They got me in right away when I had a tear in my eye. Dr Feilemeir could not have been better. He assured me that it would be okay and it was........ however, the billing dept was very eager to collect and one time I got a month behind and was sent to collections. Then I got pink letters in the mail even after the bill had been paid off two months prior. Standing in line to check into the front desk seems especially tedious for the older people that come in. Something should be done about that. Otherwise ok. Like the location. read more

I had a horrible experience. The gal that took me back to do the first test was rude and did not engage at all, the 2nd gal was no better. The dr was ok. They dilated my eyes handed me a prescription and told me to have a nice day. My son was seen at the Dodge St. office In August. We recently received a bill for $368.21. I called the billing office to inquire why he received that bill, since he has VSP and there should have been no charge for his eye exam. The first person I spoke to told me that he was given a medical eye exam not a routine wellness eye exam so I asked to speak to a supervisor to get further explanation. The billing supervisor wasn't immediately available, but she called me back later that day. I told her that my son did not consent to that exam; and that if he did receive a medical exam he should have been informed that it would not be covered under VSP. No one told him that; I have a written statement from him detailing the events of that appointment. In anger, the billing supervisor hung up on me. I called back and asked to speak to her again. I requested the transcript of the appointment in August of 2024 when she claims that he was told that he needed a medical exam and that it would not be covered by VSP; she refused to provide that information. I requested to see any consent for billing documents that my son signed; she again refused to provide that information. I asked her if I could please speak to her supervisor and she told me she does not have a supervisor. She then hung up on me for the second time. I then called the office and requested to speak to the office manager. The office manager called me and left me a voicemail. In his voicemail, he said " I have nothing to add." Essentially, dismissing my concerns. I called back and told him that it was not communicated to my son that the exam was not going to be covered by VSP. He provided no further explanation or documentation of consent. I went on to express my disappointment as a customer that I was hung up on twice. No apology was given. His only response was "We do not record phone calls." I am extremely frustrated by the experience with Midwest Eye Care. I am asking for the documentation that was requested and I sincerely hope that basic customer service policies will be addressed with the staff. read more

If you use them (which I do not recommend), do all your work ahead of time with your insurance or Midwest Eye Care will process your insurance as Medical Eye Exam instead of Routine Eye Exam that are covered. They will also NOT reprocessing anything for you instead having you pay them. Also, you wait an insane amount of time for any appointments you have. Do not use them. read more

I went in for a specific eye exam sent to me through my employer. As i specified, the areas on the sheet needed to be filled out, which they said they could do. The eye exam ended up being about 1/8 completed, and my eyes were dilated for no reason as the exam did not call for that. As well as they were wrong when they said our insurance was in network, so now we're stuck paying a hefty bill for a poor eye exam. The people were nice, but clueless. read more

I was disappointed in Dr Emig. He was put out that I wanted to discuss dry eye at my annual appointment. He let me know he is a retinal specialist and seemed dry eye is beneath him. I ended up making an appointment at Modern Vision Solutions, and they did let me talk about dry eyes and gave me many different options. Rating: ZERO As a new patient, i explained up front i needed a contact lens exam for monovision. My final prescription was for standard vision correction. Had to go through exam again. I was told that the dilation and retinal exam/testing would be billed to my high deductible health insurance as a medical exam. It was not explained that my entire visit would be billed against my health insurance, which now fits me with a bill for the entire cost out of pocket. I called and aske that they rebill the correct insurance, they refused. I have never had to pay more than $100.00 out of pocket for contact lens exam, fitting and retinal scans. My current bill: $396.00. What did I get for my money, a bad vision correction exam, no retinal images for comparison, poor customer service, and a huge out of pocket bill. I have a severe fear of vision loss. Extremely skeptical about surgery. I suffered with cataracts for quite some time. Wore thick glasses since I was 7 for about 40yrs. With his kindness and professionalism Dr Himebaugh snatched away my fears and successfully removed cataracts in both eyes while also improving my vision. I'm shocked and amazed at how skilled and kind he and the staff were. Extremely friendly, talked me through each step and explained everything to me. Very patient and light-hearted group of individuals. I thank Dr Himebaugh as well as the anesthesiologists Clark and Jonathan as well as everyone else who came to care for me. The warm blankets and being swaddled up were too notch comfiness. Everyone kept asking how I was doing/feeling and I would always respond GROOVY lol. I'm just proud of you guys for doing an amazing job. I would recommend this company and specifically Dr Himebaugh. Thank you again Dr Himebaugh, you did a phenomenal job worthy of praise. read more

