I recently bought a Riese and Muller Homage GT Rohloff HS Dual Battery bike at Kindred Cycles. I mainly dealt with Aaron during the whole process of test riding, ordering, and picking up my bike. Aaron was very friendly, patient, & very knowledgeable during my buying experience. I also dealt with Katharine & Alicia, they were also very friendly, patient, & helpful. I ordered my bike in the beginning of October 2022 & it was delivered at the end of January 2023. Aaron helped me a lot during those 3 plus months with answering my questions, concerns, & special requests. I live 3 plus hours north of Pittsburgh & I was worried about picking up my bike at the end of January Because I live in the snow belt area at this time of year it isn't the ideal time to be traveling with a bicycle on a rack on the back of my suv. I was worried about doing damage to my new bike with snow, ice, salt, etc. Aaron said he would store my bike still in the box until I was ready to pick it up. I really appreciate that he would do that for me, seeing that it could be weeks or months until the weather got better to pick it up. When I was able to finally pick up my bike, Aaron & his staff quickly put my bike together. The day I picked up my bike Aaron spent hours with me going over the features of the bike, setting it up with my personal preferences, test riding it to my sure it was adjusted right for me & helping me with buying accessories for it. Not once did I feel pressured to buy extra stuff or if I was asking stupid questions or trying to push me out of the door after the purchase. Aaron reached out to me a couple of days later to see how I was doing and to let me know that if needed anything to let him know. Nice to know that I wasn't just a number to them and that I felt like I would be taking care of for years to come. I can't say enough good things about my experience at Kindred Cycles. Great establishment. I bought 2 identical bikes - one I took to a bike shop closest to me for assembly and was disappointed. The staff at Kindreds on Penn Ave is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Even though my bikes are brand new they replaced the derailer and the bike shifts much nicer than my other bike. The charges are reasonable and I'm very happy with the service. I will take my other bike there for a going over. read more

I'm an infrequent Yelp reviewer but am leaving this to say it's the best bike shop I've experienced in all my travels. Katharine accommodated an emergency fix on a busy weekend, expertly diagnosed other issues, took care to make some tire recommendations, shared some advice and tips about Pittsburgh, and had my bike ready shortly. This came at the end of a 350-mile trek from DC on the Gap Trail in which my tire blew 8 miles outside of town. The help given to me allowed me to head back out on the trail and complete my journey the next day. While waiting briefly, I also saw the care people in the shop were taking with others on purchase and repair. If there were six stars on this thingy, I'd give 'em. So I parked out front of this place, and I figured I would stop in and check it out. I needed two valve stem caps for my bike so I went on to buy some. I asked the gentleman at the front deck is he had valve stems caps and he walked me back to the repair section and he looked on the floor, picked up two of them and handed them to me!! I asked if I could pay him for it and he wouldn't take any money. I will but everything I need for my bikes including bikes from this store forever!!!!!! read more

I really love Kindred Cycles. I went here initially because it was close to my residence in the Strip District. I now live downtown and there's a closer bike shop on the South Side, but I pushed my bike to Kindred this spring when I had a broken valve stem. The employees are very knowledgeable and always willing to offer good advice on accessories I am looking at. They are willing to acknowledge a given accessory may be more expensive, but why they think it's worth it, or offer a lesser expensive option when that is the best one to fit my needs. I primarily go there for their service. Whether I need a tire replaced or a spring tune-up, their maintenance department is top notch. In the Age of Covid, you need to go around back to the alley where you will be greeted by a masked employee outside the ship. They spray down your bike with a disinfectant prior to taking it into the shop and again before returning it to you. Unfortunately, a lot of bike accessories are made overseas or in Canada and are back ordered. They didn't do their usual spring pre-order since they weren't sure they would be able to open. I need to go back and see if they got gloves in yet as I need a new pair. read more

