I've been a Kirk patient since I was a kid-- my dad has been a patient of theirs for even longer. I had moved away, but have returned to help my parents. I always thought of them as completely trustworthy, but recently they performed magic for me. TLDR: Hiral Patel gave me the best prescription I've had in almost two decades and Viviana Cano eased my anxiety over switching back to contact lenses after almost three decades of wearing only glasses. Now, all the extra details. Last year, my vision was so bad that I applied for blind disability. My mom and dad insisted that I come home and go to Kirk for a definitive evaluation. Five hours into the appointment, my future was bleak. The final recommendation, a week later, was surgery. My parents were totally ready and willing to pay for it, but I hate spending their money and put it off put if off put it off. I'm going to skip the specifics on the stuff about the bad diabetic protocol prescribed by my primary and how I ginned up the courage to change my own insulin dosage and how that probably saved my life and jump right to the day when a friend told me that her eyes didn't track together and she didn't see in stereo but wearing hard lenses gave her real vision for several hours a day. I immediately thought "let's get me over to Kirk and ask them about this." I was almost too shy to make the appointment, but the possibility of being able to drive again was too seductive. I called and set the time. I got there an hour early. David and I sat in the parking lot eating precut watermelon from Jewel (same plaza.) I was nervous. Doctor Patel strutted to the lobby to grab me for my examination and I was immediately filled with confidence. Anyone with that much personal security must be great at their job. I was not disappointed. "I want this to work," I offered. She smiled quickly and told me "remember to blink." I'm drowning you in minutiae. Let me bring this to a 10/10 conclusion: my vision is now corrected to 20/20 (I can read a sign from three blocks away!) and the lenses correct my astigmatism and keep my eyes in line. Now: Viviana. When I asked her to take a selfie that she liked (for me to use in this review,) she is so humble that she didn't immediately understand that it was to praise and appreciate her. She's extremely deserving of both. I came in two days after my miracle exam, not sure if I had successfully removed the acuvue daily lens from my right eye. She took a peek and confirmed that it was out, and placed an order for some more trial lenses so that I could make sure it was the right fit for me. I came in again today with both lenses still in and significant anxiety over that fact. Today, Viviana removed the lenses and gave me a comforting tutorial that I think might help (and then listened patiently and socially awkward me gave her an unsolicited lesson on trafficking of vulnerable groups in rural areas that flowed from my rant against Loyola facepalm. Last week, I accompanied my 79-year-old neighbor to a follow-up appointment for her glaucoma surgery, scheduled for September 11, 2025. During the visit, we informed the technician that she was struggling to see clearly through her prescribed glasses. Upon conducting a routine examination, the technician discovered that the prescription in the lenses was incorrect. In fact, the prescription was reversed in the lenses. (It's worth noting that...) One week after purchasing the prescribed glasses for $130 (since their optical only accepts cash and doesn't accept insurance), we called the optical department to inform them that she couldn't see out of them. They assured us it was only temporary. Three weeks later, we called back and were given the same assurance. After the technician examined her eyes, the doctor came in to reexamine them. He adjusted her prescription slightly from the previous 20-minute exam and apologized for the lenses getting mixed up. He assured us that the issue would be corrected. We went to the optical department to have the glasses remade. I spoke with the optical manager and requested a refund for my 79-year-old neighbor, who had to pay $130. She wouldn't have had to pay if they had explained that she could take her prescription to another place that would make the glasses using her insurance. I explained that the inconvenience and the fact that they remake the glasses at their expense justified the refund. The optical manager asked if we had asked the doctor for a refund, and we hadn't because we thought the optical would handle it since the mistake was made there. She said she would ask the doctor. We waited about 15 minutes and she came back saying they couldn't refund us, but they would correct their mistake. I expressed my dissatisfaction, but I wasn't rude or loud. As we were leaving the store, I told my neighbor that I would write a review about the experience. The optical manager jumped up and said yes, thank you, and she was going to tell the doctor. I said okay, thanks, and she rushed to the back. My neighbor had to use the restroom, and while we