Do not go to any of the doctors or have procedures done. This place gives you terrible service, charges for things you specifically don't want and tell them that at the time of appointment. Dr. Bruck did a cataract surgery on my husband and he has more problems seeing then before the surgery. When he told the doctor about it the doctor just said he needed another surgery for that problem. Appointments are approximately 5 minutes long and no one answers your questions. Billing is horrible and the staff is rude. This place does not deserve a one star rating. read more

Recommended for specialist care for serious vision problems. See an independent ophthamologist or optometrist for more routine care. I've been seeing Dr Ingvoldstad for a retinal condition. He has incredibly steady hands, he keeps up with the latest research, and he has an assuring manner. If you have a serious retina problem, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. Likewise, the office staff are friendly, competent, and helpful. While my medical needs have been well attended to, the MEC practice could do better at caring for me as a whole person. There has been no support at all for my psychological needs as I dealt with the terror of potential blindness. No advice was available to help me make the best use of my remaining vision. I'm extraordinarily well equipped to seek out information and support from other sources, so if I felt disoriented and stranded and helpless, I can only imagine the torture most patients with serious eye condiditons are going through. Adding to the stress, the offices feel impersonal; patients are constantly shuttled from place to place and from person to person (the Dodge office is a little better than the California St office in this regard). Visits are inconsistently coded, so I can't predict how much it will cost, even for identical procedures. Sometimes the differences are in my favor, and sometimes not, so I haven't protested and I just hope the errors will even out in the end. Appointment time was reasonable, Doctor was fine, my issue is with billing. Expressly told them I did not have vision insurance, yet they still ran the charges through my healthcare provider. Difference of over $200, from paying day of, until receiving a bill. Called to ask, and since they had all that work of submitting to insurance, they cannot change the bill. Slimy way to do business. Midwest Eye Care sure has gotten CHEAP. I purchased my yearly pair of $800 eyeglasses with new prescription. When I picked up the glasses I was handed them in a sack. I asked if I could get them fitted as for the past 50 years, new glasses have always been fitted upon picking them up. I was given an eye roll and told there was no adjustment on new glasses. I asked if I could have the tiny bottle of eye glass spray and was told that is no longer free. WTH is going on here? So now I have an $800 pair of glasses that slides down my nose and gives me a headache. Unacceptable. I also had a full eye exam and purchased contacts although the eye glass department seems to be the only ones with the attitude that customers are a nuisance. read more

Dr Hotman sent me home with a prescription that was wrong. He switched the right and left. When he realized it he did not admit his mistake. Switched to Dr Applebaum but did not check the script. It was way off. I had to go to another doctor to correct it. I had gone to him because he is a retina specialist. I had a detached retina in the past yet he didn't even check my retinas. Booked an eye appointment in Council Bluffs for cataracts only to find out I have to go to Omaha to see a surgeon at their west Omaha office. $45 dollars for each visit. Was quoted $2000 per eye for lens upgrade. I visited another clinic in Des Moines and was quoted $800 for right eye and zero for the left eye as it didn't need the upgrade. Midwest charges $2000 for an $800 lens and tried to sell me 2 when I only needed one. It was worth the drive to save $3200. I highly recommend Dr Benson at Broadlawns in Des Moines. You have choices, get a second opinion. read more

I had an annual eye exam and contact lens fItting yesterday and was told I would be in and out in an hour. After the contact lens fitting and refraction my eyes were dilated in preparation to see the doctor. 2 1/2 hours later a surprised tech opened the door and asked which provider I was waiting to see. The doctor came in to do his 'exam' 15 minutes later that amounted to no more than 5 minutes. I made an appointment with an ophthalmologist to thoroughly check the health of my eye as I have some lattice degeneration, Nevis of Ota (and an unrelated history of melanoma.) They would also not apply their coupon to contact lenses claiming the offer was only for glasses. No where on the coupon specify the offer was only for glasses. Overall, very dissatisfied! read more

