25 years as a patient. I loved my eye doctor & would go to no one else. Last week, I was given a…read moremyriad of different communications. Two visits in two days, West Omaha to Bellevue. On both days a nurse was rude, condescending and insulting. On the second day I asked for a different nurse because she was so rude the day before. Two receptionists said I was given conflicting information. One receptionists TOLD the offensive nurse that I was given wrong information. I was verbally insulted by this nurse. Mocked by the same nurse. I spoke up & defended myself. I received a letter, unsigned, that I was dismissed as a patient. I asked twice to speak to the office manger, she refused to speak to me. It's poor office communication, poor office management & homophobia. The nurse was rude to me because of homophobia. I felt like I was in the movie Deer Hunter, when the Vietcong soldier kept slapping Jon Voight.

When Dr. Maw came into the exam room - just as I was preparing to leave - I politely and professionally asked why I was made to wait such an excessive time. His "holier-than-thou" attitude popped right out; he immediately told me he would not be doing my surgery-that we couldn't have a successful Dr/patient relationship when I felt the way I did. He then told me I would struggle to get into another practice in less than several weeks and "good luck getting your surgery done sooner than a few months." I left the office, went back to work, called Nebraska Medicine and got into a surgeon within the week. Never, ever would I recommend this physician and his "I went to Harvard" attitude!

When I was contemplating Lasik, he answered all my questions, even about lasik providers he hadn't initially recommended. They also have a good selection of glasses and they're helpful in determining how to max your vision benefits. I've recommended this place to many friends who also live in the area!

After trying three other optometrists, I began visiting Aksarben Eye Care about ten years ago. I've…read morebeen recommending them to my friends and co-workers ever since. There's just one optometrist here: Dr. Dozon. I've found Dr. Dozon to be extraordinarily good at listening, good at explaining what I don't understand, and competent and thorough in his exams. He's always contributing his services to the community, so by supporting his business, I feel like I'm also supporting a good cause. Despite the relatively small size, the office stays up-to-date with equipment and best practices. The vibe here is far different from most optometrists. The office is comfortable, unhurried, and personal. I always get the sense of being served, not "processed." The office has soft lighting and soft, comfortable furniture. The biggest downside is when selecting frames. The selection of frames is pretty good, but they are generally reluctant to special order if what you want isn't in stock. To achieve the best vision, it is vitally important that frames fit perfectly; unfortunately, the staff always encourage me to look at style first, and they're often unable to answer specific questions about sizing and fitting. To be honest, you shouldn't shop for glasses here unless you already know your bridge width, temple length, and lens width. If you do visit, be sure to ask for directions the first time. You have to go around back of the building then up to the second floor.
