Do not waste your time sorting through the conflicting information online about when this place is actually open or what their rental process is unless you want to be jeered at in the parking lot by an old arrogant shopkeeper with short man syndrome who blames you for their broken process. I get it, the shop was closed even though multiple sources online said it was still open. I get it, we filled out the rental form and received a text message from Peak that, like the sign on their door said to wait in our car and they would be out shortly, and somehow we should have known that even though there was a person inside and the lights were on, nobody was ever going to come help us. The process is broken, that's fine. But what did we get when we finally got the storekeeper's attention? Not an apology or acknowledgement of the misunderstanding caused by these inconsistent sources of information, but a sneering little man mocking and waving condescendingly at me and my kid in the parking lot. I'm actually glad they were closed; we dodged that bullet of renting from a company who employs such a jerk. I'd rather pay twice as much elsewhere than support this kind of business. read more

The service was magnificent here. They got the right shoes for me and my family. We got skis to rent for the winter and did not take long at all. The atmosphere in here was super friendly and cool. Prices on the clothes were a bit pricey but would recommend to people wanting to ski or snowboard. read more

Best shop in the PGH area (and beyond) for boot fitting! I've been to all the shops in the area and these guys are a cut above the others. I worked with Jimmy at Peak Ski on a new pair of boots - he sized me down from a 27.5 to a 26.5 as my previous boots were a little too big in some areas and then made custom modifications (expanding the toe box area) so I could get the best fit possible - this whole process took about 3-4 hours. After my initial fitting and adjustments, I went back to the shop 3-4 more times for minor adjustments which Jimmy made at no cost. Also, I met with another one of the boot fitters there, Richard, for a 2 hour+ custom canting session at Boyce Park where he watched me ski and made temporary adjustments to the canting so he could determine the best setup for me. We then went back to the shop and he setup the boot soles with the new canting angles. We uncovered a balance issue on my left foot (I have an issue with the left arch) so he hooked me up with higher-end insoles at a reduced cost. All of this - the new boots, fit, insoles, and canting - took my skiing to another level this past season. I'll add that I was in the shop enough this season to see them working with other customers and saw them really taking the time to tailor the boot recommendation to each customer. They weren't just trying to sell the most expensive boot to everyone that walked into the door. At Peak Ski I never felt rushed like I did at other shops where they would quick fit me and try to get me out the door in a rush. I could tell Jimmy and Richard were expert skiers themselves and that was confirmed when I had the canting session with Richard and watched him ski. If you are looking for a great boot fitting experience, or are just curious about ski boots and want to get an honest recommendation, this is the place to go. They have all the tools, expertise, patience, and customer service skills you could ask for in a ski shop. I haven't purchased skis from them, but they have a nice selection and offered me the option to demo skis, which I didn't take them up on since I was more focused on getting my boots right this season. Based on the selection and their knowledge, I would consider them for a ski purchase too. One warning, since they are so good, they get busy, so call ahead for an appointment. It's worth taking the time to go here though versus the other big ski shop(s) in the area or rolling the dice with an online purchase. read more

Best ski shop in the region. Been coming here for the last several seasons. The owner and employees are friendly and helpful. Best of all, they take the time to answer all your questions. The prices are very reasonable, and their sales are really good deals. For a smaller sized shop, the selection is consistently excellent. If you want a custom boot fitting, this is the place you want to visit. Richard is incredibly knowledgeable, a guy from Vermont that has some serious experience making ski boots comfortable. My wife and I are able to ski all day again thanks to him! If you want rentals, the good stuff goes quickly, often by October or November. I've been renting skis for the season for my kids, and it works out about the same as "trading in" used gear every year or two as they grow, without all the hassle. For an extra $20 you can upgrade from older gear to what looks like the gear from a year or two ago. I cannot say enough good things about this place and their staff, the only downside is that I live 30-40 minutes away. Worth every minute. read more

We have been going to Peak and Ski for about 7 years. We have always had great service but this year we have seen new faces around, Vic (the technician) and Chris (the manger) and we have been especially pleased. Both of our boys were given personalized service to make sure that they were appropriately sized. I didn't feel rushed and they have been enjoying their seasonal rentals. After the other Peak's in Monroeville told me I could come in for a boot fitting when their boot fitter was out of town (see that review), I ended up coming to this location. This one was a significant improvement, at least for the boot fitting aspect. The professional boot fitter was very helpful in helping me get fitted and find a good boot for me and was willing to answer any questions and explain the various considerations. He also seemed to have a good intuitive sense for how to size someone up. He gave me a great combo deal when I decided to purchase boots and through in a discount, some ski poles, and a rental of skiis for the rest of the season. He also said I could come in to get the boots adjusted if needed (which may or may not be an additional charge depending on the extent). However, they also had no rental gear available, despite their website's claim! So he called the Monroeville location and set aside a pair of skiis for me that would work for my height and boots and level. Not sure where they came from since when I was at the Monroeville location they barely had any rental equipment at all. I went back to the other location to get the skiis that were there, but they weren't the correct ones to work with my boots that I purchased so I had to wait while they drilled some holes in the skiis so they could be adjusted for my boots, but at least they were able to do that while I waited (see other review for Monroeville). So overall I had a great experience with the boot fitting, but wish the rental options were more plentiful and flexible. I really want to buy skiis next year but I'd be much more comfortable in such an expensive investment if I had an option to try out a few different types of skiis first but there were no options available other than the standard ones they gave me, which are pretty much just like the rentals I've already been using and nothing special. It was also a little frustrating to have to go back in forth since each location is 20-30 min away from me in opposite directions. But I finally got all my gear for this season. read more
