for glasses (in fact, I've been treating them gingerly since I got the first chip). I've had very cheap glasses, a quarter of the price, in the past that have not been damaged anywhere near this easily. When I went onto their website to talk to them about all these issues I've had, the wrong email address is still there. I tried calling the number listed, and it just rang and rang before telling me that my call did not go through. When I called the corporate number and tried to get their correct number via the directory, this location wasn't listed. This is when I noticed Pearle's warranty under the FAQ: It's only 30 days. THAT'S IT. I spent over $450 AFTER insurance on these glasses, and they only stand by them for a month. I cannot recommend Pearle Vision, unless you're just going to see Dr. Patel (who was fantastic) and you get your glasses elsewhere. If you do buy them here, I would recommend staying away from the Fysh frames, especially the metal ones. read more

I went at the last minute for my checkup at the Riverside location. I was able to get an appointment within a half-hour of calling. The optometrist who took care of me was neither of the ones listed on the glass outside the door but she was an older white woman who was very sweet, knowledgeable and took her time to make sure I was able to decide which lenses I could see better from. I was also able to pick a pair of nice glasses that were covered by my insurance. I didn't feel nickel and dimed to add any additional add-ons I didn't need, besides the scratch-resistant lenses. I was told my glasses would take between 8-10 business days but I got a call the following day they were ready! I had a nice experience here. read more

I couldn't be happier with my experience here. The front office staff and doctor were all very friendly and patient. I was explained everything thoroughly! One of the assistants with dark hair and glasses made my experience memorable. She was very patient and gave me her input while selecting frames. I felt like I had known them for a long time! After one too many frustrating experiences without having my glasses I went to Pearle Vision Express to get some specs made the same day. I already had a prescription but needed some super fly frames. The front desk staff was extremely friendly upon entering the store. The frames were half off up to $200 and any frames over that were $75 off. Not a bad deal. One of the employees informed me that they always run pretty decent sales on their frames. The selection was pretty decent. They had designer labels such as D&G, Prada, Marc Jacobs, Fendi, Kate Spade and so on... Then they had Cover Girl frames as well. Queen Latifa would be so proud! The prices on the frames were a tad bit high (the cheapest I saw were $139), but at half off I was excited with the prospect of being able to see clearly on my drive home that day. After modeling several dozen frames I finally picked my favorite pair and sat down to talk with the technician. I thought I was doing pretty good on price since the frames that I picked were half off but was shocked to see that my lenses alone were going to cost me over $200. That included a 1 year warranty and an anti glare option. The technician was really helpful and assured me that if the glasses or prescription didn't work out that they would replace the lenses no charge within 60 days. All in all, I would go back here for my next pair since I already have no doubt that these new ones will be lost or broken sooner or later. It is definitely on the expensive side but some things are worth it. read more

Absolutely horrible. NEVER go here. The staff (all of them in every department) is horribly rude and look down at you for being a commoner who doesn't know as much about the eye as they do. They supposedly guarrantee glasses to be made within 2 hours, and when I went it took four hours AND YET BECAUSE THEY WERE SLOW ASSES THEY SOMEHOW FELT I WAS AT FAULT!?!?!? I really don't know how this place stays open. It should not. There usually are not many cars in the lot either, yet it has been around for years. Avoid it. read more

I am simply in love with this establishment! I came here as a result of being swindled one time too many at Visionworks (North Riverside mall location-see my Yelp review). This was the best decision I ever made regarding my eyesight, and I will make sure to bring my daughter here from now on as well. Dr. Philippou was my optometrist, and he was excellent! He answered all of my questions (and believe me, I had plenty!) and he explained things in laymen's terms so that I could totally understand what was going on with my eyesight. He understood and addressed my concerns regarding the type of contact lenses and eyeglasses I needed vs. wanted. He was so concerned about my eyesight, that he gave me some trial lenses so that I could see how the lenses felt before making a purchase. The trial pair were great. My concern was that I had a trip coming up and wasn't sure if my contacts would be ready in time. The staff was great and was able to order my contacts and have them overnighted to me (only a $20 charge) so that I would have them in plenty of time before my trip. The staff also made sure to use my insurance and I paid an excellent price for my contacts (much cheaper than I thought I would be paying!). I only wish that I had been coming to Pearle Vision years ago! The staff was also great in helping me to pick out frames for my reading glasses. They made sure that I was happy with my decision, and they called me as soon as they were ready (they were ready earlier than they had told me, which was great). They also made sure that the glasses fit and were comfortable (they fit and they were very comfy). My daughter was with me when I picked up the glasses and even she was impressed with the quality of the service and the products there. This will most definitely be the establishment that we will frequent to fill all of our family's optometry needs. read more

