I recently bought a Riese and Muller Homage GT Rohloff HS Dual Battery bike at Kindred Cycles. I mainly dealt with Aaron during the whole process of test riding, ordering, and picking up my bike. Aaron was very friendly, patient, & very knowledgeable during my buying experience. I also dealt with Katharine & Alicia, they were also very friendly, patient, & helpful. I ordered my bike in the beginning of October 2022 & it was delivered at the end of January 2023. Aaron helped me a lot during those 3 plus months with answering my questions, concerns, & special requests. I live 3 plus hours north of Pittsburgh & I was worried about picking up my bike at the end of January Because I live in the snow belt area at this time of year it isn't the ideal time to be traveling with a bicycle on a rack on the back of my suv. I was worried about doing damage to my new bike with snow, ice, salt, etc. Aaron said he would store my bike still in the box until I was ready to pick it up. I really appreciate that he would do that for me, seeing that it could be weeks or months until the weather got better to pick it up. When I was able to finally pick up my bike, Aaron & his staff quickly put my bike together. The day I picked up my bike Aaron spent hours with me going over the features of the bike, setting it up with my personal preferences, test riding it to my sure it was adjusted right for me & helping me with buying accessories for it. Not once did I feel pressured to buy extra stuff or if I was asking stupid questions or trying to push me out of the door after the purchase. Aaron reached out to me a couple of days later to see how I was doing and to let me know that if needed anything to let him know. Nice to know that I wasn't just a number to them and that I felt like I would be taking care of for years to come. I can't say enough good things about my experience at Kindred Cycles. I would highly recommend them for your next bicycle purchase or for repairs or services. Darryl Case read more

Great responsive bike shop. Patient, knowledgeable and kind. They have skills to work on all types of bikes

Bought a new bike today from Kindred, and it was a great experience. Especially high marks for Alicia and Katharine who made it all very enjoyable. read more

My dad and I did the GAP trail from Pittsburgh to DC on a tandem bike. We had never done a long-distance bike ride before, much less on a tandem bike. The folks at Kindred were so incredibly helpful, we couldn't have done it without them. They helped guide us through what gear to get, and provided us with all the tools we needed for the journey. They're also incredibly transparent about pricing. I always feel comfortable and at ease going to Kindred. read more

Great establishment. I bought 2 identical bikes - one I took to a bike shop closest to me for assembly and was disappointed. The staff at Kindreds on Penn Ave is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Even though my bikes are brand new they replaced the derailer and the bike shifts much nicer than my other bike. The charges are reasonable and I'm very happy with the service. I will take my other bike there for a going over. read more

Great bike choices and very helpful and patient staff that takes time to get you the right bike and fit

Went in and they helped me with a bunch of stuff, charged me nothing, were super friendly, and referred me to another shop for the best prices for a certain part they didn't have. Awesome place. read more

Can't say enough good about Kindred Cycles. Alicia is so knowledgeable and personable helping educate us about "e" bikes and then with accessories. Aaron was fantastic with the test rides and options we could choose. Both my wife and I purchased our new biked that day. I have had my regular bikes serviced at Kindred and always pleased with the professionalism and work they have done. Charges are reasonable, and you get a 15% discount on accessories when you buy a new bike. Highly recommend Kindred Cycles. read more

Really good repairs and pricing seemed fair. Everything explained before repairs made. Don't hesitate to go there! read more

I'm an infrequent Yelp reviewer but am leaving this to say it's the best bike shop I've experienced in all my travels. Katharine accommodated an emergency fix on a busy weekend, expertly diagnosed other issues, took care to make some tire recommendations, shared some advice and tips about Pittsburgh, and had my bike ready shortly. This came at the end of a 350-mile trek from DC on the Gap Trail in which my tire blew 8 miles outside of town. The help given to me allowed me to head back out on the trail and complete my journey the next day. While waiting briefly, I also saw the care people in the shop were taking with others on purchase and repair. If there were six stars on this thingy, I'd give 'em. Thank you to Katharine and her shop! read more

So I parked out front of this place, and I figured I would stop in and check it out. I needed two valve stem caps for my bike so I went on to buy some. I asked the gentleman at the front deck is he had valve stems caps and he walked me back to the repair section and he looked on the floor, picked up two of them and handed them to me!! I asked if I could pay him for it and he wouldn't take any money. I will but everything I need for my bikes including bikes from this store forever!!!!!! read more

I really love Kindred Cycles. I went here initially because it was close to my residence in the Strip District. I now live downtown and there's a closer bike shop on the South Side, but I pushed my bike to Kindred this spring when I had a broken valve stem. The employees are very knowledgeable and always willing to offer good advice on accessories I am looking at. They are willing to acknowledge a given accessory may be more expensive, but why they think it's worth it, or offer a lesser expensive option when that is the best one to fit my needs. I primarily go there for their service. Whether I need a tire replaced or a spring tune-up, their maintenance department is top notch. In the Age of Covid, you need to go around back to the alley where you will be greeted by a masked employee outside the ship. They spray down your bike with a disinfectant prior to taking it into the shop and again before returning it to you. Unfortunately, a lot of bike accessories are made overseas or in Canada and are back ordered. They didn't do their usual spring pre-order since they weren't sure they would be able to open. I need to go back and see if they got gloves in yet as I need a new pair. read more

