Pros: -The service was good, the hair saloon was clean and the hair stylist was nice Cons: -Terrible haircut (Not "I don't like the hairstyle" awful, but "my hair got stuck in the fan and I had to pull it out" awful) -Terrible "keratin". I have done keratin probably 7 times in my lifetime, this is hands down the worst one. My hair is rather straight at baseline but I wanted to get rid of some waviness and frizz. After their keratin, it was exactly the same. (actually worse as the choppy haircut made it more messy) Pic 1: The same day after the hairstyling, every single hair has a different length. Pic 2 and 3: after shower (I showered 3 days after the keratin treatment with a no sulfate shampoo for keratin). The hair got even more wavy than my baseline hair. And because of the hairstyle, the tips of the hair where all over the place. I contacted them twice to get it corrected, they did not reply my emails (I was abroad and couldn't call so wanted to schedule something when I returned). They never replied. I hated it so much I had to do the keratin and the haircut again at another saloon. So, basically I was robbed 250 dollars. Not happy, do not recommend. Save your time and money. Do not get their coupon ------------- Ahhh, and they added a "long hair 20 dollar fee". My hair was at the height of my shoulders.... seriously.....??? So I called B.S. So they changed it to "regular hair 10 dollar fee". hmmmm, so basically you are charging me a fee for having hair? ok cool, cool Why do you charge "regular hair fee" what the hell? I went back to Belea today to do a hair cut correction that was cut from Mayuu/Monica and corrected by Shin. The manager, Kumiko kindly and respectfully reached out to me and personally invited me back to avoid the hassle of creating a slow appointment through my previous stylist who works only PT. I got the Deesse's Linkage Meu deep conditioning treatment done by Kumiko and Hana--which took about 15 minutes or so. This treatment seriously made a big difference on the quality of my hair (I was also provided a 4-pack of aftercare for the treatment that is substituted for conditioner on a weekly basis) Shortly after Shin started to blow dry my hair after the rinse off, examined my cut, and carefully fixed it. After the cut he swiftly touched up on my blowdry and asked if I was satisfied--it was perfect! Great manners, friendly people, and it's nice to know that Shin exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend Belea Salon on E 53rd between 2nd and 3rd! I had a Living Social for "Keratin Passion Straight Treatment for Hair Up to Shoulder-Length" at Belea. It's a week after the treatment and I could not be happier. The owner actually worked on my hair. She was fast, efficient, nice and friendly. I had an extra charge because my hair is longer but she more than made up for it with courtesy and advice. She also gave me a solid trim that made a huge difference. I came here on a whim during my lunch break. I normally get my hair done in Tribeca but my roots were driving me crazy. All I had done was a root touch up and then they asked me if I wanted my hair blowdried or air dried. Since I was going back to work, I opted to have it blowdried. I did not realize she was going to do a blow out. My hair is so thin that it is impossible to blow it out therefore I never get a blowout. The roots look great except for the back because you can still see my roots and the blowout looked like a regular blow dry. In the end I was charged $90 for the roots and $45 for the blow dry. I think their prices are insane. Every salon in Midtown offers a shampoo and blow out for $25. Additionally, $90 for a root touch up is absolutely ridiculous considering my roots were maybe an inch if not less. Where I normally get my hair done and every other salon, it cost less than $80. The women were very attentive and nice but I would not return due to these prices. There are millions of salons that will do the same work for much less. read more

He is very professional and I followed him from his previous job location to Belea, because it's very hard to find a right person who understands what you want. He is very gentle and not a single hair is left on your clothes after cut ( compared to some other hair dressers). I've been going back multiple times over a year for the cut by Shin. I have waivy hair which is quite unusual for an Asian and I always had difficulty with other hair dressers not cutting in the style I want. However Shin is super skilled and he is the only hair dresser I met who knows what to do with my hair! I purchased a Living Social voucher for Keratin Passion Straight Treatment for Hair up to shoulder length for $140. They told me over the phone when I made the appt and when I arrived about the extra charge for longer than shoulder length hair. I have wavy hair, and yes, after pulling it straight one could say it's below my shoulder but otherwise it lays on my shoulder. They charged me $10 extra. Ok no big deal. The process took 2 hours, they were very kind, offering me a drink, taking care to cover my ears w/a protector so I wouldn't get burned by the straight iron. However, it was only after I was finished that they told me this was the 24 hour treatment. I have had keratin many many times and always had the 72 hour treatment, and had booked my appt based on that. Since you cannot get your hair wet I was concerned by the weather and took the impending rain into account as well. If I had known it was the 24 hour treatment I would have booked a different date. I am also convinced that this treatment will not last as long as the 72 hour treatment. Also, I noticed a very strong chemical smell while flat ironing. Today, I washed my hair for the first time and the smell was HORRENDOUS! I have a terrible headache and am afraid I will get this smell w/every washing. Again, I have had keratin many many times and have never experienced this odor. Will not be going back. read more

I would have given it 0 stars if I could. This place is very clean, very attentive, and very welcoming. However getting a hair cut from a person that doesn't know English is the worse thing anyone can do to put themselves in that situation. I ask for a med. bob and what I got was a short blunt cut. Plus when it came time for blow drying the guy was air drying my hair leaving it in a major frizz state. I had to stop him mid session and tell him he's not drying it right. Right there another person had to come in take care of the rest of the blow drying. But a big epic fail b/c this other person had no idea how to blow dry either. Needless to say I left very unhappy with a frizzy looking head. I would recommend the owner to revamp his staff. These people have no clue on blow drying or giving customer what they ask for in terms of a hair cut. read more

This is my first booking with Shin at Belea and got really wonderful experience. Shin gives an authentic Japanese straightening from his expertise, and he corrected my poor self coloring to a decent condition. Particularly, his haircut technique is amazing! Approximately a month later when my hair has grown up a little, I realized that his haircut is fabulous. Haru was great! I got a keratin straightening treatment at Belea this part weekend. The staff was extremely accommodating and even provided wifi for the 3 hrs it takes for the entire process. I've had keratin straightening treatments previously where the technician burned my scalp, charged extra for better products than the baseline advertised, added additional charges for haircut after, etc. None of those things happened at Belea. I didnt have enough money for the haircut but Shin was really nice enough to cut my hair. I wish i could have pay for his tips but i only have $200 in cash and forgot my debit card at home.
