I highly recommend Tire Town. For both inspections, minor repairs and tires. We moved to State College recently and had to get our cars inspected. What made me review them so highly was the fact that when they identified some minor issues with the older of our two vehicles (10+ years old) they were very clear about what needed to be taken care of to pass the inspections and what should be done but not needed for the inspections. It's not often that auto mechanics tell you about issues without making it seem like the repairs are urgent. Tire Town was transparent with their assessment of our cars. They also have a wide selection of tires available and we opted to get winter tires for the car we use for family driving and will swap the back and forth with the summer tires. With the snow storms and super cold weather we've had this winter it was definitely the right decision. read more

I took my car to Tire Town for after a neighbor recommended them (the recommendation was possibly biased by the fact that we can walk to it from our place). Their hours aren't bad either, 7:30 - 5:30 on weekdays and 7:30 - 2:00 on Saturdays. Our tires were in need of rotation (the guys couldn't get the lugs off when we got our oil changed last) and one of back tires was looking pretty flat. The diagnosis was two busted studs and a nail in the back tire. The place was busy when I brought it in, so I dropped it off and told them no rush, but they called me within two hours to say it was ready for pickup. I found the prices for tire rotation and flat repair to be reasonable (it was just $11 to repair the flat); the labor costs are a bit pricey but they guys seem to know their stuff. Bonus: since the busted studs broke off while trying to take the tires off, they did the rotation for free. I'd definitely recommend Tire Town as a solid place to get tire work/flat repair done. read more

Although Tire Town may have sums good techs, their owners are always rude. I moved here in 1994, I tried tire town in late 90's and found the owners very nasty , they like to lecture their customers! Anyway, I waited over 15 years to try again, I walked in and asked if I could set up an appt for. my Audi, I needed a seal checked on a tire. Same guy from 15 years ago, says. " If is snows to tonight I want NOTHING to do with it!" I said, oh is it supposed to snow? He said again, " Yes and if it does I want nothing to do with your car." I was flabbergasted but mildly amused since I it was the same individual from 15 years ago. I turned and left, not knowing how to react, I know they don't need my business, but I would never go back. Being rude to customers that have a simple problem, is a terrible way to behave. My back right tire needed replaced and I was dreading having to deal with garages early enough in the morning I wouldn't be late for work. I originally made an appointment online at Pep Boys - huge mistake. I showed up only to wait ten minutes for them to tell me no way would they be able to help me today. Granted I missed the disclaimer to cal and verify the appointment, but that almost seems to defeat the point of online appointments. I digress. Still on a crunch for time I headed across town to Tire Town. From the minute I walked in the service was excellent. Walked through the door at 1:24PM, they are advertised as open until 2:00PM. I tell the gentleman at the counter I have one wheel that I need the tire removed from ( a task that takes a single tech all of 3-4 minutes) and receive a firm loud NO from a man at the opposite end of the counter. The gentleman at my end of the counter then says "sorry, we're all picked up". My reply was "I don't understand what that means". He then responds, "we're closing and going home early". I was literally speechless. Two counter men and 3 techs, only one of which looked like he was doing anything refused a request to do a 4 minute job with over 30 minutes remaining until their scheduled end of business for the day. This is what I get for trying to support a local business in-lieu of a chain during a time when local businesses are being crushed due to the pandemic. I left, went to the PepBoys across town and was in and out in 11 minutes. So much for them being "ready to fix it" as the website claims. read more

Sent my daughter to Tire Town with a flat to be repaired. Read reviews and felt confident that she would be taken care of. She went in with four new Michelin tires and after two weeks, drove home to Pittsburgh, we had the car inspected, and much to my dismay found out that two flat Goodrich tires needed to be replaced and it wouldn't pass inspection! I guess some employee at Tire Town treated himself to two pretty sweet tires without my daughter knowing it. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tire Town fixed two problems on my car that weren't theirs and didn't make a big deal about it. I brought my 10 year old Rav 4 in for an inspection. The manager let me know that my front brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. My car already had squeaky brakes, but after I picked up the car it seemed more pronounced. I called Tire Town, brought the car back in and it turned out that the squealing brakes were the rear brakes - which they hadn't touched. They fixed the rear brake squeal for me and didn't make me feel like a moron. The back door also wasn't closing properly, they cleaned up the latch for me, without charge and now I can use my keyless entry again. They were professional, quick, and worth the price (which we thought was very reasonable anyway). They do more than the minimum for their customers and I certainly appreciated it. read more

