I had to put my cat of 18+ years down. Happened very quickly. I came to Yelp for guidance and found Dr. Ivey. I left her a message at around 5:00am on a Sunday. She called me back by 7:30am, and was at my house by 9:30am. The last thing in the world I wanted was for my kitty to suffer. Her quickness in getting to us was much appreciated. Dr. Ivey is everything people have said about her and more. She even called me a couple weeks after her visit to check on me. Thank you Dr. Ivey for the service you provided us. I truly appreciate it. read more

Evelyn Ivey is a beautiful soul who calmly and compassionately helps people through a horribly difficult life event. Her presence is beyond soothing and I could not have put my little old dog down last weekend without her. She even went one step further and followed up with a kind note. As all of these other reviews have mentioned, if you find yourself in a similar painful and sad position, please know that Evelyn is the perfect person to bring into your home (and all of us pet lovers are so sorry for what you're going through). read more

The short version of this: I don't really have anything fundamentally different to add to all the wonderful reviews. I am grateful to Dr. Ivey for how she served our family and our beloved cat. Our family has lost two cats within the last year. Both deaths were of the not-unexpected variety -- elderly animals in decline at the end of a good and long life -- but of course that doesn't make it any less difficult. For the first cat who passed (several months earlier), I took her to our regular clinic, and the vet who saw her handled it perfectly fine, but I found the whole experience more traumatic and alienating than necessary. I didn't want to do that ever again. Having Dr. Ivey come to our home this time around was infinitely better. I and the other members of my family were able to spend the final hour of our cat's life with her the best possible way. She (the cat) died while curled up on my lap. In the first part of Dr. Ivey's procedure, she sedated her and we were able to spend a few minutes with her in what felt like just a relaxed deep sleep before she passed. Dr. Ivey exuded calm and sensitivity throughout the visit, and she was especially intuitive and knowledgable about handling the situation with two young children present. read more

I would highly recommend Dr. Ivey. Our 15 1/2 year old toy poodle Gigi took a turn for the worse. I had arranged with another veterinarian to come to our home but she was out of town when we needed her to come. She referred Dr. Ivey and she was available within hours which was a huge relief as my poor baby was in a lot of pain. It was really wonderful to have the procedure done from the comfort of our own home. It was calm and peaceful. Dr. Ivey is very compassionate and sensitive. She made this difficult time way more tolerable. read more

Thank you so much, Dr. Ivey, for allowing us the best possible send-off of our 17 year-old litter-mates. Your empathetic demeanor, kind support all through and even after their death is powerful and deeply appreciated. Dr. Ivey, I just wanted to follow up from your visit and say thank you for being so gentle and understanding and kind throughout a very difficult event. My husband and I agreed that afterwards, we felt a sense of peace, and we both know Lucy Lou is in a better place and pain-free. I appreciate you coming out on such short notice and making what could be a very terrible day a little less hard. read more

My husband and I will forever be grateful to Dr. Ivey. She is incredibly kind, caring and gentle. She handled our grief and our kitty's suffering with such tenderness - and professionalism and skill. She is THE person you want help from in a time of heartbreak. There are so many caring touches she brings to her service. A peaceful ending is key but she also does many other things like providing time alone with your pet afterwards if wanted, taking them away curled up peacefully in a sweet basket, following up immediately with a very kind, handwritten sympathy card and even a follow up call sometime later. I felt that she was part of this difficult journey and was compassionate, understanding and supportive through it all. She is amazing - an angel of compassion. read more

Dr. Ivey made one of our most difficult times bearable. Her entire process and presence is calm and nurturing. She takes her time and gives plenty of love. I could not recommend her enough. She explains the process as she goes and gives you as much time as you need to say goodbye. She genuinely cares for her clients and their pets. She also followed up with such a wonderful card afterwards. She is awesome. read more