Twice had to leave an appointment after waiting for 45 minutes after the scheduled appointment time. They billed for missing the appointment even though arrival was on time. My husband received very successful cataract surgery from Dr. Himebaugh two years ago, paying the hefty fee for implants, which have been excellent. My complaint is that I just received the bill for a totally unnecessary "refraction" for $45. He would not understand when they asked him if he wanted a "refraction". What they should ask is "Do you want a prescription for new glasses". He was a patient of Dr. Whitted's for at least twenty years, and never once had a yearly "refraction", except if he needed a new prescription after the initial screening. Do NOT send your elderly parents in for a routine eye checkup without ascertaining first if they need glasses, as the "refraction" question will be asked and charged, even if there is absolutely no need for new glasses. Explain the term, Midwest Eye Care, and don't do a "refraction" for someone who already has 20/20 vision. read more

Dr. Feilmeier performed cataract surgery on me in February 2022. I was having misgivings after the surgery on my right eye, because my vision was not good, so I cancelled left eye surgery. Dr. Feilmeier convinced me that my vision would improve after both cataracts were removed, so I proceeded to have the left eye surgery. I had requested the implantation of multi focal lenses and paid an additional $4000 with the expectation that I would not need to wear glasses for most daily functions, including basic reading. Needless to say, my vision did not improve, with my reading prescription remaining at +2.75. Dr. Feilmeier was completely dismissive and rude when questioned, accusing me of having dry eye before surgery and being afraid of wearing glasses. After consulting with another ophthalmologist, I find out that I was not given multi focal lenses, but Toric lenses was implanted instead. Do not trust this practice. I am still suffering from their "care" and my eyesight is worse than it has ever been. read more

I was suppose to have an appointment today. I received a call one hour prior to my appointment and was told the Dr was not in the clinic. I was told they left a voicemail. But my appointment took a really long time, they dilated my eyes to a degree that they remained that way for many, many hours (something I have not experienced at other appts) and I received numerous different answers about what my appointment would cost from staff that was not particularly kind. I have been going to Midwest Eye care for years. Changed several years ago from the 42nd and Dodge location to 133rd and California as my doctor there retired. I now go to Dr. Michael Feilmeier, who is the best. No problems with insurance, billing, setting up an appointment or an excessive wait time. There are a lot of elderly patients at this location (as there were at the 42nd and Dodge location) and sometimes it takes a doctor longer to finish their appointment than usual. That is completely understandable. I broke one of the bows off my glasses two different times and the eye glass department fixed them quickly and efficiently, once taking a bow off a matching pair of new glasses so I wouldn't have to wait while one was shipped to me. I have had absolutely no complaints in all of the years I have been a patient at Midwest Eye care. read more

Should have relied on the many other reviewers who gave negative feedback. I saw dr Whitted because he was supposed to be an excellent dr - I don't have any qualms with his exam The contact lenses department is very disorganized, unprofessional - frankly they are incompetent. After my first contact lenses fitting with Lonnie (no longer works there) I was sent home with several different samples. None of them were even close to correcting my vision. I've worn contacts for many years with no problems. I went back to the office to find out why my lenses vision correction was so poor. Every sample was the WRONG prescription. Another fitting and consultation with April this time the problem was resolved. Frustrated at the incompetent experience with Lonnie, April was very apologetic and professional so I ordered three months supply. Approximately three months later I called to reorder. To avoid a shipping charge I returned to the West Omaha location to pick them up. After I got home I realized the lenses they sold me were WRONG again. Don't buy your contacts through them- get your prescription and shop elsewhere. you'll save $ and avoid the hassle read more

I recently had eye surgery (removal of left eye) the surgery staff up to the time of surgery and after surgery have been so very EXCEPTIONAL in helping to deal with my situation and extremely friendly, I never had much of a waiting period even when the "lens" kept popping out i could call and they would tell me to come right in and Dr. Courtney Hellman would be there to assist me putting it back in place, she even stayed late to help when i got there i thought that in itself was great customer care (thank you Courtney :) you rock). I would so recommend to anyone to go see the best surgeon Kathryn Hodges, MD and Courtney Hellman, MD...can't wait till next appointment !!!! read more

