One of my wife's favorite blouses needed a minor mending. She was going to drive it out to a boutique out that her mother uses but I believe in supporting our local area businesses, so I convinced her to let me take it to a drycleaner I pass by on the way to and from work as I've used them before for dry cleaning and clothing repairs. If you are familiar with the phrase that starts with "no good deed..." you already know where this is going.
I went there on a Saturday and it just so happened that the Owner was at the counter. I showed her what needed to be done and she wrote up a ticket, saying it would be ready after 5PM on Monday. I asked if there was any way she can get it done the same day, and even offered to pay a rush fee, but she said that couldn't be done. I figured that was fair enough.
I went there Monday and there were two of her employees at the counter now. I gave one of them the ticket and she went off to retrieve the blouse. After asking me questions like "when did you bring it" and "what color is it" she admitted that she couldn't find the blouse and didn't know where it was. I asked them to contact the Owner and one of the employees said that it "probably didn't come back from the place she sent it." I was perplexed as all clothing repairs was done at this store but she told me that the Owner now sends that kind of work to another location. She then asked me to come back the same time tomorrow.
I went there Tuesday and the Owner was there. Gave her my ticket and as they started looking for the blouse again, asking the same questions as before, and again they couldn't find it. The Owner than said that it was still at her cousin's house, which is where she sends clothes to be fixed. She made a phone call (presumably to her cousin) and assured me that the blouse will be back after 5PM tomorrow.
Now it's Day Three of trying to get my wife's blouse back. Went there again with my ticket which I gave to one of the two employees and wow the blouse was actually there! They brought it to me on a hanger wrapped in plastic and proceeded to charge me for the service. However, as I examined the blouse, it was clear that it was not mended at all. The whole reason for taking it there in the first place was not done. I asked to speak to the Owner and she was not there. The best both employees were able to offer was a "gee...sorry about that." read more