Had I not just experience this myself two weeks ago, I would not have believed that a pet's passing could be this peaceful. Our beloved 15-year old blue point Siamese, Tribble, was in her final days of renal failure and let us know it was time and we needed to move quickly the same day. Dr. Evelyn Ivey answered our call not knowing us at all, gave us a few hours together as a family and then showed up with her bag, and the kindest approach I've ever seen from any vet, or perhaps any medical provider, whether for animals or human. She was sensitive to Tribble's fear and stayed out of sight while administering the sedatives that calmed her incrementally so that we could see her relax and hold her and speak to her as she drifted away. There was not a moment of rushing and only complete thoughtful care for both Tribble's well-being and ours, even when Tribble proved to need additional sedation. When she arrived, and when she left carrying Tribble compassionately nestled in towels in the basket that she brought, she hugged us and told us what good parents we were and how lucky she had been to have us. She also sent us a lovely card. She partners with a service that scatters ashes in the Sierras if you don't wish to have them back yourself. I've watched my creatures die in vet's offices and in emergency hospitals, and I'll never go that direction again. Thank you for your amazing kindness and for helping Tribble's passing be the most peaceful experience I could have imagined. read more

Dr. Evelyn Ivey, Veterinarian, is absolutely a wonderful and amazing person!!!!!! Her deep compassion, gentleness, understanding, and kindness toward our family and our beloved boy was truly unforgettable. I will forever be grateful to her for treating our boy with such respect and dignity. She helped our family to understand that as difficult as it was, we made the right decision not to make him suffer. Our beloved son, brother, and best friend of 11 years was diagnosed with cancer, a painful cancer that he could not beat. We were told he had maybe 8 weeks tops , but the quality of his time would be very painful. The diagnosis of cancer was a shock to us as he was never sick or showed any signs of injury. He was a very happy Labrador, a gentle 120 pounds giant lap dog and was loved by all who came in contact with him. We were informed, via Sage, that we could have a Veterinarian come to our home to do the procedure, which we didn't know was an option. After doing some research, I chose Dr. Ivey and was so HAPPY I did. Her website was kind and explained the procedure in detail in a gentle manner. I couldn't talk on the phone with her as this was heartbreaking for me to discuss, so we communicated via email. When she came to our home, she greeted us with hugs, and with such compassion in her eyes. She took the time with our boy, who thought all visitors came just for him. Dr. Ivey allowed the process to go at our pace. She softly discussed each procedure. When our boy passed, she allowed us the time we needed as a family to say goodbye. Then when it was time to leave, she brought in a stretcher with a soft blanket to cover him. She secured him like a mother would a baby in a car seat to keep him safe and assured us that she would have help carrying him when she arrived at her destination. (It was a heart felt gesture when Dr. Ivey looked at me for my permission to cover his face.) Thank you Dr. Ivey for your kindness to our boy and us, his family. We were blessed to have had you here to help us begin his new journey. I wish some human doctors had your compassion. You allowed him to pass with respect and the dignity that we had hoped for. read more

We were having a really bad day, wrestling with the decision of whether or not it was time to let go of our dog, Willis. Willis was old and had been on a slow decline for a long while, but took a serious turn for the worse on Saturday. He had been to the emergency vet already that day, and we had made the decision to see if he would sleep off the possible effects of a new medication and improve throughout the day. But Willis didn't get better, he got worse. It was a Saturday night at about 8pm, and we didn't want Willis to have his last night on earth to be one of misery, or put him through any extreme medical intervention. Once we made the decision that we needed to let Willis go, we started calling trying to find someone who could come and help us put Willis to sleep at home, as Willis didn't do well at the vet. Dr. Ivey answered our call, and said that she could help us. Dr. Ivey was gentle, compassionate, and comforting, and I can't imagine a home euthanasia being easier than this. She made it possible for us to let him go at home in a spot where he felt at peace, rather than a hospital that would be scary and strange for him. We are incredibly grateful for the important work that she does. read more

