Great place! They really take care of your car and make sure to look for all of the problems, not just fix the obvious one.

Paul is a crook. Charged $80 for a non-synthetic oil change plus another $17 for the air filter.

I've been a loyal customer but my recent oil change was a huge letdown. They missed threaded my oil…read morepan and I had to do the work myself, which cost about $300 since it would have cost over $1000 at the shop given I had to remove my exhaust pipe and coolant pipe to access my oil pan. I called starks to give them a chance to make it right, but they denied any wrongdoing. I'm not one to leave reviews, but I hope this helps others avoid this headache.

I'm not familiar with the original owners but the current one will lie to get himself and his people paid as much as they can get out of the customers. They over charge and try to tell you to fix things that don't need to be fixed. They also lied about issues that weren't there and needing things with and for the car which I did not need. When I first came in I asked for an oil change and a state inspection and that was it. It was clear what I was asking for and how I asked for it. Then they told me they can't pass the inspection because of 7 different issues including ALL the tires and brakes. Okay that's annoying but it's whatever. I'm not a car guy but I gave them the benefit of the doubt I might've needed some fixing. Given the price of new tires yes the bill would be expensive but the total was WAY more than it should have been. Also the brakes were brand new so they were just straight up lying to my face. I didn't want to go through with it since the price helped my suspicions of them so I asked them to FAIL the inspection so I would be able to see what was wrong with it on an official document and try at a different place. Surprise they never initiated an official inspection like I asked for, Wasn't able to provide me with any official documentation of the inspection or failed inspection, And basically ignored my requests entirely. At the end of the day I paid for the oil change which I did actually get surprisingly but at a price of $200+ JUST FOR AN OIL CHANGE. When I asked why the bill was so high, the owners response was that he pays his workers hourly and that's the price I would have to pay since my car was there in the shop being looked at. Again the inspection never happened so I payed $200+ just for an oil change (included the oil; filter and such). I didn't trust them at all and hated the fact the people trying to rip me off had access to my car so I drove 2+ hours to a different shop where they were able to get my inspection passed and everything looked at within the hour. I showed them the price and list of things Stark's auto service wanted me to change or fix and literally LAUGHED. I've never seen or experienced anything like that before where a mechanic laughed at a projected receipt. They explained to me 5 of the things on there were completely falsified and they were trying to rip me off. Again with the benefit of the doubt I brought my car to another shop just incase It was opinionated or something but they said the same exact thing. Do NOT go to starks auto service. If I could I would rate this place 0 stars but I can't.

Don't waste your time with an inspection at the State College Monro. On Tuesday, I scheduled an…read moreinspection for Thursday. On Thursday I dropped my vehicle off early morning on my way to work. I got a call that day saying the only mechanic at the location who can do inspections called off so it can't get inspected today. I was also told he probably would call off Friday, but they scheduled an appointment for me just in case and said call before dropping it off Friday. I got a call from them Friday morning saying he called off and I shouldn't drop it off, however he would be in Saturday so I scheduled an appointment for 3PM where I could wait for it to be done. I showed up Saturday at 3PM only to be told that there were 4 vehicles ahead of me and it would be 3-4 hours if they could even do it that day. Take your vehicle somewhere else.

Horrible experience. After they completed a state inspection with my car, Ryan, the middle-aged…read morechubby man working at the counter, called me to say that it needs a replacement of the rear rotors. The cost is $209 per piece ($418 for the pair), which I later found out was much more expensive than the market average (around $70-80 per piece). Still I agreed, and then they started the replacement, only to call me after 30 minutes that they had to stop because the wrong parts were sent to them. Then I cancelled the replacement, took my car to another mechanic, who told me that my car doesn't even have rear rotors - it was rear drums! Moreover, they were in very good conditions (a 6 out of 7, whereas the state minimum is 2)! When I went back to Monroe and confronted Ryan, the worst thing happened. Instead of checking in with the mechanic to find out what happened and apologizing for the mistake, he made a long defensive explanation (about the computer system or something) and eventually got mad at me. I argued back and said, "You lost my trust," he replied, "OK. End of conversation. Have a great day." It was the worst auto repair experience (and customer experience in general) I've ever had! This guy named Ryan was rude, unapologetic, and unprofessional. I am going to file a complaint with Monroe customer service to report this event.

I'm knocking a couple stars off from my previous review for a few reasons. Service is still good…read moreand prices are fair but I'm pretty frustrated at some of the chaos they could have helped prevent in my life! We had a big move ahead of us and I was trying to get preparations in order, including getting a hitch installed to our SUV so that we could pull a trailer for the move. I called and asked for a quote and they gave me one with or without parts in case I wanted to supply the hitch myself. I appreciated that and decided to order a hitch separately to save a little money. When I took it in for my appointment (baby with me waiting the entire time) everything went fine and I was out of there in a little over an hour. Flash forward a few days to when it's time for my husband to pick up the Uhaul trailer... they say we can't actually pick it up because we didn't have any of the necessary electrical wiring to hook up the trailer lights for brakes/hazards. Duh! Why didn't I think of that? Maybe because I'm a new mom with a baby and a big move and a lot going on. More importantly, why didn't anyone at Karch think to even ask about wiring? Who tows a trailer without hooking it up to electrical so you can use brake lights? I think I expected an establishment like theirs to be a little more helpful and at least mention it as a "hey, will you want any wiring for that?". After all, they do that with nearly every other service they provide. Pretty disappointed but the move has now been completed (after my husband had to drive over an hour one way to another place to get same day wiring done) and I am looking forward to finding a new auto shop to use instead of Karch.