I got my bike here last year and I am very happy with my purchase. Recently, I popped a tire and got it fixed here for under $20! The customer service here is stellar. I feel welcome every time I come in. The selection is top notch and the staff people are very knowledgeable. I feel blessed to live so close to Kindred. I moved to Pittsburgh a few months ago..I see lots of folks riding bikes I see bikes for rent I see roads clearly marked for bikes I see bikes being put on the front of buses to help bikers get around this great city I see in my garage my old bike ...its over 14 years old ok I say its time to get myself a new bike for my new city I am ready to take on some trails there are lots of bike stores in the city and of course the big chain stores have bikes. I am a believer if your going to get a bike get a good quality fitted to you by folks that know what they are doing and can service the bike in the future you won't find that at the chains I visited a bike store in another part of the city where I was totally ignored yeah ok thanks. One day I asked my phone "where is the nearest bike store" and up came Kindred I head over where I am warmly greeted by Katherine (who is one of the owners) I tell her I decided I am going to ride again. I am shown a few different bikes including Kona, Fairdale and Norco after almost falling over trying to try one I realize climb overs might not be for me ... I leave come home I look at my old trek and say ok I am going back my 2nd visit warmly greeted by Katherine and Aaron who actually remember me. I am ok ready for a step through Aaron clearly knows his bikes and their styles and features we watch a video of Norcos and we discuss the Fairdales long story short I decided on a lovely step through clearly not even close to the most expensive bike in the store 5 stars for selling me the right bike. I also saw another customer fully try out a bike say he wasn't sure and left NO pressure I return with my trek to get it tuned up for my friend to ride during the apocalypse (thats a story for another day) now I have two bikes to get home my old trek is looking mighty spiffy with a new tire, new chain and now the brakes work. The price was very reasonable how about the repair being less then what I was quoted. Aaron was more then happy to discuss all the racks his shop offers he even put my new rack on the car off I went with a map of bike trails (provided by the shop) this is a great store for repairs, tune ups and buying new bikes read more

Kindred is one of those wonderful places that provides amazing customer service. They treat both novice bikers and experts in the same way--with knowledge, kindness, and patience. Alicia literally spent 30 minutes talking to me on the phone before I came in to try a new bike. We talked about different options and I came back a second day to try a bike at a lower price point. She didn't pressure me in any way; she really wanted to make sure I took the time I needed to find the right bike FOR ME. Because of COVID, the bikes are flying out the door and they don't have to spend hours with one customer. But they do because they actually care about what they do and the people who buy the bikes. I had a wonderful buying experience here. I tried many bikes at many shops in the region. Each shop I rode 2-5 bikes. I'm not an impulse buyer for large purchases. This shop just felt different. Very inviting, smiling staff and just fun discussing what kind of riding I intended to be doing. So I thought I had found a great choice and I bought it and they installed a few accessories. Well I took an extended ride when I got home and just felt I had picked the wrong bike. Long story short, I called and I returned to the store. I took an extended ride on my other top option and it was a perfect match. A quick exchange of my accessories and I was going home with my new bike. I was ready to start the GAP trail, when my chain became stuck shifting from the small ring to the big ring. I had just had my bike tuned up for the ride at my local shop. Bought my wife a bike there on Sunday after shopping at several bike shops in Pittsburgh. All the shops we visited were generally very good, and I wouldn't have had qualms with purchasing from any of them. Our experience at Kindred, and with our saleswoman Sarah, was particularly excellent. She was very laid back and low pressure, very knowledgeable of the product & extras (helmet, lock, tools, gear, etc), and she went down in the basement to pull the bike my wife ended up buying "out of the archives" if you will. It was a model that I think might have either been discontinued or had been updated, but they still had this one in stock. As it happens, an excellent bike that was a perfect fit for what we were looking for - a street & trail ready hybrid. The prices here were a little higher than the other two shops we visited, but the bike they hooked us up with was the perfect fit for what we were looking for. All of the staff was extremely friendly, and all but one talked with us and introduced themselves to us during the process. Throw in the generally cool "old building" atmosphere (wooden floors, large windows, brick everywhere), and it made for a really great shopping experience. They want you to have the right bike and are patient and very reassuring. They specialize in commuting bikes. I bought a Brompton there after looking at several models. All the great things you hear about this shop are true. I wanted to get a new bike but I really wanted to get another season or two out of my current bike. Explained my issues and we decided all I really needed were two new wheels. Also made me feel better about my current bike, that it wasn't all that bad, just needed a few things to make it better than new. I'll be back for sure and I can't wait to get a new bike when the time comes. Just purchased a new bicycle for my son today at this WONDERFUL NEW BIKE STORE. Both Aaron and Kathleen were very friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable.. Aaron spent lots of time discussing different bikes with my son and allowing him to try them out. They were not real pushy and made sure they met his need.