were there, our friend (a Caucasian young girl) waited for us. The lady behind the desk and the optical manager (now back from the back room) said to her, "I'm sorry you had to deal with people like them." Who are "them"? African Americans. This is a clear case of discrimination, unprofessionalism, and disrespect. Don't patronize this establishment. Try McCarthy Eye Center in Oak Park. In July 2023 my father had an eye problem that needed immediate attention. Dr. Tyler Kirk saw my father quickly and went above and beyond to resolve the problem. I was referred here by my eye doctor when I mentioned interest in LASIK. The consultation alone sold me - Dr. Kirk and all of his staff were SO kind, the surgical coordinator Joyce was wonderful and talked me through all my options, so LASIK was a no brainer after that. The actual procedure was quick, the nurses and medical assistants were awesome, Dr Kirk walked me through everything and I knew how to get ahold of him in case something went wrong. I went to Kirk Eye Center on Harlem Ave in Chicago last spring. I have scarring on my cornea from an injury nearly 40 years ago. After an exam, It was recommended that I receive a corneal transplant. I agreed and was scheduled for the procedure at their River Forest location. A few days later, they called and said my insurance wouldn't cover this unless it was done in a hospital. Great. Scheduled the procedure to be done at Illinois Masonic. A few days later they called and said a scheduling conflict would not allow it to be done on that date. They said that they would call me with a new date. They never called back. I waited weeks. My time and money were wasted ( I had to pay my deductible and co-pay) for the appointment and tests. I also payed co-pays for medications that they prescribed that I needed to get before the procedure. I will not go back. Something is wrong with this place. read more

I had surgery for cataract and glaucoma this year, and the post surgery care was horrible. I had a problem with my eye (it was red and hurt) and Kirk's kept saying to just get the other eye done and it will clear up. That did not make sense to me. Instead of investigating what was going on, they said on several occasions that they didn't know what is wrong. No referral to a specialist, they just wanted me to get the other eye operated on to make more money. A friend referred me to U of Ill hospital eye clinic and they found that I had a lot of inflammation in the back of my eye. I quickly changed doctors and wish I had done it sooner, as it's taking longer to get it cleared up. I am black and well educated, and an experience like this makes me wonder if they ignored my concerns because of the color of my skin. I would never recommend this group to anyone. read more

When I made my appointment I was reassured my insurance would cover my visit but as I was leaving after my exam was over I was told insurance doesn't cover routine eye exams and had to pay out of pocket for everything. I'm an overall healthy 42 year old male that just moved from the city to River Forest and have had a developing pterygium in one eye. Had gone once to MyEyeDr in Lincoln Park and received very good advice, a few different types of eye drops to try and a pair glasses to block out the blue light that could be a cause of the redness that had been increasing in the affected eye. Needless to say the affected eye was not improving enough and I wanted to stay on this issue as I value my eyes. so when I moved in literally a block away from the Kirk Eye Center I thought....well...these will definitely be my guys. Nice looking building, a literal family of eye doctors, how could they not be good at what they do??? From the moment I walked in I could tell that this place had so much work they didn't know what to do with it all. As the process started I got the feeling that that I was on an assembly line, which made me nervous....once I got my turn to sit down and talk with one the the Kirk sons, I think Kent but to be honest I don't care what his name was because I will never walk in those doors again. I had to lead the conversation from the get go and got the feeling that the Doctor was very distracted and might of even had somewhere else that he needed to be. Not a good feeling as the patient obviously. I asked as many questions as I could think of but I came to the "professional" to get information about my issue, not bring up points that I had researched already. His answers to my questions were short, he immediately suggested surgery. As he explained it my jaw dropped. Literally ZERO other options than some sort of a graft of a portion of my eye on to the affected portion. Stitches, possible scarring and a 14-21 day recovery period. Ok....what is that surgery like I asked...He responds with..."It's pretty basic....I do a ton of them" Ok....well that sucks and the overall casualness of his answer just bugged me. I really wanted to try to avoid surgery...I have perfect vision as of now and would love to try anything other that surgery. At