5/14/2016 was the second time I have been to this location. The first time I came was about 1-1 1/2 years ago. My primary eye care is usually VisionWorks in the NR Mall across the street. I have been going there for about 6-7 years. I always have issues with wait times and not feeling educated when I leave the building, I feel like I am in a factory getting pushed in late and pushed out as early as possible. I decided this year, I would try something different. The first time I came in, it was just to find glasses. I had taken my eye exam at VisionWorks but couldn't find any frames that I liked, so I went to Pearl and the ladies there were so much fun - they had me modeling in the middle of the floor room - I made my purchase and have been happily wearing them for the last year +. I decided that my experience was very good here, so I went in on Saturday to get my exam from a new doctor for the first time in 7 years. I usually expect a wait on Saturdays because, like me, the world has off Saturdays/Sundays. I always come into my appointments early to make sure I have time to fill out any paperwork. I was one of two customers in the store and as soon as I came, I was greeted by Anissa and assisted with paperwork and my field tests. She made me comfortable and was able to joke around me. She completed the tests, made sure I had everything ready to go, and then asked me to have a seat for the doctor. I am pretty sure that Dr. Patel was ready for me before I could put my butt back in the chair and took my appointment a few minutes early or exactly on time - I couldn't tell because I was so surprised! Dr. Patel was genuine, sweet, and very informative. It was nice to have a doctor expalin what was going on, what changes have happened and be very forward. She was also very personable - which lets face it - some doctors have to really pry some information out of me when having small talk. She was very easy to talk to. I can't wait to go back. My only issue with this place is that it is small and does not have a ton of selection in frames. I ended up getting my prescription but not buying frames because I didn't see any that I liked. However, as my friend who is a eye doctor in southern IL said, I am a frames snob.... oh well! That's obviously my problem and not Pearl's. read more

AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE. I was in a state of crisis haven just broken in two my glasses this morning. I went to the first place America Best and got a new check up and prescription only to find it take two weeks. I asked for a temp solution since I was leaving to go out of town in 3 days. 14 hour drive and I need my glasses to drive and at night. I then went to Lens Crafters in Berwyn. horrible customer service, bad attitudes and prejudice. They said a week but didn't even bother to look at them and give a temporary solution,. I asked are there any same day services. She lied and said none in Illinois. Wrong. There is a place in Rockford. It was now dark and I cannot see to get home so I tried the place across the street. PEARLE VISION, AMAZING. Even though it still would be a week she was able to take the time and effort to offer temporary solution. She went in the basement and found new frames that would fit my lenses. My glasses were pretty old. THANKS TO THE LADY WITH THE DARK BROWN HAIR. I will be back because of this to get my new permanent ones. read more

Just amazing! Dr. Victoria informed that my last eye doctor basically lied to me about my eye Rx. She has one for glasses but not for my contacts. That can damage my eyes. She is great. This is a drive from my house but super worth it! Well always come back!!! read more

The woman who helped me I believe her name was Lawanda, was awesome!! Even though she was just doing her job and fixing my glasses, she was great with everyone and you could tell took her job very seriously!! Owning my own business I know what a challenge it can be to find good employees!! Lawanda was awesome! I am for sure going to book my kids and I for eye visits this fall because of her!! I have gone to this location twice requesting unscheduled "pseudo-urgent" eye exams and both times they were able to squeeze me into the schedule (July '10- inflamed, hurting eye & June '11- blunt impact to the eye). In both instances, the staff was friendly and efficient. As a walk-in, they were able to get me in to see the optometrist within 45 minutes the 2010 visit and within 15 minutes on the 2011 visit. Victoria Alfafara, the optometrist, was equally friendly and very helpful. She quickly diagnosed the issue in each instance and provided professional care. In the latter case, she explained what symptoms to look for over the following day and she referred me to an ophthalmologist just in case any were to arise. While I have not yet had a standard eye exam or bought glasses from this location, it will be my first stop next year when I'm due for my checkup. I went there the first time because of its location. Loved the doctor, but the front desk people weren't really that helpful. I had to return one of the glasses back because they kept falling off my face. I told myself I would never go back. Well, since I couldn't find another place last year that took my insurance, I ended back here again. Again, loved the doctor. But as soon as it was time to choose a frame, I got bombarded by ALL the front desk people! Because of my budget, I stayed in the tiny $99 section. But they all started grabbing the expensive frames from the "CASE" and telling me to try this and try that. Ok, thats all cool, but dang, give a gal some space! It been over a month and I am YET to get my glasses. Bill is about $340 for ONE pair of glasses (thinner lens, transitions and anti glare). I paid $200 year before at Americans Best for TWO pairs and the same lens!) No matter what, I will never go here again. Again, staff is super nice, but come on! Don't bombard the customers with the super expensive stuff! There is nothing EXPRESS about this place, unless you call a month an express service. read more

