Great locally owned bike shop in Squirrel Hill! I have heard nothing but good things from people who go here regularly. I had to bring my bike in for some maintenance in April 2020 during the coronavirus/covid shutdown. Biketek still offered fast and reliable service, setting me up with a new bottom bracket in just a couple days, despite being short-staffed due to the pandemic. I really appreciate how accommodating they have continued to be during this time. Outdoor activities are one of the only fun things we can do right now, so I'm very glad to have a working bike! Was nervous about bike shopping. Been to other shops where they instantly tell you there's no point in buying a low to mid range bike, and keep pressuring you to spend more. Outstanding bike shop. I bought a new hybrid to replace a 20+ year old, and they were super helpful but no pressure. They adjusted the new bike and handlebar stem to fit, but on my first ride, it still hurt my back too much (bad discs and sciatica). The next day I returned it and got a Jamis Citizen 3, which let me sit more upright. Frank and the rest of guys were great about everything. No problems with the return, got everything set up on the new bike. It rides like a dream. read more

I love this shop. Frank and the crew can teach so many businesses about friendly knowledgeable customer interaction and service. I drive by a bike shop everyday by Miracle Mile in Monroeville yet if I need anything related to biking I head to Biketec in Squirrel Hill. As an example i had been having issues with a bike wheel. Raced in right before closing and they fixed by problem right then. No talk about dropping it off and coming back tomorrow or that they were closing. After months of browsing the city (and this shop) for the perfect bicycle, I purchased one from here for my birthday. The price was much lower than what I was expecting to spend after looking at it online. The staff members always have a good energy about them and are very knowledgeable of the products they offer. There are no high-pressure sales to purchase things that we wouldn't need, which makes this place stand out from other bike shops in the Pittsburgh area. My husband and I have purchased both of our bicycles here and continue to go back whenever we need anything bike related (and sometimes just to say hi when we're in the neighborhood). I haven't ridden a bike in years, and was a little nervous about getting the hairy eyeball from hardcore bike geeks. But I went in and told him I was looking for a bike to get me to the store and work, and left an hour later with a gorgeous bike at $100 under the asking price online, along with all the accessories. He even loaned me a basket to use until the basket I wanted arrived, allowing me to get all my groceries home safely. Got early 1980's Specialized Allez, was in need of tune up and repair. Needed something where the pedal housing is located, don't know the name of it. But bike was in danger. They kept the bike for a few days, and gave me a loaner at a great price. Very honest about what I should do considering my budget and what I needed from the bike; commuting for a few months, then upgrading. Didn't try to up sell, and helpful. read more

The price for services is too high. I came requesting an adjustment on my gears and breaks and they charged me for one of their premium plans. Not only that, but the kid in front wanted to charge me an extra $10 for a breakpad change that I had no need for. after reporting that the problem in my gears had not gone away, they mentioned one of my gear rings was bent and that was why they couldn't do anything else. I have experienced much better service for less than $50 read more

Extremely disappointed with Biketek PGH. I came into the cycling world later in life and came here to purchase my bike and 2 bikes for my daughters going off to college. Not only were the bikes severely overpriced for the frames themselves but also the components were not worth anywhere near what they were selling them for. I have been going to Biketek for almost 6 years over which time I have bought quite a few bikes (from my daughter's cruiser to mtb to carbon race and triathlon bikes). I continue to return to Biketek despite living on the other side of town where it is more convenient to go to another shop. Their friendly, enthusiastic and professional staff offer outstanding service. I appreciate their honesty and integrity. They recommend what is right for you, and not necessarily what will bring them the most profit from a sale. Fantastic bike shop. Clean, well-stocked, and a friendly "no pressure" environment. Although I initially thought I needed a larger frame, Frank and Todd convinced me (rightfully so) that a smaller frame would fit me better. After buying my bike, I paid for a professional bike fit from Todd, which was well-worth it. Have your bike serviced here! This is by far my favorite bike shop. The bike mechanics (Corey and Allan) are extremely impressive: they have solved many challenging problems with my various bikes (road bike, tri bike, family trail bikes, etc.) over the years, and I trust them completely. They have given me great advice on how to improve my riding experience in a cost-effective way. Frank (the owner, who is usually out front) is also extremely helpful. Although it is not a huge store, everything that they stock is high quality, and Frank has been really great about ordering things for me that they don't have in stock (at very reasonable prices). Finally, the best bike fitter in Pittsburgh (Todd S.) operates out of this shop: if you haven't had a bike fit session before, I highly recommend getting one. Although I used to go to other bike shops in the area, for the past several years I have switched exclusively to Biketek because they always give me such great service. read more