I decided to let our 14 1/2 year old fur-nephew go. His human father and grandmother were with him. He chose to lay in his bed. I had 'interviewed' Dr. Ivey days before knowing that that the time was coming in the month ahead. I didn't realize it would only be days. She was incredible with Fritz. She had another appointment after but still came in...sat near Fritz and talked and petted to him. She told my family what was going to occur. Most of all, Fritz was comfortable and was not stressed. Fritz is no longer in pain and running around chasing his ball and sniffing all the new areas. There is an emptiness in my home. But my heart is full of happy memories and I'm deeply grateful for Dr. Ivey's kindness. read more

Dr. Ivey is remarkable - kind, quiet, respectful and warm - she helped us give our sweet Mo a peaceful and compassionate passing.

I am still reeling from my loss but needed an outlet to express gratitude for Dr. Ivey. After 18 amazing years it was time to let my "old wolf" get some much deserved rest. Dr. Ivey was as professional and caring as I could have hoped for and more. I couldn't have wanted for more. Myself and my family will be eternally grateful for her care and kindness. My 15 year old greyhound had degenerative myelopathy and canine cognitive disorder - these are relatively slow, deteriorating diseases (vs something as painful and fast as cancer). In other words, I had time to research online on how I wanted my Suki to go. I almost made the appointment twice in a month before I put it in stone. I can't imagine how many times Dr. Ivey has done this for people and how sad and potentially stressful it is. Her face even has these beautiful lines of compassion and concern. She is soft spoken and has a very gentle, calming presence. The process was extremely respectful, soft, warm, professional, and the absolute perfect way I would want my best friend to be gently let go - in her home, on her favorite bed and blankets, with people who love her, without any stress or anxiety. I breathed in her last exhale and watched her face relax. Dr. Ivey was perfect. The process was perfect. I'm devastated but I am so grateful for Dr. Ivey and her services. It's priceless and if you have to do it for your loved pet, it's really how you would want it be - unrushed, gentle, compassionate, without any glitches. read more

We are so thankful we found Dr. Ivey. Our amazing cat had begun to lost his battle against a rare fungal infection and we had no desire to put him to rest in a vets office. My husband contacted Dr. Ivey the day we decided we could not let Diego suffer another day. She came later that day and was so kind and loving. When she came in I was laying with him on the ground spooning him. She let me lay there the entire time and my husband and other kitty cat all laid with him. We were able to love him, whisper to him, comfort him, and be with him as he let go. It was the hardest thing I have ever been through but I am so thankful I was able to be with him peacefully throughout the process. Dr. Ivey is amazing, calming, and gave my Diego a peaceful exit from this world. Thank you. read more

I always knew that at-home hospice would be the only option for us when it came time for my 18 year old Cat (Polo) to leave us for a better place in the sky. A friend of mine came across Dr. Ivey's service on-line and she was exactly what we needed. I was so emotional over making any decision that would mean our little angel would no longer be with us. Dr. Ivey was warm and understanding of our situation and gave us just enough information so that it wasn't insensitive or came across like a business transaction. The day we knew was going to be Polo's last we sent a text to Dr. Ivey at 4:00 a.m.. asking her if she could come as soon as possible since Polo's condition was getting worse and we didn't want him to suffer for any more. She responded within 30 min. to say she could be there by 8:00 a.m. and drove all the way to the Peninsula in rain and traffic. The first thing she did when she arrived was to give us a hug - it was comforting to know that she empahized with us and what we were going through. She gave us the time we needed to say our good-byes and never made us feel like it was just a job for her. Dr. Ivey is so compassionate and has been that way all the way up to the point where she dropped off (hand delivered) Polo's ashes to us along w/ his paw print. The experience of losing our little angel was extremely heart breaking but having someone like Dr. Ivey be a part of it all helped us in so many ways and we will always be grateful. read more