My exam, physician, and follow up experiences were very good at 180th & Q. My attempts to reach someone for simple follow up questions regarding my contact lens order failed miserably. They do not have adequate staff nor trained staff to help with the most basic of questions. I submitted an email on 11/15 (over two weeks ago) based on their support information online and on my order confirmation. To date I've still not received a response. My attempts to follow up via phone were equally as frustrating. 7/8 phone calls went unanswered. My voicemail yesterday morning was not responded to after more than a business day. When I finally reached someone (called and hung up 4 times in an attempt to get someone to pick up, as I knew my voicemail wouldn't be returned), I received an ill equipped associate who didn't understand how ordering contacts through their website actually leveraged "yourlens.com". She argued with me that I didn't order contacts through your firm as my lens provider, and therefore wasn't entitled to a rebate code to submit to Bausch & Lomb. After about 10 futile minutes I left that call with no help. I went to the location today and was assisted within just a few minutes by a friendly and helpful staff member onsite. Overall, this is the type of service experience that goes down as one of THE WORST I've experienced. Needless to say, after many years of care from your office with multiple physicians I will not be returning. For those who remain patrons, I sure hope they make drastic improvements to their patient service and support. read more

I went for my annual eye exam today with Dr. Mizener. I have had cataract surgery and was experiencing some mild issues thinking I needed a new prescription. I was quickly checked in by a friendly and efficient young lady. I sat in the waiting room and was called within a 5-10 minutes. I was taken back to a room by Beth P. She was absolutely fabulous. I have worn glasses and contacts for over 60 years. Beth was just great. I asked her how long she has been doing this and she said "over 20 years" and I could tell she knew what she was doing. We completed my refraction and Dr. Mizener came in to look at my eyes talk with me. He was great also. I left feeling my eyes were in good hands with both Dr. Mizener and the wonderful Beth P. They ask you to arrive 10 minutes early and then make you wait. One time I waited 40 minutes and yesterday was 45 minutes. You do not get an update or an apology for being late/behind. The first time they tried to charge me for my appt since I was checked in. I am still hoping to not have that issue regarding yesterdays visit. They also have you pay two separate copays if necessary. One for contacts, and one for an exam. I am excited to go to a new place! read more

I've been coming here for about 3 years (Dodge St. location). The staff is always friendly, helpful, and answers all my questions. My appointments go smoothly and my prescription is always spot on, which hasn't always been the case with other eye doctors. I never feel like they are pushing anything on me and I've never had reason to doubt the expertise of the doctors. The glasses selection is OK, I would prefer more selection of higher end frames like MODO and Kate Spade. I'd definitely recommend if you're looking for a good, honest eye doctor! read more

It's all about the money... I have VSP through my employer and did not have cards yet in January... so my spouse who has separate coverage through UH, had gave the wrong insurance info. Since these initial apt, I had sent back atleast 3 statements with the corrected insurance information updated and had even been seen there afterwords several times since the initial apts for all 3 of my daughters. And they waited 7 months to tell me they don't have the insurance information updated (which they did for atleast one of my kids, thankfully) and that it's too late for them to bill VSP and that I need to pay out of pocket for all the appointments, as we were seen on several occasions there for each kiddo. I had them cancel all future appointments and I will wipe my hands of them... The customer service is beyond poor which is sad, because I thought the eye docs my girls seen were tremendous. We will find another doc/clinic. Why would a decent business wait 7 months.... when I've had several f/u apts and have brought corrected cards since then into the office, and have sent back multiple statements with the corrected info to tell me they won't bill my insurance for the initial eye exams? Unless you want to owe hundreds of dollars for basic eye exams and have them tell you too bad so sad... I'd recommend going literally anywhere else. As long as they get paid, they don't care if they screw over families with multiple children using their services. read more

Do not go there. My whole family has gone there for years and we will never go back. They do not care about their long-term patients. I went there this year to get my eye exam and at the pre-appointment desk for arranging billing, they asked if I had vision insurance, because they bill at a lower rate if you don't have it. I said I wasn't sure. They said they would send the bill to my insurance to see if they would pay. The insurance company said no. Then Midwest Eye care refused to lower the bill to the other rate. They never told me that they would not give me the lower rate if insurance wouldn't pay. I only tried this at their suggestion. I never would have agreed to try the insurance if I had known this. My family has gone there since about 2004. Never again. read more