My husband and I scheduled an appointment for a Saturday, a day before our appointment they called us to say that the doctor was unable to attend us because she had something to do. That we thought was understandable, so we rescheduled. Once our appointment came up we went in and got examined. After my examination the doctor called my husband in the room and showed her how "blind" I was. I felt a bit uncomfortable and thought that was very unprofessional. After we went ahead and picked out our glasses. Our total came out to be $585 after insurance coverage. My husband and I felt that we got treated as if we weren't going to be able to pay for the services. One of the ladies even made a remark about how we weren't going to be able to pay for that. They made us feel uncomfortable. I worked in office settings with customers and believe me when I say that I've never treated my clients as the people here have treated my husband and I. I don't know if they thought we were poor because we're a young couple with two kids under two, but that's still not a valid excuse for making a paying customer feel like that. Anyway today my mom picked up my glasses for me, and even though they were paid for they tried charging her again. My mom said that I had already paid for them, and they got upset that they had to check the system for proof, I understand it was almost closing time, but we paid for the services. Overall I feel like they were rude and unprofessional, my husband and I will be taking our business elsewhere. read more

After 6 years, they have lost me as a customer. I should not have returned to this particular site after my last experience 3 years ago, which also involved unsatisfactory customer service and a mistake by the same staff with ordering my prescription glasses. I had to return 2 times until they realized I used different prescriptions for lenses for each eye. This time, the issue was how long it took for my glasses to arrive. After 7 days I began to call them to ask if the my order had arrived. By the 10 th day I began to lose faith and confidence that the order was even placed. On the 14th day of waiting I called to see if my glasses were ready. Finally they had arrived, but then moments later I was notified the "LAB" had made a mistake, and that they would have to re-order my glasses, and that it possibly be another 2 weeks. Okay, fair enough, mistakes happen. But when it happens every time I order glasses from the Pearle Vision North Riverside store, it's not a coincidence: IT'S INCOMPETENCE. Save yourself the time, money, and aggravation and avoid this place. If you work here, please consider changing professions. If you own this particular store, you may want to evaluate how it's being run before it's too late. The "one star" rating was place just so I could post this review. read more

I have purchased my last three pairs of glasses from this store. First pair in 2007. No problem. Second pair in 2009. It took a week and a half for them to come in. I need bifocals and I have an astygmatism. I am a firm believer that I should be able to see clearly the first time I put the glasses on. Aparently, Pearle doesn't agree. I put the glasses on and I could tell that something was wrong. When I pointed out that, they told me to try them for a week. When I insisted that they needed to fix them, they were visibly upset. They remeasured and determined that the reading part of the bifocal was set to high. Two weeks later, they got it right. In June 2011, time for new glasses again. Doctor was great, they were friendly, placed the order. Ten days later, I went in, put the glasses on and it was obvious that something was wrong. The right lens was wrong and the left lens was a different shape than the right. At first, they pretended that they didn't see a problem. Then they admitted they could see that there was a problem. I told them that I thought the frames were the problem. They said it was the lens and they would order a new one. Two weeks later, right lens is fine, left lens is still messed up. They didnt have a solution to fix the left lens. I decided to get different frames. Two weeks later, I get glasses that, after some adjustment, work just fine. However, there is a small spot on the right lens. It appears that the anti glare coating is missing from that spot. They ordered a new lens. Two weeks later, I go to get the new lens. It is the wrong prescription. They insist it is right. Forget the fact that it makes my eye feel like it is being twisted. I had them put the lens with the spot back in. Oh, and I had to pay $8.00 for the price difference in the frames. You think that they may have waived the fee for the inconveniences, but no. To many errors. No apologies. Too long to get the glasses in. No way in the world would I go back. $280 after insurance is too much to pay for poor quality and service. read more

Worst customer service!! I made an appointment for my son Monday over the phone for today Thursday, receptionist never called to confirm appt yesterday but calls me one hour before appointment today that the appointment is cancelled because she didn't realize that doctor is gone at the time of the appointment. What kind of customer service is that!! It was the same receptionist I spoke to Monday to schedule the appt. I even told her it's hard for me to take take him at the appointment and I needed the latest appt available. Just the worse!! Going somewhere else!! read more

I had problems with their former military man optometrist on their staff. He was rude, unyielding on procedures, and his prescription was way off from that of my opthalmologist. That should have been the end of my experience with this place, but their manager Linda is so pleasant and professional to deal with. They accept more insurance carriers than LensCrafters, however, their eyeglass selection, as well as their other local stores, is wanting compared to LensCrafters. The rest of their staff is unpleasant and are not nearly as adept in handling the eyecare needs of their customers as they think they are. I got an anti-reflective coating for my glasses. It was an additional $120 and it wiped off in a day. Their staff members accused me of cleaning my glasses with chemicals. It did not even cross their mind that the glasses were made without sealing the coating on it. Even though they stressed that the glasses were warrantied, they operated on a "first accuse the customer" basis. They had no concept of the business mantra, "The customer is always right even when he is wrong." When they re-made my eyeglasses a second time, another staff member wiped off the anti-reflective coating again. They finally admitted that the lenses were not made right. So far, I hope the third time is the charm. Another staff member did not know how to balance my glasses properly in her adjustment. I tried to show her how glasses should be balanced upside-down and she kept worrying about how they wrapped around my ear. I left in disgust and will have LensCrafters do the balancing next time. All, except for Linda and possibly the other manager, treat their clients like they are low class, ignorant people. They should look in the mirror or get their eyes checked. read more