least give it a go!! Right?? Sensing my disbelief in his suggestion he humored me and took some photos of my eye THROUGH HIS IPHONE...tossed me a free bottle of liquid tears and basically left the room. I was crushed. Not just eye surgery but a graft of my eye sewn on to another portion of my eye. I had to get a second opinion. So, back to the Lincoln Park team that I had previously seen. They spent over an hour and half with me. Took detailed photos of my eyes through machines that were clearly designed to take photos of your eye. Not an Iphone through a magnifying glass. They did say that surgery was a possible outcome but that the surgery suggested by the Kirk's was archaic and can absolutely lead to scarring and a high probability of poor vision as a result. The doctor then pointed me in the direction of what she considered the best eye drops for what I was suffering from and then referred me a an eye plastic surgeon. The eye drops have changed the game almost instantly. So much less redness and the pterygium has calmed down exponentially. I don't think my journey with my eye is over but I can't believe how quickly I was pushed to "basic surgery" from the Kirk's. Reading other reviews, I am not alone....Be careful with these guys. They might be a family of eye doctors but I'm fairly certain that the passion and care for their patients has been lost somewhere along their journey to their obvious financial success. Eyes are important and your eye doctor should care....and care A LOT. I feel bad for the 50 plus elderly people that were in that waiting room with me most likely being pumped through the Kirk eye conveyor belt. I don't like writing negative reviews like this but this was brutal and has to be shared. I've also sat on this for over a month thinking my disgruntled feelings would fade. I am glad to have chosen Kirk Eye Center to get my Lasik surgery done. From start to finish the experience could not have gone better. I went in for my free consultation where my eyes were thoroughly examined and I was told I was a candidate. Dr. Kent Kirk thoroughly explained the procedure to me and what I could expect afterward as well as the timeline of how my vision would progress. He took the time to answer all of my questions, and I did not feel rushed at all, which I have experienced quite a bit with other doctors and what I gleaned from other people's reviews of some of the "cattle call" Lasik centers in the area. The day of the procedure, I was at the surgery center for less than an hour and a half. I didn't have to wait at all, and the process was streamlined but again, I did not feel rushed. The staff was so nice and seemed genuinely concerned that everything went well. Dr. Kirk explained the process and it went exactly as he said it would go. It was about 30 seconds of total time under the lasers for each eye and the process was nowhere near as uncomfortable as I had imagined. Dr. Kirk gives you his cell phone number to call if you need anything or have any issues. I went home and took a nap, and Dr. Kirk called me that night to make sure everything was okay which is a nice touch. By the next day my vision was restored to a level it hasn't been since I was 20 years old! It has been 4 days and so far so good. Just like you always hear, my only regret is that I didn't do this sooner! Great experience, great staff, great doctor, I highly recommend Kirk Eye Center. read more

Just had LASIK surgery on both eyes. Dr. Kent Kirk and his entire staff were amazing! True angels. Joyce the LASIK coordinator is awesome. She talked me through everything from financing to post op instructions. Dr. Kent talked me thru the whole procedure and even gave his cell number in case of any concerns. Chad along with the other nurses were incredible. The only staff I had a terrible encounter with was Susana at the surgical center on the phone and in person. She can't handle working with clients. Went there for an assessment and consultation on cataracts. Poor service. Treated like a piece of meat going through an assembly line. So glad I got a second opinion. By the way, don't assume that their "laser" removal of cataracts is better. Educate yourself. I have learned that the only places that state laser removal is more beneficial are the places who own laser equipment. Educate yourself and save the $1500 out of pocket expense. I had ICL surgery done last month and it has been life changing. Dr. Kirk was informative, helpful and answered every single question I had before and after surgery. The timing of my recovery overlapped with some personal plans, and Dr. Kirk and his staff went out of their way to still schedule my first few appointments on days and/or times that they don't normally schedule patients in order to ensure that everything looked and felt good after the procedure. I had a cataract in my left eye that was really bothering me. I made an appointment to see Dr. Kent Kirk in late December 2021. I can't tell you how happy I am with the "entire" experience at Kirk Eye Care. It is now late