I was excited to find a Groupon deal for a NYCity stylist so for some reason I truly felt i was dealing with a pro, unfortunately the blonde elderly woman who awaited my head was more "bark" than "bite" if you know what I mean... NO FRILLS SALON WITH AN EXCELLENT SERVICE FOR THE PRICE GREAT BLOW OUT SPOT LADIES I discovered this place via living social because I needed a trim and the salon was in a convenient location. I was very happy with my stylist, Anna, who really cared about my hair. She gave me a healthy cut and--most importantly--a frizz-free blowout on a hot july summer day. The blow out lasted for a couple days! She never once used a curling or flat iron (this is unheard of for me). Many people asked me if I had gotten my hair colored because of the shine! They use Aveda products there primarily. I didn't even mind paying an extra $10 than was quoted to me due my hair being a bit longer. (instead of $20 extra, it was $30 extra). This place does not really put effort into its 'vibe' -- no music, decor or fancy trimmings to speak of. No butler offered me water. That stuff does not matter to me but if it matters to you, heads up. read more

After getting repeatedly ripped of by my existing salon I found pearl via Living Social. I'm very limited in where I can go due to a hair dye allergy and I have to use a certain product which this salon carried. Angela did my color and cut and did exactly as I asked, no pushing products and no adding services or treatments to my bill which is the issue I have had with previous salons. I have since been back and again, I got exactly when I went in for at the quoted price, I've never had to wait. I'm really happy with the service provided by Angela, the salon is clean and tidy and the costs are reasonable - I'd recommend this salon highly. read more

I purchased a Groupon for a half head of highlights and cut. Unfortunately my color came out terrible. Initially the highlights were streaky and too strong so I asked to have toner added. Probably the worse idea, because instead of toning down and keeping the golden look I became overall brunette. On top of that they charged me an extra $30 because my hair is long... The cut was good but because of my terrible experience with the highlights I will not return. read more

I purchased a Groupon Voucher for $79 that included; shampoo, haircut, a half head of highlights, a condition treatment, and blow dry. I am new to the 5 boroughs and was apprehensive about getting my hair done by somebody I didn't know. I am happy I went with my gut feeling by choosing Pearl Salon. Yuna was able to get me in before I had a social event. He did an amazing job on my highlights and got my hair to a health length. He also gave me good product recommendations that would not break my bank and he has over 20 years of experience. I will be back when it is time for my roots to be touched up. read more

I went this week with my Groupon to have my roots touched up. I carefully explained I wanted the roots to be the same color as my hair (blond). I repeated it at least twice more to confirm the roots would be the same color (which seems obvious but I wanted to be sure the stylist understood). I was aghast when my hair was rinsed out, I was now a brunette. The stylist's comment was "But it looks so natural". Tomorrow I have to go to another salon to have my hair color redone. read more

I walked in for a blowout because my usual place was booked! They were very nice, especially the girl, MiMi I believe. She blew out my thick in a curly blow out and did a wonderful job! It took her a while but I do have thick hair, which landed me an up charge on the walk in special. If you're looking for a nice and not busy place, try them out. read more

I am reposting this review because it was screened as "not recommended" when I posted it before. If it is screened out again, it will be my last yelp review. I have been on yelp for years with 76 reviews (and 43 "useful" votes), so algorithm or no algorithm, I'm done if this gets screened. I go to Yoni. Started with a haircut on a groupon, but I liked the cut so went back for cut, color and Keratin last August. That worked out well, so I returned twice again when I needed to get all three redone. So this review is based on four visits, one for just a cut and three for cut, color, and keratin. Yoni is very good about listening to what you want. He will make suggestions if you ask for them, but if you don't want to go with his recommendation, he's fine with that too. Very good prices. During my first visit, he offered to match groupon prices without my needing to buy a groupon. So instead of my going to one place for color, one place for cut, and one place for keratin depending on the groupon or living social deal of the day, I started to go here. This is definitely a small, no-frills place. Each time I was there (all Sundays), he was the only one working. I believe he's one of the owners. He schedules very carefully and thoughtfully. So he had my color and Keratin scheduled so that he could do a quick haircut for a regular during what was necessary processing/waiting time for me. If you are late, you may throw off his schedule. I've been getting compliments on my hair color ever since I started going here. And the best part is that when I look in the mirror, my hair color seems very natural to me. I know intellectually that it's not my natural color, but in the mirror, it feels like it is. read more