I wandered in to purchase a mirror for my bike as I'm new to Pittsburgh biking and the lack of bike lanes and narrow streets means being able to see behind is really helpful. The owner was extremely helpful in suggesting mirror options, especially since I was thinking of getting a helmet/glasses mirror, which he recommended against. He offered to install, but I had walked over and also thought I could install no problem. I get back and my handlebars required cutting the rubber to install, which was more complicated than just popping off the end cap, so I hopped on my bike and rode over. I hadn't checked the hours (and also didn't know what time it was until I looked at my phone), so I was surprised when the door was locked. They close at 5 on Saturday and I got there at 5:07. Crap. I checked opening time for Sunday and was about to head off when the owner came around. He had left his phone inside and very graciously helped install the side mirror, which ended up requiring new grips because mine were solid in the core after he cut off the end. The owner was super friendly, and went out of his way by staying open to help me out with something that could have waited. I have been to bike shops in other cities and I have to say this owner was the nicest I have met- I highly recommend and will definitely be back! read more

I took my bike in here to get a tune up and not only were they not the most friendly staff, but they charged me $80 and said nothing about why or what they did. My screws on the pedals were coming undone and they didn't even bother with those. I took my bike to Kraynicks. Now that's an excellent place and much cheaper. They'll show you how to fix your bike for free! I do love the bike I bought from here over 5 years ago, but recently not impressed with the amount they charge or their service. read more

SO glad we found this little shop after looking in the massive Pro Bikes shop right down the street. I was looking to purchase a road bike, and was pretty irritated with Pro Bikes after 1. No one even asked if I needed assistance and 2. Of the hundreds of bikes in stock, they had 2 that would fit my small frame... 1 being ultra cheap, and 1 being ridic expensive ($4k+). BIKETEK, with their small inventory, had THE PERFECT bike for me, and was on a fanastic sale. They hooked me up, and the staff that helped were so friendly and informative. I've shopped at both Biketek and Pittsburgh Pro further down the street. When I bought my bike, I went with one I saw at Pittsburgh Pro. I love the bike, but I'm not a big fan of the "hard sell" approach I've gotten at Pgh Pro. I've since chosen to go to Bike Tek for supplies and maintenance (and for my partner's bike). Their prices are generally better, there's usually a quick turnaround with repairs, and the staff is great. I just bought a trainer, and didn't really know what I wanted coming in. The guy on staff didn't try to sell me the most expensive thing they had-- he explained how each kind worked and the features each had. He recommended a cheaper one, and if it didn't suit my purposes I could just bring it back and get something else. (So far, it's done what I need.) read more

Bike stores can be some of the worst to shop, but Bike Tek is a happy exception. Years ago, I came in with my 20 year-old hybrid in need of repair. I wasn't sure whether I wanted to fix my old one or buy a new one, and I expected a hard sell, but got nothing of the sort. Frank and Angelo let me test ride as many bikes as I wanted even though I told them up front I wasn't planning to buy just yet. When I decided to get the old one fixed they cheerfully did a great job. When my hybrid was stolen from my unlocked (oops) garage, I went back to Bike Tek and bought a touring bike I'm in love with. They listened to me talk about what I wanted and found the right bike for me at a very good price. They made sure it fit me and reminded me that I was entitled to 6 mos. free maintenance on the bike. I have taken advantage of it, popping in nearly once a week. I worried about them getting annoyed, but to the contrary, they've been great. Cory is a mechanic who's helped me a lot and his knowledge of bikes is impressive, but he never makes me feel stupid, even after he has to undo bad adjustments I've made on the thing. Chris and Chris have also been helpful; Frank continues to make sure I have anything I need, and Angelo (who I call "The Bike Whisperer") has handled some tough problems, including a bent fork when I backed my new bike into a U-Haul while using a hitch-mounted rack for the first time. He made it good as new, to my great relief. I would recommend Bike Tek to anyone, expert, novice or in between. They have excellent bikes, a knowledgeable and friendly staff, a great owner and are committed to their customers before and after they buy their bikes. read more