January 2022 and I have had cataract surgery on both eyes. I am wowed at the difference in my vision. I can read without glasses for the first time in 60 years. All of the staff at Kirk are wonderful helpful folk. The whole process ran so smoothly, I am amazed. I had a mixed appointment here. I experience an ocular migraine and had no idea what it was (wavy vision out of nowhere, very scary). My doc referred me to Kirk Eye Center. Overall, I had a decent experience. The nurses/office people were very nice. During my time with one of the Dr. Kirks (there's three and I honestly am not sure which one I saw) I asked how I would know I was having another ocular migraine and not something much more serious--like a stroke (pertinent because of my family's history of having strokes and dying). Dr. Kirk said something like, "Well, you'd also be speaking gibberish..." (I read up online later and the symptoms between the two are very, very similar). And I nodded, not entirely comfortable. Then Dr. Kirk turned to my husband and said, "Oh but how would you know since *they* all speak gibberish!" "They" meaning us dumbass women, I guess! I try to be polite about dumb misogynistic jokes but given I had just been expressing something important and scary--AND I AM THE PATIENT--for him to turn around and insult me and all women I was just not amused. Also? I'm just TIRED of men insulting me to ingratiate themselves to my husband! (I eventually tried to explain this point to the doctor but he was not interested in hearing it). Anyway, my husband mentioned it to the doctor as we were leaving--we only mentioned it because the nurse told us we should let the doc know how we were feeling--and the doctor was not only NOT in any way apologetic but he basically made it seem like we were being unreasonable for even mentioning his joke was in poor form. I paid, told him how I felt, he never really apologized and I left. I knew I was right to confront him when a couple of different nurses/office workers apologized to me profusely. I can't imagine what it must be like to work for a guy that thinks misogyny is so hilarious. My sympathies to the ladies in his office! Two stars because everybody but Dr. Kirk was nice and everybody was efficient. edited to add: I also disliked their check-in service. Don't waste your time with this place. I tried to schedule a consultation to see what type of vision correction would best suit my eyes, if any. I was told that they could not schedule a consultation unless I knew exactly what procedure I was going to have done. How in the world would I know? I'm not an eye doctor. There are many options that this place claims to offer, so how would I know which one suits me best? I was told on the phone to "read through the website". You mean the website that says to call you to schedule a consultation to "DISCUSS YOUR OPTIONS"?! If they can't even schedule a consultation, I certainly wouldn't trust them with my vision. read more

ONE star is too high! Dr. Kirk performed LASIK on my eyes and botched my right eye so badly, after two attempts and a desire to lift the corneal flap a THIRD time to remove epithelial tissue before then wanting to again perform a third enhancement, I went to a prestigious doctor for a second opinion who warned me to stay away from this mad scientist! Unfortunately, Kirk had already removed so much corneal tissue and had ablated off-center that he had created new distortions in my eye that were not there prior to the surgery. My new doctor was very limited in what he could do to fix my eye for the third time. He did perform a PRK procedure because he refused to lift the corneal flap a third time like Dr. Quack Kirk had proposed, so after many weeks of healing, I now see a blurry 20/25. Dr. Kirk is nothing more than an assembly line set-up who cares nothing for his patients and has no ethical practices. He will repeatedly perform procedures when ethically, he should not. We are talking about your vision here! I am SO lucky I listened to my gut instinct and got the hell out of there before I let him touch my eye ever again! BEWARE! Plus, he is one of the most expensive LASIK surgical doctors out there, and he does nothing above and beyond the service and skill you can find in other places. I wish I could have saved myself the $5400 I spent and gone to my wonderful doctor who saved my vision in the first place! Do your research...get referrals...check AMA and other places before you trust anyone with your important sense of vision, which these guys so carelessly take for granted! read more

