Some places were closed because it was a Saturday, and some told me that I need an appointment, and they can see me in about a week and a half. Well, I searched the web, and luckily I found this place, Express Optical. Even though they were busy, they still found time to see me, which I really appreciated. The staff was very friendly and courteous, and the doctor was phenomenal. The doctor was very professional and friendly, gave me a complete examination, from a to z. But above all took the time, did not rush, and answered all of my questions which really put me at ease. I got my prescriptions, and I was on my way, happy as can be. They remember me from when I mentioned the vacation and immediately went into action to find them. Since my glasses had lost their initial luster I found myself in need of replacements. I don't like shopping around like some people so I hit the computer and discovered they had a really good offer from LensCrafters. After getting a car and in need of a driving adventure I went up to the HIP -Harlem Irving Plaza in Norridge (just outside of Chicago). I grew up in this neck of the woods in my teens and could hardly recognize because of all the changes. The store is located in the mall thru the entrance of Kohl's. This LensCrafters is huge and spotless with a wide selection of frames. I had an appointment and was greeted upon arrival. I filled out the customary forms for personal info and insurance etc. Then Mike, the Team Lead asked for my glasses to examine the current condition of the script. Dr. Samantha Madro was my Optometrist and really did a fine job with the eye exam. I was amazed with the changes that have occurred with improvements in technology for exams. I was set up for regular glasses as well as sunglasses and a clear and concise report was produced. Onto Jennifer Priebe the Optician for the conclusion. I had an idea of the frames I wanted and I am sure glad I allowed her to show me alternatives. I did need an expert opinion aside from my ideas. Needless to say I went with one of the suggestions that Jennifer made. She then concluded with seeking my insurance info making sure I paid the proper price for my glasses and explained the entire process. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the store and the precautions they took with disinfecting for Covid. A big thank you to both Jennifer, Dr. Samantha and Mike for their excellent service and putting up with my comedic/sarcastic ways. I should have my trifocals in about 2 weeks and perhaps I will post a picture.

That day came, and the glasses were not ready. I also never received the call I was supposedly going to get the day before. I had to call myself to find out what was going on. I was told they would arrive on Monday. I called again on Monday, and they still had not arrived. I had to call again the following week, and I ultimately ended up waiting about a month and a half for my glasses. What makes this even more frustrating is that, after that experience, I decided to order a second pair. To this day, I still have not received them. What really stood out to me was that my partner ordered his glasses there after I ordered my second pair. He received text messages and a phone call letting him know his glasses were ready, and today he was able to pick them up. I went with him today and took the opportunity to express my frustration. What I expected was simply an apology and a clear explanation, but once again, I received more excuses than accountability. ‍

He and his staff have assisted both my younger daughter and me with transitioning to contacts. I was 52 at the time and did it because I was sick of my glasses fogging up with masks back in the beginning of COVID-19. The patience exhibited by Dr. Lau and his staff was wonderful. We both had problems learning how to insert and remove our contacts and at one point were making almost weekly visits for 'lessons'. I'm sure they were frustrated but he never complained. In fact, he told me multiple times I could call his cell phone when the office was closed if I was having problems. In short, he's really the best !