I got my bike here last year and I am very happy with my purchase. Recently, I popped a tire and got it fixed here for under $20! The customer service here is stellar. I feel welcome every time I come in. The selection is top notch and the staff people are very knowledgeable. I feel blessed to live so close to Kindred. I will be a loyal customer for as long as I can! read more

I moved to Pittsburgh a few months ago..I see lots of folks riding bikes I see bikes for rent I see roads clearly marked for bikes I see bikes being put on the front of buses to help bikers get around this great city I see in my garage my old bike ...its over 14 years old ok I say its time to get myself a new bike for my new city I am ready to take on some trails there are lots of bike stores in the city and of course the big chain stores have bikes. I am a believer if your going to get a bike get a good quality fitted to you by folks that know what they are doing and can service the bike in the future you won't find that at the chains I visited a bike store in another part of the city where I was totally ignored yeah ok thanks. One day I asked my phone "where is the nearest bike store" and up came Kindred I head over where I am warmly greeted by Katherine (who is one of the owners) I tell her I decided I am going to ride again. I am shown a few different bikes including Kona, Fairdale and Norco after almost falling over trying to try one I realize climb overs might not be for me ... I leave come home I look at my old trek and say ok I am going back my 2nd visit warmly greeted by Katherine and Aaron who actually remember me. I am ok ready for a step through Aaron clearly knows his bikes and their styles and features we watch a video of Norcos and we discuss the Fairdales long story short I decided on a lovely step through clearly not even close to the most expensive bike in the store 5 stars for selling me the right bike. I also saw another customer fully try out a bike say he wasn't sure and left NO pressure I return with my trek to get it tuned up for my friend to ride during the apocalypse (thats a story for another day) now I have two bikes to get home my old trek is looking mighty spiffy with a new tire, new chain and now the brakes work. The price was very reasonable how about the repair being less then what I was quoted. Aaron was more then happy to discuss all the racks his shop offers he even put my new rack on the car off I went with a map of bike trails (provided by the shop) this is a great store for repairs, tune ups and buying new bikes read more

Best around!!!! Don't hesitate to visit them, they will always help you with a friendly smile and great attitude. Keep up the great work Kindred crew!!! read more

Kindred is one of those wonderful places that provides amazing customer service. They treat both novice bikers and experts in the same way--with knowledge, kindness, and patience. Alicia literally spent 30 minutes talking to me on the phone before I came in to try a new bike. We talked about different options and I came back a second day to try a bike at a lower price point. She didn't pressure me in any way; she really wanted to make sure I took the time I needed to find the right bike FOR ME. Because of COVID, the bikes are flying out the door and they don't have to spend hours with one customer. But they do because they actually care about what they do and the people who buy the bikes. This is my lifetime bike store for sure! read more

I had a wonderful buying experience here. I tried many bikes at many shops in the region. Each shop I rode 2-5 bikes. I'm not an impulse buyer for large purchases. This shop just felt different. Very inviting, smiling staff and just fun discussing what kind of riding I intended to be doing. So I thought I had found a great choice and I bought it and they installed a few accessories. Well I took an extended ride when I got home and just felt I had picked the wrong bike. Long story short, I called and I returned to the store. I took an extended ride on my other top option and it was a perfect match. A quick exchange of my accessories and I was going home with my new bike. They even described themselves as a no judgement shop as I felt a little guilty changing my mind. I'm so happy I took my time to find this great store! read more

Awesome shop! Knowledgable, friendly staff with a beautiful space! The selection of bikes is incredible for a new shop. They will be offering workshops in the future. read more

Kindred Cycles - Bikes Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Bought my wife a bike there on Sunday after shopping at several bike shops in Pittsburgh. All the shops we visited were generally very good, and I wouldn't have had qualms with purchasing from any of them. Our experience at Kindred, and with our saleswoman Sarah, was particularly excellent. She was very laid back and low pressure, very knowledgeable of the product & extras (helmet, lock, tools, gear, etc), and she went down in the basement to pull the bike my wife ended up buying "out of the archives" if you will. It was a model that I think might have either been discontinued or had been updated, but they still had this one in stock. As it happens, an excellent bike that was a perfect fit for what we were looking for - a street & trail ready hybrid. The prices here were a little higher than the other two shops we visited, but the bike they hooked us up with was the perfect fit for what we were looking for. All of the staff was extremely friendly, and all but one talked with us and introduced themselves to us during the process. Throw in the generally cool "old building" atmosphere (wooden floors, large windows, brick everywhere), and it made for a really great shopping experience. Plus, 15% off gear & six months free maintenance when you buy a bike there. Good stuff. read more