Dr. Ivey is the most compassionate veterinarian we have ever met. From the first phone call, we felt that she would provide us with the care our whole family needed for the departure of our beloved Panda. She is very responsive, professional, warm, and caring. Bringing an outsider into our home to deal with such an intimate event was scary. But, Dr. Ivey felt like a family friend. She has a very genuine manner and is incredibly empathetic. It's difficult to balance empathy with professionalism, but Dr. Ivey has found that perfect balance. We have so much gratitude for Dr. Ivey. read more

Dr. Ivey is an artist. Yes, she euthanized our dog in a compassionate, calm, steady manner. But possibly even more, she created the space for us to grieve in our own way. She seemed to know when to speak and when to allow silence. I couldn't have asked for a more meaningful time or for a more gentle passing for my first dog. Thank you so much, Dr. Ivey. read more

There should be twice as many stars for the outstanding way in which Dr. Ivey works with her human and animal patients. Our dog had cancer and between diagnosis and hospice we had about one month. Clearly everyone in my household was still in shock when she made her first visit. We were not in a condition to make great decisions but with her tactful and gentle guidance we were able to tell when it was time, and spare our dog unnecessary suffering. Dr. Ivey took all the time necessary to answer our questions and knew what to say and what not to say. On the day we knew our dog was hurting, she showed up on short notice, helped us say goodbye, and showed absolute awareness and respect for the circumstances, making sure our dog was comfortable. Dr. Ivey then checked on us a few days later and was even there for us when his ashes arrived. They say a loss of a pet hurts more than a human loss for a lot of people. Looking back on it, I don't know what we would have done had it not been for Pets For Peace. read more

We can't say enough good about Dr. Ivey. Our beloved Border Collie, Nick was diagnosed with cancer back in November 2015 and has done well up until 7-27-16 when he presented a high temperature, lameness in limbs, and lethargy. We quickly rushed him to the vet where they did some scans to find that the chemo was no longer holding the cancer at bay. Our decision was already made that we would not let him suffer. He was a fighter to the very end but his body was telling us that it was time. We were referred to Dr Ivey from another vet that was not available that day and we are so lucky that we were. She gave us enough time to say our goodbyes and she was getting to our house just about the time Nick's pain meds were wearing off. She was so respectful, gentle, and caring. She made Nick's last moments so peaceful and kept us well informed throughout the process. She gave us hugs and left us with grief information. I feel for her having to witness this and be part of it day in and day out but I'm sure she can handle it more by realizing what a wonderful service that she is doing for the pets and families. She should get 100 stars and we will always remember her. read more

If you are reading this review because you are lost and looking for answers, please call Dr. Ivey. I called Dr. Ivey a couple months ago to get more information on our options at the time for our 10 year old lab that was quickly declining. She was so compassionate, even over the phone. My biggest concern at the time was that something would happen right after we left for work and our dog would suffer without us knowing until we got home. She made a suggestion to pick up some inexpensive wifi cameras. We hadn't even thought of that. It gave us so much comfort to know we could check in on him at anytime. We were lucky to have a couple more good months with our dog before we knew it was time. We made the decision on a Monday to put him down on Friday. It allowed us time to spoil him and remember how important he was to us. I have never had to make this decision before and I expected the process to be transactional and clinical. From the moment she walked through our door I knew it would be anything but that. She is naturally so compassionate and comforting. We feel so blessed that our baby was able to move on to his next journey at home where he was comfortable. You would have never known it was the first time she had met him. She cared for him and spoke to him like an old friend. Every step was completed with such dignity and respect. She knew what to say and when to say it. Her every move was gentle and considerate. There is no way I could put into words how thankful we were to have this option. I don't know how she does her job, I imagine it must be hard. I will be eternally grateful to Dr. Ivey. She is truly an angel. read more