The only bad thing I ever have to say about this establishment is the fact my appointments are never on time. As far as staff, I've never had a problem. Always get their messages in regards to pick ups and appointments. They always fill out work documentation right then and there. I've been coming to them for almost three years without any problems or hiccups. Whenever I see a bad review, I wonder why they treated you badly, was it maybe how you acted and treated them? I went to the 42nd St. location for many years while Dr. Madsen was my opthomologist. When he retired I started with Dr. Feilmeier at 133rd and California. Both are busy offices and I think both of the doctors I have seen are excellent. Never a problem checking in or with the billing. There is sometimes a wait as the office is very busy. There are many elderly patients at both facility and we have to remember that their exams may take longer as they move a bit slower than younger patients, thus putting our appointments a bit later than scheduled. The techs that do several tests for glasses and diaIate your eyes are professional and informative. Dr. Feilmeier did a thorough exam and answered all of my questions. I have always found that if I am polite to the staff anywhere, they are kind and patient with me. I tried to give a 5 star rating but this system wouldn't allow me to for some reason. read more

I have a corneal erosion in my left eye that Dr. Hanks diagnosed. I am very sad that he has retired now. I was transferred to Dr. Feldmeier. He seems ok, but I just cannot seem to get in with him. Every time I call with this issue, I end up frustrated after speaking with a medical assistant. I keep being told that the optometrist is just a good as the doctor. Not the case. I called and they got me in with a Dr. Dickinson. My appointment was at 9:20am. She finally decided to grace her appearance in the room at 11:35am. Explained that because I was being worked in, I had to wait until she saw all of her regular appointments for the day. Last time I will be going to this office for care. I will just have to find an MD who will take the time to care about my eye issue and not have to deal with incompetent medical staff who know nothing. The other bad thing is I ended up paying for a MD but only saw the OD that day. What a waste of money as my eye seems to be getting worse by the day. read more

I am very upset with the office staff. My family has been patients of this office for many many years. I called this afternoon to make an appointment for my husband and told the receptionist I would like a Saturday. Her response was "I am not sure this is alllowed" and put me on hold. When she finally came back she said he was unable to have a Saturday appointment since he didn't come to his last Saturday appointment and hadn't cancelled it. I explained I did cancel due to illness at the time. The girl was rude when trying to explain this. We decided then and there we didn't want to continue our long relationship with this office and I told her this is not a good policy. I h ad an appointment I had to wait a month scheduled for this week and advised willl no longer need their services. I am sure this is an office policy and employees have been directed by the physicians as to "ALLOW"appointments but I am very disappointed and irritated that we have to findca new eye doctor. read more

If I was rating convenience here it would be 5 Stars but overall it is lower because of price. They split contacts into 3 bills to make it look less expensive. I feel like the Doctors do the same thing no matter where you go anyway... "#1 or #2, #2 or #3, etc." Without insurance I paid $80 and $97.75 right off the bat the first day. I went here because my insurance changed and I had to find a new optician. I specifically asked for Dr. Greder based on "SA";s review of Midwesy eye care and Dr. Greder. A few things that you may or may not care about. This is a large office. 2-3 people to check people in. They need that many....its a process and lots of people were waiting. I sat in a room with a really nice lady who just works with contacts. Not a doctor/OD. I waited some more, then my eye exam was performed by a very nice and I'm sure very competent guy. He dilated my eyes (with drops) and left the room. Dr. Greder came in and gave me a once over. Make no mistake, he is every bit as nice as SA explained. My issue is I hoped that I would have a vision test by an OD...not just a retinal exam. Maybe I need to go back to a smaller office. read more

I have had appointments at Midwest Eye Care for at least 20 years. Most of the visits were related to Glaucoma. These visits included routine eye pressure checks and tests. The last few years have included visits for surgery related to Glaucoma. The doctors have always been knowledgeable, professional and friendly. The assistances were always helpful, respectful and friendly. The receiving staff were prompt, helpful and friendly. I have had several surgeries associated with my Glaucoma. The nurses, and other attendants in the surgery department were considerate and helped me feel relaxed as I was prepared for the surgery. They were all very professional. The waiting periods have been minimal. I have talked with other patients (friends and relatives) who have also visited the clinic and have not heard any complaints from them. I have been a patient of at least four of the doctors on staff and would recommend any one of them to others. I would like to thank all those who have provided care for me over these years. read more

I can't say enough good things about this business! I've been a patient there for years and have always been treated with respect. Today I had the good fortune to have Tera S. as my technician. She was so patient, kind and understanding and especially proficient at the refractory test! Tera definitely has the gift of kindness and compassion, I hope to get her my next visit. I also visited the Optical shop where I received excellent customer service from Rich J. He was honest and very tactful when recommending frames that would look best. He was also very knowledgeable about lens types as they related to my prescription. My only wish is that Dr. Mizener go to the La Vista office now and then, but I guess you can only stretch him so far! read more