I was ready to start the GAP trail, when my chain became stuck shifting from the small ring to the big ring. I had just had my bike tuned up for the ride at my local shop. We found Kindred and saw that it was open and about 1.5 miles away. John at Kindred was awesome. He took my bike immediately and did what was necessary. He saved our trip. read more

I always think to myself that I don't visit this place enough but mostly just stopping in for repairs. Typically I find myself at Kindred Cycles over many of the other bike shops throughout the city for a number of reasons. Going beyond their wide selection of bikes/parts/accessories, the staff members are truly great people. For as many times as I've been to Kindred, I've always had a great experience. I'd recommended this place to anyone who is looking to purchase, repair, or even just check out the place and everything they have to offer. read more

I've been going to Kindred for a few years. Katharine and Aaron are great and I never felt like I was being 'sold' on something. They want you to have the right bike and are patient and very reassuring. They specialize in commuting bikes. I bought a Brompton there after looking at several models. At my previous company, we bought several bikes from Kindred for employees to use for errands or just going to lunch. Kindred set us up with several very nice bikes for a very reasonable price. I highly recommend Kindred. read more

This place is my kinda bike shop! From great service: bringing back from the dead my husband's neglected and heavily-used commuter bike, to special ordering Kona cross bikes for my cycling crazed nine year old twins, to serving my own personal needs for as much cool, quality bike stuff I can get my hands on: Kindred Cycles gets the job done. Also no "your bike is broken, buy a new one or these expensive parts." They look at what your needs are and help you choose the repairs that will fit your style of riding, help you get the most out of your bike before they will sell you a new one, and can order anything in a timely fashion. AND they have Brompton folding bikes, great quality and craftsmanship and a bike to fall in love with over and over again. read more

Big chains lack customer service, most boutique shops make you feel like you're intruding on their secret clubhouse. Kindred is a welcoming shop with enthusiastic staff and great mechanics. I drive way outta the way to go here. Would highly recommend to anyone. read more

The absolute nicest people around. Totally down-to-earth, approachable bike shop that has everything you need

Friendly staff that gets the job done without the pretense/awkward pressure of trying to educate you or make you fix the bike yourself. I have no God given skills with my hands, I'm not going to learn to be a bike mechanic and I don't want to mess up my bike, I just want to ride it. This is definitely my new go to. I had a busted up wheel, went in 45 minutes before close and was able to drive off with a new one nicely installed. read more

Katharine and Aaron are really friendly and honest folks. They listen to what you need and don't try to oversell you on things. They're upfront about their services and are patient when you have questions or concerns. Quick and quality work. I also love feeling like I'm stepping into a community space when I walk in. Everyone's so welcoming. Overall, I'm so happy to see that they've livened up this stretch of the Strip with their presence. read more

All the great things you hear about this shop are true. I wanted to get a new bike but I really wanted to get another season or two out of my current bike. Explained my issues and we decided all I really needed were two new wheels. Also made me feel better about my current bike, that it wasn't all that bad, just needed a few things to make it better than new. I'll be back for sure and I can't wait to get a new bike when the time comes. So, if you are looking for something new or if your worried your old bike is too far gone, just take it in and they will give you some great advice. Either way, it's worth the visit. read more

Just purchased a new bicycle for my son today at this WONDERFUL NEW BIKE STORE. Both Aaron and Kathleen were very friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable.. Aaron spent lots of time discussing different bikes with my son and allowing him to try them out. They were not real pushy and made sure they met his need. The 6-month tune-ups will be great as long as my son is still in Pittsburgh in 6 months. Can't wait to go back to this store when I need a new bike or repairs on my present bike. read more

I think these guys are great. I bought a used bike and took it to them for a check out and tuneup, they replaced a bent axle and the whole thing was under $100. I was really pleased with Kat and how much she cared about my business and doing the job right - for me, based on the bike that I had bought. Excellent place for anything bicycle related. They will be my home for biking! read more

A fantastic shop. The staff are super friendly, attentive and genuinely care. They do fantastic work at a fair price. What truly sets them apart is the customer service. All too often you entire a bike shop and find the staff intimidating or bad at communication/explaining the details. Not the case with these guys! They truly make the experience excellent! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

Fantastic service, great location, if you have to wait, you are just steps from the heart of the Strip!

I went into Kindred knowing that I wanted to start riding with my 15 month old son, but not knowing exactly how I wanted to ride with him (front seat, back seat, trailer?). Aaron was beyond helpful. He talked to me about how and where I wanted to ride. He even watched my kid while I took a bike for a spin around the block! I can't thank Aaron enough for helping us pick the perfect ride - a Breezer step thru outfitted with a Yepp Mini baby seat. If you need a new bike, a tune up, accessories, etc, GO TO KINDRED CYCLES! The selection is great and the people are awesome. read more

Best bike shop I've been to. The owners are welcoming and knowledgeable and acknowledged me as soon as I arrived even though they were busy. Catherine worked on my bike and then took the time to explain things to me so that I would understand the mechanics to use the bike better which I appreciated so much. Definitely recommend this shop highly. read more