We had a conflicting and difficult decision to make about when the right time was to send our beloved Skipper to the rainbow bridge. I scheduled and rescheduled and called Dr. Ivey every other day uncertain about what to do. She called back right away and was so kind and helpful by providing us with the information that we needed to make the timing decision. We scheduled two potential dates, and when we needed the earlier one after a rough night and morning Skipper had, she was completely accommodating. When Dr. Ivey arrived, she gently explained the process, and waited until we were ready. Her demeanor is empathetic and soft, comforting and reassuring, and she took the time we needed and checked in with us along the way before moving forward. She comforted Skipper and the three of us, and I watched our Skipper depart this world in the most compassionate and peaceful manner. Afterward she left us alone with Skipper and we were able to share the moment privately as a family. She gently wrapped him in his blanket before taking him. My only regret is not getting a paw print, but I don't think I was thinking clearly. We have wonderful memories of our short time with this wise soul, and she honored that. Dr. Ivey is truly an expert not only in the medical side of the process, but also the compassionate side to both humans and animals. Thank you Dr. Ivey - I cannot give you enough praise for making this sad process so peaceful for all of us. Update 6.27: Dr. Ivey sent us a kind card and left us a voicemail to see how were were doing. And, she read this review and I will get Skipper's paw print! Thank you Dr. Ivey! read more

Dr. Ivey really made an amazing difference in what was an incredibly difficult day and decision. Our dog Lola was severely declining and could not even get up in the morning to go bathroom, get food or water and definitely not to the vet. Dr. Ivey was the first person to get back to us early in the morning, and was so kind, and compassionate and really made a significant difference in my dogs passing, both for her and for us. What an amazing service she offers! Dr. Ivey is such a warm hearted and compassionate person. Her support at the end of our beloved dog's life was incredible. She was flexible and understanding, responding to us on a weekend, making adjustments in schedule when we realized we wanted to wait one more day for our daughter to arrive from out of town and helping us to trust ourselves and our dog in the timing of the process. She was SO gentle, so understanding and respectful of our whole family and our dog. She was very present yet completely non-intrusive. It was with great sadness that we realized a few weeks ago it was time to say goodbye to our beloved 21 year old cat. We called Peace for Pets to make arrangements, and on the day we'd settled upon, Evelyn Ivey came to our house, arriving exactly at the time we'd requested (in fact, I think she came a little early, heard me crying through the screen door, and waited on our porch to allow for a few final moments alone with our cat). Once she'd come in, Evelyn moved slowly and compassionately with all involved, treating us and our pet with understanding and care. Thanks to her, we were able to give our animal friend a peaceful death in the place she felt most secure. We are so grateful that our last moments with our feisty, affectionate, idiosyncratic, much-loved companion, as sad as they were, will be remembered as personal and loving. I can't recommend Evelyn and her good work highly enough. Her thoughtful, gentle presence made all the difference. read more

Dr. Ivey is amazing. She came to our home to help our elderly Akita, Blanca, cross the rainbow bridge. Dr. Ivey was very kind and professional, and she added lots of thoughtful extra touches to make the ordeal easier on us AND Blanca. She even delivered the cremains (with handmade clay pawprints!) to us personally, rather than putting them in the mail. She took lots of time with us, never made us feel rushed, and talked us through the whole thing. When the time came for the injection, I noticed she covered her hand with a towel, so we never had to see the needle go in. I thought that was very considerate! She was very organized, had everything she needed to complete her job with her, and treated everyone with respect and a sweet demeanor. All of our animals loved her, and she was full of kind and calm energy. It was evident that she does this as a real act of compassion, and not just for the money. I might add that she came on a weekend evening with short notice, and didn't even charge extra. Her services cost only a few dollars (like $40) more than if we had to go through the stress of going to the animal hospital. It was so much easier on us (especially my poor boyfriend, it was his dog). Easier for Blanca as well, since she got to pass peacefully in her own home with her human and dog family by her side, rather than spend her final hour enduring a scary trip to a strange, cold office. Added bonus: we didn't have to deal with ugly crying in public or driving home after. Dr. Ivey is fantastic at what she does, and I would definitely recommend her. She seems like a really intelligent and kind person, which was a blessing at such a terrible time in our lives. read more