I purchased two LivingSocial haircut/color/deep condition deals and both were awful. On the plus side they agreed to see us (it was a treat for my mom's birthday) the same day. On the negative side they took a walk in before my scheduled appointment and I had to wait 45 minutes, while my mom was done and had to wait for me before we could go to dinner. They talked my mom out of the deep condition saying her hair didn't need it and they made her hair orange, she hates the color. She did like the cut though. After cutting her hair, the stylist approached me and told me it would be a $35 upcharge to blow dry my mom's hair. What was I going to say, no on my mom's birthday when we were on our way to dinner? After talking to me about what I wanted-a trim/bangs cut to below my eyes/hair one shade lighter than the ash blond I had-my stylist said she would trim my layers but not give me the bangs. Pardon me? At that point, since the birthday girl was waiting I didn't care what she did I just wanted her to start. She brought over a color card and showed me the brownish color she was going to make, I asked for the blonder color on the card and she said it was too light. She mixed up the color she wanted and started applying it. AFTER she started applying it she asked how long it had been since I colored it and THEN told me there would be an upcharge of $20 because the deal only covers one inch of color and I needed four inches! Excuse me? The deal covered a root touch up OR a single process color, I asked for the color hence why I asked for a shade lighter than I was. Again, should I have said no after she was already applying the color? I was so aggravated that I began reading a magazine and barely looked up. I am pasty white and my forehead and neck were burning from the color she smeared all over my face. She walked away and I assumed it was to get me a towel to wipe up the color on my face but the next thing I see is her walking out the door on a break. I looked up and saw that she only applied color to the four inches she deemed color worthy and she didn't wipe my face which caused a burn. She also did not give me the deep condition I paid for, unless the three minutes I sat at the sink as she was rinsing the color out count. She began blow drying my hair after the trim, without asking me if I was going to pay which I was not going to do. I think she got the picture because all she did was take some of the moisture out of my hair and stop. I now have DARKER not lighter hair that looks exactly the same. Came in here to give this salon a try and I was really pleased with my haircut. I am very picky with my haircuts so I was somewhat nervous but one my close friends had recommended this salon. The staff was very courteous and professional. The interior was very neat and clean. They suggested different hair styles that would go well with my face structure and executed the haircut really well. I am sure to come back here very shortly for another haircut! read more

This was the worst experience. He first off double booked me and lied saying that he called. Then he took 2 minutes to cut my hair with no blending or inspection until I asked. Proceeded to be confused as to why I was upset that he literally just cut across my hair bluntly and then finished. I also had to ask for him to put heat protectant in my hair because as I've explained my hair is very damaged. I wanted to cry and had to just get out. In the beginning when I asked questions he made me feel like an idiot and it was impossible to feel comfortable. Never again. I regret buying this groupon. Came across this salon the other day after I finished working at my part time job in Bloomingdales. I had to go to a birthday party that very evening and I was in a serious need of a highlight touch up, a trim, and a nice blow out. Was greeted with kindness and despite the place being pretty busy, luckily, the wait was not too long. My stylist was extremely attentive to my requests and although we had a bit of a miscommunication regarding the length that I desired, everything came out great. I'm ecstatic to have found this salon and will definitely be coming back, especially since it's so conveniently close to my job. read more

i had a living social coupon went in to get the basic,cut shampoo/deep conditioning. they 2 women came over look at my hair length ask what i neeed to be done, "just a trim keep the shape: she then turned around and said"Your hair is 2 inches below my shoulders and it is going to cost me an xtra $20. I said what is short "she put her hands to my chin and said this is what the coupon is worth" OH I Replied!! She said people don't read fine prints" I was floored. This is definitely a no-thrills bare-bones kind of hair salon. When I made the appointment I specifically asked for a hair stylist who specializes in curly hair but sadly that was not the case. I asked not to have my hair blow dried, since I just let it air dry, but the stylist used a hair dryer anyway turning my hair into a huge frizzy mess (claiming it was too cold to go outside with wet hair). She then proceeded to use a fine-tooth comb on my curls which exacerbated the situation. I had to re-wash my hair immediately when I got home. Also, when she was done cutting I asked her to cut a little more off the back. She seemed very offended and kept saying I should have been more specific with my instructions in the beginning. I'm still not sure what the big deal is. It's common practice to ask for some minor changes after seeing your finished cut. That's why they give you the hand mirror and ask you to check it out front to back! Looking around, I noticed the only other two customers were middle aged men, so maybe young women are not the target audience for this place. With all the other options in New York city I wouldn't come back. I wasn't very happy with the service, the cut, or the atmosphere. read more

I am a man with curly, wavy thick hair. I was looking for a style that would give me a neat appearance, but maintain my curls on top. I explained pretty much how I wanted my hair cut, at least I thought I did, but my hair was cut considerably shorter than I wanted. It took a month for the curls to grow back. I had gone to the same stylist for 30 years. When he retired, I went to a new one who was good for a while, then messed up my hair. This happened twice more -- the last time it so bad I didn't let anyone touch my hair for 15 months. Then I discovered Yonah. He gave me a fabulous haircut the first time! After about a year, I was brave enough to let him do keratin straightening and color. -- first time for both. My hair always looks great now -- color, texture, and cut. People constantly tell me how great it looks! Yonah is the best!! I recommend him without reservation. read more

Do not go to this salon--especially if you have a Groupon or Living Social coupon. It is a bare bones salon with two surly Russian owners that could care less about their customers. I had an appointment with Angela, but she said since I was a Living Social customer she didn't have to keep the appointment if she had another regular customer and gave me another stylist. ( I was there for over two hours and her "customer" never arrived. She sat around on her phone and read magazines the whole time.) The next thing they told me was that a blow dry was not included and that partial highlights were only 8-10 foils and that no one gets just partial highlights. Worst of all, the owners do not honor the promotional value of the Living Social coupon and charge prices way above what is listed on their sign on the street. Angela and her male sidekick are also extremely rude. Do not be tempted by the descriptions. read more