Similar to other reviewers here, my wife and I WERE patients here for over a decade. In the end we decided to see another ophthalmologist when the staff at Kirk grew increasing more surly and when we were repeatedly subjected to "bait and switch" tactics regarding which specific physician we were scheduled to see. Understandably this is a busy practice, and emergencies and random events do happen, but after years of seeing one doctor (who we were both comfortable with) to then on multiple occasions show up for scheduled appointments NOT to be informed of the fact that Dr. S. would be unavailable mind you, we were simply prepped and dumped in a room where Dr. K. would appear and would not even acknowledge the switch. When asked, he would always have a dismissive answer as though we were out of line for questioning the switch...this to me, is wholly unacceptable. Going beyond the unacceptable and approaching the unconscionable is the way Dr. K. addressed me as a patient when he would persistently try to "sell me" on the idea of Lasik. At my last appointment going so far as to instruct me to "start saving my pennies" when I told him I wasn't interested in Lasik surgery. Mind you I never indicated that I could not afford the surgery or that the cost was prohibitive, I simply said I "wasn't interested in having an elective eye surgery." Save yourself the aggravation and find another ophthalmology group, there are several groups in the Chicago area, full of skilled, competent, and respectful clinicians and staff...sadly Kirk is no longer one of them. read more

Each time I visit, I receive the same courteous treatment and respect that makes me want to return and also to recommend the Drs Kirk to friends of mine. I have had cataract surgery there, get routine tests such as visual fields and get my pressure checked. From surgery to emergency appointments I have never doubted that I was I the best of hands for every situation. The staff is patient and kind and the doctors make sure to inquire about how you are feeling and ask about things you have been up to. I can't say enough. I saw the one star review and feel I need to do what I can to wipe out what that one unfortunate phone call is doing to the Kirk Eye Center's rating. Eight years ago I had my "legally blind" classified vision repaired with the help of Dr. Kirk and his lasik surgery. The surgery was quick and the Valium they give you before is helpful in calming your nerves. We're talking about your eyes here, lasers on your eyes. You're awake and you can smell the burning. So yea...take the Valium. As soon as you're done you sit up and can see. It's absofuckinglutely amazing. You pick up some pain meds at the pharmacy on the way home and then sleep with goggles on until the eyes heal themselves beyond the pain. I, though, woke up only a few hours after my surgery in unbearable pain. I found my husband and had him call Dr. Kirk on his cell phone. It was 11:00 PM., he would have to pick up the medication from his office and meet us. I lived in Roger's Park then, the Doctor was at a fund raiser in Hyde Park, my magic eye drops were in Forest Park. We met on Columbus Drive. Dr. Kirk was in his tuxedo and asked to have the pleasure of administering my drops; they worked immediately. "My hero," I said. My husband sighed a big sigh and then off went my knight in his BMW back to his fundraiser. He called the next day to see how I was doing even before I came in for my appointment. This kind of care and attention is why I highly recommend the place. The Center is named for this man and his brother, it is their care and skill that I'm rating. read more

If you need your eyes checked out, I would definitely go here. The people are nice and your appointment generally starts on time. The doctors are very good and know what they are doing. Th exam is also usually fast, yet very thorough. As a testimonial to how good this place is, people from far aways suburbs come here. in fact, when i last went, one guy was in town from another state and thought that as long as he is in town, he should come here since he was here a long time ago. Don't get me wrong though, while the cost of the exam is cheap, the glasses and contact lenses will cost more here than at Lens Crafters. But the doctors always know what they are doing. read more

I am so excited with the result of my Lasik operation at Kirk Eye Center. Since I am so pleased with how the operation went and the result. Here is the overall experience of my procedure. 1. Free consultation / follow up questions I had a Mini-Monovision or Laser Blended Vision as you will find on the internet. Yes, I was scared of having each eye with different visions. Dr. Kent Kirk along with Ms. Joyce Walter covered all questions and concerns I had prior to the operation. 2. Pre-op preparation Usual blood pressure check, eye drops, choice to take sedative pill...I wouldn't go without it. Nurses were professional and courteous, Dr. Kent also took time to answer additional questions. 