I've been in the business before, so I knew what they were up to. The inspection on my car was running out, so I decided to come here. These guys wanted me to fork out $1200 on repairs. Had a bad experience in 2009 went in for tires cost, owner was rude and not helpful and I left without any options he could have given except take it or leave it. 2016 n November re-visited to get price on set of snow tires, the counter sales guy was nice and helpful left with prices to think about it, returned one week later and was confronted with the owner, show him the tires and price i was quoted, he denied it and claimed wrong info, showed him the paper with the prices that was given to me, again he said here is my price, and walked away. So, I left and went to Walmart and ordered the same snow tires and saved $210.00. Never Again ! read more

I have had just one experience here, but the service I received was exactly how it was advertised. I purchased four tires here recently, 2 brand new ones and 2 used ones. I got all 4 tires for a pretty good price. The used ones are in great condition and only cost me about 50 bucks a piece. The service was fast and I was back on the road in about 40 minutes. I've been going to Tire Town for about twenty five years now. I'm also very knowledgeable about cars. Tire Town is a great choice for auto repairs and tires. They won't do work you don't need and they'll tell you if they can't do something you want done. Their prices aren't the cheapest in town, but they're fair. They're straight shooters, so the give you the facts and don't candy coat things. Sometimes they could be a little friendlier about it, yes, but it's a minor point. To me, trust is a major thing when it comes to auto repair shops and they've never given me any reason not to trust them. I gladly recommend them to anyone. read more

One star is greatly over rating their service! I took my 03 Toyota Corolla to the North Atherton St. Tire Town on August 14, 2009. I was told that I needed the following to pass: have my wheels balanced ($8.95), new windshield wipers ($23.90), and two new tires ($155.80). I was charged $33.95 for an emission test, $25.95 for a state inspection, and $2.00 for the inspection certificate. After their other little fees and taxes I spent $285.55 in total. For 2010's inspection I went to another service station, Walks Auto, and within five minutes of taking my car to the back, they showed me that the wrong brakes had been installed on my car the year before. I was shocked and horrified because those brakes were installed 4 months before the Tire Town inspection. For all their "buy this" "buy that" no one there took the time to check my brakes before saying that they passed the inspection. The problem with the brake size was clearly visible once the tires were taken off. When I called Tire Town to ask why my brakes weren't checked they told me that "that wasn't part of the inspection" after I told them that I had the paper work right in front of me they tried to back peddle. According to them the guys who put my tires on know nothing about breaks, "they just do tires". Since I was busy dealing with Pepboys (where the brakes were bought and installed 4 weeks before Tire Town passed my car on inspection without checking the brakes) and working, I called back a few days later to speak with that Tire Town's manager. He first tried to deny their wrong doing, told me that he was standing right next to the person I spoke to the last time and heard everything and I was mistaken. He proceeded to get very nasty! It wasn't until I told him that I would be reporting them to the state inspections certification office (7177872895 if you also need their #) that he rudely stated "well if we missed it we're sorry". They offered no reparations for the danger that their lack of basic skills put me, my family, and everyone else on the roads of State College in. Do everyone a favor and take your vehicle some place where they can be bothered to do their jobs. read more

Went in to have my all-season tires switched out for winter tires I've had for about two years now, and they took well over an hour to do the job. I was charged over $70 for a job I've had done for about $20 at other shops. They never mentioned the price or how long I would have to wait. I chose to go to Midas first because of the reviews of this place. But after being told at Midas they could not look my car until Monday (it was the Friday before winter break), I came to Tire Town. I walked in and the man at the desk greeted me and was so friendly. I told him that all I needed was my hood looked it because it would not secure in the latch. Within 10 minutes they had a temporary fix so that I could get home and gave me some info on what could be wrong and what I might possibly need to do in the future. I just took my vehicle for a state inspection. While waiting I heard one customer after another with an extremely high bill or one they did not expect. One customer had to have tires replaced even though he thought they would be under warranty. No warranty because the tech told the customer his car was out of alignment. The customer did not seem to think it was. I was told I needed 2 repairs to pass inspection. One alone was nearly $400. I asked if this could be done at home. Oh no. I called my husband-very familiar with cars. Not only could he do it but it didn't need done at all! Also they told me a light was out. Not a single light out inside or outside of this car! No wonder the owner could take all the fancy trips he talked about non-stop while I was waiting. I obviously do NOT recommend this place read more

I have a very bad experience in tires town, state college, PA. I had my state inspection done there and they told me that my brake light and brake rotors need to be replaced. According to their suggestions, I bought the parts by myself and had the job done by myself. Then about two weeks later after the first inspection, I call them to schedule a re-inspection. They told me that I should pay for the inspection again! What a bad service! Those guys just want to rob money out of your pocket! Never go to tires town again! read more