Dr. Whitted genuinely cares for his patients and wants to see you have the best results possible and will do what it takes to make that happen. Our family has been patients at Midwest Eye Care for over 30 years. However, my daughter recently sustained an eye injury. Within 10 days of receiving the bill, their accounting office called us to demand payment. With the Covid-19 lock downs, people being laid off and everything else going it, it was very surprising to me to get a call like that. Had a 2:20 appointment, got there at 2:10 young lady at front desk was very pleasant and helpful. Then it went downhill fast I was in the waiting room for about 20 minutes then "Ms personality " took me back to the 1st room for all the typical questions, I have talked to corpses at funerals that had more zing than she did. The she put me in another room and I waited till almost 3:45 for the doctor, he came in, I said a little late and the pompous little guy looked me in the eye and said "your lucky we could work you in our busy schedule" we then proceeded with the eye exam. I had the same doctor here for a long time and had quality care, but since they retired I have not received the same level of care. I had an annual exam where the doctor drastically changed my contact prescription. They gave me the same prescription for both eyes when I have never had the same prescription for both eyes with my old doctor and I can't see as well as I did with my old prescription and also got headaches from wearing them. I had to wait a year so my insurance would cover the visit and went back. I got tricked into paying two copays and got a fitting or something and then ended up with the same prescription for contacts. I saw each doctor for 5 minutes but spent 2 hours there. Guess I'm having headaches for another year until my insurance will cover another visit, but luckily am moving and so don't have to go back here. I'm sure some of their doctors are lovely but I've been burned twice and am still blind. read more

My Experience with this organization and Dr. Feilmeier was a nightmare from the moment I stepped into the office. I was hustled off for an eye exam with no feedback on the results. I received a eye prescription for new glasses with no explanation of any change in the prescription and no report on known cataracts in my eyes. I have no idea to date on what was the result of the test. Dr Feilmeier gave me five minutes and misdiagnosed my eye problem. He prescribed the wrong over the counter solution. As my pain increased I called for a revisit to solve my pain. I was sold he had 72 patients and 67 patients scheduled for the next two days and he did not have time for several weeks. I then went to another real Doctor and lo and behold I had an eye infection which the medicine offered to me by Dr Feilmeier only aggravated my infection. After two dosages of the antibiotic medicine my eyes began to return to normal.. I did not have dry eyes, I had an infection that was caused by the high pollen and mold counts in the air this spring. I was unable to get anyone at this location to help me other than to prescribe a more expensive dry eye over the counter medication. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND THIS DOCTOR IS IN THE MONEY FIRST PATIENT SECOND MODE. HE SHOULD BE FORCED TO RETURN HIS LICENSE TO PRACTICE MEDICINE. ALSO REFUND MY INSURANCE MONEY AND CO PAY AS I RECEIVED NOTHING FOR MY VISIT BUT MORE PAIN AND DISCOMFORT. read more

I have been very pleased with my experiences at Midwest Eye Care. Having gone to several Opthalmologists' office over the years, I don't expect to have the precise time-line adherence as typically found in other health care specialties. Eye doctors take time with each patient and often consult with peers. Surgeries have to be scheduled rapidly and emergencies required immediate care. So the wait times at each appointment has been very good in my opinion. I typically have less than a 10-15 wait at each step of the exam cycle. Dr. Ingvoldstad is wonderful! He is patient, kind, professional, and thorough. He performed cataract surgeries on both my eyes and I couldn't be happier. His staff has always been personable and professional with me. His outpatient surgery staff is exemplary. I would recommend. read more

I recently went to the Midwest Eye Care location on 43rd and Dodge and will NOT GO BACK AGAIN. NOBODY was friendly. From the moment I walked in the woman that signed me in wouldn't smile, no matter what I said, and barely even looked at me. I should have left right there. The Dr. I saw, OMG, the worst! In a major hurry to get out of there, barely acknowledged I was his customer in the room, & was planning on leaving the room after about 5 minutes of being there, except that I demanded service and answers to questions I had as well as some sort of eye exam. He was so awful! In my many years going to see eye doctors I have never been so disappointed. Then, I thought I would look at frames, but the guy in charge just had no intention of being of service. The whole experience was very negative. Needless to say, I bought my frames and glasses elsewhere. How can they run a business when customers, paying customers at that, are treated this way?