3. Creating cornea flap operation Kirk utilize laser cutting method, this is safer than manual cutting method, which I liked. Only thing is that it is a bit awkward, since you will feel heavy pressure and lose sight on that eye temporary. All I did was just focus on center light and being steady as much as possible as Dr. Kent encouraged me to do so by saying "Doing great, perfect and etc etc" for less than 30 seconds each eyes. 4. Lasik operation Allegretto WAVE Eye-Q Excimer Laser System. This machine automatically trace your natural eye movements to eliminate miss firing of laser and it stops, if you move your eye out of the machine's tolerance. All I did was to keep my eye steadily on green flickering light as Dr. Kent also encouraged me to do. During the procedure, green light do move around and the light become fuzzy. What I did is to chase the green light as much as possible and also try to focus on the center of the fuzzy green light. No worries, I did have a few moments I could not locate the green light, if then, I just focused my eye on where the green light was until see it again. 5. Recovery, day of the operation You will feel sedated from sedative and you will not be able to open your eyes well enough to see. So, when I got home, I immediately wore protective goggles and went to sleep for 3~4 hours, this is easy since you feel sedated. Your eyes will be extra sensitive, so make sure room is pitch black. Don't worry about eye drops, just sleep it away. I woke up with decent eye sight, enough to function around the house, I still kept wearing sunglasses around the house in dark setting with no TV nor electric devices to soften my eyes hoping for faster healing. 6. Follow up appointment and 1st day I found my eyes already recovered enough to drive. Feeling is very similar to after swam in a pool full of chlorine... Dr. Kent confirmed my combined vision is 20/20, then Dr. tap on my elbow and said "you god 20/20 vision!"...My eyes were still fuzz, so I was still a bit skeptic... I drove to work after the appointment and followed recommended eye drop routines, I even used more tear eye drop (every 30 min) as I found that eyes need moisture to heal. My eyes did not show improvements throughout the day, but they were good enough for me to drive home at night in rain. No depth perception nor weird feeling issue due to Mini-monovision... 8. 2nd day after the surgery I woke up with almost 90% of the fuzziness gone...I found myself totally amazed/shocked by the clarity of my vision... There is a tree in front of our balcony which is about 30 feet away 3 story height. I can even see crease and dark spot on a leaf almost to the top of the tree 30 feet away. If this is the result from Mini-Monovision / Laser Blended Vision (one for nearsighted, another for farsighted correction). I am now a true believer and I am sure my eyes were never this good in my life...what an amazing result this is...I drove to work still wearing sunglasses and tear eye drop every 30 min as thinking of the last 10% clarity... I am still a bit light sensitiveness, but I am so sure it will subside as it progress, I cannot even wait for next few days of improvements to come... read more

I have been wearing glasses/contacts since 2nd grade, and decided that my 30th birthday present to myself would be LASIK surgery. As a physician, my eyes are extremely important to my future ability to work, so I wanted the best care I could find. After talking with several local residents who have received LASIK, it seemed evident that Kirk Eye Center provided the best care in the area. With something as important as my vision, I wanted to be in the best hands. My experience did not disappoint. My initial appointment to determine if I was to be a good candidate for LASIK surgery was handled extremely professionally, and the explanation that Dr. Kent Kirk provided me with how the surgery worked, side effects, and what to expect afterwards was superb. I was able to schedule my surgery at the NovaMed surgery center three months later (he performs the surgery once a month). Katie, the surgery coordinator, was extremely helpful and cooperative in setting up all the details. The day of the surgery, I felt well cared for by the surgery staff and coordinators. Dr. Kirk again explained what he would be doing, what to expect, and how long everything would take. The whole procedure took less than an hour, I went home to take a 4 hour nap (thank you, valium) with some mild burning relieved by an anti-inflammatory eye drop, and besides some increased tear production initially, today have better than 20/20 vision. I could not be happier. Dr. Kirk even called that evening to personally check in to see how things were going. Again, I am a fairly new physician who interacts with many patients every day. It can sometimes get busy which can manifest itself in staff becoming agitated. However, as busy as Dr. Kirk must be, the care and professionalism demonstrated by him and his staff was textbook. I knew that I had to go to the eye doctor, as my eyesight seemed to be getting worse and worse, and that it was quite possibly because of cataracts. Not being able to see up close is in my estimation, somewhat of a relative issue, but driving at night was becoming more difficult. Halos on headlights or any type of street light was soon going to be a limitation. I came to Dr. Kent Kirk because my former eye doctor had retired after many years and my files had been transferred to the Kirk Eye Center. I found Dr. Kent Kirk to be very professional and knowledgeable about