I would never recommend anyone go here. I had an issue with my eye and saw Dr. Himebaugh (not my normal optometrist or location). He had me sit in an exam room for 20 minutes while he socialized/flirted with staff (I walked by him on my way to exam room so I could hear him the entire time as he was right outside the door). He then proceeded to give advice that I could have gotten myself from google with no medical degree necessary. He gave no meds and told me to come back in several weeks if the problem persisted. It's persisted but I refuse to go back after how unprofessional my visit was at Midwest Eye Care. I was then billed $180 for NOTHING. No sound medical advice or medicine to help my problem. I will never use this facility again and will be taking myself and my family to a new optometrist who values their patients and their patients health. I scheduled an appointment here after injuring my eye. I showed up a few minutes early for my appointment but was left sitting in the waiting room for 40 minutes, until I finally asked the front desk if it would be much longer. Of course they then took me right back to an exam room. After the assistant went through my medical history, I asked her if she could find out how much longer until the doctor might be in. She came back and told me it would be another 20-25 minutes. By this time, we're already 50 minutes past my scheduled appointment time that I had left work to attend. As I had other obligations approaching, I did not have another 20-25 minutes, plus exam time, to spare. I had to leave and ask for a refund of my co-pay. So I lost an hour and a half at work and still need medical attention for my eye!! read more

I went to Dr. Greder for a regular eye exam in 2014. The appointment was fine. I was hospitalized with a serious eye infection March 2015. I made an appointment with Dr. Whitted (ophthalmologist, Dr. Greder is an optometrist). My first consultation was $130.05 with the first follow-up visit costing $63. My second follow-up cost $131, more than the initial consult, and the third follow-up cost $119. I don't have vision insurance so this is all self pay. Plus the inconvenience of waiting past my appointment time and then having to wait to pay my bill without having an itemized receipt seemed rather inept. I still need another follow-up from my eye infection but am definitely changing to a different clinic altogether. read more

I have gone here for some years, but no more. The last time I went in for an exam, I got eyeglasses made afterward and found I couldn't see out of them. I went back to MEC with the prescription and asked why. They scheduled a second exam for me and an older woman filled out my chart before the doctor came in. She asked why I came back and I said "I can't see out of these glasses" and she said "Well did you tell us you would be doing computer work with the glasses on? Because we wrote the prescription for distance. You have to tell us what you want!" She wasn't very nice at all, very defensive. I couldn't remember specifically telling them I needed short-distance glasses, but I know I did discuss with the doctor that I work on a computer all day. read more

I scheduled an appointment with Midwest Eye Care and then got sick the day before and had to cancel it. As a not-so-lucky coincidence, the day after I would have gone in, my eye turned red and painful. Yuck! The next part would be a long story, but short version: after it wasn't getting better after other medical care, I called Midwest Eye Care and they fit me in with Dr. Greder within a couple hours. They were very thorough and explained everything that was happening. They then called me the next day to check in. Before leaving for a business trip today, I called to see if they could check to see whether I could wear my contacts yet - they fit me in again, within an hour. I've just been thrilled with how easily they've fit me in, how they haven't made me feel like I'm putting them out by calling twice to come in on the same day, and so forth. I'll go back next week to see if my eye has cleared up and to get new glasses (finally!). If things don't go well, I'll update it here - but otherwise, assume I'm still one very happy customer! read more

I find it easy to get in in an emergency. If my own doctor is unavailable, they make sure I see someone else. The staff is super helpful and always friendly. I have not had a problem with the billing department. I know how a business like this works. In spite of that, my doctor spends all the time with me that I could ever want and answers all of my questions. He never seems to have one foot pointed at the door. And their surgical center and staff are all one could ask for. read more

The doctors are totally amazing! We normally wait between 45 minutes and an hour for our appointment. We have never minded waiting because the doctors are so good, but don't ever be late for your appointment. We had an appointment at the midtown location and misunderstood what time our appointment was. Since we arrived 18 minutes late (thinking we were right on time) they cancelled our appointment and marked is as a no show. We were repeatedly told that if you are 20 minutes late you lose your appointment; even though we weren't 20 minutes late. So apparently it is fine that you wait for up to a hour, but if you are late you lose your appointment! Again, their doctors are definitely worth the wait - JUST DONT BE LATE FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT!! read more
