Best on-site hotel restaurant that I have ever dined in for breakfast. Matching the interior of Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian, the setting is classy with a relaxing ambience.
A plate of freshly baked pastries and artisan bread awaits on the table. Upon seating, the servers ask if you'd like a glass of the fruit smoothie of the day as well as any specialty tea and coffee. I had a Flat White and Mocha during my visits along with the fruit juices, typically a blend of banana and berries. Next you choose a dish from the Continental Plate and one from the Cooked Item.
If new to Scotland, I propose the Full Scottish Breakfast. It is extremely filling and lets you sample the local specialties such as haggis and black pudding. Because it is such a heavy plate, the Fresh Fruit Platter would be a good pairing to balance the greasiness. Our three-night stay let us try almost everything on the menu, all of which were delectable.
Continental Plate:
- Trio of Scottish Salmon: hot smoked salmon, cold smoked salmon and gravlax, capers, dill crème fraiche, lemon
- Home Made Granola: Greek yogurt
- Scottish Cheeses and Charcuterie Plate: selection of cooked and cured meats with Scottish cheeses
- Fresh Fruit Platter: served with mango chia porridge
Cooked Item:
- Full Scottish Breakfast: Ayrshire back bacon, pork sausage, MacSween's haggis, Stornoway black pudding, mushroom, baked beans, tomato, potato scone and your choice of free range eggs
- Eggs Benedict: with Scottish back bacon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce
- Crushed Avocado on Toast: crushed avocado and lime, toast with or without poached eggs
- Brioche French Toast: Ayrshire streaky bacon and Canadian maple syrup