the procedures that he would be doing on my eyes. He took me through the procedure step-by-step. I actually decided to have the cataract surgery performed on my left eye, just two days before my birthday. Though I was a bit apprehensive, I found that everything that was done, was exactly what had been outlined. One thing that I had learned prior to the surgery was that cataract surgery was first performed in about 1750 and I really figured that this surgery would go with no issue. Little did I know that the surgery would go way better than I could have imagined. I found that on the way home, I already could see more clearly, whether it was license plates on vehicle around me, street signs, or even brighter interior lights. My left eye was markedly improved. I came back the next day for the post-surgery follow-up and Dr. Kirk was quite pleased with his work, as was I. He did ask when I wanted to do the right eye and I immediately told him - asap! I was able to have the appointment for the right eye surgery, 13 days later. This time the cataract surgery went easily, as well as the first. The big difference was there was very little apprehension on my part. Again, I was amazed at how well my vision had improved on the way home. In fact, I don't really know if I had ever seen as well as I do now. I had glasses from when I was first in grammar school, but I went away from glasses and in to contacts in about December of 1974. I was working as a rookie policeman and was assigned to a "bank robbery in progress" call. When I entered the bank, my glasses fogged up. Within days, I made the appointment for contacts. From December 1974, I never wore glasses again. Now with the cataract surgery done on both eyes, I find that I do not need glasses for distance, and, amazingly, I will only need reading glasses that are at the lower end of the prescription range and that depends on just how small the letters are. All things considered, this may have been one of the best choices that I have ever made. At my age, I can probably say that my knee replacement was good, but, you know, there is nothing like being able to see clearly. Dr. Kent Kirk and his staff, both at the normal visits and the two surgery visits were fantastic. They exhibited a great deal of professionalism and, I must say that I was quite impressed with just how routine they could make this surgery. If you are unsure, I say - go for it! I came here last week. I had gotten R-K surgery done here many years ago. I have had a rapid decrease in vision for reading over the past several months--and a slight decrease in distance vision as well. On the advice of my excellent primary care physician, who was concerned, I had been to two other eye doctors. They were wonderful, kind, caring, informative and completely covered by insurance. I knew I would have to pay out of pocket but wanted to find out if Dr. Scott Kirk could perhaps do further surgery to repair my eyes so I could continue to go without glasses or at least have further insight than the other docs were able to provide. I am in an "appearance matters" profession and wanted to find out. I think the best way to share with you the impossibly rude, uncaring, dismissive, annoyed, unfriendly behavior I encountered with this doctor is to share specific quotes. "That's not my problem." "I don't care if you're vaccinated. You can still catch it and spread it." (Which is true but is that really an appropriate thing to say to a patient when she is just trying to be reassuring when asking to pull her mask down off her nose for a second because the eye machine viewing glass is steaming up?) "You're more trouble than other patients." "What are you depressed about? You should be glad it's correctable." (This after informing me he would not recommend or do the surgery and suggested bifocals.) When I told him I don't currently need distance glasses. I can still read street signs when driving. He snapped "Can you read THAT street sign?" Pointing to impossibly small letters projected on the wall when my eyes were dilated! Of course I couldn't read it when my eyes were dilated and you don't talk to patients that way! When he was testing my eyes he would ask which looked better--after flashing two different size letters--you know the drill. When I said "same" sometimes--because they looked the same to me--he snapped "That's not the right answer." (So he wants me to lie to speed up the process so he can get on to the next patient?) One reviewer described this as an assembly line place--I concur--at least with this doctor. At one point he put yellow drops in my right eye and did not even tell me what he was testing for. I was so shaken by his behavior that when I called with questions I asked to go through his assistant because I never want to talk to this person again. And the prices are crazy. I was supposed to go for a contact fitting that would have cost $125-$250. I am going to one of the previous eye doctors and they are only charging me $45. And only $50 for new prescription reading glasses. read more
